California governor Gavin Newsom (D.) called on the Department of Justice to investigate Florida for transporting illegal migrants to Democratic states.

"It is unconscionable to use people as political props by persuading them to travel to another state based on false or deceptive representations," the letter from Newsom, California attorney general Rob Bonta, and Texas county sheriff Javier Salazar said. The trio call on the Biden administration's DOJ to probe "potential violations of federal law" by Florida governor Ron DeSantis's (R.) administration.

DeSantis has sent migrants to Democratic states and cities that claim to be "sanctuaries" several times. He famously sent migrants to Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, the majority of whom were then quickly removed from the majority-liberal island.

Florida in June oversaw the flight of migrants to Sacramento, after which Newsom threatened kidnapping charges for DeSantis.

"@RonDeSantis you small, pathetic man," Newsom tweeted. "This isn't Martha's Vineyard. Kidnapping charges?"

Newsom pointed to a California law that spells out the potential charge. "Every person, who being out of this state, abducts or takes by force or fraud any person contrary to the law of the place where that act is committed, and brings, sends, or conveys that person within the limits of this state ... is guilty of kidnapping," the law reads.

Newsom in the letter accused Florida of misleading migrants about the opportunities they'd have at their destinations. Newsom, however, has advertised many times that his state welcomes migrants. "Let me be clear, @realDonaldTrump: California is a sanctuary state," he tweeted in 2018. "We believe in the power of diversity. We have defied and resisted the xenophobic, hateful policies of your administration at every turn. We will do it again."

DeSantis in June said Newsom's sanctuary policies are responsible for the United States' border crisis.

"These sanctuary jurisdictions are part of the reason we have this problem, because they have endorsed and agitated for these types of open-border policies," DeSantis said at the time. "They have bragged that they are sanctuary jurisdictions."

Florida CEOs Raise Wages, Urge Tech Innovation After DeSantis Immigration Reform

Florida employers are raising wages and urging greater investment in wage-boosting technological innovation after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a state-wide set of immigration reforms.

“Some of them have raised wages” amid a worker shortage, said Jeannie Economos,  a manager at the Farmworker Association of Florida, which opposes the law.

The farm companies are also “saying ‘More money for research into mechanization, we need more mechanization, we can’t afford the cost of labor,'” she told Breitbart News on June 6.

Desantis’s immigration reforms — especially his law requiring employers to use the E-Verify system — are also pushing up wages in the construction sector, USA Today reported on June 21:

The owner of a Naples construction company, Valdez, who is also from Mexico, stayed home in solidarity with his Hispanic workers who boycotted Florida’s new immigration law.

Since DeSantis signed the immigration bill, Valdez has lost 15 of his best [illegal migrant] workers, who have moved to other states like Illinois and North Carolina.

He used to pay painters $18-$20 an hour. Now, he’s paying $30-$35, which ended up increasing the costs for his work. “I have to adapt,” he said.

For decades, Florida’s bipartisan establishment has imported millions of low-wage, hard-working, and uncomplaining migrants to subsidize its farm employers, landlords, and retail investors.

“Norma arrived from Guatemala just five months ago with her daughter… like many workers from Guatemala and Mexico,” Union-Bulletin.com reported on June 22. “When Norma arrived in Homestead she noticed a sign on the side of the road offering work, and even without papers, she got the job at the warehouse working for $10 an hour.”

The massive resident population of perhaps 800,000 illegal migrants has chopped wages and boosted housing costs for millions of ordinary Americans, even as the state’s employers, investors, and landlords grew wealthy.

But that elite consensus has been cracked by DeSantis’s pro-American migration laws, including his law that requires employers with more than 25 employees to confirm the legal status of job applicants via the federal government’s E-Verify system. The new laws are pressuring many illegal migrants to quit the state, so opening up many economic opportunities for Americans.

“Irma Bautista is a construction business employer who has noticed her work staff numbers dwindling,” reported Winknews.com, a news site in Florida. “We had 45 workers. From 45, now we have 20,” Bautista said.

Union-Bulletin.com reported:

One undocumented worker, Carina, who did not want to reveal her last name out of fear she could be deported, said she is worried about her children. In the next few weeks she plans to return to her home country of Guatemala after 20 years, together with her three children, ages 19, 13 and 9. She said she had been thinking about returning for some time now, but that the new law was the push she needed to decide to return home.

Meanwhile, business groups and their pro-migration progressive allies are looking for loopholes and are preparing lawsuits as they try to keep the state’s huge population of illegal workers.

The farm companies are also demanding wage cuts in the federal government’s H-2A program, Economos said. The program imports agricultural workers for seasonal jobs. However, GOP Senators have quietly blocked a Democratic-pushed plan to slash wages paid to H-2A foreign workers.

Many farm companies prefer to rely on cheap, disposable labor instead of American-made, crop-picking machines.

Their cheap-labor priorities are often touted by many establishment media outlets.

  • “New immigration law sparks fear and worker exodus from Florida,” said the June 21 headline in USA Today.

“Florida’s new immigration law previews a DeSantis presidency: The law that takes effect this weekend has already sparked fear — and could carry human and financial costs,” said Vox.com.

The farmworkers’ group is also on the same side as business, said Economos. “It is seldom that labor and business are on the same page — but on this one, I think, we have some common ground,” she told Breitbart News.

“Obviously, we were really surprised that the [GOP] legislature passed this [E-Verify law] because they’re so devoted to business that we didn’t think that they would pass something that would harm business,” she added.

Economos’ group — and other pro-migration groups — are working with companies and some Republicans to persuade workers to stay in Florida, partly by organizing illegal migrants to conduct loud protests against the wage-boosting reforms.

DeSantis’s immigration reform is spotlighting GOP divides between pocketbook-minded swing voters and the business-funded donors who prefer to win elections with “culture war” issues. For example, Jeff Roe, a top campaign adviser to DeSantis, told the establishment-backed Axios.com on June 5:

“The fight for the soul of the party isn’t about tax cuts or trade deals,” Jeff Roe, a top adviser to Never Back Down, the super PAC supporting DeSantis, told Axios. “It is this cultural combat that we have as a country.”

“These people know that DeSantis is a culture warrior for this time,” he said. “These voters are more angry than they were in 2016.”

DeSantis’s spokesman emphasizes DeSantis’s support for legal migration. amid widespread efforts by establishment outlets to describe illegal migrants as “immigrants.”

“The media has been deliberately inaccurate about this distinction between legal and illegal immigration to create this very sort of outrage based on a false premise,” said Jeremy Redfern, DeSantis’s press secretary. “Any business that exploits this [border] crisis by employing illegal aliens instead of Floridians will be held accountable,” he added.

“You can’t address the immigration issue only as a culture war issue — the economic aspects are integral,” responded Mark Krikorian, the director of the Center for Immigration Studies. He added:

Clearly, he’s committed to E-Verify, having made two significant pushes for it in the state legislature and gotten a pretty good bill, which went into effect July 1. But his campaign literature so far addresses E-Verify but in a more vague way, and this is pure speculation, — but I wonder whether the political-operative types are a little more skittish about it than the governor himself is.

DeSantis has repeatedly mixed national economics and voters’ pocketbook concerns into his immigration platform, for example, by threatening tariffs on Mexico if they don’t help manage the border.

The United States has to get Mexico’s attention for it to cooperate on issues, like migration, like fentanyl, and one of the most powerful ways to do that is by playing the tariff card. So you can’t separate what are sometimes segregated as “culture” issues from economic issues? They’re all just different facets of the same problem.

Meanwhile, back in Florida, even reporters have to admit that some Americans welcome the migrant exit. “Mario Martinez, born and raised in Immokalee, agrees people who aren’t legally permitted to be here shouldn’t be here,” Winknews.com reported.

Take This Job and Shove It: Quits Top Four Million Even as Openings Dip

The number of people quitting their jobs topped four million for the first time in five months, data from the Labor Department showed Thursday.

A high number of quits is typically a sign that workers feel confident that jobs are plentiful. In a separate report on Thursday, payroll processor ADP said the private sector added 497,000 workers to payrolls in June, more than twice what economists had forecast.

Job openings dipped to 9.8 million in May from a revised April figure of 10.3 million. Openings hit an all-time high of 12 million last year and have bounced around since then. Despite the decline, openings remain very high by historical standards. Prior to the pandemic, openings had never hit eight million.

In May, the largest declines in job openings were in health care and social assistance, where openings declined by 285,000, and finance and insurance, which saw openings fall by 139,000. Job openings rose in education and government.

Openings fell slightly in construction, declining to 254,000 from 277,000. Openings were up in manufacturing, retail, and hospitality and leisure.

Business Lobby Ask Biden for More Foreign Workers Rather than Enticing Americans Back into Workforce

While Americans have struggled to remain in the workforce, the powerful business lobby is urging President Joe Biden to increase the share of foreign visa workers whom they can hire to what would be the highest level on record.

Nearly 130 special interest business groups — including many Chamber of Commerce chapters, construction companies, farms, landscaping businesses, restaurants, and retail stores — wrote to Biden asking him to expand the inflow of foreign visa workers to fill millions of American jobs.

“We respectfully request that you expand a special category of immigration permits for individuals who can fill positions where labor shortages exist, for people migrating to the United States, and long-term immigrant contributors like DREAMers, farm workers, and essential workers,” the business groups write.

Already, the U.S. imports more than a million legal immigrants on green cards annually in addition to more than a million foreign visa workers who arrive specifically to take American jobs. Likewise, under Biden, tens of thousands are securing work permits after crossing the southern border.

In particular, the business groups pointed to a plan touted by Republican Govs. Eric Holcomb of Indiana and Spencer Cox of Utah that gives states the ability to import foreign visa workers whenever business interests in such states decided that there are labor shortages that cannot be filled with Americans.

“One plan advanced by Republican governors, Eric Holcomb of Indiana and Spencer Cox of Utah, would allow states to ‘sponsor’ immigrant workers,” the business groups wrote:

With that authority, states could decide how many visas are needed each year for specific jobs. U.S Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) support the idea, as does New York Governor Kathy Hochul. [Emphasis added]

With congressional action on permanent immigration reform gridlocked, we look to your administration to expand the use of visas under current regulations and give states the authority to act on their workforce needs, so that migrants are treated humanely and businesses can rev up the engines that drive state and national economies. [Emphasis added]

The latest push by special interest business groups to open a constant flow of foreign visa workers to hire comes as Biden has ballooned the nation’s labor market through mass immigration while remaining largely unconcerned with the issue of Americans dropping out of the workforce.

For instance, last year, foreign-born workers saw their share of the U.S. labor market hit the highest level in almost 30 years at more than 18 percent, with close to 30 million now holding American jobs.

At the same time, the number of native-born Americans in the workforce has declined by 0.5 percent. Likewise, unemployment for foreign-born workers was lower last year, at 3.4 percent, than the unemployment rate for native-born Americans, at 3.7 percent.

The boon of foreign visa workers in the U.S. labor market, the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) recently detailed, means lower wages for working class native-born Americans in addition to more foreign workforce competition.

“Between the fourth quarters of 2016 and 2019, real (inflation-adjusted) weekly earnings for full-time, U.S.-born workers without a bachelor’s grew 3.2 percent,” CIS researchers write. “During this time, growth in the total immigrant population (legal and illegal) averaged about 400,000 a year, compared to about 730,000 a year from 2012 to 2016, when earnings actually fell slightly for the less-educated U.S.-born.”

Americans, by a majority, say businesses should work harder to recruit those on the labor market sidelines rather than the federal government importing foreign workers for them.

In the most recent Rasmussen Reports survey, nearly 6-in-10 Americans said it is “better for businesses to raise the pay and try harder to recruit non-working Americans even if it causes prices to rise” when faced with labor shortages. A minority of only 26 percent said it is better for the government to provide such businesses with foreign workers to hire.

Flood at the Border Sinks Biden

200,000 people from all over the world crossed illegally last month.

President Biden avoids and keeps far away from our nation’s wide-open southern border, where 200,000 people from all over the world crossed illegally last month and every month since Biden took office almost 30 months ago. But his chief Democrat rival, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., went to the border town of Yuma, Arizona on June 6, and had some choice words for Biden’s failed policy.

“It was like a dystopian nightmare,” Kennedy said, “with all of these desperate people flooding across the wall, in a situation that clearly could have been prevented. People from all over the world, from Africa, from Uzbekistan, from Senegal, from Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Nepal, Tibet, India, Bangladesh, Peru, Colombia, we saw all of these people, these hundreds and hundreds of people coming across.

“We’ve watched about 150 people come across in the last hour,” Kennedy continued. “Altogether, people have come across right here from 117 nations in the last couple of years. In 3 years, in total, 7 million people have come across the border illegally into our country.

“And from here, they’re put on these buses, and they’re brought to the border patrol station where they’re processed. After four or five days, they’re released on their own recognizance into our country, and most of them are never seen or heard from again.”

Where did all these millions of foreigners go after they were turned loose by the Biden administration? A clue is provided by a shocking new study from the Center for Immigration Studies, which finds that students from immigrant-led households comprise 23% of public school enrollment nationwide, and in many regions the proportion is more than 65%.

Thousands of miles away, New Hampshire public schools are harmed by the immigration deluge. Next door in Massachusetts, the percentage of public students who are in immigrant households has jumped 13 to 28% in the last 30 years.

There should not be any illegal fentanyl in New Hampshire, but gangs profiting from drugs and human smuggling distribute that deadly drug to every state. Choking off that deadly traffic is preeminent on the minds of New Hampshire voters who will soon screen the presidential candidates of both parties.

“This is not a good thing for our country,” Bobby Kennedy Jr. said after his first-hand, on-site inspection of the crisis at the border. “It is unsustainable.”

Liberals have been perplexed by how endless lawsuits and contrived indictments of Donald Trump have not slowed him down, or even made a dent in his popularity. The many reasons for Trump’s political invincibility include his unwavering commitment to America being for Americans, not foreigners.

Speaking in Columbus, Georgia, on June 10, Trump vowed that “I will immediately cancel every open-borders policy of the Biden Administration. I will use all necessary state, local, federal, and military resources to carry out the largest domestic deportation operation in American history.”

“And to further deter illegal immigration,” Trump continued, “I will sign a Day One Executive Order ending automatic citizenship for children of illegal aliens.” Contrary to some uninformed pundits, the foolish policy of extending birthright citizenship to illegal aliens is not required by any law or court decision.

On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court dropped the ball by declaring that they would not force President Biden to stop the illegal immigration that is overwhelming our states, institutions, and communities. With only Justice Alito dissenting, the Court ruled that the courts are powerless to order President Biden and his minions to obey the laws that require him to refuse entry, detain, and deport illegal migrants.

But then on Sunday, the people of Greece delivered the opposite verdict as they handed a landslide victory to the Trump-like candidate who has cracked down against illegal immigration there. His victory was by the largest margin in Greece in a half-century, and three new political parties even more conservative did well enough to win seats in its parliament.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis won by promising to extend a border fence to a region where many migrants are currently sneaking into Greece. A week earlier, voters in the traditionally liberal Finland elected what was described as “the most right-wing government ever … taking a hard line on … immigration.”

The previously immigrant-welcoming countries of Denmark and Sweden have also shifted sharply to the right on this issue in recent years. Denmark’s current policies include imprisonment of illegal aliens with solitary confinement and seizure of assets, in order to deter migrants from entering that small country illegally.

The worldwide populist uprising against open borders is a harbinger of our own presidential election next year. On this issue, Biden is hopelessly out of touch with the American people, and he is sure to be defeated by Trump, unless the effective campaigning by RFKJr causes Biden to withdraw first.
