Buttigieg: ‘I Admire’ Idea of Voter Protections Being ‘a Kind of Democratic or Moral Infrastructure’

1:33

On Tuesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The ReidOut,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said that the idea of voter protections “being a kind of democratic or moral infrastructure” is something he admires.

Host Joy Reid asked, “Sen. Klobuchar and Sen. Warren…they’ve talked about the fact that election infrastructure could be viewed as infrastructure. Should we expect there to be the White House weighing in and saying, maybe we can get some of these election protection provisions into this next bill, seeing as…the filibuster’s not going anywhere for now, should we expect to see some election infrastructure placed in the human infrastructure bill so that at least that your folks can vote?”

Buttigieg responded, “I don’t know the finer points of what the Senate negotiators will be prepared to put in or what’ll get past the parliamentarian. But I know this, whatever the vehicle is, the president has called on Congress, called on America to pass real voter protections, whether we’re talking about the John Lewis Act, the For the People Act, all of the things that need to happen in order to make sure that we protect that foundation. I admire this idea of it being a kind of democratic or moral infrastructure, but whatever you want to call it, it’s a sacred right. It’s a vital right. It’s part of what makes America America and we have to pursue that as well.”

Impeach Joe Biden

The outcry has begun to impeach Joe Biden.  He should be.  Dan Bongino is noteworthy in making the call.  And not for “light and transient causes,” to borrow from the Declaration of Independence.  Not to stage show trials, like Pelosi, Schumer, and other Democrats did to Donald Trump.

If the United States had a recall referendum provision – as otherwise dysfunctional California does -- canvassers would secure signatures to hold a Biden recall vote in record time, no doubt.

In just about seven months in office, Biden is surpassing what it took James Buchanan and Jimmy Carter – two of the most wretched presidents in U.S. history – to achieve in four years.  Fecklessness (Buchanan) and bumbling cluelessness (Carter) aren’t grounds for impeachment.

Alas, neither is ongoing deterioration due to dementia.  That’s the 25th Amendment’s turf.  Biden’s policies are grounds, though; they’re rife with calculated malice and, in one instance, as Biden inadvertently confessed, unconstitutional.  His actions violate his oath of office.

From Bongino, per Yahoo! News, August 6:

Bongino argued Biden has invited an "invasion" at the U.S.-Mexico border, as the number of migrants attempting to cross the barrier illegally breaks records, and health concerns are raised as some illegal immigrants have tested positive for COVID-19 as they are dumped into communities by federal officials to await immigration proceedings.

Two million illegals are anticipated to cross into the U.S. this year alone.  That’s like moving an entire state’s population (New Mexico – 2,059,179) into the country in 12 months.

The illegals onslaught this year is just a preview.  What will the White House backed invasion look like in out-years ’22, ’23, and ’24?

A couple of million new illegals in 2021 alone will impose enormous burdens and costs on states and localities -- on healthcare, schools, and law enforcement.  Welfare and housing will take big hits, too.

If you’re unconvinced, go ask the good people of McAllen, Texas, which is a beachhead in the Biden-prompted invasion.

Biden is dissolving our southern border.  Isn’t that grounds for impeachment?  Isn’t it a president’s duty to “protect and defend” the nation by preventing hordes of illegals from entering the country?  But dereliction is Biden’s lesser offense.  His southern border policy flouts his duty as chief executive.

Biden’s defiance isn’t the result of misplaced compassion or incompetence.

Very naïve Americans persist in characterizing the border crisis as due to the Biden administration’s bungling mismanagement.

That’s simply not true.  As Tucker Carlson repeatedly points out, the southern border breakdown is premeditated.  The White House and congressional Democrats know what they’re doing and why.

The Heritage Foundation’s Tim Murtaugh wrote on July 30:

The fact is that Biden campaigned for president promising an array of enticements for people to break our laws to enter this country. He promised amnesty for those already here, taxpayer --provided health care, work permits, support for sanctuary cities, and a cessation of deportations.

Since becoming president, he also paused construction of the border wall and reversed the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which delayed entry for those seeking asylum.

The de facto dissolution of the nation’s southern border is being undertaken to achieve a longstanding Democrat aim: to flood the nation with illegals, thereby creating an ever-expanding government-dependent class whose votes can be “harvested.”  Holding underclass blacks in generational poverty and welfare bondage is insufficient, politically.

As the fraudulently named “For the People Act” attests, Democrats seek to permanently undermine honest elections.  Adding successive waves of illegals to the U.S. radically changes the nation’s dynamics, culturally and politically.

While Democrats see crass political advantages in overturning the culture and corrupting elections, their hard-left allies are delighted to see the country “deconstructed,” i.e., ruined by illegal throngs.  Destruction of the existing order is foundational to Marxist doctrine; the Communist Manifesto is explicit on this account.

Meanwhile, bloodless big business titans have long pimped for open-ended migration to satisfy their cheap labor appetites.  It’s a key reason why big business has fallen in with Democrats.

Biden’s undeclared, though very deliberate, open border policy is a win-win for his party’s chief factions.

While most talk centers on COVID-infected illegals crossing into the U.S., that’s just Step One in the White House’s scheme.

At the White House’s direction, illegals are being disperse across the nation, including the COVID sick.  Biden’s White House is knowingly and willfully spreading disease.

Concurrently, in an act of unbridled hypocrisy, Biden and his allies -- in and out of government -- are beating the drums for a reimposition of mask mandates, compulsory COVID vaccinations, and lockdowns.  “Stop the spread” is now grim parody.

Among the illegals are an assortment of hardened criminals -- many are gang members involved in the illicit drug trade.

Fentanyl is big business for cartels -- and Xi’s China, too.  Fentanyl is a less conspicuous drug to smuggle; it’s easier to conceal and transport than marijuana, heroin, or cocaine.  A little of it packs a big, lethal punch.  Hence, smuggling fentanyl is less risky while promising outsized profits to cartel cutthroats and China’s producers.

Are we to believe that Biden and his bright, sophisticated White House cadres are unaware of the “bad hombres” among the hordes trekking across the Mexican-American border?  Are we gullible enough to believe that they’re insensible to the untold damage that will be inflicted throughout the country by opening the gates to drug thugs?

Biden, his cabinet, and White House staffers damn well know what’s happening.  They’ve made a cold calculation that their party benefits, and that outweighs the injuries done to citizens.  Biden granting entry to criminals alone is impeachable.

Another article of impeachment suggested by Bongino: Biden’s eviction moratorium (or, alternatively, the “Let’s Keep Screwing Landlords Initiative”).

This may seem like small change compared to erasing the southern border, but the eviction moratorium amounts to an insidious attack on property rights.

Again, from Yahoo! News:

He [Bongino] also invoked the Biden administration's eviction moratorium, which came this week despite the Supreme Court signaling in June that an earlier moratorium expiring at the end of last month could only be extended by Congress. The Justice Department argued in federal court the new, more limited moratorium is meant to protect U.S. citizens from going homeless as the delta variant of COVID-19 rages across the country.

The hard left, which drives much of the Democrats’ agenda, is mobilizing in support of Biden’s decision to extend the moratorium.

From Rair Foundation USA, August 7:

The Party for Socialism & Liberation is using their front groups “Cancel the Rents” and the ANSWER Coalition to advertise the protest [conducted this past Saturday], which is being held along with the “Housing Justice League,” a socialist organization that sprang up from the Occupy Wall Street movement and works closely with the Atlanta chapter of America’s largest Marxist organization, the Democratic Socialists of America.

At a news conference last week, Biden practically admitted to the unconstitutionality of extending the moratorium, but is doing so boldly anyway.

Impeach Biden?  You bet.  Of course, a Democrat-controlled House and Senate won’t act to impeach and remove Biden from office.  Impeachment will be up to Republicans should they take the U.S. House in November 2022.  That is, should elections chicanery not deny them a majority.  With a majority, presumptive speaker Kevin McCarthy will have to keep the GOP’s surrender faction in line to achieve impeachment.

For Capitol Hill conservatives, the imperative is to build the case for Biden’s impeachment and educate voters as a run-up to next year’s midterms.  The starting gun has been fired.

Is America Becoming a Failed State?

Suddenly, Sunday, a riveting report came over cable news:

The U.S. embassy was urging all Americans to "leave Afghanistan as soon as possible." Message: Get out while you can.

Adding urgency was news that three northern provincial capitals, including Kunduz city, had fallen to the Taliban, making it five provincial capitals overrun since Friday.

The huge investment in blood and treasure by the United States over two decades to remake Afghanistan appears about to be wiped out, whole and entire, and we appear about to sustain our worst diplomatic and political defeat since the fall of Saigon.

Not once in this century has the U.S. decisively won one of the wars it launched — in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen or Libya. And the sole superpower status we enjoyed as the 21st century began is gone with the wind.

Yet America's hawks are urging us to give a new war guarantee to Taiwan, should Beijing exercise its claim, though former President Richard Nixon and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger assented in 1972 that Taiwan is "a part of China."

Before we issue any war guarantee to Taipei, we might consider the Pentagon's evaluation of the results of a recent war game in which the U.S. confronted China over Taiwan.

How did it go? Says vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. John Hyten, "Without overstating the issue, it failed miserably.

"An aggressive red team that had been studying the United States for the last 20 years just ran rings around us. ... They knew exactly what we were going to do before we did it, and they took advantage of it."

Are we Americans prepared, in any way, for an air-sea-and-missile war in Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific over islands they claim as their historic national territory but we have never claimed as ours?

Here at home, the COVID-19 pandemic, now in a fourth wave, is infecting 100,000 Americans every day, with hospitalizations rising commensurately. For that third of a nation still unvaccinated, the delta variant is a potential death sentence.

Despite this medical crisis that is common to us all, our political divide is manifesting itself in savage battles over vaccinations, masks and mandates.

And while COVID-19 continues to infect, hospitalize and kill, scores of thousands of Americans are being annually lost to drug overdoses and opioids. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 93,000 overdose deaths occurred across the country in 2020, and 3 in 4 fatal overdoses can be attributed to opioids.

More Americans are dying yearly from overdoses and opioids than all the Americans dead during the war in Vietnam.

The U.S. trade deficit numbers just came in for June, where the deficit in goods alone increased to $91 billion for the month. This translates into $1 trillion a year.

The largest component of that trade deficit is with China — an extraordinary level of U.S. dependency on a foreign nation for the vital necessities of its national life, let alone on an adversary like China.

On our southern border, an invasion of our country is taking place.

Every month President Joe Biden has been in office, illegal border crossings have increased. In June, Border Patrol recorded 178,000 border arrests — a 571% jump from June 2020. Border arrests have already reached their highest since 2000 and are on track to reach 1.8 million this year.

Biden is failing in his first constitutional duty — to defend the United States from foreign invasion. We Americans no longer decide who comes into our national home and whom we shall adopt as new citizens. Others decide, others determine our future, for us.

We defend the borders of scores of nations; we cannot, or Biden will not, defend our own. And, as former President Ronald Reagan reminded us, a country that can't or won't defend its borders isn't really a country anymore.

In our great cities, public shootings and killings have begun to exceed those of previous years. Police, under attack and abuse from the elites and people they protect, are resigning and retiring in record numbers.

Consider.

America is unable to win the wars she chooses to fight. She cannot or will not control and defend her borders from a mass migrant invasion. She cannot halt an outbreak of criminality and killing in her great cities. She has not run a trade surplus in four decades. Her dependency upon foreign producers is unprecedented. And her budget deficits continue to break records every year — as does her soaring national debt.

Is that not the description of a failed or failing state?

Asked by a despondent young friend if the defeat at Saratoga and potential loss of the American colonies meant the ruin of Britain, Adam Smith assured him, "There is a great deal of ruin in a nation."

Britain would go on from the loss of her 13 colonies to create the greatest empire since Rome.

Yet if there is "a great deal of ruin in a nation," we Americans certainly appear to be testing those limits.

Bidenflation: Real Hourly Pay Suffers One of the Worst Collapses Ever

It is getting harder and harder for American workers to make ends meet as rising inflation outpaces pay gans, pushing down inflation-adjusted compensation at a pace almost never seen before.

Adjusted for inflation, hourly compensation fell 2.7 percent in the second quarter, data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on the nonfarm business sector showed Tuesday.

Real compensation fell 2.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2011. That decline came in part because unadjusted wage gains were very small, just 0.5 percent. The economy was just extremely sluggish, with a low level of demand for labor following the financial crisis and the collapse of the housing bubble. The consumer price index increased 3.3 percent in the quarter.

The only other comparable contraction was in the first quarter of 1974, when real compensation fell 2.1 percent. That was in an atmosphere that was also very different from today’s, with extremely high inflation meaning prices outpaced wage gains. Consumer prices jumped 9.1 percent and wages rose 7.6 percent.

In the most recent quarter, unadjusted hourly compensation rose 2.0 percent compared with the 2020’s April through June period. CPI, however, was up 4.8 percent.

The losses to inflation are getting worse. Compared with the first quarter, real hourly compensation in the nonfarm business sector fell 4.8 percent.

Manufacturing compensation fell 3.3 percent compared with the start of the year and four percent compared with a year ago. That is the worst collapse ever. Compensation in durable goods manufacturing fell 2.8 percent on a quarterly basis and 4.3 percent from a year ago. Nondurable goods compensation was down 3.4 percent on both an annual and a quarterly basis.

Biden’s Immigration Policies Vs. National Security & Public Safety

Administration orders “shields down” in the midst of numerous foreign threats.

With just about all attention focused on the crisis on the U.S./Mexican border, scant if any attention is being paid to the many other ways aliens may enter the United States in violation of our immigration laws.

I have frequently written about the irrefutable fact that the United States has 50 border states and not just the four border states that abut with the Mexican border.

In addition to the four “border states” that everyone is well aware of, any state that lies along our nation’s northern border, lies along our nation’s 95,000 miles of coastline or has an international airport are all “border states.”

Aliens who run our nation’s borders are entering the United States without inspection, but then so do aliens who stow away on ships and then sneak off those ships.  Boats undoubtedly make landfall along our 95,000 mile coastline and enable aliens to also evade the inspections process that is mandated by immigration laws and protect the United States from the entry and presence of aliens who may pose a threat to national security, public safety, public health and the jobs and wages of Americans.

On June 6, 1993 a dilapidated and vermin-infested boat, the Golden Venture ran aground in the Rockaways, a coastal neighborhood in Queens, New York.  On board were some 300 illegal aliens from China who had paid alien smugglers thousands of dollars to enter the United States without inspection and they hoped, without detection.

On June 7, 2018 a local newspaper, The Rockaway Times, published a detailed report about that event, The Golden Venture: 25 Years Later.

Authorities only became aware of that aliens smuggling / human trafficking criminal enterprise because it failed.  The obvious question is how many such efforts have been successful?  As the saying goes, “You don’t know what you don’t know.”

Numerous reports prepared by the GAO also point to another means by which aliens enter the United States in violation of our immigration laws.  These aliens enter the United States and violate their immigration status.  All too frequently such aliens are referred to as “Visa Overstays.”  This tends to sound less ominous that the reality.  The notion that aliens remain past their authorized period of admission does not sound particularly  worrisome, after all, we have all had houseguests who stay too late and ruin our nights sleep.

Why then should we be concerned about aliens who don’t leave when they are supposed to?

The more accurate way of describing aliens who violate the terms to their admission is “Visa Violators.”  They not only remain beyond their authorized period of admission but likely violate other terms of their admission into the United States by, perhaps, accepting illegal employment or by committing serious crimes.

Many visa violators also lie on their applications for visas that they file at U.S. embassies and consulates around the world and also lie to the CBP (Customs and Border Protection) inspectors at ports of entry.

For the first four years of my thirty year career with the former INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) I was an Immigration Inspector assigned to John F. Kennedy International Airport before I became an INS Special Agent.  The frustrations of that job were constant and enormous.

Inspectors are generally expected to take about one minute to complete the inspection of an alien seeking entry into the United States.  On a limited basis when there are serious doubts about the alien’s admissibility into the United States that alien may be sent for a more in-depth “Secondary” inspection.  However, with CBP’s limited resources many aliens are simply admitted into the United States and they simply go hiding in plain sight.

Biden’s edict that illegal aliens not be arrested by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents unless they not only have outstanding Warrants of Removal (Deportation) but must also have convictions for serious crimes meant that aliens who can game the legal entry process at ports of entry and then violate our immigration laws have nothing to fear- but Americans most certainly do!

In fact, on May 11, 2006 I testified before a hearing conducted by the House Committee on International Relations, Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations on the topic, Visa Overstays: Can We Bar The Terrorist Door?  That hearing was convened because of serious concerns about how terrorists were able to easily game the immigration system to supposedly enter the United States legally, embed themselves in communities around the United States and go about their deadly preparations.

The preface of the official government report, “9/11 and  Terrorist Travel - Staff Report of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States” begins with the following paragraph:

It is perhaps obvious to state that terrorists cannot plan and carry out attacks in the United States if they are unable to enter the country. Yet prior to September 11, while there were efforts to enhance border security, no agency of the U.S. government thought of border security as a tool in the counterterrorism arsenal. Indeed, even after 19 hijackers demonstrated the relative ease of obtaining a U.S. visa and gaining admission into the United States, border security still is not considered a cornerstone of national security policy. We believe, for reasons we discuss in the following pages, that it must be made one.

Page 54 of above-noted report contained this excerpt under the title, “Terrorist Travel Tactics by Plot”-

Although there is evidence that some land and sea border entries (of terrorists) without inspection occurred, these conspirators mainly subverted the legal entry system by entering at airports.

In doing so, they relied on a wide variety of fraudulent documents, on aliases, and on government corruption. Because terrorist operations were not suicide missions in the early to mid-1990s, once in the United States terrorists and their supporters tried to get legal immigration status that would permit them to remain here, primarily by committing serial, or repeated, immigration fraud, by claiming political asylum, and by marrying Americans. Many of these tactics would remain largely unchanged and undetected throughout the 1990s and up to the 9/11 attack.

Thus, abuse of the immigration system and a lack of interior immigration enforcement were unwittingly working together to support terrorist activity. It would remain largely unknown, since no agency of the United States government analyzed terrorist travel patterns until after 9/11. This lack of attention meant that critical opportunities to disrupt terrorist travel and, therefore, deadly terrorist operations were missed.

Last month my article, Alleged Iranian Kidnap Plot Targeted Iranian/American Dissident In Brooklyn Connecting the immigration dots Biden ignores, focused on how an Iranian woman was able to enter the United States to participate in what was a foiled plot to kidnap a naturalized American citizen who had been born in Iran and has been writing articles critical of the Iranian regime.

On July 22, 2021 the Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a press release, Nine Individuals Charged in Superseding Indictment with Conspiring to Act as Illegal Agents of the People’s Republic of China.  The subtitle stated, “PRC Prosecutor Allegedly Traveled to the United States, Directed Stalking of U.S. Residents, and Obstructed Criminal Investigation.”

Here is the salient excerpt from that press release:

According to court documents, Tu Lan, 50, and Zhai Yongqiang, 46, both of China, are the latest two of nine charged in the superseding indictment. Co-defendants Hu Ji, 46 and Li Minjun, 65, both of China; Zhu Feng, 34, a Chinese national residing in Queens, New York; Michael McMahon, 53, of Mahwah, New Jersey; Zheng Congying, 24, of Brooklyn, New York; and Zhu Yong, aka Jason Zhu, 64, of Norwich, Connecticut, were previously charged in a related criminal complaint issued in October 2020 and a related indictment in May 2021. The name of the ninth defendant remains under seal.

According to court documents, the defendants allegedly acted at the direction and under the control of PRC government officials, conducted surveillance of and engaged in a campaign to harass, stalk and coerce certain residents of the United States to return to the PRC as part of a global, concerted and extralegal repatriation effort known as “Operation Fox Hunt.” The superseding indictment also alleges that Tu Lan, a new defendant who was employed as a prosecutor with the Hanyang People’s Procuratorate, traveled to the United States, directed the harassment campaign and ordered a co-conspirator to destroy evidence to obstruct the criminal investigation.

There was no mention of how the alleged Chinese prosecutor procured a visa to enter the United States, to allegedly oversee the operation.

This case was the subject of an earlier DOJ press release, dated October 28, 2020, Eight Individuals Charged With Conspiring to Act as Illegal Agents of the People’s Republic of China.  That press release also included a link to the initial Criminal Compaint which disclosed that most of the defendants in the case were either lawfully admitted permanent resident, aliens of the United States or a naturalized United States citizen.

In both of the above noted Iranian and Chinese cases, governments that are hostile to the United States were able to insert their operatives into the United States by potentially committing immigration and visa fraud. Nevertheless, a review of DOJ press releases shows that no attention is being given to visa fraud by the Biden administration. Indeed, as I noted in a recent report in which I addressed another case involving alleged Chinese espionage, Biden Dept. of Justice Drops Criminal Charges Lodged Against Five Chinese Spies.

America’s adversaries are having a field day while America’s national security and public safety are undermined by the Biden administration, even as the 20th anniversary of the terror attacks of 9/11 looms large on the horizon.
