Ron DeSantis Joins Angel Families to Demand Mandatory E-Verify, Secure ‘Rising Wages’ for Florida Workers

4:28

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is continuing to push his populist agenda for Florida, joining Angel Families who have lost their loved ones to illegal aliens to demand mandatory E-Verify in the state to ban employers from hiring illegal aliens over Americans.

Bucking the Florida Republican Party’s donor class of billionaire executives and the Chamber of Commerce, DeSantis — alongside Angel Families — asked that the state legislature move forward on mandatory E-Verify legislation this year to hike the wages of American workers:
What I think you will see, obviously it creates a disincentive for people to come illegally if you have E-Verify, but I think what it does is it further tightens the labor market. It has rising wages at the bottom for our blue-collar workers here in Florida and I think that’s something that we should all want to see.
While supporting a wall along the United States-Mexico border, DeSantis said it is crucial to reduce illegal foreign competition against America’s working and middle class by cutting off the “number one reason” foreign nationals illegally come to the country:
The number one reason that you have illegal immigration is because of an employment magnet. And so when you have people that are coming, a lot of times there will be businesses throughout the country — including here in Florida — that will hire cheap foreign illegal labor that undercuts American wages and obviously creates an incentive for people to come illegally.
“Really all it does, it gives employers a way to verify that the people that they’re hiring are actually eligible for employment,” DeSantis said.
In one case, DeSantis explained, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) busted an illegal foreign labor operation in Jacksonville that was profiting from smuggling illegal aliens into the state to take U.S. construction jobs.
“We need to stand for workers here in Florida first, and that’s I think what E-Verify will do,” DeSantis said.
Mass immigration has direct impacts on the nation’s working and middle class, who are forced to compete for U.S. jobs with millions of newly arrived illegal and legal immigrants every year. Annually, the current immigration system brings at least 1.5 million mostly low-skilled foreign nationals — illegal and legal — to the country.
Though the big business lobby and corporate interests claim that the labor pool must be expanded to provide them with a never-ending flow of foreign workers, about 11.5 million Americans today remain unemployed, underemployed, or out of the labor force though all want full-time employment.
In a state like Florida, where immigrants make up about 25.4 percent of the labor force, American workers have their weekly wages reduced by about 12.5 percent. In California, where immigrants make up 34 percent of the labor force, American workers’ weekly wages are reduced by potentially 17 percent.
Every one-percent increase in the immigrant composition of low-skilled U.S. occupations reduces wages by about 0.8 percent, research has revealed. Should 15 percent of low-skilled jobs be held by foreign-born workers, it would reduce the wages of native-born American workers by perhaps 12 percent.
In states that have implemented mandatory E-Verify, the program has resulted in fewer jobless Americans, the most recent study by FAIR has found.
Since 2012, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia have all implemented one form or another of mandatory E-Verify. In some of these states, like Alabama, all public and private employers must screen potential employees to weed out illegal alien applicants. In other states, like North Carolina, all public employers and government contractors are required to use E-Verify.
All of these states, except for Tennessee, saw their unemployment rate decline a year after implementing mandatory E-Verify. Likewise, when Florida, Louisiana, and Indiana implemented forms of mandatory E-Verify, all three states saw a decline in unemployment at a greater rate than the national average at the time.
Mandatory E-Verify continues to be one of the most popular national immigration policies across party lines and the American electorate. In November 2018 exit polling by Zogby Analytics for FAIR, a total of 75 percent of American voters said they support mandatory E-Verify to prevent businesses from hiring illegal aliens over U.S. workers.

Pelosi Says Her ‘Political Survival’ Is Not ‘More Important Than the Survival of Our Children’

(CNSNews.com) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) said at her weekly press briefing last Thursday that neither her “political survival” nor Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s was “more important than the survival of our children.”
“Our message to Mitch McConnell [was]…why do you think your political survival is more important than the survival of our children?” said Pelosi. “Not yours, not mine, not any of our political survival is more important. And if you're afraid of the NRA, think of how afraid those children are at the prospect and then sometimes the reality of a gunman in their school.”
Pelosi made the statement to build pressure on McConnell to bring up the “Bipartisan Background Checks Act” for a vote in the Senate.
This bill passed the House on Feb. 22 on a 240 to 190 vote. It holds that: “It shall be unlawful for any person who is not a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer to transfer a firearm to any other person who is not so licensed, unless a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer has first taken possession of the firearm for the purpose of complying” with a background check requirement.
Here is an excerpt from Pelosi press conference where she addresses this issue:
“This week, we went over with the background check legislation, commonsense expansion of the background check legislation.
“I continue to wear this bullet on this bracelet; constant, constant inspiration, not that anybody needs a reminder of the fact that for over 260 days, background check legislation has been sitting on Mitch McConnell's desk.  About 100 people a day die from gun violence.  Could all of them have been saved?  No, but many of them could have.
“And of that 100, about 47 of them are children – 47 percent of those who die from gun violence each day, 47 percent are teenagers or younger children.
“Our message to Mitch McConnell, as we delivered again our poster, his reflection: as you look yourself in the mirror, why do you think your political survival is more important than the survival of our children?  Not yours, not mine, not any of our political survival is more important.  And if you're afraid of the NRA, think of how afraid those children are at the prospect and then sometimes the reality of a gunman in their school.”

Maryland Sanctuary Counties to Free Accused Illegal Alien Child Rapists, Murderers, Child Abusers

Maryland sanctuary counties are expected to release into the United States six illegal aliens accused of child rape, assault, murder, and child abuse, federal immigration officials say.

The sanctuary counties of Prince George County, Maryland, and Montgomery County, Maryland, may soon release six illegal aliens who are accused of a number of violent crimes against children and American citizens, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.
Jaycob Kidlat, an illegal alien, has been charged with five counts of sexual abuse of a minor, rape of a child under the age of 14-years-old, and third-degree sexual offense. ICE placed a detainer on him in June and it is unclear when he will be released, and if he will be freed rather than turned over to federal agents.
Likewise, illegal alien Alpha Ibrahimbah Mansaray has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and reckless driving, as well as a series of drug crime charges. Mansaray was arrested in September and ICE has a detainer on him.
Illegal alien Luis Miguel Cabrera was arrested in September 2018 in one of the two sanctuary counties on charges of child abuse resulting in the death of the child, child sex abuse, and rape of a child under the age of 14. ICE has placed a detainer on him.
Illegal aliens Jaun Rivas-Montano and Manuel Carballos-Morales were both arrested this year on charges such as child sex abuse, child abuse, child molestation, and second-degree child abuse. Both have ICE detainers, but their release dates by the sanctuary counties are unknown.
Illegal alien Mouhamadou Yatassaye was arrested by Montgomery County officials in April and charged with first-degree assault. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted, though ICE is unaware of when and if he will be released before trial.
“The county leadership has chosen misguided politics over public safety,” Baltimore, Maryland, ICE official Francisco Madrigal said in a statement. “The individuals we have lodged detainers against have been arrested in the community and will likely be released directly back into that community under these dangerous policies.”
“We aren’t asking Montgomery County or Prince George’s County to conduct immigration enforcement, we’re asking them to honor a lawful request to transfer these individuals into our custody where they can avail themselves of due process in the immigration court system,” Madrigal said.
In May, Prince George County officials defended their release of two illegal alien MS-13 gang members who were not turned over to ICE, and thus freed into the general public. After their release, they allegedly murdered a 14-year-old girl by beating her to death with baseball bats, and stabbing her with a machete.

Mexico Will Reject U.S. Designations of Cartels as Terrorists, Says AMLO

Mexico’s president announced Monday that he will reject any designation of cartels as terrorist organizations by the U.S. government.

During his morning press conference, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) said he would not accept the U.S.’s potential designation of cartels as foreign terrorist organizations–which could enable direct actions in Mexico.
“We will never accept that, we are not ‘vendepatrias’ (nation sellers),” Lopez Obrador said.
The president’s statements come after the relatives of nine U.S. women and children who died in a cartel ambush in Sonora revealed they would be meeting with President Donald Trump. The family is expected to ask for some cartels to be labeled as terrorist organizations.
Last week, Tamaulipas Governor Francisco Cabeza de Vaca used the term “narco-terrorism” to refer to the brazen attacks on citizens of Nuevo Laredo by a faction of Los Zetas Cartel called Cartel Del Noreste. Cabeza de Vaca publicly called out Mexico City for past inaction in confronting Los Zetas.
Earlier this year, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) filed legislation for the most violent cartels in Mexico to be labeled as a foreign terrorist organizations, a move that would limit cartel members’ abilities to travel and provide tools to better clamp down on financial transactions, Breitbart Texas reported.
On Monday morning, Lopez Obrador’s foreign relations minister Marcelo Ebrard called designations unnecessary and inconvenient, adding that the U.S. and Mexico have a healthy working relationship in fighting cartels. According to Ebrard, terrorist designations would give the U.S. the legal avenue to take direct action on cartels on Mexican soil.
