The state of California is home to more illegal aliens than any other state in the country. Approximately one in five illegal aliens lives in California, Pew reported.

Immigration Studies (CIS) finds that about 72 percent of households headed by noncitizens and immigrants use one or more forms of taxpayer-funded welfare programs in California — the number one immigrant-receiving state in the U.S.

Newsom: Trump ‘Tried to Wreck the Country — He’s Lighting Democracy on Fire’

Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that former President Donald Trump “tried to wreck the country” and was now “lighting democracy on fire.”

Co-host Jon Karl said, “Michelle Obama, as I’m sure you saw, said that people should be terrified about what could possibly happen with the outcome of this election. Is she right to be terrified?”

Newsom said, “Yeah, absolutely. I mean, we all should be. I mean, what more evidence do you need? I mean, here’s a guy who lost the election, Trump, and tried to wreck the country. He’s lighting democracy on fire. He’s making democracy a partisan issue. I never imagined that in my lifetime.”

He continued, “So the consequences are profound and pronounced. And that’s why I’m down here because this race has started, and we need to lift up the issues, the successes, the extraordinary successes of the last three years, the Biden-Harris administration, and then we drive contrast.

Newsom added, “It’s not even a complicated campaign. We have the receipts. We have the best three-year record of any modern American presidency, period, full stop. And you look at the issue, issue by issue, they poll overwhelmingly, the American people support what Biden has done.”o

Manchin on Border: ‘Democrats Let This Happen’ and Biden Can Declare Emergency

On Friday’s “CNN News Central,” Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) stated that “the Democrats let” the crisis at the border happen and urged President Joe Biden to declare a national emergency on the border if Congress can’t pass legislation to fix the problem.

Manchin said, “It’s the most dangerous thing we have, is the border security right now and a lapse of border security. So, we can fix that. But when you have former President Trump saying, oh, no, we can’t do that, because let’s just go ahead and blame the Democrats. Well, the Democrats let this happen. But it’s time to fix it. So, we can fix this working together. But not to fix it because of politics, it’s not who we are as a country. It’s not what our purpose in Washington is all about.”

He concluded, “The crisis at the border is an absolute, total crisis, and it’s dangerous. And we can fix it. And if not, I would ask the President, please, Mr. President declare a national emergency. Don’t let the politics destroy, basically, the border situation and security that we need at that border, and I would hope he would do that.”

News of Dex’s death due to an accidental fentanyl overdose comes one day after Rick Harrison, one of the chief talents on Pawn Stars, revealed that his 39-year-old son, Adam, died from a fentanyl overdose, which he blamed on the border crisis.

“The fentanyl crisis in this country must be taken more seriously. It seems it is just flowing over the borders and nothing is being done about it. We must do better,” he said.

The annual death toll from fentanyl poisoning among Americans now equals the annual death toll of American soldiers in World War II. But Biden has made no effort to deter the Chinese from poisoning Americans citizens by, for example, ending the subsidies we provide to their economy or revoking China’s Most Favored Nation trade status, or closing all the Confucius Institutes in our universities set up to steal our technologies. From the Chinese Communist point of view, this alone would be worth the tens of millions of dollars they have poured into the Bidens’ pockets. DAVID HOROWITZ

So they want billions and billions in assistance to foreign countries, such as Ukraine, which is not a NATO country, but a big hog wallow for the U.S. foreign policy consulting establishment, nearly all Democrats, drawing lots of "contracts," if not losing track of the money entirely, as a top Ukrainian official admitted, but they refuse to lift a finger to halt Joe Biden's open-borders policies, which have created untold misery on city streets as migrants are dumped, human trafficking networks are empowered, cartels are growing so rich they are driving Mexicans out of their homes, families are being separated and broken up and kids sold into slavery based on Biden's immigration incentives, migrants are dying en route through dangerous crossings, illegal alien crime is growing, and Democrat-led cities are seeing their budgets blown out and vital police and fire services cut.

REALITIES OF JOE BIDEN'S OPEN BORDER:

The lethal policy also sucks jobs and wealth from heartland states by subsidizing coastal investors with a flood of low-wage workers, high-occupancy renters, and government-aided consumers.

The population inflow also reduces the political clout of native-born Americans, because it encourages elites to divorce themselves from the needs and interests of the ordinary Americans whom they want to treat as an irredeemable caste NEIL MUNRO

JOE BIDEN is known as a serial liar, a "public servant" who has somehow managed to accrue tremendous wealth, a race-baiting opportunist, Catholic-in-name-only, and a bought-and-paid-for politician in bed with criminal cartels and foreign foes.  In another era, Joe Biden would have been run out of his country much the same way Benedict Arnold was two and a half centuries ago; in an era when integrity, honor, fortitude, fidelity, and grit have been jettisoned for immorality, unscrupulousness, weakness, betrayal, and craven pliability, however, he is elevated to king sleazeball in a city drowning in sleaze. A word about the elections down Mexico way

Mexicans elect a new president every six years.  So it occasionally happens that the U.S. and Mexico have elections on the same year. Such is 2024, when voters in both countries will get to choose a new president and Congress.

Former U.S. ambassador to Mexico Earl Anthony Wayne has expressed some concerns about democracy south of the border. This is what he wrote:

AMLO has been very critical of the Supreme Court and other autonomous institutions that were created over the years as Mexico was building its democracy. However, AMLO has not had the two-thirds majority in both houses of Congress needed to approve the constitutional reforms he would like to see. His attempted reforms have sparked very large counter demonstrations and been rebuffed by Mexico’s courts, but he has persisted in his calls for constitutional change.

During AMLO’s six-year tenure, the independent global indexes on democracy and related issues, including corruption and rule of law, have reported deterioration and backsliding in the quality of Mexico’s democracy. The 2023 World Justice Project’s Rule of Law Index, for example, tracks a decline in Mexico’s rule of law score during AMLO’s term and currently ranks Mexico at 116 out of the 142 countries measured. Thus, the outcome of the Mexico’s elections could be very important for the strength of Mexico’s democratic institutions.

Not surprisingly, many in Mexico see the 2024 elections as a test for maintaining the strength of its democracy – echoing themes being heard in the U.S. election campaign.

Interesting.  I learned this week that Mexicans are planning a huge march nationwide to protect their democracy from what they see as AMLO's overreach.

At the moment, AMLO’s candidate, Claudia Sheinbaum, looks like an easy winner in the upcoming election.  She is leading against opposition candidate, Senator Xóchitl Gálvez, by a strong margin.  One of these two ladies will be the next president of Mexico and it looks like it will be Claudia.

The real threat to democracy is that AMLO doesn't go away.  I am not saying that he stays as president but rather does not leave the stage.  His candidate Sheinbaum looks more and more like a puppet of AMLO.  She is a well-educated woman but does not have the personality to match AMLO's political skills.

At some point, likely President Sheinbaum may have to lock AMLO in the closet and prove to Mexicans that she is in charge.  It will be tough.

Jim Jordan Subpoenas Xavier Becerra for Details on Criminals, Gang Members Posing as Migrant Children

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) has subpoenaed Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra for information on the agency’s handling of criminals and gang members posing as Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) in the hopes of being released into the United States.

On Tuesday, Jordan announced that he subpoenaed Becerra, suggesting that HHS has been less than forthcoming regarding how the agency handles UACs who are discovered to be criminals and gang members.

HHS oversees the UAC program, in which children arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border are briefly taken into Department of Homeland Security (DHS) custody before being transferred to HHS custody, where they are eventually placed with an adult sponsor — the majority of whom are not their biological parents.

According to Jordan, the Judiciary Committee has asked repeatedly since June of last year for all information from HHS regarding where UACs are placed, the vetting process for adult sponsors, and what the agency does when a UAC is found to be a criminal or gang member.

HHS, Jordan alleges, has been unable to disclose the total number of UACs that the agency has placed in the custody of a known sex offender or the number of adult sponsors who have been rejected for being a convicted criminal, including a convicted murderer.

From Fiscal Year 2021 through Fiscal Year 2023, more than 370,000 UACs have been released into the U.S. interior by Biden’s DHS. The majority of UACs, 61 to 66 percent, are males, while 69 percent to 72 percent are 15 to 18-years-old.

As Breitbart News has chronicled, Becerra has been unable to guarantee that 100 percent of adult sponsors’ homes are inspected before a UAC is placed in their care — a requirement for many pet adoption programs, Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) previously noted.

Last year, the New York Times released a bombshell report suggesting that more than 85,000 UACs released into the U.S. interior had been lost in the system after being sent to live with adult sponsors — most of whom were not their biological parents — by HHS.

HHS losing contact with these UACs coincides with a boom in labor trafficking among migrant children. The labor trafficking pipeline has gotten so out of hand that the Department of Labor Inspector General has opened an investigation into the Biden administration’s handling of the issue.

Liberal California Emigrants are Toxic

By R. Quinn Kennedy

When Arizona, a state that has historically leaned conservative, was won by Joe Biden and now-senator Mark Kelly this week, very few were taken by surprise. Extensive polling indicated Arizona was ripe for swinging liberal and in this instance, at least, the polling was correct.

The question is why? Why has a state that held two elected Republican senators as recently as 2018 and which held a dependable stable of electoral votes for GOP presidential candidates become a purple state on its way to becoming solidly blue? Have Arizona residents suddenly awaked to the idea that liberal policies and doctrines are more sensible than conservative ones? Hardly.

The answer regarding Arizona’s swing lies in its neighbor to the west, California. Since 2012, California has overwhelmingly sent more transplants to Arizona than any other state. When surveyed, escaping Californians cite high taxes, high crime rates, unaffordable housing, out-of-control homelessness, and high unemployment rates as their top reasons for fleeing.

Who is responsible for creating such an alarming living environment within the state? California liberals. A November, 2020 report produced by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University stated that California has 395,608 regulatory restrictions. The sheer volume and scope of California regulations creates such a compliance nightmare that they kill entire industries, send housing prices to unattainable heights, and restrict even commonplace liberties for which conservative leaning states are known.

Piled onto California’s endless river of regulations are its nonsensical laws and policies. Twenty major metropolitan cities or counties in California have established laws, ordinances, regulations, or other practices that shield illegal immigrants from prosecution after committing a crime. These counties brazenly safeguard illegal immigrant criminals against deportation either through noncompliance or by refusing to hand them over to federal agencies such as ICE. With over $1.5 trillion in state and local government debt, California effectively has little money to spare for conveniences such as criminal incarceration. What do sanctuary cities and counties see as the alternative to handing illegal immigrant criminals over for deportation? Release them back into the general population, of course.

Consider this: Between 2014 and 2017, the FBI reported that 49 states saw an average increase in crime annually of around 3%. After implementing “humane” alternatives to criminal prosecution, California crime increased more than 12% per year over the same time period. With irrational sanctuary policies that send a clear message of little to no consequence for offenses, is it any wonder California’s crime rate is now spiraling out of control?

Arizona is not the only beneficiary of the California exodus. The Colorado State Demography Office has published an active flow map of people moving into the state from 2010 on. Disturbingly, the state sending the most movers to Colorado since then has consistently been California. As recently as 2004, Colorado had the political trifecta of a Republican governor and a Republican-controlled House and Senate. A short ten years later, all three had turned irrevocably Democrat. The subsequent consequence? A drastic increase in state and local regulations, a dramatic increase in violent crimes, a severe shortage of home inventory and affordable housing, and a staggering increase in homelessness. Do these newfound troubles sound familiar to any other state mentioned here? The only safeguard against out-of-control tax hikes in Colorado is the TABOR Amendment passed by voters 1992, prior to the influx of California residents, that requires taxpayer approval for any new tax. Not surprisingly, emboldened liberals in Colorado are vigorously resolute in repealing this tax hike protection. As of the most recent election they are unsuccessful, yet remain undeterred.

What has coincided with Colorado’s decline? The mass inflow of Californians to the state. Californians have brought with them all the very same liberal doctrines and ideologies that forced their flight from California in the first place. Does this dissuade liberal Californians from shaping Colorado into the very image of California? Not in the least.

If there is any hope for Arizona, it is that they might learn from the resulting ruin of Colorado, however unlikely.

In the 2020 election, Texas was startlingly considered in play for liberals. Since 2015, which state has contributed the most emigrants into Texas? Not surprisingly, the state of California. The hope for liberals is that they can turn Texas into the next purple soon-to-be blue state. The coveted prize is Texas’ electoral votes. Even more insidious, if liberals are able to capture Texas as they have done in Colorado and Arizona, they will force the state to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. They will then achieve their ultimate goal of a Democrat president reigning over the United States for endless generations until the point our country experiences the same collapse as other great civilizations throughout world history.

The obvious question is this: How can Texas avoid the same fate as states such as Colorado and Arizona? Simple. By being proactive.

It is much easier for liberals to enact new legislation than to argue for the removal of existing laws. With this in mind, Texas should take advantage of their current Republican-controlled Senate, House, and governor’s office by making haste and passing laws that would limit the future incursion of liberal meddling. Texas can presently enact laws that prohibit sanctuary cities, require voter approval to remove the state’s mandated balanced budget, require that any new regulation must necessitate the removal of an existing one, and compel voter approval of each new local or state tax including non-user fees. While such laws may only serve to stem the liberal takeover of the state, they would be roadblocks making it much more difficult for ideological infiltration in areas that affect inhabitant’s liberties and quality of life.

It would be absurd to suppose Californians have malintent. Rather, they are simply following the course with which they are most familiar while being blissfully ignorant of the negative unintended consequences their political ideology brings. To suggest that any act of suppression, aggression, or intimidation towards Californians moving into red states is acceptable would simply be un-American and subject to the same type of hypocrisy liberals practice. If conservatives stoop to their level, we have lost the battle and, perhaps, the war.

However, by taking aggressive legislative action in states that have not yet succumbed to liberal infiltration, Conservatives will effectively be planting our flag in a defiant refusal to hand over our institutions and our liberty.

Why All of America Could See a San Francisco-Style Homeless Crisis

The homeless crisis in America is set to come to a head with a Supreme Court ruling as early as this spring, in the case of Johnson v. City of Grants Pass, Oregon.

The Supreme Court could—depending on what it decides—force changes in city ordinances and homeless policies across the country.

The decision is one of the most anticipated in years for San Francisco and other cities facing legal challenges from homeless people and advocacy groups.

At the heart of the case is the challenge by three homeless people to ordinances in the Oregon town of Grants Pass that prohibit homeless people “from using a blanket, pillow, or cardboard box for protection from the elements.”

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, drawing on logic applied in the 2018 decision in Martin v. City of Boise, sided with the plaintiffs and blocked Grants Pass from enforcing its ordinance in the absence of shelters or other accommodations for the homeless.

The decision applies across nine western states, Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.

Officials are left with two unappealing choices: let the sprawling encampments stand, or provide immediate emergency housing far beyond what their strained budgets allow for.

The Supreme Court, which announced on Jan. 11 that it will review the case, must either uphold or throw out the 9th Circuit’s ruling.

With close to 600,000 homeless people in America, according to recent Department of Housing and Urban Development figures, many cities that are bickering about what to do are paying attention to the case.

In Los Angeles, some 75,000 people live on the street, and the current mayor’s first action on taking office was to declare a homeless state of emergency.

In San Francisco, the crisis is so severe that residents are fleeing a city they have long cherished as one of the world’s most beautiful and livable locales, not to mention a dynamic tech hub. Nearly 8,000 people now live on the streets there.

Rampant public drug use, panhandling, urination, defecation, and other unruly conduct have taken over some areas of the City by the Bay and the city’s administration’s inability to enforce its own laws and clear out homeless encampments makes the crisis much worse.

“San Francisco is a mess, and even if it were to reduce its homeless population modestly, by a third, the streets would still look worse than most American cities,” Stephen Eide, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute who studies homelessness and public policy, told The Epoch Times.

The city is a battleground for myriad legal, social, economic, and political forces amid rising public alarm about homelessness. Lawyers there want to press pause on their own court battle over an injunction forbidding the police from cracking down on homeless camps. In their view, the looming Supreme Court case will render other legal struggles moot.

Homelessness advocates insist that longstanding legal precedent guarantees rights to people living on the street, and the city is not free to disregard those rights and take away homeless people’s property without due process, just because some of the homeless commit more serious violations and spark a public outcry.

But others who have studied the issue find providing housing for ever-growing numbers of homeless to be an unsustainable burden for cities and towns struggling to stay solvent.

image-5579427
A San Francisco police officer asks two homeless people on the sidewalk to move off the street during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, in San Francisco on Nov. 14, 2023.

A Protracted Battle

San Francisco’s impasse has its roots in a lawsuit that a local advocacy group, the Coalition on Homelessness, launched in September 2022 with the aid of the ACLU Foundation of Northern California, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, and the global law firm Latham & Watkins. Also named as plaintiffs in the suit were seven people who were, or had recently been, homeless.

One goal of the lawsuit was to stop the city from arresting and ticketing people who lived on the street, and clearing out their encampments—in short, to put an end to sweeps of homeless settlements and to put pressure on the administration to ramp up temporary housing for the undomiciled.

In a Dec. 23, 2022, ruling, Judge Donna Ryu of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California slapped the city with a preliminary injunction, denying it the power to enforce or threaten to enforce laws and ordinances that barred “involuntarily homeless individuals” from lying, sleeping, or sitting on public property.

Judge Ryu sided with the plaintiffs who believed that San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) actions had violated their Fourth Amendment right to be secure in their persons and possessions against unreasonable searches and seizures.

image-5579416

“Plaintiffs have presented significant evidence of a practice of seizing and destroying of homeless individuals’ unabandoned personal property in violation of the Fourth Amendment … and San Francisco’s own bag and tag policy, which clearly requires the City to store personal property so that homeless individuals may retrieve,” the judge wrote.

Lawyers for San Francisco unsuccessfully challenged Judge Ryu’s decision in federal court. In September 2023, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit shot down the city’s claim that Judge Ryu had overstepped legal bounds set in Martin v. Boise and Johnson v. Grants Pass.

On Jan. 11, another Ninth Circuit Court ruling clarified the definition of “involuntarily homeless” while substantially upholding the injunction.

Instead of appealing. San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu on Jan. 17 has filed a motion to essentially pause proceedings to wait for the Supreme Court decision on Grants Pass.

“It makes no sense to spend months litigating this case and expend enormous resources collecting evidence and expert testimony when the entire legal landscape may soon change,” Mr. Chiu said in a statement.

Protecting Homeless Rights

Jennifer Friedenbach, executive director of the Coalition on Homelessness, the organization that sued the city of San Francisco for seeking to break up encampments and penalize those living on the streets, sees fundamental legal and human rights at stake in the controversy.

“It’s about the illegal destruction of homeless people’s property, it’s about the city not accommodating people’s disabilities in their street operations, the broader categories,” Ms. Friedenbach told The Epoch Times.

The Supreme Court has many issues to consider.

“What the court is doing is looking at whether or not you can arrest people who have no other choice but to be on the streets. The city wants to be able to arrest people who have no other choice, and we think that’s wrong, and would like to see the city work to get people into shelters and housing,” said Ms. Friedenbach.

Arresting the homeless doesn’t solve the problem, she said. In fact, such an approach makes the crisis worse, because those with arrest records find their personal credit and their work prospects ruined.

“There’s nothing about arresting homeless people that addresses the issue. They lose contact with outreach workers, they’re on the public housing waitlist, and then they get kicked off the waitlist,” she said.

Ms. Friedenbach contrasted this approach with one that emphasizes connecting the unhoused to services that can help them and to personnel with specialized training in working with the homeless.

“In the end, it’s about how we can have an effective response to homelessness, using whatever municipal dollars we have available. That’s what we need to move towards, rather than these political approaches that make the problem worse and waste city dollars,” she said.

image-5579418
Homeless people sit at a public transit station near APEC Summit headquarters in downtown San Francisco on Nov. 11, 2023. The worsening situation puts greater strains on municipalities, experts say.

Ms. Friedenbach also takes issue with the notion that the homeless migrate to places such San Francisco and Los Angeles because they are warm most of the year, have relatively generous public services, and have a culture more open to nontraditional lifestyles.

“Some think that that’s how it operates, but people move for very complicated reasons. If you look at homeless people, it’s very similar to other migration patterns—moving for family, for jobs,” she said.

Ms. Friedenbach called such negative assumptions about the homeless a trope that politicians tend to exploit.

“They say, ‘If we do more for the homeless, then more of them will come.’ It lets them off the hook, it creates xenophobia. Politicians try to repeat that over and over again, so that there’s less empathy,” she said.

If the injunction barring San Francisco from arresting the homeless and clearing settlements faces a setback in court, Ms. Friedenbach said her organization is prepared to pursue further action. For now, all eyes are on the Supreme Court as it weighs the Grants Pass case.

Decision to Uphold

If the Supreme Court upholds the Ninth Circuit Court’s ruling in Grants Pass, then its decision will maintain a status quo that cities and towns with ordinances against camping out on sidewalks are likely to resent.

The situation in many municipalities will deteriorate further as a steadily growing homeless population puts ever greater strains on municipal services and more residents express frustration, experts say.

But that’s probably not the decision the highest court will make, believes Mr. Eide.

“Most people are expecting that the Supreme Court will reverse the Ninth Circuit Court’s decision; that it wouldn’t have taken up the case if it weren’t going to revise it somehow,” he said.

image-5579417
Homeless people live on a street in New York on March 24, 2020. Homelessness runs high in New York and in other East Coast cities, according to Mr. Eide. (Eduardo Munoz Alvarez/Getty Images)

Mr. Eide expects wide repercussions, though some parts of the country will see far more dramatic outcomes than others, particularly those with milder climes that attract disproportionate numbers of the unhoused.

“It’s going to have great implications within the Ninth Circuit—that is where America’s unsheltered street homeless problem is concentrated. When you talk about the crisis of street homelessness, the problem of tents everywhere and infectious disease outbreaks, you’re mostly talking about California and other West Coast communities,” Mr. Eide said.

“Yes, homelessness runs high in New York City, and it’s been a problem recently in other East Coast cities, but the problem exists in its truly shameful, spectacle proportions in these West Coast jurisdictions.”

Decision to Toss

If the Supreme Court throws out the Ninth Circuit Court decision on Grants Pass, it will effectively free up municipalities to crack down and to arrest or ticket homeless people who congregate in public without having to have emergency shelter set aside for them all.

While this may give local officials and police significantly more freedom, it will also make them more directly answerable to citizens who are navigating homeless encampments in their neighborhoods.

“One way to think about what this ruling would mean is that politicians can no longer say their hands are tied, and they cannot deal with all the tents, which is what many of them have been saying in recent years,” Mr. Eide stated.

“Some communities, like Portland, Oregon, and Phoenix, Arizona, have tried to work within the existing legal framework, but what you’ve heard a lot is that we’re totally constrained, we would like to do more, we hear the public wants us to do more, but we can’t do anything. So, in a way, the Supreme Court will be calling these politicians’ bluff,” he said.

But Mr. Eide stressed the importance of having some historical perspective on the homelessness issue, and noted that it has been around long before the current court cases.

“When you’re very slow to act, the problem tends to build, and then you’re left with very bad options. If you don’t prevent the numbers from growing, then at a certain point it becomes a question of harm minimization,” said Mr. Eide.

image-5579435

“So, one hopes, this ruling will motivate more state and local leaders to be more proactive about not letting the tents get so completely out of control.”

As complex as the situation may be, Mr. Eide sees little value in the stance that the Ninth Circuit Court has taken, and its ramifications for cities and towns with limited budgets. To ask them to refrain from taking action against encampments unless they can provide shelter for all unhoused persons is not only unrealistic, but can sometimes fuel resentment on the part of one city or town towards another.

“What the Ninth Circuit has said is, I think, just kind of extreme—the idea that you need to ‘house your way’ out of this even if you’re a small community, even if people living on your streets are not even from your community. It’s very awkward, and the results on the streets speak for themselves,” he said.

Public officials in some cities, even those who profess their progressive views, are sometimes leery of providing for other municipalities’ homeless overflows, Mr. Eide observed.

“This often comes up, and I’ve actually heard officials in San Francisco say, ‘Our tax base can’t provide for everyone in California who lives in a tent,’” he said.

Given the likelihood that the Supreme Court ruling will supersede local injunctions and decrees, San Francisco has taken the right course in seeking to pause the legal battle over Judge Ryu’s injunction, believes Zac Clark, executive director of the HomeMore Project, a San Francisco nonprofit devoted to finding solutions to homelessness.

“I agree with San Francisco filing for a Motion for Stay, as the outcome of the Grants Pass case with the Supreme Court could make the matter irrelevant,” Mr. Clark told The Epoch Times.

“Cases like these speak to the irony of trying to address homelessness through multiple layers of bureaucracy, where our dollars and intellect are spent in a courtroom instead of on the streets trying to address the root of the situation.”

San Francisco Mayor London Breed’s office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

“The watchdogs at Judicial Watch discovered documents that reveal how the Obama administration's close coordination with the Mexican government entices Mexicans to hop over the fence and on to the American dole.”  Washington Times

Under Holder’s watch at the DOJ Civil Rights Division, more than half of all the lawyers hired were chosen from four radical, anti-American organizations: the ACLU, National Council of La Raza, NAACP, Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, and the Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights, John Fund and Hans von Spakovsky outlined in their 2014 book, “Obama’s Enforcer: Eric Holder’s Justice Department.”

Barack Obama

During a campaign stop in Missouri five days before Election Day 2008, then-presidential candidate Barack Obama famously said, to thunderous applause: “Now, Mizzou, I just have two words for you tonight: Five days. Five days…. [W]e are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”

Three months earlier, when candidate Obama spoke in July 2008 to the open-borders group, National Council of La Raza, he stated that “together, we won’t just win an election; we will transform this nation.”

The Democrats Create an Alice in the Looking Glass World

Like Alice dropped into an illogical world, I’m looking at the past week and seeing a chaotic, topsy-turvy, irrational series of policies, events, and outcomes. There are many possible examples to choose from. I’ve chosen four: The open border, the inexplicable disparities in the handling of crimes by Democrat district attorneys, the Administration’s song and dance with Iran and UNRWA, and China, and there’s a degree of overlap in some of these.

North of the Border

Millions of people -- mostly military-age men -- from almost every country on the globe are being processed by the Borden Patrol and released with orders to show up for hearings, many not set for several years distant, during which time the Democrats will certainly seek an electoral advantage. Since districting for voting and disbursement of federal funds is based on the number of residents, regardless of their legal status, districts with lots of illegals will get a weighted advantage. Most of the asylum applications are groundless, but most likely, the Democrats will seek amnesty for these millions. President Trump had begun wall construction and set in place policies to stop this. Within 100 days of taking office, Biden took 94 executive actions which smoothed the way for the massive influx of illegal immigrants. Legalizing them will effectively create a one-party state. Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who is now facing impeachment proceedings, worked to make deportation of these people nearly impossible. Elon Musk on X:

“Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas issued written guidance making it clear that: 1. Illegal presence alone is not grounds for deportation. 2. Criminal charges, convictions or gang membership alone are not enough for deportation. You basically have to be a convicted axe murderer to be deported!“

The Supreme Court has made it nearly impossible for states to act when the federal government will not stem the invasion. Jonathan Turley:

[T] his crisis is the result of decades of court rulings expanding executive powers while limiting the ability to challenge those policies. The court’s decisions narrowing standing have been deleterious, limiting those who can challenge unlawful or unconstitutional acts by the federal government.

States such as Texas are absolutely correct that this is a breach of the original understanding with the federal government. The combination of the sweeping preemption by the courts and diminishing enforcement by the agencies has left states as mere observers to their own destruction. It is like watching your house burn down as the fire department works primarily to prevent anyone else from putting it out.

The Biden fire department is claiming that, just as it has the authority to put out fires, it has the authority to let them burn .

Irrational Democrat Law Enforcement

A pack of illegal migrants attacked New York City policemen. Videos captured the assault, and several of the men were arrested. District Attorney Alvin Bragg arranged for them to be released on bail, and they were photographed laughing and flipping off photographers.  Then, using  false names, they persuaded a sympathetic-to-illegals charity to give them bus transportation to California, where they will receive “free health  care, housing, food subsidies, scholarships for illegal aliens in Gavin Newsom’s $ 68-billion-in-the-red state.”  Confronted by a reporter concerning the no-bail policy for illegal criminals, New York's Governor Kathy Hochul suggested they be deported, contrary to sanctuary cities in both states.

Questioned why he chose to arrest and demand $100,000 bail for Daniel Perry, who saved a subway car full of passengers from a violent man threatening them, while at the same time seeking no bail for illegals who beat up cops, Bragg said he lacked evidence to hold them, this despite all the passengers who supported Penny and thanked him, and the assault of law enforcement officers being on videotape. The message is this -- in Bragg’s NYC jurisdiction, we’re going to allow people to brutally attack you with little consequence, and you dare not defend against that.

A congressional aide engaged in anal intercourse in a Capitol hearing room, videotaped it, and made it public. The U.S. Capitol Police declined to charge him, though imprisoned Jacob Chansley and most of the other January 6 defendants engaged in no misuse of government property when they walked through rope lines in the Capitol and engaged in friendly exchanges with the Capitol Police while there. Instead of prosecuting felonies in the District of Columbia, the U.S. attorney for D.C. is still directing massive amounts of manpower to track down January 6 trespassers who reside around the country to prosecute them.

The District of Columbia is the site now of a really horrendous crime wave, including many brutal carjackings. The D.C. attorney general Brian Schwalb claims we can’t stop this by arresting the young men engaged in these crimes.

Fani Willis, who seeks to convict Donald Trump under some notion of RICO, now admits that she has a “personal relationship” with the man she hired to prosecute the case, a man with no experience in such prosecutions. Her paramour’s friends bankrolled her campaign and, in return, received lucrative contracts, and she is charged with having misused federal funds.

Iran and UNRWA

Either Biden is stupid or he thinks we are. After repeated aggression by Iranian proxies, including the killing of three U.S. servicemen and women, the Administration said it was going to take countermeasures. It announced six days before acting where it was targeting and unsurprisingly, by the time it did so, the targets certainly had moved to safety. This is in line with its policies of giving Iran a free pass.

While Robert Malley was placed under FBI investigation and was removed from office as Biden’s Iran envoy, the administration has not deviated from the never-disclosed policy he set in 2016 while he was with the non-governmental agency, the International Crisis Group -- a Memorandum of Understanding with the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Biden will not enforce sanctions against Iran, has instituted no arms embargo against Iranian drone purchases, and has not interfered while Iran builds up its nuclear arsenal. Those drones Iran purchased are apparently the very ones the Iranian proxy Houthis are firing at vessels in the Red Sea. We keep announcing that we are shooting down those drones, but it’s a costly “victory.” The drones are worth about $50 thousand each, and the cost of destroying them before they damage our ships is in the millions. Certainly, reason suggests it’s time to destroy the drone launch pads and launchers and abandon Malley’s plan.

As to UNRWA, in the face of its proven collaboration with Hamas and participation in the attacks on Israel, a significant number of countries and the European Union have announced suspension of further contributions to the organization. Biden did as well. But -- hold on a minute -- we only suspended $300,000 of our contributions. So far this year, we have contributed $121 million dollars to UNRWA, doubtless a good deal of it after October 7. Remember, Trump suspended contributions to UNRWA, and Biden reinstated them.

The Great Afghan Folly

Regarding our disastrous fast-footing out of Afghanistan, leaving a fortune in military equipment behind, a new Department of Defense IG report indicates that, in 2022 and 2023, we spent a total of $5.1 billion in fiscal years 2022 and 2023 to house, feed, transport, and resettle Afghan evacuees, and here’s the kicker: the beneficiary of all our labors, lost troops, and fortune expended in Afghanistan will be – guess who -- China.

“The Taliban has asked to join China’s Belt & Road initiative and has already signed contracts with China allowing the Communist regime to drill for oil and gas in Afghanistan and to mine lithium and copper in the mineral-rich country” per a Pentagon IG report.“

I wish, like Alice, we could all realize this was some kind of weird dream, but I know it isn’t.

Open Borders are Biden’s Pandora’s Box

A nation’s border lies at the intersection of domestic and foreign policy. How a country manages its border, immigration, trade, and related policies informs foreign and domestic stakeholders about governance of the country. It’s a reflection of those that govern and those that elect them.

President Biden opened the border the minute he took office. This decision is a detriment to the American people. Biden’s immigration policy is a chaotic, costly, and confusing mess. He chose to allow human trafficking, criminal import of drugs and prostitution, and the entry of terrorists and Chinese citizens who are positioned to wreak havoc within the country. Joe Biden is blithely undermining the security and interests of the people he swore to protect.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas proclaimed in a congressional hearing that the border is secure. In testimony to the Homeland Security Committee, FBI Director Christopher Wray confirmed the security of the country is in jeopardy saying, “the threats that come from the other side of the border are affecting every state.” To fix the problem, President Biden requires empowerment, saying, “I’ve done all I can do. Just give me the power.” The position of the federal government is as clear as Rio Grande mud.

Biden realizes his re-election is jeopardized by his immigration policy. He desperately wants Congress to pass a new law hoping it will provide political cover for his bizarre open border policy. If the law is passed Biden will tell the American people that Congress finally listened to his wise council and passed a wonderful new law empowering him to do his job. If Congress doesn’t pass an immigration law, Biden will blame Republicans for the invasion of immigrants and accuse them of playing politics forcing him to leave the border open.

The Mexican border is difficult to police, but President Trump did a good job of securing it. The same laws that render Biden powerless were in place for Trump. Biden and Democrat politicians are frantically looking for a message they can deliver that will absolve them of their inane border policy. Republicans should take a step back and watch Democrats attempt to put the lid back on the can of worms they opened.

Biden proposed a new immigration law when he took office. It includes:

  • A roadmap to citizenship for undocumented individuals
  • Immigrant and refugee integration and citizenship
  • Protect workers from exploitation and improve the employment verification process.
  • Embracing diversity

Biden proposes an open border with a shortcut to citizenship.

Senator James Lankford has the unenviable position of negotiating an immigration law with Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Democrats want to put the country on a yellow brick road to a new demographic they’ve schemed to achieve for a generation. Lankford said in an interview, “We all have an oath to the Constitution, and we have a commitment to say we're going to do whatever we can to be able to secure the border." Senator Lankford and Congress have no obligation to pass a new law. BidenMayorkas, and Lankford all took an oath to “defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic.” The United States has an immigration law that Biden refuses to enforce. Biden has failed to uphold his oath of office.

Governor Greg Abbott of Texas is doing his best to protect his state’s border with Mexico. In January of 2023, he had a letter hand delivered to President Biden saying, “you have violated your constitutional obligation to defend the states against invasion through faithful execution of federal laws.” Last month Governor Abbott sent another letter to the President saying, “James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and the other visionaries who wrote the U.S. Constitution foresaw that States should not be left to the mercy of a lawless president who does nothing to stop external threats like cartels smuggling millions of illegal immigrants across the border.” Governor Abbott has established that an invasion is underway and Biden has done nothing to stop it. Biden has had three years to do his job. He has failed.

Abbott is now taking steps for the State of Texas to do the President’s job. “I have already declared an invasion under Article I, § 10, Clause 3 to invoke Texas’s constitutional authority to defend and protect itself. That authority is the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary.” The Supreme Court has not ruled in favor of the Biden Administration or ordered Texas to remove material used to fortify its border. The Supreme Court merely vacated an appeal, sending the decision back to a lower court. Abbott’s actions will gather momentum, likely forcing the Supreme Court to decide the matter. Texas may lose in court, but its case is clear.

Twenty-five states stand with Texas. New Mexico, Arizona, and California, which also have a border with Mexico, do not. Biden’s open border is an affront to all states no matter their proximity to the border. All Americans are damaged by the invasion identified by Governor Abbott. Democrat politicians whine while requesting money, but their states and cities remain open sanctuaries to illegal entrants.

It wouldn’t be prudent for Republicans to support a Biden-Schumer immigration law. If Biden must have a new law, the House of Representatives has passed a bill which will secure the border. The Senate can approve this bill so that Biden can sign it into law. The law could be renamed The More Power to Joe Biden Act. A better solution is to let the American people decide the issue. The elections this year should be a referendum on border security. The cost of open borders to Americans is a half-trillion dollars and will only grow if Biden and Democrats remain in office. If Americans want their tax dollars spent on wasted resources and open border chaos, they should vote for Democrats. You get what you pay for.
