New Orleans DA: Teens Accused of Murdering Senior in Carjacking Will Be Tried as Adults

Four BLACK teens will be tried as adults on

second-degree murder charges in New Orleans

after prosecutors said they carjacked 73-year-

d grandmother Linda Frickley and dragged her

down the street while she was still attached to

her vehicle until her arm was severed. She died

on the scene moments later, WWL reported.

The teens — identified by the outlet as John Honore, 17; Lenyra Theophile, 15;  Mar’Qel Curtis, 15; and Briniyah Baker, 15 — were indicted by a grand jury on second-degree murder charges Thursday, the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office said. All of the teens are being held on a $1 million bond.

“These four have been charged as adults because, simply put: the juvenile court system is not designed for this,” District Attorney Jason Williams said at a press conference Thursday. “Four or five years for these criminal acts is just not enough.”

“Conviction on a second-degree murder charge carries a mandatory life sentence,” WWL noted. “In cases involving murder, the difference between juvenile and adult court could mean the difference between a defendant staying in prison until age 21 versus a life sentence.”

The incident happened in the 300 block of North Scott Street on March 21, the DA’s Office announced in a release. Williams said the “crime happened at 1:00 p.m, in broad daylight, on a school day” as Frickley was leaving work and walking to her car. He added that she was punched and kicked in the process.

Police said Frickley became trapped in her seatbelt while the crew of three girls and one boy sped down the block, causing her arm to detach from her torso and her death minutes later, WWL reported.

Leanne and Mark Mascar comforted Frickley in her final moments before she died at the scene, according to the outlet.

“I was telling this woman to hang in there,” Mark said. “Every time I heard a siren, I was hoping and praying that was an ambulance.”

The Orleans Parish Coroner determined “blunt force trauma” was the cause of her death, WWL noted.

“The parents of one of the youngest teens turned their daughter over to authorities, and the parent of the 17-year-old boy did the same. Once officers located the boy, they also discovered the 16-year-old, and the second 15-year-old was located” on March 22, as Breitbart News previously reported.

Williams said he has spoken to Frickely’s family and a myriad of her friends who painted the picture of a loving and selfless person.

“Every single person to a fault has had nothing but glowing things to say about this phenomenal senior who was still actively working in our community and not scared to go in any neighborhood,” he explained.

WDSU reported that Frickley was a grandmother.

Williams acknowledged that some community members may be upset that he charged the teens as adults.

“Now, I know that there are some in this community, who will absolutely say that I am wrong for charging these four young people as adults, while I say it was wrong of them to prey on and kill one of our elders,” Williams said Thursday.

“It is equally wrong to ignore the absurd state of affairs we are living now in the city of New Orleans,” he went on to add. “It is wrong that this city is collectively, utterly failing our children and consequently every citizen and every visitor to this city.”

He emphasized that the four juveniles should have been in school at the time of the incident and said truancy “is rampant” and “unaddressed” in the city. Williams met with the incoming superintendent and said they would be working in partnership to address attendance issues.

Four assailants remain on the loose after the New York City Police Department (NYPD) said the group kicked, whipped, and stabbed a 46-year-old man outside a Queens bar this month.

The incident occurred outside of El Pasillo bar and nightclub located on 103rd Street in Queens’ Corona neighborhood at about 3:45 a.m. on April 17, police said. The NYPD told Breitbart News via email that four men attempted to enter the club but were denied, leading to a dispute between the group and the club’s management and security.

A 46-year-old bystander then tried to intervene but was met with kicks from two members of the group, while another brandished a belt and proceeded to whip the victim, police said. A fourth suspect stabbed the 46-year-old three times before the crew fled the scene on foot, police said. The victim was conveyed to NYC Health and Hospitals Elmhurst in critical condition, though his condition has since stabilized, police said.

Police said the club’s bouncer, 22-year-old Pedro Delacruz, fired a gunshot in the air in hopes of dispersing the crowd and was arrested days later on April 22, the New York Daily News reported. He was charged with criminal possession of a loaded firearm and criminal possession of a weapon. After first being held on a $250,000 bond or $25,000 cash bail, Delacruz was released without bail following a court appearance Wednesday, the Daily News said.

The incident comes as crime rates in New York City have climbed under the watch of Mayor Eric Adams. From January 1 through April 24, felony assaults have jumped 21.4 percent compared to the same period in 2021, the NYPD’s crime statistics show. Similarly, misdemeanor assaults have increased 29.8 percent, grand larceny is up 54 percent, and transit crime is up a staggering 65.3 percent over the same period compared to last year.

Welfare

More than 7-in-10 households headed by immigrants in the state of California are on taxpayer-funded welfare, a new study reveals.

Our third world country on the West Coast

A few years ago, a friend from Brazil visited Los Angeles and was appalled with what he saw.   He called it a third world country, a rather amazing comment since my friend lives in Sao Paulo.  He said that LA is not what he remembered 25 years ago.  It was sad, or so he said.

Well, California is in decline no matter how wonderful the climate is.  Just ask the people who live there like Joel Kotkin:

Despite the state’s myriad advantages, research shows it plagued by economic immobility and inequality, crushing housing and energy costs, and a failing education system.

Worse than just a case of progressive policies creating regressive outcomes, it appears California is descending into something resembling modern-day feudalism, with the poor and weak trapped by policies subsidized by taxes paid by the rich and powerful.

California may conjure images of Rodeo Drive and Malibu mansions in the public imagination, but today the state suffers the highest cost-adjusted poverty rate in the U.S.

The poor and near-poor constitute over one third -- well over 10 million -- of the state’s residents according to the Public Policy Institute of California.

Los Angeles, by far the state’s largest metropolitan area, and once a magnet for middle class aspirations, has one of the highest poverty rates among major U.S. cities.

A United Way of California analysis shows that over 30 percent of residents lack sufficient income to cover basic living costs even after accounting for public-assistance programs; this includes half of Latino and 40 percent of black residents.

Some two-thirds of noncitizen Latinos live at or below the poverty line.

How does such a failed state survive? Well, the rich live in well-protected gated communities and attend a climate change seminar often to feel relevant. The poor, and whatever is left of the middle class, have to survive the crime, high cost of living and a collapse of law and order.

Normally, such a political class would be thrown out of office by angry voters.  Incredibly, the Democrats have achieved the winning formula: they win elections while refusing to take care of their constituents. I don't know how they do it but they do it.

So don't expect anyone to record a tune about California dreaming.

Business owners considering arming themselves amid crime surge

LA Residents got What They Wanted: Criminals Who Aren’t Afraid

This is what the people of Los Angeles wanted. They put their police force on a short leash, blaming the overworked officers for the least amount of violence against criminals while at the same time absolving the criminals of responsibility. It has led to increasing numbers of officers leaving the force or retiring early. With fewer officers on the street and those that are being hesitant to act, the criminals are taking advantage of the situation.

The Los Angeles Police Department recently started warning people not to wear expensive jewelry in public, or they might become the target of thieves. Thieves have become so brazen that they smashed in the front window of Luxury Jewels, a Beverly Hills jewelry store, in broad daylight and fled with merchandise estimated to be worth $3 to $5 million dollars.

“We’re in the heart of Beverly Hills. Who thought this would happen in broad daylight?” Owner Peter Sedghi said.

“Over the last year, there has been a marked increase of armed robberies involving victims wearing expensive jewelry while in public. If it is visible, it can be a target,” an LAPD statement said.

The Associated Press also reported about other high-end robberies. “In one case, the armed thieves allegedly stole more than $3,600 worth of jewelry from a man at a mall parking garage. In the other incident, one victim was pistol-whipped and the other had their Rolex and phone stolen at gunpoint during a follow-home robbery,” according to the AP.

In the city of Los Angeles alone, robberies are up 18 percent this year compared to the same time in 2021. Robberies with a firearm are up 44 percent in the same time period across the city.

This means that not only is there a greater chance that a victim may be shot, but police responding to the incident are also endangered. Because of the growing exodus of police officers, police departments are working to put new officers on the street faster. This could be a mistake for a couple of reasons. One, officers need to be trained on how to respond properly to a situation. Lack of training is one of the reasons often cited as why police reputations have taken a hit. Two, those new officers need to have it drilled into them to always wear personal protective gear when dealing with the public. Nowadays, they often aren’t because they are being taught to understand the criminal and not trigger them to violence.

In November 2021, detectives from the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division formed a Follow-Home Task Force to investigate crimes where people are targeted by criminals and tailed home or to an isolated area. It focused on areas of the city that were wealthier and had high-end businesses.

“The victims were being targeted based on the high-end jewelry they were wearing or the high-end car they were driving,” police said in a statement when the task force was announced.

Don’t expect it to be enough -- and not because the police aren’t doing their jobs. They are risking their lives to capture criminals, only to have liberal district attorneys and judges release them or give them a soft sentence.

When there’s no fear of punishment, you can’t expect the bad behavior to stop.

“You can’t blame the cops. Between the defunding movements, the race hoaxes, and the revolving doors in prosecutors’ offices, what are the police supposed to do? They’re under-staffed, under-funded, under fire, and at constant risk of becoming the corporate media’s hate object of the week. A police department can’t function at 100 percent under those circumstances,” states a Breitbart article by John Nolte.

You also have a problem when people ignore simple rules that will help keep them safe, such as heeding the advice of the police and not wearing expensive jewelry. While some people have paid attention, there are others like Brenda Nolan, a 70-year-old woman who believed she could defend herself against armed robbers because she knows karate. It sounds like she may believe too many of the movies they make in Los Angeles.

Sadly, she and other residents may wind up becoming victims of the criminals believed to be misunderstood and who don’t deserve to be punished.

It is reminiscent of something parents sometimes say about destructive children. It applies to the Democrats in Los Angeles and their soft stance on crime. “They’re the reason we can’t have nice things.”

The South Carolina Democratic Party Has a Cocaine (Trafficking) Problem

In the last three years, political operative Jason Belton joined a billionaire Democrat's presidential campaign, became a campaign manager for a U.S. Senate race, and won election to a South Carolina Democratic Party leadership position—all while under federal indictment for trafficking nearly nine pounds of cocaine.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Belton and a co-conspirator in February 2017 contacted a drug source in California to request large quantities of cocaine, which they planned to distribute out of Columbia, S.C. Days later, the indictment states, Belton accepted a package containing four kilograms of coke from San Bernardino drug dealer Estevan Ortiz, who is also known as "Stevie," "Wonder," and "Little Man."

Federal agents went on to arrest Belton in South Carolina in January 2018. As the case progressed, however, Belton became implicated in a nationwide drug trafficking ring that federal authorities busted in 2020 following a three-year investigation. Belton's California connects were caught with 77 kilograms of cocaine, 9 kilograms of heroin, 150 pounds of methamphetamine, 989 fentanyl pills, 19 guns, and nearly $2 million in cash, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a January 2020 press release. Following the bust, federal prosecutors moved Belton's case to the Golden State, where it remains active.

But Belton's apparent criminality has done little to deter his career—in fact, the operative's political sphere expanded significantly after his arrest. In August 2019, Belton joined liberal billionaire Tom Steyer's presidential campaign as its deputy political director, a gig that earned him more than $40,000 over a six-months period. After Steyer left the race in February 2020, Belton cofounded a political consulting firm, C&J Consulting, which boasts at least one client: Democratic South Carolina state legislator Krystle Matthews, who is challenging Republican senator Tim Scott. Belton, who in January was elected the third chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party Black Caucus, has described himself as Matthews's campaign manager.

Belton's political work did overlap with his criminal indictment in one instance. In March 2020, Belton successfully persuaded the court to remove his GPS ankle monitor because he said it interfered with his work as a "lobbyist."

"Belton now wishes to eliminate the GPS location monitoring condition which requires him to wear an electronic ankle bracelet," Belton's attorney wrote in a court filing. "Belton has advised me that he is a lobbyist and the electronic ankle bracelet presents a problem for him with security on his frequent entries into the State House in Columbia, South Carolina."

Belton and the South Carolina Democratic Party did not return requests for comment.

In addition to his affiliation with Steyer and Matthews, Belton has worked with an array of prominent South Carolina Democrats through his state party leadership role. Gubernatorial candidates Joe Cunningham and Mia McLeod attended the South Carolina Democratic Party Black Caucus's "Sunday Dinner" event in March, as did former presidential candidate Jesse Jackson. Belton's self-described "grassroots political action" nonprofit, Vision Walkers, also provided security for House majority whip Jim Clyburn (D., S.C.) during an August 2020 event in Columbia.

Due to the size and complexity of Belton's federal drug case—the indictment lists 23 additional defendants—the operative's trial has been delayed on at least four occasions as attorneys sort through evidence. Belton is scheduled to travel to California for trial in August, just two months after Matthews will face off against two opponents in South Carolina's Democratic Senate primary election. He won't have to worry about covering the travel costs, however. In March 2021, the court granted a request from Belton's attorney that orders the U.S. Marshals Service to "furnish defendant Jason Donnell Belton with air fare, lodging, and per diem subsistence expenses in connection with the trial of this case."

Belton's 2018 arrest was not his first significant run-in with law enforcement. In 2007, local police arrested Belton over his involvement in a drive-by shooting. Belton, who was 19 at the time, received six months' probation for "criminal conspiracy," court records show.

But the political operative's criminal history and active legal battle are not the only sources of controversy for South Carolina Democrats. Belton's business partner, fellow C&J Consulting and Vision Walkers cofounder Craig Khanwell, is a longtime follower of anti-Semitic Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who has compared Jews to termites. Khanwell—who serves as South Carolina Democratic Party Black Caucus second chair—has referred to Farrakhan as his father figure, praised Farrakhan as "the epitome of the greatest among men," and argued that accusations of anti-Semitism are merely "a trick" to "stifle legitimate criticism of Jews and Zionist Israel."

Khanwell has also espoused extreme anti-vaccine conspiracy theories. In one Instagram post, he said taking the vaccine would mean giving Bill Gates, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and other "white" men "control of my molecular information." In another post, Khanwell shared a TikTok that called COVID the "biggest hoax of America" and speculated that those who died from the virus may have actually died from the flu. In June 2021, the South Carolina Democratic Party blamed Republicans for the state's "extremely low vaccination rates."
