DEA Chief: 'Greatest Threat Facing Our Communities' Is 'Deadly Fentanyl'

By Susan Jones | September 29, 2022 | 6:54am EDT

(CNSNews.com) - Anne Milgram, head of the Drug Enforcement Administration, says her agency's top concern is the fentanyl that is trafficked into the United States by Mexican cartels and sold through social media.

Shortly after Milgram spoke, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) told a news conference that Americans must get serious about the fentanyl threat, and she made three recommendations, including border security. (Read her remarks below.)

"Well first of all, we believe that the greatest threat facing our communities, our families, our kids, is the deadly fentanyl that we are seeing in the United States that is brought here by the two cartels in Mexico; Sinaloa and the CJNG Jalisco cartel, period," Milgram told Fox News on Wednesday.

"We are focused on this. We just finished a four-month operational effort where we took 10 million fake fentanyl pills off the street that look like they're real pills, like they're oxy or they're Percocet or they're Hydrocodone.

"We also took almost 1,000 pounds of fentanyl. Why that's important is the work of the men and women of DEA in less than four months, that amount of fentanyl is the equivalent of 36 million potential lethal doses."

Fentanyl now comes in "rainbow" colors, Milgram said, apparently designed to appeal to younger children.

"We have not seen any connection to Halloween," she said. "And I want to be very clear, if we see it, I promise, you have my commitment, any credible evidence, we will come out, and we will tell you.

“What we do see is social media. We see fake pills like the blue oxy's that you just -- that you just showed. We see rainbow pills; a new tactic being used by the cartels.

"And here's what we worry about, we have middle schoolers and high schoolers who are dying of fentanyl poisoning. We have 12-year-olds, 13-year-olds, 14-year-olds who are dying. And so, we are not seeing it in elementary school, we have not seen with Halloween candy.

"But the bottom line is that this is all over social media. And so, we know it's out there. Parents, we are begging families and parents to talk with their loved ones and to talk with their children. Never take a pill that wasn't prescribed directly to you. Help your child come up with an exit strategy. What do you do if a coach or your best friend or another member of your family offers your kid a pill? What should they do?

"No legitimate pharmaceuticals can be sold on social media, so make sure your kids know that. And finally, just understand that many people who are dying of fentanyl poisoning had no idea that they were taking fentanyl. And the cartels don't care."

Milgram said the DEA is "going after" the two cartels that dominate the fentanyl supply chain, using chemicals from China to produce the deadly drug in Mexico. She said the DEA has created two "counter-threat teams," one for each of the Mexican cartels that are distributing fentanyl.

"And we're targeting the entire network," she said. "It's really important to say this -- we can't just take out the top of the network and the person on our streets. We have to do those things; we also need to essentially degrade the entire network."

‘We've got to get serious about this, folks.’

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) told a press briefing yesterday that she recently met with a group of law enforcement officials: "And they wanted to talk mostly about drug trafficking," she said.

"And so we started with the normal conversation centering around methamphetamine. That's still the number one drug of choice in Iowa. However, what was new to this recurring conversation is that we are seeing more fentanyl in Iowa, and this is a real issue. They are very worried about what this is doing to our communities.

“So I asked them, okay, where is it coming from? Yes, you know where I'm going with this. It's the wide open southern border. And they said, this administration's inability to stop the flow coming in from our southern border is poisoning our Iowa communities. It flows up Interstate 35. It hits other highways and byways all along the way, including I-80, and it runs all across the United States. So we have got to do something about this.

"I've got a couple of different common sense solutions that would help curb this. One is charging those distributors who knowingly deliver products tainted with fentanyl, charge them with felony murder.

“The second thing is, there's a lot of spotters along our border working for the drug cartels and it is imposing steeper fines on those that are spotters enabling the cartels, as well as a maximum prison time of up to ten years.

“We've got to get serious about this, folks. Our children are at risk, our populations are at risk, and we are knowingly allowing it to happen here in the United States by not closing up our border and enforcing stiffer penalties with the drug cartels and their enablers."

The DEA has released a "One Pill Can Kill" public awareness campaign to educate the public about the dangers of counterfeit pills.

‘Drugs Aren’t Going to Smuggle Themselves’: Billboard Thanks Democrat Mark Kelly for Open Border

A massive billboard ad in Phoenix is thanking Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) for keeping the southern border open to invasion from illegal migrants.

“Thank you, Mark Kelly, for voting to keep our borders open,” the billboard reads. “The drugs aren’t going to smuggle themselves.”

The ad says it was paid for by Citizens for Sanity. According to its website, the group’s mission is “to return common sense to America, to highlight the importance of logic and reason, and to defeat ‘wokeism’ and anti-critical thinking ideologies.”

Democrat Kelly and the Biden administration have allowed nearly 2 million illegal migrants into the nation in this fiscal year. August represents the fifth month in a row in which migrant apprehensions exceeded 180,000 migrants.

Illegal immigration increases rent costs, reduces American wages, burdens law enforcement, overwhelms the social welfare nets, undermines employees’ workplace rights, and extracts human resources from poor home countries.

Trump-endorsed candidate Blake Masters slammed Kelly for allowing such a massive amount of migrants into the United States. “Mark Kelly welcomes them and wants them resettled into our cities and towns by the millions,” Masters tweeted. “Zero independence, he’s just along for the ride. Mindlessly supporting Biden’s agenda as it ruins our state and our country.”

“Then again, Kamala says the border is secure and Biden says inflation is 0%. The Democrats lie about everything because the truth is so bad for them,” the Republican added.

Kelly has claimed he does not support Biden’s open borders. “I’m not for open borders. I think we need border security. We also have to treat people fairly,” he said.

Evidence suggests Kelly is for open borders. He has voted to defund border wall construction 3 times in 2021 alone, voted against Title 42 three times, and voted against hiring 18,000 Border Patrol agents before any new IRS agents are hired. Kelly has also backed Biden 94 percent of the time.

Texas Likely Voters Identify Texas-Mexico Border as Top Issue

Migrants, mostly from Nicaragua, cross the Rio Grande River into the U.S., in Eagle Pass, Texas, Friday, May 20, 2022. The Eagle Pass area has become an increasingly popular crossing corridor for migrants, especially those from outside Mexico and Central America, under Title 42 authority, which expels migrants without a …

Likely voters in Texas identify the Texas-Mexico border as their top issue, a Quinnipiac University poll released this week found.

The midterm election, which is less than six weeks away, comes as Americans reel from two years of Democrat leadership in Washington, DC. The border crisis has worsened, and this remains the top issue for likely voters in the Lone Star State.

The survey asked respondents, “In your opinion, what is the most urgent issue facing Texas today: COVID-19, inflation, climate change, the Texas-Mexico border, health care, election laws, racial inequality, schools, crime, abortion, taxes, or gun policy?”

The Texas-Mexico border tops the list of issues with 38 percent choosing it. No other issue comes close, as abortion is behind by double digits, with 17 percent choosing that issue.

Inflation comes in third place with 11 percent identifying it as the most urgent issue. No other issue garners double digit support.

A majority of Republicans, 66 percent, choose the Texas-Mexico border as the most urgent issue, and a plurality of independents, 37 percent, agree. However, abortion remains the top issue for Democrats, with 36 percent choosing that as the most urgent issue.

Further, the survey asked respondents, “Regardless of how you intend to vote, who do you think would do a better job handling the situation at the Mexican border: Greg Abbott or Beto O’Rourke?”

When asked that way, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) holds an 11-point lead, as 54 percent said he would do a better job compared to 43 percent who chose Democrat challenger Beto O’Rourke. Further, 51 percent overall approve of Abbott busing migrants to Democrat jurisdictions — a view held by 51 percent of independents as well.

Similarly, Abbott holds a 15-point lead on handling the economy, and he also maintains a lead on handling gun policy.

The survey was taken September 22-26, 2022, among 1,327 likely Texas voters. It has a +/- 2.7 margin of error.

Report: Soros-Linked Group Wins $41M Contract from Biden to Help Illegal Aliens Evade Deportation

A non-governmental organization (NGO), with financial links to billionaire George Soros, has won a $41 million federal contract from President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) to help illegal aliens evade deportation from the United States.

The Acacia Center for Justice, an NGO with financial ties to the Soros-linked Vera Institute of Justice, scored a contract from Biden’s DOJ to provide “legal services” to border crossers and illegal aliens after they are released into the U.S. interior in the hopes of staying permanently.

Fox News’s Joe Schoffstall reports:

The Biden administration awarded $41 million in taxpayer-backed government contracts to a new liberal nonprofit working to help illegal immigrants fight deportation amid the escalating border crisis, Fox News Digital has discovered. [Emphasis added]

The Acacia Center for Justice, a Washington, D.C.,-based nonprofit born from a partnership between the Vera Institute of Justice and Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR), has received six “legal services” contracts from the Department of Justice that carried start dates of Sept. 1, according to records. [Emphasis added]

The multimillion-dollar contracts began just months after the under-the-radar nonprofit received a July 29 determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service, which stated the group’s effective date of tax exemption was Dec. 29, 2021. [Emphasis added]

The Soros-linked Vera Institute of Justice, as Breitbart News previously reported, was recently awarded a $172 million contract from Biden’s DOJ to do the same work — help illegal aliens evade deportation from the U.S.

In 2018, the Vera Institute of Justice was previously awarded $310 million by the Obama administration to help Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) avoid deportation.

The latest estimates reveal that the Biden administration, from February 2021 to August 2022, has released at least 1.35 million border crossers and illegal aliens into American communities — a foreign population larger than the resident populations of Wyoming, Vermont, Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Delaware, Rhode Island, and Montana.

George Soros, the Obamas, Susan Rice, Valerie Jarrett, and many other wealthy, elite, no-borders, one-world Marxist climate zealots have an iron grip on the Democrat Party from bottom to top. Are the elites deliberately choosing weak people so as to control them from behind the curtain? We know they have done that with Biden, Kamala, and Fetterman. Is this their new modus operandi; choose the weak who will bow to the strong because the weak are more palatable to voters than the strong? M.B. MATHEWS
