Newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Thursday defended his Christian faith, telling people to “pick up a Bible” to understand his personal worldview.

The Speaker talked with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday and discussed his personal worldview after leftists became outraged over his personal view on marriage being between a man and a woman. CNN even attempted to make a villain of Johnson, asserting that he has a “history of harsh anti-gay language from his time as an attorney for a socially conservative legal group in the mid-2000s.”

“I am a rule-of-law guy,” Johnson told Hannity on Thursday. “I made a career defending the rule of law. I respect the rule of law. When the Supreme Court issued the Obergefell opinion, that became the law of the land.”

Notably, Obergefell essentially legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.

“But I also genuinely love all people, regardless of their lifestyle choices,” Johnson continued. “This is not about the people themselves. I am a Bible-believing Christian.”

He then clarified his personal position on matters by telling people to look at the Bible:

Someone asked me today in the media, they said, “It’s curious, people are curious. What does Mike Johnson think about any issue under the sun?” I said, “Well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it — that’s my worldview.” That’s what I believe, and so I make no apologies for it.

Johnson emphasized that this is his “personal worldview.”

Johnson was sure to acknowledge God following his recent speakership victory, telling the chamber that Divine Providence played a role in his next step.

“I want to tell all my colleagues here what I told the Republicans in that room last night; I don’t believe there are any coincidences in a matter like this,” he told the chamber.

“I believe that Scripture, the Bible, is very clear that God is the one that raises up those in authority. He raised up each of you, all of us, and I believe that God has ordained and allowed each one of us to be brought here for this specific moment in this time,” he continued.

“This is my belief. I believe that each one of us has a huge responsibility today to use the gifts that God has given us to serve the extraordinary people of this great country,” Johnson continued.

Johnson became Speaker on Wednesday after unanimous consent from the GOP side — something that has not happened since 2011.

Katyal: Likely Trump Will Be Jailed for Violating Gag Order

Former Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal said Sunday on MSNBC’s “Inside” that it was likely former President Donald Trump would be jailed for violating a gag order.

Katyal said, “There are two different gag orders. One, Trump has already violated, the one in New York state, in which he has been now find twice. And then there’s a swarm that you’re talking about the federal level with Jack Smith. And that one has been put on pause.”

He continued, “I think Donald Trump has made the best case of anyone. He is witnessing for why you need the gag order in effect. Because the moment that gag order was put on pause, he started developing and attacking people left and right.”

Katyal added, “So I think that there is no doubt in my mind that there will be a gag order imposed on Donald Trump. And there also is no doubt in my mind that he is going to violate it repeatedly. Repeatedly to the point where a judge is going to have to confront the ultimate question, are we going to put the former president in jail? and i think there is only one answer to that.”

Anchor Jen Psaki said, “What is your answer?”

Katyal said, “Which is you have to. If he continues this behavior, no other litigant in this country would ever be able to do what he is doing. Judges, I don’t care what your politics are, the one thing you understand when you put out that robe is that it is about the legitimacy of the court and about the judicial process.”

Barr: Trump’s ‘Verbal Skills Are Limited’ Not Much Past ‘Very, Very, Very’

Former Attorney General Bill Barr said Thursday on C-SPAN’s coverage of an event at Harvard’s Institute of Politics that former President Donald Trump’s “verbal skills are limited.”

When asked what Trump’s flaws are, Barr said, “I think his biggest flaw is a lot of it is performance rather than substance.”

He continued, “He is more interested in performing and getting a reaction than he is of solving a particular problem.”

He added, “Untimely we need some degree of unity. We are all in the same boat. We have to figure out a way to muddle through Someone who is constantly rolling around in the mud and fighting at the drop of a hat and is strickly in that mode, I’m worried about them getting us through.”

Referring to Trump saying Hezbollah is “very smart,” CBS chief correspondent Jan Crawford said, “I thought his comments on Hezbollah, that was appalling. I mean, do you think he’s, is he losing it?”

Barr said, “His verbal skills are limited. And so he, you know, if you get him away from ‘very, very, very,’ the adjectives sort of– they’re unfamiliar to him and they sort of spill out and he goes too far. You know, he’s not very disciplined when it comes to what he says.”
