San Francisco Residents Hire Private Security to Stave Off Crime: ‘We Don’t Feel Safe in Our Neighborhood’

At least 150 residents in San Francisco’s Marina District have hired private security as crimes in the area have caused significant concerns among community members.

“We don’t feel safe in our neighborhood,” Marina resident Katie Lyons told CBS SF. “And we have an alarm, we have cameras on our property, but we want the extra security of having someone have eyes on our place.”

She informed the outlet that frequent car break-ins and home burglaries prompted her to hire private security, CBS SF reported. Lyons and other residents have hired Patrol Special Officer Alan Byard to keep tabs on the neighborhood. Patrol special officers such as Byard are overseen by the police commission, according to the outlet.

“It’s a nice area down here, people are afraid of what’s been going on,” Byard told CBS SF. “They want a safe place to raise their kids. In the last year, I’ve had 10 of my clients move out of the city.”

Since the advent of the pandemic, Byard says his clientele in the Marina area rose from 70 to 150, according to CBS SF. The patrol special officer says that car break-ins are one of the significant issues along with homeless individuals sleeping on residents’ doorsteps, according to CBS SF.

Burglaries have jumped significantly throughout San Francisco since the pre-pandemic days of 2019. According to the San Francisco Police Department’s Crime Dashboard records, from January 1, 2019 – October 17, 2019, San Francisco saw 3,955 burglaries. Over the same time period in 2021, the city saw 5,800 burglaries. The police department reports 5,864 burglaries over the same period in 2020.

Lyons says that she has to take special precautions when traveling in her community. “Especially at night, I don’t walk with a purse, I’ll drive, or I’ll take an Uber, and it’s beginning to become a daytime problem too,” she told CBS SF.

Australian singer Clinton Kane says he was held at gunpoint on October 15 in the Marina area of San Francisco after witnessing his car was being broken into, according to CBS SF.

“We kind of heard glass shatter, and we looked over and we kind of knew it was our car already,” Kane told the outlet. “We basically, three of us, two of my mates went over to the car, and as soon as we tried stopping them, they pulled out guns on us, all three of them, and then we ended up on the floor with our hands raised.”

The singer says that thieves took off with $30,000 worth of camera equipment, according to the outlet.

On October 19, San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced a $100,000 reward on information regarding rampant auto burglaries. While she was speaking a car was broken into just blocks away which belonged to a couple visiting from Seattle, Washington, according to Fox News.

Walgreens Closes Five Bay Area Stores amid Shoplifting Surge

The ongoing shoplifting surge has forced Walgreens to close five more San Francisco stores as local law enforcement continues to do next to nothing to curtail the problem.

In a statement to SF Gate, Walgreens spokesman Phil Caruso confirmed “organized retail crime” has strangled San Francisco stores.

“Organized retail crime continues to be a challenge facing retailers across San Francisco, and we are not immune to that,” Caruso said. “Retail theft across our San Francisco stores has continued to increase in the past few months to five times our chain average.”

“During this time to help combat this issue, we increased our investments in security measures in stores across the city to 46 times our chain average in an effort to provide a safe environment,” he added.

Asha Safai, San Francisco Board of Supervisor for District 11 admitted to feeling “devastated” over the closure a Walgreens store that has “been a staple for seniors, families and children for decades.”

“I am completely devastated by this news – this Walgreens is less than a mile from seven schools and has been a staple for seniors, families and children for decades. This closure will significantly impact this community,” he tweeted.

Safai told SFGate that the shoplifting had crippled the store’s bottom-line and endangered the staff and customers to an unhealthy degree.

“This is a sad day for San Francisco,” Safai said. “We can’t continue to let these anchor institutions close that so many people rely on.”

Shoplifting has skyrocketed in San Francisco recently, likely a result of Proposition 47, which dictates stealing would not be a felony in California if the item stolen did not exceed $950.

The damage has been felt across a range of business outlets.

In May of this year, The San Francisco News described the situation as being “out of control,” noting that 17 Walgreens have had to close in the past five years due to rampant shoplifting in the city.

17 Walgreen locations in San Francisco have closed their doors within the last five years according to a report from the SF Chronicle. Ten of these closures transpired from 2019 to this year with the last Walgreens store to close its door as of this writing, back on March 17. The cause of the closures is due to rampant shoplifting and looting that has transpired at Walgreen locations in the city believed to be perpetuated by an organized crime ring.

On Thursday, May 13 a hearing was held by the Board of Supervisors with retailers, the SFPD, the district attorney’s office, and probation departments. Brendan Dugan, director of organized retail crime and corporate investigations, believes that San Francisco is at the center of organized retail crime. He brought up a state bust in the Bay Area from last year in which $8 million in stolen merchandise was confiscated from five suspects. The merchandise came from CVS, Target and Walgreens stores from all across San Francisco.

The lack of enforcement made shoplifters so nonchalant and casual they would often steal in broad daylight while awestruck customers documented the crime on their iPhones, allowing for some viral internet moments.

San Diego Sector Border Patrol officials announced an alarming trend of “dangerous failure-to-yield” incidents involving human smugglers. Officials say the 475 percent increase in pursuits in October led to crashes causing serious injuries and hospitalizations.

Between October 1 and 27, San Diego Sector agents engaged in 23 failure-to-yield incidents involving human smugglers. During the same period one year ago, the agents only engaged in four such incidents — an increase of 475 percent, officials stated.

In many of these failure-to-yield incidents, USBP agents witnessed “excessive speeds, reckless driving, vehicle crashes, and property damage accounting for numerous injuries and hospitalizations,” sector officials said in a written statement.

Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke added, “This reckless behavior poses a serious risk to our neighborhoods, the motoring public, and our agents. We will not tolerate these tactics and will continue to seek criminal prosecution for anyone involved in them.”

Officials cited an incident that took place on October 19 at about 7 a.m. Agents working near Chula Vista, California, received information about a suspected human smuggling incident. Agents responded and attempted to stop the vehicle by using their emergency lights and siren.

The driver failed to yield and led agents in a pursuit that entered local neighborhoods. At some point, the driver stopped and all of the occupants jumped out and fled on foot.

The driver absconded, but a follow-up investigation led to his arrest. The agents also located several of the migrants after they fled on foot. All were determined to be in the U.S. illegally, officials stated.

Other articles by Breitbart Texas detail the dangerous tactic of smugglers fleeing from Border Patrol agents.

THE NEW PRIVILEGED CLASS: Illegals!

This is why you work From Jan - May paying taxes to the government ....with the rest of the calendar year is money for you and your family.

Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or 6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, with his fake Social Security number, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200..... free.

He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.

He qualifies for food stamps.

He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.

His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.

He requires bilingual teachers and books.

He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.

If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI.

Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at (our) taxpayer's expense.

He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.

Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.

He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits.

Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after Paying their bills and his.

The American taxpayers also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash clean-up.

THE TAX-FREE MEXICAN UNDERGROUND ECONOMY IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY IS ESTIMATED TO BE IN EXCESS OF $2 BILLION YEARLY!

Staggering expensive "cheap" Mexican labor did not build this once great nation! Look what it has done to Mexico. It's all about keeping wages depressed and passing along the true cost of the invasion, their welfare, and crime tidal wave costs to the backs of the American people!

This annual income for an impoverished American family is $10,000 less than the more than $34,500 in federal funds which are spent on each unaccompanied minor border crosser.

study by Tom Wong of the University of California at San Diego discovered that more than 25 percent of DACA-enrolled illegal aliens in the program have anchor babies. That totals about 200,000 anchor babies who are the children of DACA-enrolled illegal aliens. This does not include the anchor babies of DACA-qualified illegal aliens. JOHN BINDER

As Breitbart News has reported, U.S. households headed by foreign-born residents use nearly twice the welfare of households headed by native-born Americans.

Simultaneously, illegal immigration next year is on track to soar to the highest level in a decade, with a potential 600,000 border crossers expected.

Exclusive–Steve Camarota: Every Illegal Alien Costs Americans $70K Over Their Lifetime

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/04/11/exclusive-steve-camarota-every-illegal-alien-costs-americans-70k-over-their-lifetime/

JOHN BINDER

Every illegal alien, over the course of their lifetime, costs American taxpayers about $70,000, Center for Immigration Studies Director of Research Steve Camarota says.

During an interview with SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Daily, Camarota said his research has revealed the enormous financial burden that illegal immigration has on America’s working and middle class taxpayers in terms of public services, depressed wages, and welfare.

“In a person’s lifetime, I’ve estimated that an illegal border crosser might cost taxpayers … maybe over $70,000 a year as a net cost,” Camarota said. “And that excludes the cost of their U.S.-born children, which gets pretty big when you add that in.”

LISTEN:

“Once [an illegal alien] has a child, they can receive cash welfare on behalf of their U.S.-born children,” Camarota explained. “Once they have a child, they can live in public housing. Once they have a child, they can receive food stamps on behalf of that child. That’s how that works.”

Camarota said the education levels of illegal aliens, border crossers, and legal immigrants are largely to blame for the high level of welfare usage by the f0reign-born population in the U.S., noting that new arrivals tend to compete for jobs against America’s poor and working class communities.

In past waves of mass immigration, Camarota said, the U.S. did not have an expansive welfare system. Today’s ever-growing welfare system, coupled with mass illegal and legal immigration levels, is “extremely problematic,” according to Camarota, for American taxpayers.

The RAISE Act — reintroduced in the Senate by Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR), David Perdue (R-GA), and Josh Hawley (R-MO) — would cut legal immigration levels in half and convert the immigration system to favor well-educated foreign nationals, thus relieving American workers and taxpayers of the nearly five-decade-long wave of booming immigration. Currently, mass legal immigration redistributes the wealth of working and middle class Americans to the country’s top earners.

“Virtually none of that existed in 1900 during the last great wave of immigration, when we also took in a number of poor people. We didn’t have a well-developed welfare state,” Camarota continued:

We’re not going to stop [the welfare state] tomorrow. So in that context, bringing in less educated people who are poor is extremely problematic for public coffers, for taxpayers in a way that it wasn’t in 1900 because the roads weren’t even paved between the cities in 1900. It’s just a totally different world. And that’s the point of the RAISE Act is to sort of bring in line immigration policy with the reality say of a large government … and a welfare state. [Emphasis added]

The immigrants are not all coming to get welfare and they don’t immediately sign up, but over time, an enormous fraction sign their children up. It’s likely the case that of the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants, more than half are signed up for Medicaid — which is our most expensive program. [Emphasis added]

As Breitbart News has reported, U.S. households headed by foreign-born residents use nearly twice the welfare of households headed by native-born Americans.

Every year the U.S. admits more than 1.5 million foreign nationals, with the vast majority deriving from chain migration. In 2017, the foreign-born population reached a record high of 44.5 million. By 2023, the Center for Immigration Studies estimates that the legal and illegal immigrant population of the U.S. will make up nearly 15 percent of the entire U.S. population.

Another line they cut into: Illegals get free public housing as impoverished Americans wait

Want some perspective on why so many blue sanctuary cities have so many homeless encampments hovering around?

Try the reality that illegal immigrants are routinely given free public housing by the U.S., based on the fact that they are uneducated, unskilled, and largely unemployable. Those are the criteria, and now importing poverty has never been easier. Shockingly, this comes as millions of poor Americans are out in the cold awaiting that housing that the original law was intended to help.

Thus, the tent cities, and by coincidence, the worst of these emerging shantytowns are in blue sanctuary cities loaded with illegal immigrants - Orange County, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, New York...Is there a connection? At a minimum, it's worth looking at.

The Trump administration's Department of Housing and Urban Development is finally trying to put a stop to it as 1.5 million illegals prepare to enter the U.S. this year, and one can only wonder why they didn't do it yesterday.

According to a report in the Washington Times:

The plan would scrap Clinton-era regulations that allowed illegal immigrants to sign up for assistance without having to disclose their status.

Under the new Trump rules, not only would the leaseholder using public housing have to be an eligible U.S. person, but the government would verify all applicants through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database, a federal system that’s used to weed illegal immigrants out of other welfare programs.

Those already getting HUD assistance would have to go through a new verification, though it would be over a period of time and wouldn’t all come at once.

“We’ve got our own people to house and need to take care of our citizens,” an administration official told The Washington Times. “Because of past loopholes in HUD guidance, illegal aliens were able to live in free public housing desperately needed by so many of our own citizens. As illegal aliens attempt to swarm our borders, we’re sending the message that you can’t live off of American welfare on the taxpayers’ dime.”

The Times notes that the rules are confusingly contradictary, and some illegal immigrant families are getting full rides based on just one member being born in the U.S. The pregnant caravaner who calculatingly slipped across the U.S. in San Diego late last year, only to have her baby the next day, now, along with her entire family, gets that free ride on government housing. Plus lots of cheesy news coverage about how heartwarming it all is. That's a lot cheaper than any housing she's going to find back in Tegucigalpa.

Migrants would be almost fools not to take the offering.

The problem of course is that Americans who paid into these programs, and the subset who find themselves in dire circumstances, are in fact being shut out.

The fill-the-pews Catholic archbishops may love to tout the virtues of illegal immigrants and wave signs about getting 'justice" for them, but the hard fact here is that these foreign nationals are stealing from others as they take this housing benefit under legal technicalities. That's not a good thing under anyone's theological law. But hypocrisy is comfortable ground for the entire open borders lobby as they shamelessly celebrate lawbreaking at the border, leaving the impoverished of the U.S. out cold.

The Trump administration is trying to have this outrage fixed by summer. But don't imagine it won't be without the open-borders lawsuits, the media sob stories, the leftist judges, and the scolding clerics.

Los Angeles County Pays Over a Billion in Welfare to Illegal Aliens Over Two Years

BY MASOOMA HAQ

In 2015 and 2016, Los Angeles County paid nearly $1.3 billion in welfare funds to illegal aliens and their families. That figure amounts to 25 percent of the total spent on the county’s entire needy population, according to Fox News.

The state of California is home to more illegal aliens than any other state in the country. Approximately one in five illegal aliens lives in California, Pew reported.

Approximately a quarter of California’s 4 million illegal immigrants reside in Los Angeles County. The county allows illegal immigrant parents with children born in the United States to seek welfare and food stamp benefits.

The welfare benefits data acquired by Fox News comes from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services and shows welfare and food stamp costs for the county’s entire population were $3.1 billion in 2015, $2.9 billion in 2016.

The data also shows that during the first five months of 2017, more than 60,000 families received a total of $181 million.

Over 58,000 families received a total of $602 million in benefits in 2015 and more than 64,000 families received a total of $675 million in 2016.

Robert Rector, a Heritage Foundation senior fellow who studies poverty and illegal immigration, told Fox the costs represent “the tip of the iceberg.”

“They get $3 in benefits for every $1 they spend,” Rector said. It can cost the government a total of $24,000 per year per family to pay for things like education, police, fire, medical, and subsidized housing.

In February of 2019, the Los Angeles city council signed a resolution making it a sanctuary city. The resolution did not provide any new legal protections to their immigrants, but instead solidified existing policies.

In October 2017, former California governor Jerry Brown signed SB 54 into law. This bill made California, in Brown’s own words, a “sanctuary state.” The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against the State of California over the law. A federal judge dismissed that suit in July. SB 54 took effect on Jan. 1, 2018.

According to Center for Immigration Studies, “The new law does many things: It forbids all localities from cooperating with ICE detainer notices, it bars any law enforcement officer from participating in the popular 287(g) program, and it prevents state and local police from inquiring about individuals’ immigration status.”

Some counties in California have protested its implementation and joined the Trump administration’s lawsuit against the state.

California’s campaign to provide public services to illegal immigrants did not end with the exit of Jerry Brown. His successor, Gavin Newsom, is just as focused as Brown in funding programs for illegal residents at the expense of California taxpayers.

California’s budget earmarks millions of dollars annually to the One California program, which provides free legal assistance to all aliens, including those facing deportation, and makes California’s public universities easier for illegal-alien students to attend.

According to the Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on United States Taxpayers 2017 report, for the estimated 12.5 million illegal immigrants living in the country, the resulting cost is a $116 billion burden on the national economy and taxpayers each year, after deducting the $19 billion in taxes paid by some of those illegal immigrants.

BLOG: MOST FIGURES PUT THE NUMBER OF ILLEGALS IN THE U.S. AT ABOUT 40 MILLION. WHEN THESE PEOPLE ARE HANDED AMNESTY, THEY ARE LEGALLY ENTITLED TO BRING UP THE REST OF THEIR FAMILY EFFECTIVELY LEAVING MEXICO DESERTED.

New data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that more than 22 million non-citizens now live in the United States.

"This is how they will destroy America from within.  The leftist billionaires who orchestrate these plans are wealthy. Those tasked with representing us in Congress will never be exposed to the cost of the invasion of millions of migrants.  They have nothing but contempt for those of us who must endure the consequences of our communities being intruded upon by gang members, drug dealers and human traffickers.  These people have no intention of becoming Americans; like the Democrats who welcome them, they have contempt for us." PATRICIA McCARTHY

Exclusive — Rock Bottom: GOP Poll Shows Nancy Pelosi Net Favorability Dropping Double Digits in Past 8 Months

Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is bottoming out in the eyes of Americans according to a GOP internal poll obtained exclusively by Breitbart News.

The leader of congressional Democrats has dropped double digits in approval rating since February per the latest National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) battleground survey results, a whole new low for Pelosi that further complicates Democrats’ efforts to pass President Joe Biden’s agenda and save their majorities in the U.S. House and Senate next year.

The results, obtained by Breitbart News, show that Pelosi has fallen to just a 36 percent approval rating across congressional battleground districts—with a solid majority of 57 percent of Americans disapproving of her performance. This October battleground poll, therefore, means she is 21 points underwater—a full 10 percent worse than she was in the NRCC’s February survey, when Pelosi was just 11 percent underwater.

“It is impressive that the least popular politician in the country has somehow managed to become even more unpopular,” NRCC spokesman Mike Berg told Breitbart News. “We are going to ensure voters know that Nancy Pelosi is the running mate for every vulnerable Democrat who backed her for Speaker of the House.”

Voters last November significantly cut into Democrats’ latest House majority, which they regained in the 2018 midterms during now former President Donald Trump’s administration, severing it down to a five-seat advantage over Republicans. A number of vulnerable Democrats have already abandoned their districts ahead of the upcoming 2022 midterm elections, signaling a likely GOP retaking of the U.S. House majority next year.

For example, Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) announced retirement plans, Rep. Conor Lamb (D-PA) is running for U.S. Senate instead of holding his seat, Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) has switched districts in Texas to run in a safer Democrat-held seat represented by the retiring Rep. Filemon Vela (D-TX) thereby essentially handing his current district to Republicans, and so and on and so forth across America.

Even Pelosi’s inner circle is uneasy about the upcoming midterms already, with House Democrat Whip Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) saying this week—more than a year from next year’s elections—that he does not sense a will to win among Democrats.

“I’m not too sure that Democrats have yet developed the will to win in 2022,” said this week in remarks to the Charleston Jewish Federation. “I think we can. I’m not sure we will.”

Pelosi was previously Speaker of the House back during the end of former President George W. Bush’s second term and beginning of former President Barack Obama’s first term—losing the gavel in the 2010 midterm elections. Republicans led the House for the next eight years, until Pelosi and her Democrats regained it in the first midterm elections under Trump. Pelosi has been Speaker since January 2019, and oversaw two impeachment pushes against Trump and since then has led Democrat efforts to try to help force Biden’s agenda through Congress.

Despite her reputation as a master legislator, even Pelosi has struggled to get Biden’s plans through her chamber as Democrats from both sides of their party—and from both sides of Capitol Hill—express widening gulfs of disagreement internally on everything from the policy to the politics of getting stuff done.

Pelosi has attempted to, along with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and President Biden himself, this week rejuvenate Biden’s agenda and push a Senate-passed bipartisan infrastructure framework through the House as soon as Thursday. Leftist progressives have scuttled several previous efforts to pass the bill through the House, linking it forever to the broader Biden agenda vehicle through which Democrats aim to use a budget gimmick called reconciliation to pass it with just Democrat votes.

That move allows them to circumvent the Senate’s 60-vote filibuster threshold, but for it to work they need unanimous support among Senate Democrats and close to unanimous support among House Democrats. To this point, warring factions of Democrats—so-called moderates led by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and so-called progressives led by Sen. Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent who caucuses with Democrats, and Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) chair Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA)—have blocked Biden’s push for his agenda.

While most Republicans expect the Democrats will eventually get something through, previous high hopes among party leftist faithful for a New Deal-like or Great Society-like massive restructuring of American society and life seems unlikely. Nonetheless, Biden, in remarks to congressional Democrats on Thursday before he departed for a climate summit in Rome with world leaders, framed his scaled-back agenda as still bigger than both the transformational Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) and Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ) programs combined. Selling that fallacy to the American public, however, falls more on Pelosi’s shoulders than Biden’s, and she has been reportedly urging Democrats to “embrace” the new drawn down Biden agenda as historic rather than a failure to get what they said would do done.

How the American people will judge Democrats—from Biden on down through Pelosi, Schumer, and the rest of the rank and file on Capitol Hill—will be ultimately decided a little more than a year away when Americans head to the polls in the midterm elections and decide whether the Democrats should retain their majorities in both chamber of Congress. With redistricting almost complete nationwide—Republicans did pick up some major advantages there and with reapportionment after the U.S. Census moved several seats from blue states to red states—and with an increasing number of Democrats running for the hills instead of for reelection to their current seats, the GOP seems to have the edge in the U.S. House as it stands right now.

With Virginia’s governor election looming next week, a win by GOP businessman Glenn Youngkin would likely send more Democrats into hiding—but polls there remain tight and it is unclear what will happen. On the U.S. Senate side of things, Republicans need to net just one extra seat to retake their majority in that chamber—and polls from everywhere from Georgia to New Hampshire to Nevada to Arizona seem to indicate energy on the GOP side. However, Republicans need to hold a lot more battleground states like Pennsylvania, Florida, Wisconsin, Ohio, and North Carolina—many with retiring Republican incumbents—to have a shot at flipping the Senate.
