The Dysfunctional State of California

California is losing its sanity - not to mention many of its citizens.

When I moved to California in 1983, the state was terrific. The weather was fabulous, the coastline and mountains were spectacular, the people were friendly, and the government was normal.

That was then. Over the past forty years the first three have remained constant, but now many of the state’s politicos are bonkers.

Many Californians realize that the state’s leadership is a disaster and are leaving…en masse. A study released last week revealed that great numbers of people are U-Hauling it out of California and flocking to states with lower taxes, better schools, more traditional values, etc. In fact, California led the country in out-migration in 2022, with far more one-way U-Haul rentals leaving the state than coming in.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s latest statistics, the biggest gains from net domestic migration last year were in Florida (318,855), Texas (230,961) and North Carolina (99,796), while the biggest losses were in California (-343,230), New York (-299,557) and Illinois (141,656).

As R Street Institute western region director Steve Greenhut reports, “…the true indicator of success or failure involves people voting with their feet—or their U-Hauls. Californians aren’t fleeing our weather or economy, but our bad public policy.”

Indeed, bad public policy abounds in California. For one, Gov. Gavin Newsom has assembled a task force to study and develop reparation proposals for African Americans. Specifically, he would like to provide $223,000 in reparations directly to the descendants of slaves living in the state. The tax ramifications of this unbelievably asinine idea are appalling. I’d love to ask the governor why my tax dollars should be spent this way, since only one relative of mine was in the country during the time of slavery and he fought for the Union in the Civil War. I’d also like to ask him what he plans to do about mixed-race individuals and couples. As Larry Elder notes, “Colin Kaepernick was born to 19-year-old Heidi Russo, who is white. His birth father is of Ghanaian, Nigerian/Ivorian ancestry. Colin was adopted by a white couple. Does he get a check or does he cut one?”

Another way the state is fleecing taxpayers is a new law that forces them to pay up to $400 million of union dues. As National Right to Work Foundation President Mark Mix avers, “The idea that they’re going to give union members a tax credit, which is really just a dollar for dollar reduction in the taxes they owe… is really just another example of how Gavin Newsom and the regressives in the California General Assembly in Sacramento are trying to trying to use governmental tax policy to get more workers into unions, which means more union dues for political expenditures.”

SB 1375, another terrible idea, is now law. This horror allows nurses to perform abortions; no doctors need to be present.

AB 2098 now requires medical licensing boards in California to take disciplinary action against doctors who are involved with the dissemination of misinformation or disinformation related to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus or COVID-19.

Newsom also signed a law that decriminalizes jaywalking because of “racism.” The “Freedom to Walk Act,” will prevent law enforcement from stopping people who are crossing the street not at a crosswalk unless they are in visible danger. The law’s proponents insist that jaywalking is a racist crime because it is allegedly enforced unfairly in “communities of color” where people allegedly cannot afford to pay the fines.

Another law puts the state in control of fast-food restaurants. The socialist inspired AB 257 creates a ten-member “Fast Food Council,” which would serve for ten years. The commissars are tasked with setting wages and working conditions for the fast-food industry. But after a group of restaurants balked and collected petition signatures against this outrageous law, it has mercifully been put on hold.

And of course, California also is a leader in perverse LGBTQ schemes. In fact, the state is now an official refuge for “trans kids.” SB 107, which became law January 1, erodes parents’ rights by allowing minor children to travel to California for trans procedures. Citing the Protect Child Health Coalition, Katy Grimes explains, “Even more shocking is the law actually authorizes parental kidnapping (when a non-custodial parent illegally takes a child from the parent who has legal custody) if the purpose of the kidnapping is to subject the child to radical gender transition procedures.”

At the same time, Rick Chavez Zbur, who from 2014 to 2021 led a group called Equality California, is now in the California State Assembly. Zbur wants to mandate “LGBTQ+ cultural competency” training for teachers, which Equality California lobbied to have included in the 2021 state budget. Course materials instruct teachers to hang pride flags in their classrooms and hide students’ “gender identities” from parents. The legislature has also said the training should instruct teachers on how to connect students with doctors who can “support” their transition.

Also, in late 2021, AB 1184, a bill cosponsored by Planned Parenthood, became law. This atrocity “prohibits insurance companies from revealing to the policyholder the ‘sensitive services’ of anyone on their policy, including minor children (starting at age 12), even though the policy owner is financially responsible for the services.” The term “sensitive services” refers to all health care services related to mental or behavioral health, sexual and reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, substance use disorder, gender affirming care, etc. The bill doesn’t detail the kindly sounding “gender affirming care,” but as defined by the University of California, San Francisco, it’s hormone therapy and a laundry list of surgeries including vaginectomy, scrotoplasty, voice modification, etc.

If you are a parent, in addition to all the sexualization and other types of indoctrination that children get in government-run schools, you must deal with the all-too-often inferior education they receive, not to mention the lies the establishment renders about it. To wit, during the 2021-2022 school year, data showed that the state’s four-year high school graduation rate climbed to 87%, up from 83.6% in 2020–2021. However, in the same stretch, the state’s chronic absenteeism rate skyrocketed. (California defines chronic absenteeism as students missing 10% of the days they were enrolled for any reason.) The no-show rate leapt from 14.3% in 2020–2021 to 30% in 2021–2022.

Smell a big fat rat?

EdSource’s John Fensterwald explains, “The high school graduation rate in 2021-22 reached a record high statewide and rose significantly for most student groups, although the progress warrants an asterisk. Recognizing the hardships many students experienced during Covid and the challenges of teachers in grading fairly during remote learning, the Legislature passed Assembly Bill 104. It allowed parents to request that F’s and D’s for high school students be changed to pass or no-pass. It also gave last year’s juniors and seniors the option to graduate with the state’s minimum requirements, made up of 13 courses totaling about 130 credits.”

The situation in Los Angeles is even more egregious. About 46 percent of the city’s students were chronically absent last year—more than double compared to the previous year, according to district numbers. Nevertheless, their grades are rising.

Their standardized test scores tell a different story, however. The Los Angeles Times examined district-wide spring 2022 grades and the state’s 2022 standardized test scores and found:

  • In math, 73% of 11th-graders earned A’s, Bs, and Cs, while test scores showed only 19% met grade-level standards.
  • For 8th-graders, 79% earned A’s, Bs and Cs in math. Test scores showed 23% met grade-level standards.
  • In English, 85% of 6th-graders earned A’s, Bs and Cs, while 40% met grade-level standards.
  • For 7th-graders, 82% earned A’s, Bs and Cs in English, but test scores showed just 43% met grade-level standards.

The colleges are ridiculous. Stanford, for example, has issued an Elimination of Harmful Language Initiative. This is a “multi-phase, multi-year project to address harmful language in IT at Stanford.” There is even a “Content Warning” at the beginning of the document which alerts us that the website “contains language that is offensive.”

Offensive?

“America” is out. “U.S. citizen” is preferred, as South Americans are Americans too, doncha know!

Walk-in hours? Not acceptable! Now it’s “drop-in” Don’t want to make the disabled feel bad!

The folks at The Babylon Bee are probably cringing as they have no way to satirize this; it is already laugh-out-loud funny. At least it would be if it weren’t so tragic.

The above is just a small sampling of what has turned the Golden State in to a dysfunctional mess. So what’s good about living in CA? The weather is still better than in most other states, the natural beauty is intact and the people – those who still reside here – tend to be friendly. Full stop.

Under Governor Newsom’s watch, the number of criminals set free in California to commit more crimes has multiplied. Store owners and California residents walking home at night do not feel safe as the number of smash-and-grab-style burglaries and follow-home robberies has multiplied.

“The Democrats had abandoned their working-class base to chase what they pretended was a racial group when what they were actually chasing was the momentum of unlimited migration”.            DANIEL GREENFIELD

WE NOTE THAT IN CA, ILLEGALS MAY BECOME 'OFFICERS OF THE COURT' LAWYERS!

The immigration debate has been raging for years.  Advocates for open borders can be found on both sides of the political aisle and in a wide variety of special interest groups who have come to see the immigration system that delivers an unlimited supply of cheap and exploitable labor, an unlimited supply of foreign tourists, and unlimited supply of foreign students and, for the lawyers, an unlimited supply of clients. MICHAEL CUTLER

CA HAS THE LARGEST NUMBER OF ILLEGALS AND THE LARGEST NUMBER OF HOMELESS. Not hard to do the math on that!

Under Governor Newsom’s watch, the number of homeless people living freely on the streets, leaving sidewalks full of their drug paraphernalia and garbage, has multiplied.

"The newly elected president, Andrés López-Obrador, was gleeful during the election when he told his compadres they should all move to America, illegally.  His encouragement along with his pro-poverty policies will set the stage for another tsunami of illegal immigration." COLIN FLAHERTY

Governor Newsom Brags About a ‘Free’ California

While the facts say otherwise.

Governor Gavin Newsom used his inauguration to a second term to boast that “California has been freedom’s force multiplier.”

Governor Newsom is right in a sense, but certainly not in the way he intended.

Under Governor Newsom’s watch, the number of criminals set free in California to commit more crimes has multiplied. Store owners and California residents walking home at night do not feel safe as the number of smash-and-grab-style burglaries and follow-home robberies has multiplied.

Under Governor Newsom’s watch, the number of homeless people living freely on the streets, leaving sidewalks full of their drug paraphernalia and garbage, has multiplied.

Under Governor Newsom’s watch, the number of illegal immigrants residing in California who are getting freebies courtesy of Newsom’s “sanctuary state” has multiplied. California’s taxpayers have contributed $75 million for cash payments to illegal immigrants during the COVID pandemic. California taxpayers are also paying the tab for health benefits granted to illegal immigrants within certain age brackets and Governor Newsom has proposed adding over 700,000 more illegal immigrants to the gravy train starting next year. The total estimated cost will be $2.3 billion, with $1.8 billion coming from the General Fund, at full implementation.

No wonder under Governor Newsom’s watch, the number of California residents and businesses exercising their freedom to move to other states with less taxes, less onerous regulations, and less crime has multiplied.

When it comes to protecting Californians’ freedoms of speech, worship, assembly, and the right to keep and bear arms, Governor Newsom’s California has been freedom’s infringement multiplier.

Freedom of Speech – Governor Newsom signed a law recently empowering the Medical Board of California to discipline physicians who “disseminate” information regarding Covid-19 that departs from the so-called “contemporary scientific consensus,” which is undefined and ever changing. This law is a clear violation of the First Amendment’s right to free speech. As The New Civil Liberties Alliance, which has brought a lawsuit on behalf of several physicians challenging the constitutionality of the new law, stated: “The law not only interferes with the ability of doctors and their patients to freely communicate, but it has already been used as a weapon to intimidate and punish doctors who dissent from mainstream views… In safeguarding Americans’ rights to free speech and expression, the First Amendment applies not only to the expression of majority opinions, but to minority views as well.”

Freedom of Religion and Assembly – Governor Newsom’s executive order placed a ban on people assembling for prayer in places of worship during the height of the COVID pandemic in 2020. Meanwhile the governor not only permitted, but endorsed, mass public protests in California during 2020 in the wake of George Floyd’s killing. Governor Newsom thereby discriminated in favor of allowing huge numbers of demonstrators to gather together while stomping on other peoples’ constitutional right to assemble (in far fewer numbers) for the purpose of freely exercising their religious beliefs. Governor Newsom’s order also treated other group secular activities more favorably than religious group worship.

Right to Keep and Bear Arms – Governor Newsom is a fierce opponent of the Second Amendment’s right to keep and bear arms. He denounced the United States Supreme Court for striking down a New York law that had severely limited people from carrying guns outside the home – a law similar to one in California.

federal district court judge’s 2019 decision struck down a California law prohibiting the acquisition and possession of firearm magazines able to hold any more than 10 rounds. He wrote that the prohibition “directly infringes Second Amendment rights,” noting that the firearm magazines “are commonly used by responsible, law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes such as self-defense.”

The same judge who rendered this decision, District Court Judge Roger T. Benitez, subsequently struck down California’s assault weapons ban on Second Amendment grounds.

Governor Newsom unleashed his fury at the federal judge, smearing him as a “wholly-owned subsidiary of the gun lobby and the National Rifle Association.”

California Rifle and Pistol Association President C.D. Michel responded with an observation that applies to all of Governor Newsom’s attacks on the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution. “Newsom can stomp his feet all he wants, but the Constitution will win the day,” Mr. Michel wrote.

Governor Newsom demonstrated his “rules for thee, but not for me” attitude about restrictions on freedoms during the pandemic when he and other bigwigs dined without a mask or social distancing at a fancy French restaurant. At the same time, ordinary Californians were expected to abide by rules stipulating the use of both precautions to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

In another example of his double standard, Governor Newsom sent his children back to private school for in-person learning while many public schools across California remained closed because of COVID-19.

“Bound by our live-and-let-live embrace of personal freedom,” Governor Newsom said in his inaugural address. Criminals back on the streets, homeless people living in the streets, and illegal immigrants enjoying freebies courtesy of the California “sanctuary state” would no doubt agree. However, more than 100,000 law-abiding California residents voted with their feet during 2022 to escape from California to true freedom-loving states like Florida and Texas.

Mexican President Celebrates ’40 Million’ Mexicans in the U.S.

Mexico’s President Andrés Lopez Obrador says 40 million Mexicans are living in the United States.

“Just imagine: There are 40 million Mexicans in the United States — 40 million [including people] who were born here in Mexico, [or] who are the children of people who were born in Mexico,” President Andrés Lopez Obrador gushed at a January 10 press conference with President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Obrador’s proud Mexican-first advocacy for ethnic Mexicans — including ethnic Mexicans in the United States — is very different from the globalist, investor-first policies pushed by Trudeau and Biden.

At the Tuesday summit, Biden pushed the globalist, pro-migration “Nation of Immigrants” narrative as he described all Americans — including the descendants of Americans — as mere immigrants.

“Look, all of you know all of us in the United States are immigrants,” Biden said. “Mine go all the way back to the Irish famine,” Biden told the press conference.

Biden’s use of “immigrant” demotes the status of American citizens to that of illegal migrants, because the same “immigrant” term is normally used by establishment outlets to promote illegal migrants.

Biden also called for the use of global labor to fill jobs in the U.S. economy, regardless of many sidelined Americans, and regardless of the economic impact on ordinary Americans’ wages and rents:

We cannot wall ourself off from shared problems. We are stronger and better when we work together … At the top of our shared agenda today is keeping North America the most competitive, prosperous, and resilient economic region of the world …  [and creating] pathways for immigrants from Nicaragua, Cuba, and Haiti that were seeking a better life here in the United States of America.

Biden recently announced a plan to allow 360,000 people from four countries to move to the United States each year. That huge population transfer from Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Venezuela is in addition to the global inflow of illegal migrants, and Congress’s normal inflow of roughly one million legal immigrants.

In contrast, the Mexican president repeatedly boasted about how his government policies are making life better for Mexicans, and are reducing the incentives for Mexicans to migrate to the United States:

The [goverenment] budget is used for development and supporting the poorest sectors of our population, today we not only have jobs, employment, we have seen reductions in violence. We have less migration as well. And we’ve also tempered frustration. And what we can see is this flame — this flame which is alive. I’m talking about the flame of hope.

Obrador’s pro-Mexican policies include his demand that Congress give the huge prize of amnesty to Mexico’s illegal migrants in the United States:

I fully trust President Biden … I’ve asked President Biden to insist before the U.S. Congress to regularize the migration situations of millions of Mexicans who have been in the States working, living in the United States, and contributing to the development of that great nation, which is the United States of America.

As an ethnic Mexican nationalist, Obrador opposes Mexican emigration — but he also supports more ethnic Latino migration into the United States:

We do celebrate the fact that the U.S. administration has … made the decision, rather, to have an orderly migration flow in the case, for instance, of our Venezuelan brothers and sisters … Just as I was telling you that in the case of migration, first there were brothers and sisters from Central America and also from Mexico, but now, in recent times, a lot of migrants from Venezuela, from Nicaragua, Colombia, Ecuador.

Obrador also applauded Trudeau’s decision to import 25,000 Mexican temporary workers for Canadian jobs, such as helping to house and feed Trudeau’s huge wave of global migrants who have been invited into Canada. “This program is already benefiting 25,000 men and women — 25,000 Mexicans,” said Obrador.

“Prime Minister Trudeau is a great ally of Mexico,” he added.

Obrador downplayed the benefits gained by Mexico when U.S. investors moved many manufacturing jobs to Mexico, as he claimed that his pro-Mexican policies are reducing Mexican emigration:

There are less migrants abandoning Mexico now because there’s public investment; because out of 35 million families, 30 million families of Mexican families are now receiving at least a program — a wellbeing program …All the senior citizens, 65 or over, receive a pension … Eleven million students of low-income families, of poor families are getting grants [and] cholarships …. We are planting over 1 million hectares of fruit and timber trees. And we are giving jobs to over 400,000 peasants that are growing, planting those trees … So, then, all these programs help so that people may be staying in their own communities, in their towns.

The U.S. government has long operated a globalist economic policy of “Extraction Migration.” The policy extracts vast amounts of human resources from needy countries, disguised under the Cold War-era “Nation of Immigrants” narrative and deliberately ineffective border security.

The extracted workers, renters, and consumers are used to grow Wall Street and to expand the low-wage service sector in the economy.

This colonization-like policy has killed many thousands of unrecognized migrants, including many on the taxpayer-funded trail through the Darien Gap in Panama.

The migrant inflow has successfully forced down Americans’ wages and boosted rents and housing prices. The inflow has also pushed many native-born Americans out of careers in a wide variety of business sectors, and reduced native-born Americans’ clout in local and national elections, and contributed to the rising death rate of poor Americans.

Mexican President AMLO Praises Biden for Halting Border Wall: ‘Thank You’

Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) thanked President Joe Biden for halting the construction of border wall along the United States-Mexico border at a North American summit on Tuesday.

Alongside Biden and Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, AMLO praised Biden’s immediate halt to border wall construction along the southern border. The day after taking office, Biden signed an executive order that stopped all wall construction that had been underway by former President Trump.

“You, President Biden, you are the first president of the United States in a very long time that has not built, not even one meter, of wall,” AMLO said during remarks at the summit. “In that, we thank you for that sir. Although some might not like it, although the conservatives don’t like it.”

Indeed, as Breitbart News has chronicled, the Biden administration has chosen to leave wide holes in the border wall, rendering the barrier useless in many circumstances for Border Patrol agents trying to reduce illegal immigration from Mexico.

Instead, the Biden administration has spent previously-allocated border wall funds on “environmental remediation” projects, even as some 2.6 million border crossers and illegal aliens are projected to be apprehended this year.

While rejecting the benefits of a border wall to stop illegal immigration into the U.S., Biden is spending nearly half a million dollars in taxpayer money to build a security fence around his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

In Mexico, Joe Biden Promotes Plan to Make it ‘Easier’ for Migrants Trying to Enter the United States as Part of ‘Greatest Migration in Human History’

President Joe Biden promoted his plan Tuesday to make it easier for migrants to come to the United States after meeting with the leaders of Mexico and Canada.

“This has been the greatest migration in human history around the world as well as in this hemisphere,” Biden said, speaking about the ongoing migration crisis after meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during a summit in Mexico City.
But the president did not appear troubled by the volume of border crossings and migrants flooding into local communities in the United States, placing a burden on U.S. citizens and legal residents.

He spoke about his administration’s plan for new ways to allow migrants claiming asylum to sign up, get background checks, get a sponsor, and get them examined, allowing them to go directly to a port of entry to make their case.

“We’re trying to make it easier for people to get here, opening up the capacity to get here,” Biden said.

He said that the majority of migrants were fleeing the countries of Venezuela, Cuba, Haiti, and Nicaragua and that his administration would reach out to them directly to get them to sign up for admission to the United States.

He suggested his new plan would cut down the number of immigrants crossing at the Southern border using cartels and coyotes and getting victimized to make the “god-awful” trip to the United States.

“Look, right now the cartels make a lot of money, which they use for drug trafficking as well,” he said.

He complained that Republicans and even some Democrats were reluctant to work with him on immigration reform, despite a long tradition of immigration to the United States.

“All of you know, all of us in the United States are immigrants,” he said, speaking of his own Irish ancestors who came to the U.S. during the potato famine in Ireland.

Mexico’s President Says Biden Responsible for Migrant Surge at Border

ILDEFONSO ORTIZ and BRANDON DARBY

Expectations created by President Joe Biden about better treatment for migrants led to the current border surge, said Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO).

During his daily news conference, AMLO spoke about the ongoing border crisis and said the increase in migrants entering Mexico and heading to the U.S. is partly due to the expectations created by President Biden.

AMLO: “Expectations were created that with the Government of President Biden there would be a better treatment of migrants. And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so” pic.twitter.com/TNrZQamuWK

“Expectations were created that with the Government of President Biden there would be a better treatment of migrants. And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so,” AMLO said.

The statements come one day after Mexico’s military confirmed the deployment of 8,700 soldiers to curb the growing number of migrants traveling through the country.

Mexico’s president says he will share with President Joe Biden his willingness to find a way to legalize the flow of migrants from Central America and Mexico as a way to meet American labor needs.

“I have a teleconference with Biden on Monday and we are going to talk about that topic,” President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) said this weekend during one of his news conferences. “Let’s fix the migratory flow, legalizing it, to give guarantees to the workers so they don’t risk their lives, and that their human rights are protected.”

During the conference, AMLO said the U.S. would need about 600,000 to 800,000 laborers per year for economic growth. The Mexican politician brought up the Bracero program when the U.S. provided migrant farmworkers with permits during World War II.

The topic of the migrant workflow had not been previously discussed publicly by the Foreign Relations Ministry or the Interior Secretariat ahead of the virtual meeting between Lopez Obrador and Biden.

The issue comes as Mexican authorities see a dramatic rise in human smuggling activities as thousands of Central American migrants continue to make their way north. Mexican officials predicted a dramatic rise in migratory flows at the start of 2021 due to work shortages from the pandemic and recent natural disasters that shook Central America. Officials in Mexico did not publicly discuss the political effect that a Biden Administration would have on the matter.

Mexican authorities have found several large groups of migrants at hotels or being moved in tractor-trailers in recent weeks. Officials are also seeing a spike in ransom kidnappings where cartel-connected human smugglers hold migrants to further extort their families.

As Breitbart News has reported, U.S. households headed by foreign-born residents use nearly twice the welfare of households headed by native-born Americans.

Simultaneously, illegal immigration next year is on track to soar to the highest level in a decade, with a potential 600,000 border crossers expected.

“More than 750 million people want to migrate to another country permanently, according to Gallup research published Monday, as 150 world leaders sign up to the controversial UN global compact which critics say makes migration a human right.”  VIRGINIA HALE

For example, a DACA amnesty would cost American taxpayers about $26 billion, more than the border wall, and that does not include the money taxpayers would have to fork up to subsidize the legal immigrant relatives of DACA illegal aliens.

Exclusive–Steve Camarota: Every Illegal Alien Costs Americans $70K Over Their Lifetime

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/04/11/exclusive-steve-camarota-every-illegal-alien-costs-americans-70k-over-their-lifetime/

JOHN BINDER

Every illegal alien, over the course of their lifetime, costs American taxpayers about $70,000, Center for Immigration Studies Director of Research Steve Camarota says.

During an interview with SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Daily, Camarota said his research has revealed the enormous financial burden that illegal immigration has on America’s working and middle class taxpayers in terms of public services, depressed wages, and welfare.

“In a person’s lifetime, I’ve estimated that an illegal border crosser might cost taxpayers … maybe over $70,000 a year as a net cost,” Camarota said. “And that excludes the cost of their U.S.-born children, which gets pretty big when you add that in.”

LISTEN:

“Once [an illegal alien] has a child, they can receive cash welfare on behalf of their U.S.-born children,” Camarota explained. “Once they have a child, they can live in public housing. Once they have a child, they can receive food stamps on behalf of that child. That’s how that works.”

Camarota said the education levels of illegal aliens, border crossers, and legal immigrants are largely to blame for the high level of welfare usage by the f0reign-born population in the U.S., noting that new arrivals tend to compete for jobs against America’s poor and working class communities.

In past waves of mass immigration, Camarota said, the U.S. did not have an expansive welfare system. Today’s ever-growing welfare system, coupled with mass illegal and legal immigration levels, is “extremely problematic,” according to Camarota, for American taxpayers.

The RAISE Act — reintroduced in the Senate by Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR), David Perdue (R-GA), and Josh Hawley (R-MO) — would cut legal immigration levels in half and convert the immigration system to favor well-educated foreign nationals, thus relieving American workers and taxpayers of the nearly five-decade-long wave of booming immigration. Currently, mass legal immigration redistributes the wealth of working and middle class Americans to the country’s top earners.

“Virtually none of that existed in 1900 during the last great wave of immigration, when we also took in a number of poor people. We didn’t have a well-developed welfare state,” Camarota continued:

We’re not going to stop [the welfare state] tomorrow. So in that context, bringing in less educated people who are poor is extremely problematic for public coffers, for taxpayers in a way that it wasn’t in 1900 because the roads weren’t even paved between the cities in 1900. It’s just a totally different world. And that’s the point of the RAISE Act is to sort of bring in line immigration policy with the reality say of a large government … and a welfare state. [Emphasis added]

The immigrants are not all coming to get welfare and they don’t immediately sign up, but over time, an enormous fraction sign their children up. It’s likely the case that of the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants, more than half are signed up for Medicaid — which is our most expensive program. [Emphasis added]

As Breitbart News has reported, U.S. households headed by foreign-born residents use nearly twice the welfare of households headed by native-born Americans.

Every year the U.S. admits more than 1.5 million foreign nationals, with the vast majority deriving from chain migration. In 2017, the foreign-born population reached a record high of 44.5 million. By 2023, the Center for Immigration Studies estimates that the legal and illegal immigrant population of the U.S. will make up nearly 15 percent of the entire U.S. population.

Another line they cut into: Illegals get free public housing as impoverished Americans wait

Want some perspective on why so many blue sanctuary cities have so many homeless encampments hovering around?

Try the reality that illegal immigrants are routinely given free public housing by the U.S., based on the fact that they are uneducated, unskilled, and largely unemployable. Those are the criteria, and now importing poverty has never been easier. Shockingly, this comes as millions of poor Americans are out in the cold awaiting that housing that the original law was intended to help.

Thus, the tent cities, and by coincidence, the worst of these emerging shantytowns are in blue sanctuary cities loaded with illegal immigrants - Orange County, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, New York...Is there a connection? At a minimum, it's worth looking at.

The Trump administration's Department of Housing and Urban Development is finally trying to put a stop to it as 1.5 million illegals prepare to enter the U.S. this year, and one can only wonder why they didn't do it yesterday.

According to a report in the Washington Times:

The plan would scrap Clinton-era regulations that allowed illegal immigrants to sign up for assistance without having to disclose their status.

Under the new Trump rules, not only would the leaseholder using public housing have to be an eligible U.S. person, but the government would verify all applicants through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database, a federal system that’s used to weed illegal immigrants out of other welfare programs.

Those already getting HUD assistance would have to go through a new verification, though it would be over a period of time and wouldn’t all come at once.

“We’ve got our own people to house and need to take care of our citizens,” an administration official told The Washington Times. “Because of past loopholes in HUD guidance, illegal aliens were able to live in free public housing desperately needed by so many of our own citizens. As illegal aliens attempt to swarm our borders, we’re sending the message that you can’t live off of American welfare on the taxpayers’ dime.”

The Times notes that the rules are confusingly contradictary, and some illegal immigrant families are getting full rides based on just one member being born in the U.S. The pregnant caravaner who calculatingly slipped across the U.S. in San Diego late last year, only to have her baby the next day, now, along with her entire family, gets that free ride on government housing. Plus lots of cheesy news coverage about how heartwarming it all is. That's a lot cheaper than any housing she's going to find back in Tegucigalpa.

Migrants would be almost fools not to take the offering.

The problem of course is that Americans who paid into these programs, and the subset who find themselves in dire circumstances, are in fact being shut out.

The fill-the-pews Catholic archbishops may love to tout the virtues of illegal immigrants and wave signs about getting 'justice" for them, but the hard fact here is that these foreign nationals are stealing from others as they take this housing benefit under legal technicalities. That's not a good thing under anyone's theological law. But hypocrisy is comfortable ground for the entire open borders lobby as they shamelessly celebrate lawbreaking at the border, leaving the impoverished of the U.S. out cold.

The Trump administration is trying to have this outrage fixed by summer. But don't imagine it won't be without the open-borders lawsuits, the media sob stories, the leftist judges, and the scolding clerics.

Los Angeles County Pays Over a Billion in Welfare to Illegal Aliens Over Two Years

BY MASOOMA HAQ

In 2015 and 2016, Los Angeles County paid nearly $1.3 billion in welfare funds to illegal aliens and their families. That figure amounts to 25 percent of the total spent on the county’s entire needy population, according to Fox News.

The state of California is home to more illegal aliens than any other state in the country. Approximately one in five illegal aliens lives in California, Pew reported.

Approximately a quarter of California’s 4 million illegal immigrants reside in Los Angeles County. The county allows illegal immigrant parents with children born in the United States to seek welfare and food stamp benefits.

The welfare benefits data acquired by Fox News comes from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services and shows welfare and food stamp costs for the county’s entire population were $3.1 billion in 2015, $2.9 billion in 2016.

The data also shows that during the first five months of 2017, more than 60,000 families received a total of $181 million.

Over 58,000 families received a total of $602 million in benefits in 2015 and more than 64,000 families received a total of $675 million in 2016.

Robert Rector, a Heritage Foundation senior fellow who studies poverty and illegal immigration, told Fox the costs represent “the tip of the iceberg.”

“They get $3 in benefits for every $1 they spend,” Rector said. It can cost the government a total of $24,000 per year per family to pay for things like education, police, fire, medical, and subsidized housing.

In February of 2019, the Los Angeles city council signed a resolution making it a sanctuary city. The resolution did not provide any new legal protections to their immigrants, but instead solidified existing policies.

In October 2017, former California governor Jerry Brown signed SB 54 into law. This bill made California, in Brown’s own words, a “sanctuary state.” The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against the State of California over the law. A federal judge dismissed that suit in July. SB 54 took effect on Jan. 1, 2018.

According to Center for Immigration Studies, “The new law does many things: It forbids all localities from cooperating with ICE detainer notices, it bars any law enforcement officer from participating in the popular 287(g) program, and it prevents state and local police from inquiring about individuals’ immigration status.”

Some counties in California have protested its implementation and joined the Trump administration’s lawsuit against the state.

California’s campaign to provide public services to illegal immigrants did not end with the exit of Jerry Brown. His successor, Gavin Newsom, is just as focused as Brown in funding programs for illegal residents at the expense of California taxpayers.

California’s budget earmarks millions of dollars annually to the One California program, which provides free legal assistance to all aliens, including those facing deportation, and makes California’s public universities easier for illegal-alien students to attend.

According to the Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on United States Taxpayers 2017 report, for the estimated 12.5 million illegal immigrants living in the country, the resulting cost is a $116 billion burden on the national economy and taxpayers each year, after deducting the $19 billion in taxes paid by some of those illegal immigrants.

BLOG: MOST FIGURES PUT THE NUMBER OF ILLEGALS IN THE U.S. AT ABOUT 40 MILLION. WHEN THESE PEOPLE ARE HANDED AMNESTY, THEY ARE LEGALLY ENTITLED TO BRING UP THE REST OF THEIR FAMILY EFFECTIVELY LEAVING MEXICO DESERTED.

New data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that more than 22 million non-citizens now live in the United States.
