Sen. Roger Marshall to CDC Director: ‘You’re Turning Your Back on the Fentanyl Crisis’
Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) called on CDC Director Rochelle Walensky to take action on the fentanyl crisis, saying that she is currently “turning her back” on the epidemic.
Sen. Marshall questioned CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, asking what actions are being taken to fight back against the fentanyl crisis.
During the questioning, Walensky stated that she’s had conversations with Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra about declaring the fentanyl crisis a public health emergency, though she didn’t say whether or not she has recommended such a declaration.
Senator Marshall asked “One or two people have died with monkeypox in the United States… but everyday hundreds of Americans die from fentanyl poisoning… Why have you not declared this a public health emergency?”
He went on to inquire, “Why have you not asked the Administration to shut down the border where 90% of this fentanyl comes from?” in reference to our Southern border. He also pointed out the shocking fact that “more Americans have died from fentanyl poisoning than we lost in Vietnam.”
Senator Marshall’s questions took place at a hearing titled, “Stopping the Spread of Monkeypox: Examining the Federal Response.”
A press release from Senator Marshall’s office noted that the Biden administration has taken swift and drastic action to fight monkeypox.
“The Biden Administration has National Monkeypox Response Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator, declared monkeypox a Public Health Emergency, and sent a $47 billion emergency funding request to Congress,” the release reads. It goes on to say that the emergency funding “includes $3.9 billion for monkeypox vaccines, therapeutics, testing, and operational support, as well as funds to help combat the spread globally.”
The press release contrasted the Biden administration’s response to Monkeypox with their response to fentanyl, which the release noted “is killing more than 100 people each day and is the leading cause of death for Americans 18-45.”
Nearly 14,000 pounds of fentanyl have been seized at the Southern border since Biden took office.
In a previous hearing, Marshall asked Walensky if she would consider using Title 42, a measure that can be used to restrict immigration in the event of a public health crisis, to stop the flow of fentanyl into America. Instead, Walensky pivoted and discussed the role of Title 42 as it pertains to Covid-19.
In addition, Marshall also announced his support for the HALT Fentanyl Act, which would permanently mark fentanyl-related substances as a class into Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, thereby empowering law enforcement in the fight against the deadly drug.
Senator Marshall has taken numerous steps to fight back against the fentanyl crisis.
Marshall announced his support of the Stop Fentanyl Border Crossing Act, which would expand Title 42 removal authority in an attempt to crack down on drug smuggling. Marshall has also released a public service announcement and a video warning that “one pill can kill.”
Marshall also joined seven other Senators in sending a letter to the CEO’s of Instagram, TikTok, Snap Inc, and YouTube inquiring as to the steps that the platforms are taking to ensure that illicit drugs are not sold on their sites.

How Biden Harms American Families
Biden’s rhetoric is driving families apart across our nation as his policies devastate families.
Part of Biden’s schtick as a politician is that he is a “concerned grandfather” for the nation. This is just a show. While our dear leader freely lets us know how deeply concerned he is about his own family, it is apparent that he doesn’t really care what his words and policies do to other families.
Have you ever heard Biden mention the fentanyl crisis that has devastated so many American families?
No. In fact, we have no idea whether Biden and his administration are even aware that over 100,000 Americans died of fentanyl poisoning last year. Biden and his representatives keep stating that the southern border of the USA is secure. The administration turns a blind eye to the truth that Biden’s wide-open southern border allows the cartels to ship millions across, who bring fentanyl with them.
This has devastated many families. The Washington Times reported on a Republican Study Committee conference that focused on this tragic problem. More than a dozen parents attended this conference, and many testified about losing their children.
The Times reported that one mom, Lori Ashenfelder of North Carolina, whose son died of fentanyl poisoning in 2021 said, “I don’t want to hear that anybody else I know and love has died over this. I don’t want any more moms to go to bed at night crying because they’ve lost their kid.”
Another crisis that is directly related to the rhetoric of Biden and other Democrats is families growing apart and an epidemic of adult children cancelling parents. These adult children just drop out of their families’ lives and keep grandchildren from grandparents.
As a wife and mother in one of these families, I have struggled to understand, but recently an epiphany came to me: Our own government under the Democrats turned our kids against my husband and me and caused them to cancel us, and they have done the same to many other Americans.
The process of families growing apart because of the rhetoric of leaders in government did not start in the last two years. Democrat politicians have been slandering their political opposition for over a decade, before they even thought of slandering President Trump. They and mainstream media have been characterizing American families as lame and stupid all that time with young people as their audience.
Biden has always been willing to partake in slandering Americans if they do not vote for him. In 2015, Michael Goodwin of the New York Post wrote about how VP Joe Biden called Tea Party patriots “terrorists.”
“This is not a typical Biden gaffe that can be laughed off. The vice president of the United States has outrageously compared American citizens to violent enemies of our nation for daring to exercise their democratic rights to dissent,” wrote Goodwin.
What were so many American children to think when the vice president called their parents “terrorists”?
Democrat politicians, including Biden, started calling Americans “racist” in 2009 and then ratcheted that up to “white supremacist” in 2020. Most people’s children once knew that their parents were not racist but got confused because no one else seemed to know that. As adults in the leftist world how could they keep being in relationship with such parents? If the parents were Christian or Jewish, that was even worse.
Remember Obama’s words: "They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." Young people were listening.
Then there was the initiative to get students to challenge their parents. In November 2013, Obama’s deputies at Organizing for Action (OFA) “gatecrashed” family Thanksgivings all across the USA to get young people to push ObamaCare. The OFA created an online script that included a short video. Harmless, right? Not exactly. The Daily Caller reported that in the video “...two drab parents urge their friendless young son to buy health-insurance, while they eat Obamacare-compliant small portions of drab food.” In other words, they stereotyped parents in a negative way in materials meant for their children. Not cool, but who took that seriously as a threat against the family? Not us. We were happy to talk about politics at Thanksgiving and, in the end, to agree to disagree about things.
However, the Daily Caller noted something we overlooked. “The progressives’ determination to gatecrash iconic family events reflects self-confidence in their own expertise, their long-held pity and contempt for ordinary Americans and for the institution of family, plus their ability to attract young people to their cause.”
Things went along this way as the Tea Party rose in opposition to the policies of the Obama administration and Democrat leaders slandered the Americans in that peaceful movement.
Like many Americans, we became involved with the Tea Party. We attended rallies and held signs, but we did not carry nor see any swastikas, and we were real grassroots, working people who had never been involved politically before.
We kept talking with our kids and we all were good with that until one last blow our family and many other families. The pandemic presented an opportunity for Biden and the Democrats to break American families.
Leftists became focused solely on the virus. Fighting it was everything. But this was a chance -- never let a good crisis go to waste -- to end agree-to-disagree as a way to get along in families.
Biden and the bureaucrats and technocrats pushed the idea that you must cancel those who disagree with Biden and the leftists’ agendas.
As a result, many parents have been canceled and they are unable to see their grandchildren.
How could children who loved their parents do something like this to them? Some believe a kind of group hypnosis called "mass formation psychosis," was created during the pandemic, according to psychology professor Mattias Desmet. He writes in his book The Psychology of Totalitarianism that the leaders of this totalitarianism are bureaucrats and technocrats and they experience formation “...including an exaggerated willingness of individuals to sacrifice their own personal interests out of solidarity with the collective (i.e., the masses), a profound intolerance of dissident voices, and pronounced susceptibility to pseudo-scientific indoctrination and propaganda.”
Biden, with his politician’s rhetoric and his lousy policies, has devastated families across the USA. As we approach the midterm election we must tell the truth about this. Then we must take power away from Biden, Democrats, and mainstream media by voting Republican.

Other policies include a shift away from prioritizing the deportation of illegal immigrants. The Free Beacon last year reported on deportations plummeting by 90 percent under the Biden administration, meaning fewer illegal immigrants are now removed from the country than at any point in decades.
Mayorkas Uses Drug-Free Zones as Template for Protecting Criminal Aliens

On October 4, I analyzed Biden administration directives gutting ICE immigration enforcement. Since then, the Biden administration announced it will halt ICE worksite enforcement efforts, furthering this effort. It was the latest diktat from DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, “Enforcement Actions in or Near Protected Areas”, that really gave up the game, however. The administration is attempting to create a de facto amnesty for the vast (vast) majority of criminal aliens in the United States, using state laws protecting children from drugs as a guide.
Jon Feere’s Take
My colleague Jon Feere dissected those most recent guidelines (which were issued on October 27) in a November 1 post captioned “Biden Admin Turns Countless Locations Across the Country Into Safe Spaces for Criminal Aliens: Playgrounds are now sanctuaries for illegal-alien sex offenders”. He explained:
What used to be safe spaces for vulnerable members of society have been transformed into safe spaces for violent offenders. This new policy prohibits even basic surveillance of a criminal alien suspect who happens to be in or near so-called “protected” areas. These locations are mini sanctuaries for criminal aliens who are now “protected” from federal law enforcement officers at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Why would Mayorkas propose creating “mini sanctuaries” for rapists and murderers? Feere posits that “shielding criminal aliens from the law is the top priority” for the Biden administration, and that these restrictions further that effort. If you review the October 27 guidelines, it is difficult to disagree with that assessment, and reference to state law proves it to be true.
Mayorkas’s Faux Maudlin Tone
Before I explain, however, let me first note that the secretary veers into the faux maudlin in that memo, stating:
It is because of the profound impact of our work that we must consider so many different factors before we decide to act. This can make our work very difficult. It is also one of the reasons why our work is noble.
One can almost picture Mayorkas stiffening his lip as he writes those words, drawing a carefully ironed, brilliantly bleached monogrammed handkerchief from the breast pocket of his expertly tailored bespoke suit to daub away a manly tear.
Of course, he does not consider ICE’s work to be “noble” in the least. That word is defined as “having, showing, or coming from personal qualities that people admire”. He hates the fact that ICE officers remove aliens, as that guidance reveals.
The Insidious Passage
Want proof? Three paragraphs after Mayorkas makes that factitious assertion, he states:
We can accomplish our enforcement mission without denying or limiting individuals’ access to needed medical care, children access to their schools, the displaced access to food and shelter, people of faith access to their places of worship, and more.
You need to read that passage carefully to understand how insidious (to say nothing of insipid) it is, and how much it reflects Mayorkas’s disdain for immigration enforcement.
First, the insidious part. In the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), Congress mandates that the immigration laws be enforced, period, regardless of whether an alien facing removal will have to seek medical care elsewhere, change schools, get a new job or house, or find a new place of worship.
In fact, once aliens are removed, they must do all those things. It is baked into the removal scheme.
Second, the disdain. As the Supreme Court has held, an “order of deportation is not a punishment for crime”, but rather “a method of enforcing the return to his own country of an alien who has not complied with the conditions upon the performance of which the Government ... has determined that his continuing to reside here shall depend.”
In this context, the purpose of removal is not to punish aliens by forcing them to seek medical care elsewhere, find new schools for their kids, get new houses and jobs, and find new places of worship, but rather those are the inevitable costs of being removed from the United States.
Mayorkas either ignores or is ignorant of that fact, but he implicitly castigates the ICE officers who enforce the INA, and thereby impose those consequences on removable aliens. Worse, however, he is attempting to create an enforcement scheme in which those consequences are avoided by inflating the “protected areas” that are off limits to ICE officers — which will lead to no enforcement at all.
ICE October 2011 “Sensitive Locations” Memo, and Mayorkas’s Expansion
ICE officers have been required to obtain pre-approval to enforce the INA at certain protected areas since October 2011, when then-ICE Director John Morton issued a memo to that effect. His list included schools, hospitals, places of worship, funerals, weddings, other religious ceremonies, and (oddly) public demonstrations.
Mayorkas expands these restrictions, as Feere explains, to add areas “near” playgrounds, bus stops, rec centers, domestic violence shelters, food banks, pantries, and various other locations.
The secretary admits that there is no definition of “near” in this context, but asserts: “A variety of factors can be informative, such as proximity to the protected area, visibility from the protected area, and people’s behavioral patterns in and around the protected area.” Respectfully, that explanation makes the word vaguer, not clearer.
The “Rosary” Exception that Makes the Universe a “Protected Area” from ICE Enforcement
Significantly, this list includes places “where a ... rosary ... occur[s]”. Not only is that bad grammar (Rosary is capitalized, and Rosaries are “prayed”, they don’t “occur”), but it shows an unconscionable ignorance of the practices of the nation’s 51 million Roman Catholics, coupled with an expansion of ICE “no-go” zones to the universe as a whole.
I am a Catholic and own several Rosaries, and they were regular fixtures at the prison where I served as an immigration judge. Some Catholics pray the Rosary (a series of prayers) daily, others only when deeply troubled, and many not at all.
The point is, however, that “a [R]osary” can “occur” anywhere. Given the fact that Mayorkas’s memo restricts ICE “surveillance” in areas, how would any officer know that a Rosary was being, or could be, prayed there? Does that sacred object now carry the same power to daunt ICE officers that garlic possesses to defend against vampires in ancient lore?
Perversion of State Laws Protecting Children from Drugs
The insidious nature of that guidance, however, only gets worse, because it perverts state laws that protect children from drugs into a federal policy that shelters criminal aliens.
That is because it closely tracks “drug-free zone” laws, which enhance the penalties for drug trafficking and/or possession, on the books in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. As the Sentencing Project (which opposes such laws) explains:
The premise behind drug-free zone laws was that drug trafficking near schools posed a danger to children. In order to protect children from drug activity, lawmakers established protected zones around the places where children were most likely to be present, including schools and public parks.
Like the Mayorkas restrictions, those drug-free zones include “schools, school buses ... public parks [and] churches” (Illinois); day care centers (Louisiana); and rec centers (Utah). No mention in any of hospitals, food banks, or domestic violence shelters (added by Morton and/or Mayorkas).
Many — progressives, moderates, and conservatives — have begun to rethink those zones, not least because they “are so extensive they aren’t effective in moving drugs away from children”.
One analysis done in Connecticut showed that 94 percent of residents in Hartford, 93 percent in New Haven, and 92 percent in Bridgeport live in areas with such sentencing enhancements (which include public housing, not on Mayorkas’s list).
Logically, Biden’s policy people are aware of those issues, which means Mayorkas’s list is deliberately expansive, all the better to (1) make it harder for ICE to arrest illegal aliens and, thus, (2) create sanctuary zones in major metropolitan areas. The “Rosary” exception makes the policy universal.
“Protected Areas” Guidance Only Protects Terrorists, Spies, and Serious Criminals
It only gets worse, however, because this “protected areas” guidance is to be applied in addition to, not in lieu of, Mayorkas’s earlier ICE enforcement restrictions.
As explained in that earlier post, Mayorkas restricted ICE’s “priorities” for immigration enforcement in a September 30 memo to three groups: Terrorists and spies; aliens who have engaged in “serious criminal conduct”, and recent illegal entrants.
ICE officers can act against other removable aliens, but must go through a review process so restrictive I described it as “as non-enforcement through micromanagement”.
Thus, the only aliens who are protected under this perverse game of “tag”, in which vast swaths of areas are “safe zones” where they cannot be touched (assuming they failed to bring a Rosary), are spies, terrorists, criminals, and those who entered illegally after October 31, 2021.
Given that there is no real way for ICE officers to know who entered illegally, as a practical matter the latest guidance exists only to protect hard-core criminals and national-security risks.
Conclusion: The Topsy-Turvy World of Biden Immigration Enforcement
Why? Because, as the Washington Post has explained: “ICE under President Biden is an agency on probation”, for no greater offenses than enforcing the INA and having the favor of Donald Trump.
That is how topsy-turvy immigration enforcement has become under the Biden administration: ICE officers charged with enforcing the law are treated as criminals on probation, and state laws protecting children from drug dealers are now being used as a template to protect real criminals (and spies and terrorists) from removal.

Federal and local law enforcement officials seized a record-setting load of cartel-connected methamphetamine in San Diego County, California. The drugs, loaded 20-foot box truck, weighed in excess of 5,000 pounds and are reported to be the largest seizure in San Diego County.
During the afternoon of July 7, federal officials observed a box truck enter the U.S. through the Otay Mesa Commercial Port of Entry, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California. Law enforcement agencies surveilled the truck to its destination in National City, California. The agents watched as the alleged drug smugglers unloaded the truck into a Dodge van.
At that point, law enforcement officers moved in and arrested Rafael Alzua, 37; Mario Contreras, 41; Ethgar Velazquez, 44; and Galdrino Contreras, 41, prosecutors stated. Officials listed all four suspects as residents of Tijuana, Mexico.
An inspection of the boxes revealed more than 5,000 pounds of drugs that later tested positive for methamphetamine.
“This is a significant accomplishment by our law enforcement partners,” U.S. Attorney Randy Grossman said in a written statement. “Due to stellar work by law enforcement agents, the government stopped more than 5,000 pounds of methamphetamine from being distributed on our streets.”
The case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Border Crime Suppression Team, Homeland Security Investigations, and the United States Border Patrol.
DEA Special Agent in Charge Shelly S. Howe stated, “This monumental seizure represents another win against drug cartels that fuel addiction in the United States. Because of our great partnerships with other law enforcement agencies, we will continue to disrupt the cartels’ flow of drugs into our cities.”
San Diego County Sheriff Anthony C. Ray added, “I am grateful for the hard work, vigilance, and steadfast dedication of our Sheriff’s Detectives, as well as our local, state, and federal partners. Our partnership and collaboration allow us to share information that is absolutely critical in keeping drugs from entering our streets and holding drug traffickers accountable.”
The four men from Mexico now face charges of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine. If convicted, each could face a prison term of ten years to life and a fine of up to $10 million.

The governor of a Mexican state plagued with cartel violence for years is the nephew of a cartel boss and a cousin to another. Both face drug charges in a U.S court. Breitbart Texas obtained birth certificates confirming the familial relationships between the governor and the crime bosses. The politician has denied such familial connections in the past.
This week, Adalberto Fructoso “Fruto” Comparan Rodriguez, the former mayor of Aguililla, Michoacan, and son Adalberto Fructoso Comparan Bedolla, along with four other cartel members, went before a federal judge in Florida this week. They were notified of the drug charges against them and were ordered to be held without bond.
Breitbart Texas obtained Mexican birth certificates showing the relationships between current Michoacan Governor Alfredo Ramirez Bedolla and the accused through marriage. La Silla Rota had published information about Ramirez’s relatives during his gubernatorial race in 2021, but only now do documents publicly confirm the connections.
The wife of Comparan Rodriguez is Anabel Bedolla Marin from Aguililla, Michoacan — a region under the control of Carteles Unidos.
Anabel Bedolla is the sister of Maria de Jesus Bedolla Marin, who is the mother of the politician.
Ramirez Bedolla, born in Morelia, Michoacan, had previously tried to minimize his relationship by claiming his aunt and uncle were separated for more than 10 years and had no contact with them.
Comparan Rodriguez is accused of being one of the leaders of Carteles Unidos in Michoacan and responsible for large-scale shipments of meth into the U.S. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Comparan Rodriguez would hide the drugs inside concrete tiles and dilute meth in paint. Authorities in Guatemala arrested Comparan Rodriguez in March 2021 and helped get him extradited to the U.S. in January 2022. Authorities arrested his son, Comparan Bedolla, in March 2021 in Miami while they reportedly tried to remove liquid meth from paint.
Michoacan is one of the most violent states in Mexico due to a violent turf war between Carteles Unidos (a collection of smaller organizations and “self-defense” groups) against Cartel Jalisco New Generation for control of vast drug production areas and smuggling corridors. Mexico’s federal government has been unable to reduce violence in the region.

Biden's Deathly Presidency
For four years under President Trump, America enjoyed peace, security, and unparalleled prosperity. Trump's presidency was a historic era of good times in which we began to regain faith in the American Dream. Now we have the nightmare, and the death and destruction that go with it.
Yes, the Trump Era was prosperous, with historically low unemployment rates, low inflation, energy independence, and rising wages. But aside from that, the most important thing about Trump's presidency was the fact that Americans were secure, as they had not been under Obama and certainly are not under Biden. Under Trump, America was in so many senses vibrant and "alive" with pride in our country and hope for its future.
Now we have regular mass shootings in which citizens disarmed by the State have no way to defend themselves. Overseas, we have a war in Ukraine, the threat of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, and Iran developing nuclear weapons with the encouragement of the Biden administration. The common thread is death and the fear that goes with it. And this does not even include Biden's aggressive defense of abortion on demand.
Under President Trump, I lived without fear. I knew that Trump supported my right to defend my home and that he supported the police who defended me as well. Just having the president and his administration on my side made me breathe easier. America was moving in the right direction, as was confirmed by every opinion poll during Trump's time in office before COVID was unleashed.
Long-term death rates are more a matter of demographics than policy, and they have been rising ever since Obama took office in 2008. But murder rates, deaths in war and civil unrest, drug overdose deaths, and accidental deaths are attributable to policy, and they have been rising under Biden, even during his short time in office. Under Biden, the U.S. murder rate, which had been declining under President Trump, is the highest in 25 years. According to former N.Y. police commissioner Howard Safir, the spike in violence is partly attributable to lack of support for police and soft-on-crime prosecutors. And it is Biden, with his anti-police rhetoric and refusal to prosecute (as in the case of those picketing Justice Kavanaugh's home), who is responsible for this climate of anarchy.
Now I plan my trips carefully, avoid eye contact with strangers, and carry only a driver's license and credit card. I drive inconspicuously as well, given the explosion of road rage incidents.
The most galling thing is that Biden never says a word about the victims of crime unless he can twist the incident into an anti-gun lecture, and he takes no action to protect anyone, especially law-abiding citizens in middle-class neighborhoods like my own. In this and so many other ways, he seems on the side of those who wish to destroy us. It's no accident that murder rates are spiraling at home and war is breaking out overseas. Both are a response to Biden's weakness, and death is the consequence.
I fear there will be more death ahead. I expect an invasion in Taiwan, Moldova, or Finland, and new outbreaks of violence in the Middle East involving either Iran or its surrogates. The incomprehensible Iran deal, which Biden is pushing, would "make Biden 'the biggest funder of terrorism in the world,'" according to Rep. Jim Banks. "Terrorism" is not just a derogatory word; it is the act of murdering innocent human beings, including women and children. Hasn't that fact entered into Biden's Iran deal calculations?
Biden's weakness has emboldened our enemies, and their actions pose a threat to our security. This is the way major wars begin. They can be prevented only by the projection of force of the kind we saw under President Trump, and Biden projects about as much force as a lady's fan. His weakness will get us into another war, and our young men and women will die in that war. There is death hanging over us, and Biden seems oblivious, fumbling with his note cards to find some kind of answer.
There is a new national mood in America unlike anything I've seen since the 1960s: a sense of foreboding and caution based on the very real threat of violence and collapse. There are more threats to our country, including the wealth destruction of inflation, to which Biden simply rolls his eyes, chuckles, and whispers some idiotic riposte. There are more criminal gangs, and Biden just welcomes more in. There is more road rage, more random shooting, more felons out on no bond/low bond. And there is a callous and brutal disregard for the lives of the unborn.
In response to the mounting violence, Biden seems remote, fuddling with his microphone like a man slipping into dementia, and those around him seem inept, if not callous, including his new press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, who is said to have "frequently stumbled" during her first weeks. A president who is weak and advisers who are incompetent and anti-American to boot — that is a recipe for disaster, and disaster will end, as it always does, in poverty, destruction, and death.
There are bullies in the world who watched as Biden stumbled out of Afghanistan, and bullies don't have much respect for doddering fools who just want to survive a four-year term and leave a mess for someone else to clean up.
As a citizen, it is difficult to watch my country besieged by violence. Biden's presidency has been deadly in every respect: turning off economic growth and imposing environmental restrictions, proposing inflation-adjusted cuts in national defense while paying off student loans, and putting citizens at risk with his anti-police rhetoric.
There is little chance of a second Biden term, but just another two and a half years is painful to imagine. How many thousands will lose their lives because of one incompetent and wrong-headed leader? How far will America go into danger and destruction? And how much more difficult will it be for our next president, Trump or a Trump lookalike, to repair the damage and Make America Safe Again?
