Biden Admin Offering Million-Dollar Grant to Report on Alleged Israeli Human Rights Violations

The U.S. is offering nearly a million dollar grant for projects that include reporting alleged human rights violations by Israel, prompting critics to lambast the Biden administration as “hostile” to its key ally.

The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) at the State Department announced “an open competition for projects that strengthen accountability and human rights in Israel and the West Bank and Gaza” last month. According to the Jerusalem Post, which first reported on the matter, it is the first competition of its kind from Washington and one that raises concern over the potential for abuse by entities who seek to boycott and sanction Israel.

The aim is to “collect, archive and maintain human rights documentation to support justice and accountability and civil society-led advocacy efforts, which may include documentation of legal or security sector violations and housing, land and property rights.”

International human rights lawyer Arsen Ostrovsky called the move “outrageous” and a “gross interference in Israel’s domestic affairs.”

It will “only empower those seeking to delegitimize Israel under guise of ‘human rights,’” Ostrovsky tweeted.

Prof. Gerald Steinberg, director of human rights watchdog NGO Monitor, a group that tracks anti-Israel non-profits, wrote a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken  saying that the initiative will open the gates for anti-Israel groups to legitimize the “apartheid” charge against Israel.

“In light of the Biden Administration’s repeated rejection of such campaigns, we call on the State Department to reconsider this program,” Steinberg wrote. “If however the NOFO [notice of funding opportunity] proceeds, the application of clear and rigorous safeguards will be necessary to ensure that taxpayer funds are not provided to organizations advancing a discriminatory, anti-Israel agenda under the façade of accountability and human rights.”

He went on to say that the U.S. is in danger of allowing such projects to follow in the footsteps of European governments, which justify funding organizations that have advocated for boycotts of Israel and for Israeli officials to be tried for war crimes under the guise of human rights.

“It’s hard to see any other explanation for this type of grant,” he said.

Such human rights organizations targeting Israel are “an industry on the order of at least $50 million to Israel and Palestinian groups from European governments, plus there is UN support. It’s even more if you include Human Rights Watch and Amnesty” – both of which have accused Israel of being an apartheid state – “and this funding could, in theory, go to them,” Steinberg said, according to the report.

According to the DRL’s contest rules, applications cannot “reflect any type of support for any member, affiliate or representative of a designated terrorist organization” or benefit foreign militaries or paramilitary groups.

The submitted projects can also “take meaningful action in pursuing truth, accountability and memorialization; and/or provide psychosocial support to survivors of atrocities.”

Why is Biden protecting illegal alien drunk drivers?

By William Davis

The Biden administration has done a lot of damage to immigration enforcement in the U.S., but perhaps its most dangerous move has been its consistent refusal to deport criminal illegal aliens who commit crimes right here in the U.S.

The latest example of the Biden administration’s malfeasance came late last month when the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) canceled a deportation request for an illegal alien who allegedly killed a teenager in a hit-and-run incident. Heriberto Fuerte-Padilla, an illegal alien from Mexico, was arrested in November 2020 after he allegedly drunkenly rammed his car into the car of 19-year-old Texas woman Adrienne Sophia Exum, killing her. Fuerte-Padilla then allegedly fled the scene before police officers caught up and apprehended him. After initially putting out a detainer for Fuerte-Padilla’s deportation, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) rescinded the detainer after Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas dramatically reduced the pool of illegal aliens eligible for deportations.

“To be arrested or deported, a migrant now must be a national security risk, a recent border jumper or a public safety risk,” a report from the Washington Times stated.

While most law-abiding Americans would likely consider drunk driving a “public safety risk,” Mayorkas has made clear that he sees things differently. Shortly after taking office last year, Mayorkas announced that many criminal illegal aliens living in the country no longer had to worry about being deported. The guidelines adopted by DHS under Mayorkas’ leadership give free passes to illegal aliens who commit crimes such as drunk driving and assault. Other illegal aliens living in Texas with drunk driving offenses are also getting a pass, according to the Washington Times’s report.

Another illegal alien who is benefiting from the Biden administration’s relaxed rules is Jose Godoy Vasquez, an illegal alien from Guatemala who now lives in Texas. Vasquez has a lengthy criminal record, which includes convictions for drunk driving, drug possession, and domestic violence. Like Fuerte-Padilla, Vasquez initially had an ICE detainer on him, which was rescinded as a result of the policies implemented by Mayorkas after he took office. This means Vasquez will be able to continue to live in Texas once he’s released from prison in 2025, unless a new administration is elected and rescinds the White House’s current policies. The Washington Times’s report also noted Nay Thar, an illegal alien from Thailand who was previously convicted of drug possession and drunk driving. Thar was released from prison earlier this year, and will be allowed to continue to live in Texas because of the Biden administration’s guidelines.

Biden is doubling down on his radical anti-borders agenda even as polls make clear that the American people oppose these policies. Even some Americans who cast their ballots for Biden in the last presidential election now regret their votes, including Adrienne Sophia Exum’s mother, who recently expressed outrage over the administration’s refusal to deport her daughter’s alleged killer.

"By him not being deported, it’s like you telling me my daughter’s life didn’t mean anything,” she said in a recent Fox News interview.

It may sound harsh, but it’s certainly a reasonable conclusion to come to given the Biden administration’s stubborn refusal to hold criminal illegal aliens accountable. At the very least, it’s fair to say there is a startling lack of empathy from America’s leaders towards victims of illegal alien crime. We see this lack of empathy demonstrated not just in this administration’s refusal to deport illegal aliens convicted of drunk driving offenses, but in instances involving other crimes as well.

A recent investigation from the Immigration Reform Law Institute uncovered the story of Antonio Miranda-Cota, an illegal alien in Nevada who is currently serving a five year prison sentence for repeatedly bludgeoning his construction co-worker in the head with a claw-hammer, an act that nearly killed his victim. Miranda-Cota had previously been referred for deportation after two previous assaults, but was allowed to stay in the country, and was ultimately given a work visa by the Obama administration. Miranda-Cota’s victim survived the attack, but has lost his ability to work, and was not allowed to read a victim impact statement at Miranda-Cota’s sentencing.

These crimes evoke such outrage because of how preventable they are. The refusal of our political elites to enforce the law has led to a body count that continues to grow. The Biden administration’s radical moves to protect criminal illegal aliens will only create more victims and more suffering.

Trump-Appointed Judge Blocks Biden’s ‘Sanctuary Country’ Orders Protecting Illegal Aliens from Deportation

A district judge, appointed by former President Donald Trump, has blocked President Joe Biden’s so-called “sanctuary country” orders that have successfully protected millions of illegal aliens from arrest and deportation over the last year.

On Tuesday, District Judge Michael J. Newman issued a preliminary injunction against Biden’s orders that prevent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from arresting and deporting most of the nation’s 11 to 22 million illegal aliens across the United States.

The orders were imposed in September 2021 after the Biden administration was successfully sued by Texas and Louisiana for implementing similar orders at the start of last year. The latest orders dictate that only illegal aliens deemed a “public safety threat” or a “national security threat” can be arrested and deported by ICE agents.

Newman sided with Arizona, Montana, and Ohio — the states that brought the lawsuit — in the case, ruling that the orders require the states to bear the brunt of financial costs to taxpayers associated with protecting illegal aliens.

Newman writes:

But the States have plausibly shown these costs have accrued, and will continue to do so, even if the priority shift generates some offsetting benefit. This financial impact is a “tangible” one. [Emphasis added]

In the District of Arizona litigation over the Interim Guidance, for example, Arizona identified noncitizens with criminal convictions who were placed on state supervision after DHS lifted their detainers under the Interim Guidance. A decrease in detention and removal of criminal aliens will invariably lead to similar results in Montana and Ohio. [Emphasis added]

An aggregate decline in removals will also cause the States to devote more emergency Medicaid and educational resources to noncitizens than they otherwise would have. [Emphasis added]

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich celebrated the preliminary injunction.

“This is a tremendous victory for the rule of law and the safety of our communities,” Brnovich said in a statement. “Since assuming office, the Biden administration has undermined our immigration laws and our law enforcement agencies, while empowering dangerous cartels and criminals on both sides of the border. I’m grateful for this ruling and for the partnership of Ohio and Montana as we work to reverse this catastrophic lawlessness.”

Dale Wilcox, director of the Immigration Reform Law Institute, applauded the ruling, saying that “there is a good reason the law says that aliens who turn out to be criminals should be removed.”

As Breitbart News reported, Biden’s orders helped gut interior immigration enforcement in Fiscal Year 2022, the latest ICE data reveals. Compared to 2019, arrests of illegal aliens have plummeted by nearly 50 percent, and deportations have dropped by nearly 80 percent.

Unreleased ICE data shows that the Biden administration arrested 48 percent fewer convicted criminal illegal aliens, conducted 63 percent fewer deportations for convicted criminal illegal aliens, and issued 46 percent fewer requests for ICE agents to take custody of criminal illegal aliens in the Fiscal Year 2021.

The case is Arizona v. Biden3:21-cv-314 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
