A legal group founded by a Biden administration official is pledging to defend Hamas sympathizers in New York City, where demonstrators on Sunday expressed support for the slaughtering of innocent Israelis.
Ramzi Kassem, a member of the president’s Domestic Policy Council, in 2009 founded CLEAR, a City University of New York project that offers free legal support to New York City Muslims. CLEAR said on Sunday it would ensure pro-Hamas demonstrators are "protected" as they "continue on until Palestine is liberated."
The guarantee of legal protection is likely to embolden those demonstrators, who flocked to Times Square on Sunday brandishing flags and signs with the slogan, "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," which calls for the Jewish state's eradication. The protesters were expressing solidarity with the Iran-backed terrorist group's slaughtering of Israelis. One demonstrator argued that the killings were conducted in "self defense," while another displayed a swastika on his phone. Police arrested three people for disorderly conduct, though it is not clear if Kassem's group is defending them.
CLEAR's vow to protect terrorist sympathizers reflects the Biden administration's embrace of anti-Israel activists. Biden tapped Kassem, a City University of New York professor, to serve as a policy adviser on immigration last year. Before that, Kassem defended al-Qaeda terrorists held at Guantanamo Bay and has expressed his contempt for the Jewish state, arguing in a series of 1998 articles that Israel engages in "systematic genocide" and "ethnic cleansing" and that a Jewish majority in Israel is neither "viable" nor "desirable."
Neither the White House nor CLEAR returned requests for comment. An online bio for Kassem identifies the professor as a senior policy adviser for immigration at the White House Domestic Policy Council.
Sunday's Times Square demonstration, which took place one day after Hamas terrorists launched an unprecedented attack against Israel that left hundreds dead and hundreds more kidnapped and taken hostage, was hosted by the Democratic Socialists of America.
The party's New York City chapter on Saturday announced the "All Out for Palestine" demonstration, calling on its supporters to take to the streets "in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to resist 75 years of occupation and apartheid."
While some New York Democrats condemned the rally—Governor Kathy Hochul labeled it "abhorrent and morally repugnant," and New York City mayor Eric Adams called it "disgusting that this group of extremists would show support for terrorism"—others have direct ties to its organizers. Left-wing Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman, for example, are members of the Democratic Socialists of America's New York City chapter. Bowman has not commented on the rally. After more than a day of silence, meanwhile, Ocasio-Cortez told Politico that the "bigotry and callousness expressed in Times Square on Sunday were unacceptable and harmful" in comments published Tuesday morning.
The Workers World Party, another socialist organization, also held an "Emergency Rally For Gaza" outside of the Israeli consulate—which the party called the "Zionist embassy"—on Monday afternoon. In a social media post announcing the event, the party declared its support for Hamas terrorism against Israel.
"We remain in unshakable solidarity with Palestinians who are resisting colonial occupation, and we defend their right to liberate themselves by any means necessary," the group said. On Saturday, meanwhile, Workers World Party published a statement from terrorist organization Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, which urged "our heroic people across Palestine to actively participate in" the ongoing terrorism against Israelis.
Kassem is no stranger to representing controversial clients. The Biden adviser represented Ahmed al-Darbi, an Islamic terrorist who helped plan a 2002 attack on a French-flagged oil tanker and whose brother-in-law participated in the September 11, 2001, terror attacks. Kassem himself has downplayed the 9/11 attacks, writing in a 2001 article that the attackers were not inherently evil.
"The perpetrators were probably not driven to their actions by some intrinsic evil or inherent hatred of the good United States," Kassem wrote. "The resentment these terrorists felt towards the United States was rooted in political realities shaped by our country's policies."
Washington, D.C. (October 11, 2023) - The Center for Immigration Studies released an analysis of a House Judiciary Committee report titled “The Biden Border Crisis: New Data and Testimony Show How the Biden Administration Opened the Southwest Border and Abandoned Interior Enforcement,” based on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data. The comprehensive report, compiled by the Majority Republicans on the Committee, describes the broken state of the immigration system under the Biden administration and its failures to enforce the immigration laws, but most importantly provides extensive detail and analysis on the human cost of Biden’s border and immigration policies.
More than 6 million aliens have been encountered at the Southwest border by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) since President Biden took office. Of these, 5.4 million were illegal entrants apprehended by Border Patrol agents, and nearly 618,000 were inadmissible aliens deemed so by CBP officers at border ports of entry.
Critically, the report highlights the fact that, despite DHS’s processing of over 2.6 million aliens for removal under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), actual removals under Biden have been shockingly low. Only 5,993 illegal aliens who were encountered at the Southwest border and placed in removal proceedings before an immigration judge were actually removed by the Biden administration by the end of March, meaning the vast majority of those aliens -- 99.7% -- remain in the U.S.
The report also highlights other data that the administration would prefer to hide -- that 1.7 million-plus “got-aways” have entered the country under Biden and 205,473 others have entered thanks to Biden’s “illegal categorical parole programs.”
Andrew Arthur, the Center’s fellow in law and policy and author of the analysis, writes, “All of this raises the question of whether destroying our immigration system hasn’t been the administration’s plan all along, all the better to extort the massive amnesty it’s been demanding since Day One in exchange for a modicum of enforcement.”

Texas Seizes Cartel Island in the Rio Grande in Risky First-of-a-Kind Operation
The operation to secure and hold the island involved meticulous planning, with law enforcement officers facing potential booby traps and sharpshooters perched on the Mexican side of the river. Texas made a decisive move to combat the activities of violent Mexican cartels, but they will now need to hold the island. Cartels control the Mexican heights overlooking the island and are equipped with military-grade weaponry and strategic sniper positions.
“Among Texas operations, this one is unusual because it confronts heavily militarized cartels in the most direct and prolonged manner, posing higher ongoing risks to state law enforcement and military personnel,” stated Todd Bensman, the Center’s senior national security fellow who embedded with Texas law enforcement. “These cartels have shown little restraint in shooting at and hitting police officers on the American side in the past.”
In the coming months, this operation will warrant close attention, especially because it highlights the alarming presence of Mexican cartels operating not just in close proximity to our country, but within our own territory.

24K Chinese Migrants Apprehended at Southwest Border in FY 2023
Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 24,000 migrants from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) along the Southwest border during fiscal year 2023, according to a DHS report reviewed by Breitbart Texas. The report, provided by a source within the agency, shows the increase in apprehensions of migrants from the communist regime represents a more than 1,115 percent increase from the 1,987 apprehended the previous year.
According to the report reviewed by Breitbart Texas, migrants from the PRC apprehended during fiscal year 2023 represent a more significant increase from fiscal year 2021 when the Border Patrol encountered a total of 342 migrants from the PRC. More than 11,000 Chinese nationals have entered the United States since June.
Border Patrol reports dating back to FY 2007 reveal the cumulative total of Chinese migrant apprehensions is less than 20,000.
As reported by Breitbart Texas, the significant rise in PRC nationals was alarming to a source within CBP at that time and defied any explanation agency intelligence officials could conclude through post-arrest debriefs.
According to the source, more than 80 percent of the migrants from the PRC are single adults. After processing by the Border Patrol, most are released to pursue asylum claims in the United States.
The source says intelligence debriefings yield little information about the migrants and their purpose for entering. The language barrier is proving to be a challenge, according to the source. The volume of migrants crossing from more than 280 countries during the fiscal year negatively impacted the time Border Patrol agents could dedicate to debriefing individual migrants. During the month of September, on many days, Border Patrol apprehensions surged to nearly 10,000 migrants daily.
Breitbart Texas recently spoke to Dr. Kenneth Allard, a retired Army Colonel and former Dean of Students at the National War College, regarding the increase in Chinese nationals entering the United States. As an author of several works, including Warheads: Cable News and the Fog of War, a former intelligence officer, and special assistant to the Army Chief of Staff, Allard expressed concern with the lack of intelligence regarding the spike in migrant apprehension of citizens from the People’s Republic of China.
Allard says the fact may be that most of the migrants from the PRC are dissidents fleeing poor conditions in China. But as an expert on totalitarian regimes, he believes the current administration lacks the willpower to investigate the phenomenon properly.
“Totalitarian governments like China are great exploiters of opportunity. They recognize weakness and capitalize on it immediately, Allard told Breitbart Texas. “What we are seeing reflects a deliberate policy choice by the regime.”
When asked about the potential for China to take advantage of the current crisis along the southern border, Allard says the regime most certainly recognizes the weakness President Biden has exhibited on the international stage, adding, “It’s obvious he is not entirely in control at present, China realizes that as well.”
The travel route for most of Chinese migrants is costly and arduous, according to a source within CBP. The journey to the United States usually involves traveling from Hong Kong to Turkey and onto Ecuador. Ecuador is a common point along the route, as Chinese nationals are not required to possess a visa to enter the Latin American country.
The migrants, according to the source, move through Panama’s Darien Gap before traversing through Central America, into Mexico, and on to the United States’ southern border. As reported by Breitbart Texas, the smuggling fees have been revealed to be as high as $55,000 to reach the U.S./Mexico Border from the People’s Republic of China.
According to the FBI, the threat emanating from the government of China and those loyal to the Chinese Communist Party is a top intelligence priority. On the agency website concerning the China threat, the FBI emphasizes the seriousness of the threat, stating, “The counterintelligence and economic espionage efforts emanating from the government of China and the Chinese Communist Party are a grave threat to the economic well-being and democratic values of the United States.”
The FBI clarifies that the threat is not the Chinese people or people of Chinese descent or heritage but comes from the programs and policies pursued by an authoritarian government. Distinguishing the difference between economic migrants from China and those loyal to the Chinese Communist Party at the time of arrest at the southwest border is the challenge, according to the CBP source.

‘Today It’s Israel, Tomorrow It’s Us’: After Israel Attack, GOP Warns of Terror in U.S. Due to Joe Biden’s ‘Asinine’ Open Border Policy
Republican officials are slamming President Joe Biden’s “asinine” open border policies that have allowed in “military aged men from all corners of the world,” warning of potential terror attacks in the U.S. and the likelihood of terrorist “sleeper cells” as they point to the recent brutal attacks in Israel that saw terrorists breach the border and murder hundreds of Israeli civilians while taking dozens as hostages, warning, “Today it’s Israel, tomorrow it’s us.”
Highlighting Israel’s costly failure to secure its border over the weekend, Republicans are speaking out on the increasing threat of terrorism on U.S. soil due to poor border security that has already seen an unprecedented amount of people on the terrorist watchlist caught attempting to cross the southern border, leading to concerns of untold amounts of others who have managed to successfully infiltrate the country.
“Now is the time for bold action,” declared former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). “Here’s how America must meet the moment: 1. Rescue all American hostages 2. Provide full support for our ally Israel 3. Confront Iran and the new Axis of Evil 4. Focus on securing our own open border 5. Condemn antisemitism in the United States.”
“We should wake up ourselves. We could have the same thing happen next week to us,” McCarthy noted. “We caught more people on the terrorist watchlist in February than we caught in the entire administration. We could have cells sitting inside of America right now.”
“The same people that raided Israel are pouring into our once beautiful USA, through our TOTALLY OPEN SOUTHERN BORDER, at Record Numbers,” former President Donald Trump wrote. “Are they planning an attack within our Country? Crooked Joe Biden and his BOSS, Barack Hussein Obama, did this to us!”
Calling to cut off any and all types of foreign aid flowing to Hamas, Republican presidential candidate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called on America to “immediately shut down America’s wide-open southern border to ensure we are in a position to better protect Americans here at home from these real threats.”
U.S. Congressman Cory Mills (R-FL) chimed in:
Thanks to Biden’s open borders there’s been hundreds cross[ing] into the US that we know were on terrorist watch lists. Millions of military aged males ha[ve] poured across our borders. Not refugees with women and children, and not just from Central/ S. America. We must immediately shutdown our borders!
“Do you think our enemies, knowing that we have an open border, are not taking advantage of that?” DeSantis told a crowd in Iowa Monday, as he warned, “there’s going to be a terrorist attack in this country that we’re going to be able to trace back to the southern border.”
“There’s a history of Iran’s IRGC [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] working with the Mexican drug cartels to infiltrate our open border,” wrote Congressman Michael Waltz (R-FL), a former Green Beret who still serves in the U.S. Army National Guard. “They could be doing it again right now as we speak.”
Citing a statement from President Joe Biden noting that “federal law enforcement partners are closely monitoring for any domestic threats in connection with the horrific terrorist attacks in Israel,” Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) called to “[m]aybe start by securing our wide open border.”
“SECURING the border is a matter of national security to protect ALL Americans,” wrote Congressman Tony Gonzales (R-TX). “This year alone bad actors on the TERRORIST watch list have illegally entered the US from Iran, Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Lebanon etc. today it’s Israel, tomorrow it’s us.”
“The Biden team is well aware that terrorists on the Watch List have entered the United States through the open southern border….they are undoubtedly laying low now but you can be sure they will strike us,” wrote former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell. “We are less safe under Joe Biden.”
The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) wrote in a post:
Our Nation is not immune to an attack on our homeland—similar to what Israel faces now. Since the beginning of the Biden Administration, we’ve had at least 264 known or suspected terrorists caught at the border plus at least 1.7 MILLION known gotaways that have snuck in.
“Our border is wide open, and all Americans are at risk!” the think tank added.
“This year we’ve stopped 160 people on the terrorist watchlist crossing our southern border. How many did we miss?” wrote Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN). “Our open southern border is a huge national security threat.”
“As we watch these horrific acts of terrorism in Israel, remember that 250+ terrorists were caught at our own border & 1.7 MILLION unvetted individuals have snuck into USA,” wrote Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY). “Who are they? Where are they? What are their intentions?”
“@POTUS’ asinine policies have made us vulnerable!” she insisted.
“Joe Biden called a ‘lid’ at noon. WHERE IS KAMALA HARRIS? She’s disappeared, just like she did during Afghanistan,” wrote Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-IL).
“Americans have died & are being held hostage,” she added. “As ‘Border Czar,’ is Kamala Harris allowing Hamas terror cells to cross our open southern border? Will the ‘press’ ask?”
“There has been a dramatic increase in suspected terrorists crossing the border since@JoeBiden took office,” wrote Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL). “This is unacceptable. One suspected terrorist is too many.”
“Is America next?” asked Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX).
“The horrific invasion and attack on Israel should be a terrifying reminder to all of our leaders, military, and citizens, that for 3 years, our southern border has been invaded by military aged men from all corners of the world.”
“After watching the heartbreaking images and videos coming out of Israel, I’m now convinced the next attack on America’s homeland will be worse than what we saw in September of 2001,” he added, as he called for real measures “to end the invasion of our country.”
“Well over 250 people on the terrorist watchlist arrested at our Southern border and over 1.5 million KNOWN gotaways since Biden took office,” wrote Florida Republican Attorney General Ashley Moody. “The despicable barbaric acts we witnessed this weekend serve as a reminder that true evil exists and yet, thanks to@JoeBiden, we don’t know who may already be in our country.”
“We MUST secure the border now,” she added. “Border security is national security.”
“It is a possibility that terrorist sleeper cells have already infiltrated our country through our unsecured southern border.@FBI do your job and focus on investigating instead of harassing voters ahead of 2024,” wrote Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL).
“How many Hezbollah and Hamas sympathizers have illegally crossed our border in the last three years?” asked Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN).
“How many Hamas sleeper cells have crossed our southern border under the Biden Administration’s policies? We are not prepared,” wrote Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ).
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) asked:
Since the Biden admin’s open border policies has allowed our country to be invaded by millions of unknown people from over 160 countries, including terrorists, will the Biden FBI keep targeting Jan 6, 2021 protestors or will they question any of the Pro-Hamas protesters and their connections since they were out using their free speech against Israel today?
“Or is it the stolen election crowd that are the real threat?” she added.
She also called to “CLOSE THE BORDER!” while warning of “new neighbors.”
“Given the horrifying images we’ve seen in Israel, America must take action immediately to protect our own nation and borders,” wrote Republican Ohio Senate candidate Bernie Moreno.
“Iran’s leaders and the terrorists chant ‘death to Israel,’ and ‘death to America.’ We must prepare to secure Americans and be proactive, not reactive,” he added.
“Key lesson for America to learn from the attack on Israel: we cannot be complacent about defending *our own* borders. If it can happen there, it can happen here,” Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy wrote. “Our own border is near-completely porous right now. The Southern Border is a disaster & I visited the Northern Border yesterday which is wide-open for invasion.”
He added:
Hamas picked a moment when Israel is deeply divided over domestic politics, as we are now here at home. Our own foreign policy establishment has focused on distant foreign priorities while leaving us badly vulnerable on border defense, cyber and super-EMP defense, nuclear missile defense, and space-based defenses. We can’t lose sight of that & should use the attacks on Israel as a wake-up call here at home.
According to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report reviewed by Breitbart Texas, 61,471 migrants from “Special Interest Countries” entered the United States in Fiscal Year 2023.
A source within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) revealed that most of the migrants, mainly single adult males from countries subject to travel warnings by the U.S. State Department due to terrorism, were released into the United States to pursue asylum claims.
Meanwhile, President Biden’s administration is overseeinga surge in illegal aliens crossing the United States-Mexico border who are on the government’s “Terrorist Watch List.”

Since October 2022, Biden’s DHS has encountered 149 illegal aliens at the nation’s northern and southern borders who were revealed to be listed on the federal government’s Terrorist Watch List.
According to an interim report assembled by GOP House Judiciary Committee staff, the Biden administration is potentially failing to track millions of migrants who have illegally entered through the southern border as monthly encounters surge.

Terrorist Watchlist Encounters at Southern Border Up 7,450% Under Biden, Setting New FY Record
The number of people on the Terrorist Watchlist caught trying to illegally enter the U.S. through the southern border has skyrocketed since Pres. Joe Biden took office, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) enforcement statistics reveal.
Last updated on September 15, CBP enforcement statistics show that Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 set a record for the number of people on the U.S. government's terror watchlist caught trying to illegally enter the U.S., hitting 151 with two weeks to spare.
Based on the federal government’s fiscal year (October 1 through September 30), terror watchlist encounters have surged under Biden:
In FY 2017 (eight months under Trump, four months under Obama), there were only two terror watchlist encounters.
In FY 2023 (through Sept. 15), there were 151 terror watchlist encounters – an increase of 7,450% from FY 2017.
FY 2023’s count is more than 50 times higher than the three terror watchist encounters in Trump’s last full fiscal year (FY 2020).
FY 2023 is more than 24 times the combined number of terror watchlist encounters during the four fiscals years FY 2017 through FY 2020 (11).
FY 2023’s 151 terror watchlist encounters exceed the total of 122 for the previous six fiscal years (FY 2017-FY 2022) combined.
What’s more, an estimated 1.5 million illegal aliens have slipped into the U.S. without being captured during the Biden Administration.
Any illegal aliens on the terror watchlist among the 1.5 million “gottaways” are not be included the CBP statistics.
The U.S. Border Patrol reports that 0.0084% of all illegal alien encounters in FY 2023 were on the terror watchlist. If that rate holds true for gotaways, it would mean an addition 1,260 people on the terror watchlist have entered the U.S. without being captured, under Biden.

We can’t say we weren’t warned. Joe Biden’s abject incompetence at foreign policy is legendary.
“Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to fuck things up,” former President Barack Obama reportedly warned a fellow Democrat during the 2020 primary. Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates said in 2014 that Biden “has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”
Biden’s record somehow has only gotten worse since he became president.

His Afghanistan withdrawal strategy lead to chaos, horror, and death – including for children and American servicemen. His Ukraine/Russia policy undoubtedly played a major role in Putin’s decision to invade. China has routinely humiliated the U.S. on the world stage. Biden is more responsible than any single person for the humanitarian crisis at the U.S./Mexico border. His efforts to keep America’s Southern border opens confirms that, stunningly, national security is simply not a priority for the U.S. President.
So, yeah, he’s wrong on every major foreign policy decision.
He staffed his foreign policy machine with grifters, dissemblers, and ideologues. Those who didn’t spend the Trump years hawking their services to the highest bidder were perched at think tanks, where they were no less at the mercy of foreign interests. Just last week, the Pentagon announced a probe into a Biden appointee over her cozy relationship with Iranian officials while promoting the nuclear deal as a scholarly “expert.”
Once in power, these phony “experts” have rarely even hinted at progress toward Middle East peace of any kind.
In fact, the region has been markedly more chaotic than the relative calm of the Trump years.
Despite Biden’s campaign promise for a return to “normal” foreign policy, this weekend’s blood bath carried out against Israelis by Iran-backed Hamas terrorists may well be his biggest foreign policy failure. For starters, Biden’s team appears to have been blindsided by the attacks. This should shock no one, since these same people have spent most of his term wrangling with allies in Saudi Arabia and Israel while trying to appease Iran (which wants us all dead).

In fact, in response to Hamas attacking Israel, the United States’ Office for Palestinian Affairs called for Israelis to “refrain from violence and retaliatory attacks.” (They have since deleted the offending tweet.)
There is a word for granting moral equivalence between terrorists and their victims: evil.
Upon taking office, Biden chilled the U.S.-Saudi alliance. President Joe will rarely, if ever, defy his left-wing base, and his base had become obsessed with the murder of Jamal Khashoggi by the Saudis. This made it impossible for Biden to engage with the Saudis at a level necessary to forge a stronger peace in the region. Additionally, as my colleague Joel Pollak has noted, Biden paused arms sales to Saudi Arabia and “reopened negotiations with Iran toward a new nuclear deal over Saudi (and Israeli) objections.” Russia would be a key partner if a new Iran deal takes shape. The same people who told us that Vladimir Putin is the world’s greatest threat are perfectly fine pushing for a deal that elevates him on the world stage while empowering Iran. This is incoherent and irresponsible.
Since Biden has been president, the U.N. nuclear watchdog found that Iran has enriched uranium to near weapons-grade.
That doesn’t seem to bother Joe Biden, who recently released $6 billion in frozen funds to Iran as part of deal that included a prisoner swap. Iran funds and arms Hamas. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi declared “victory” after the latest terror attack in Israel. While the $6 billion hasn’t arrived yet, and it is supposed to be used specifically for peaceful purposes, money is fungible and padding Iran’s bank account obviously frees them up to fund more terror. Only liars and demagogues would pretend this is not how money works. What’s more, people (and countries) spend when they have the expectation of money coming in; they don’t necessarily wait for the check to arrive. That’s basic economics.
In fact, the Iranian President has said he’ll do whatever he wants with the money.

But wait, there is more: Biden inexplicably revoked the terrorist designation of the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist group. He also pulled U.S. support for Yemen’s government against the Houthi rebels — in a country that sits across a narrow strait from a key U.S. naval base in Africa. All of this strengthens Iran.
Meanwhile, Biden has been icy to Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu, despite Bibi’s efforts to engage productively with President Joe. Biden and his team refused to meet with Israel’s duly elected government. They also restored funding to Palestine over internal objections that the aid could be diverted to Hamas.
U.S. weapons abandoned in Afghanistan — another catastrophe Joe Biden failed to see coming — are also believed to now be in the hands of Hamas.
As I document in my new book, Breaking Biden (the definitive book on Joe Biden’s record with a strong emphasis on his disastrous foreign policy), the Pentagon reported that the U.S. left $7.12 billion worth of military equipment in Afghanistan upon our departure. This includes aircraft, air-to-ground weaponry, other military vehicles, munitions, and communications equipment.
Here is some of what has reportedly fallen in the Taliban’s lap:
208 aircraft, including UH-60 Black Hawks and M-17 helicopters, between 2003 and 2016
61,000 military vehicles of all types, including more than 2,000 armored vehicles and Mine-Resistant, Ambush- Protected (MRAP) vehicles
258,000 rifles, including M-16s and AK-47s
56,000 machine guns
31,000 rocket-propelled and handheld grenade launchers
18,000 “gravity” bombs
16,000 aviation rockets
1,845 D-30 mortar systems with more than a million mortar rounds
224 D-130 howitzer artillery guns 30 million rounds of ammunition 17,400 night-vision devices
95 small drones
body armor
biometric security equipment
There were likely other beneficiaries of this bounty besides the Taliban. As I note in the book, sophisticated weaponry and convoys of military vehicles could easily have fallen into the hands of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps or other hostile actors in the region. Two months after the evacuation, in October 2021, U.S. supplies were already for sale by Afghani gun dealers.

It looks like we now know who got some of them: exactly the people we all feared.
As the disasters in the Middle East have mounted, the typically stubborn Biden has occasionally reversed course, meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent weeks. We were finally back on track for an historic deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia, the framework for which was established under the Trump administration.
But this is all far too little, far too late. After Hamas’s terrorist attack, it would be a miracle if such a deal gets done now.
If it were in a vacuum, all the brutality would already be unthinkable. The systematic slaughter and murder of women. The preying on innocents. The stacking of bodies in the street. All of this is horrifying even for a region of the world known for constant war.
Yet it’s not in a vacuum. There is context. And the context is that the United States government under Joe Biden has signaled a weakening of our relationship with our allies in Israel, it has elected to fund the funders to terrorism, and it has repeatedly entertained a nuclear deal with the hideous Iranian regime that hopes to eviscerate both us and Israel.
