The Consequences of Catch and Release at the Border
Statement of Jessica M. Vaughan before the U.S. House Subcommittee on National Security, the Border and Foreign Affairs, February 15, 2024

Excerpt: The mass migration crisis instigated by the Biden administration’s misguided immigration policies has caused incalculable harm to American communities. The mass catch and release policies have led to the release of more than three million illegal migrants, damaged the integrity of our
immigration system, and exposed Americans to new national security and public safety threats.

By Steven A. Camarota and Karen Zeigler, February 13, 2024
Excerpt: The total number of U.S.-born and immigrants of working age (16 to 64), both sexes and all education levels not working — unemployed or not in the labor force — was 59 million in the fourth quarter of 2023. This is an enormous pool of potential workers to draw upon.

There’s a long list of things that need to be done to regain control after three years of chaos, but high up on that list is to stop paying to make it worse.

Yes, Mayorkas Is in Fact Breaking the Law
By Phillip Linderman
The American Conservative, February 16, 2024
Excerpt: Conservatives are rightfully celebrating the House’s Tuesday vote in favor of articles of impeachment against Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The coming trial of the scofflaw DHS secretary is far from a waste of time, even if the Democrat-controlled Senate is already looking to block it. It sends a message to frustrated Americans: This administration is breaking the law.

Excerpt: To be clear, employment for both groups has rebounded significantly since the depths of the COVID-19 recession in 2020. But the number of US-born workers has not returned to the level it was before the pandemic, while immigrant employment (legal and illegal together) has ballooned.

CBP Releases January Border Numbers — Early

Excerpt: The five Texas Border Patrol sectors — Rio Grande Valley (RGV), Laredo, Del Rio, Big Bend, and El Paso — accounted for just over 44,000 of those apprehensions, or approximately 35 percent. By contrast, the four sectors west of El Paso — Tucson, Yuma (Ariz.), El Centro (Calif.), and San Diego tabbed 80,000-plus apprehensions.

Senate Bill Wouldn’t End ‘Catch-and-Release’ — It Would Perpetuate It
By Andrew R. Arthur
Excerpt: A main selling point for the (apparently doomed) Senate border bill is that it would end “catch-and-release”. The bill not only wouldn’t have done that, it would instead have perpetuated catch-and-release by making it next to impossible for any future administration to halt the border crisis by detaining border migrants.

Boston Families Furious as City Kicks Black Children Out of Community Center to House Biden’s Migrants

Local families in the predominantly black Roxbury neighborhood of Boston are furious after the city shut down the local community center to instead use it to house more of President Joe Biden’s illegal border crossers.

Roxbury’s Melnea A. Cass Recreational Community Center, which was once a meeting place for Little League ball players, volleyball games, and other sports and community events, has now been dedicated to rows of cots for illegal border crossers, CBS, WBZ-TV Boston reported.

WBZ interviewed pre-teen Jeremiah Rodriguez who showed up at the community center on Feb. 17 under the mistaken impression that his community baseball team was using the facility for batting practice. He was devastated to find out his community center was now closed to him.

“We usually practice. They were closed,” young Jeremiah told the outlet.

Jeremiah’s dad, Yrbin Rodriguez, added, “It’s hard. I didn’t know the immigrants inside. It’s okay to help, I don’t think that’s the place to do it because kids and families go and enjoy.”

But thanks to Biden and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, the chiefly black community has lost the facility that was once the center of the community. Roxbury is nearly 57 percent black, almost 30 percent Latino, and only six percent white, in a neighborhood that has a median income far under Boston as a whole ($30,654 for Roxbury, $52,433 for Boston overall), according to city of Boston data.

Black community activist Clifton Braithwaite was disgusted with the city’s action.

Braithwaite said folks in the neighborhood are being given short shrift as the city favors Biden’s flood of illegal aliens.

“We care about our immigrant brothers and sisters, but there has to be a fair balance. How can you tell people that was down at Mass Cass for over ten years, there was no money for them, and now you found money,” Braithwaite told WBZ.

The city’s act of taking the Roxbury community center away from the black community even brought about a shocked post from X chief and Tesla boss Elon Musk.

Boston is not the only big, Democrat-led city shutting down community centers, schools, and parks and turning them over to Biden’s flood of illegals.

Local outrage also broke out in Chicago late last year when radical leftist Mayor Brandon Johnson moved to house Biden’s illegal immigrants in the Galewood neighborhood’s Amundsen Park Field House.

The shutdown plans soon brought massive protests from folks from Galewood and other Chicago residents.

Similar shutdowns occurred in New York City when Mayor Eric Adams began shutting down resources for residents and turning them over to illegal aliens.

Fmr. Obama FBI Official: Terror Watch List Numbers at Border Over 10x What Bothered Me when I Was in Office

On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” Tim Healy, who served as Director of the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center Director under President Barack Obama, stated that the number of people on the terror watch list encountered on the border has caused him “sleepless nights” and the numbers are well above what concerned him when he ran the Screening Center.

Healy said, “[F]rom my perspective at the Terrorist Screening Center, the last three years, you’ve had 336 known or suspected terrorists arrested between entry points in the southern border. If you take the past four years, fiscal year ’17, ’18, ’19, and ’20, you had 14. So, that caused us, from my perspective, sleepless nights.”

He added, “[W]hen I was the director of the Terrorist Screening Center I had a program, I called it the gold program. And every day I was briefed on the encounters, we averaged 100 encounters a day, and I’d have them highlight in gold the ones that weren’t pending FBI cases. We’d average one or two a month. So, maximum, 12 to 24. And I was concerned about those 24, because those weren’t — those were encountered in the U.S., typically by law enforcement officers, unknown to the FBI. That’s somebody that’s on the watch list unknown to us. So, I was concerned about those 24 and made sure the FBI was working those cases. Now, there [are] 336. And then, plus the gotaways, so, it’s a significant problem.”

NYC Mayor Eric Adams Reverses Plan to Give Luxury Harlem Condos to Migrants After Public Outcry

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has reversed a plan to give an abandoned luxury Harlem condominium complex to migrants after significant community outcry.

“Adams’ change of heart came during a surprise appearance at a St. Nicholas House Resident Association meeting packed with dozens of residents furious over the city’s plan for a building development on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd once marketed as upscale housing,” reported the New York Post.

“The 35-story building was quietly slated to become a homeless shelter that could potentially house migrants — a plan that was only revealed to the community this week when some neighborhood residents saw workers bringing bed frames and mattresses inside,” it added.

Adams finally turned his plan around last Thursday night after public pressure.

“I told the team, ‘Find out what’s going on here. We’re not moving folks into a brand new building when you have long-term needs in a community. That’s not gonna happen,’” Adams said. “You will not have migrants and asylum seekers in that property.”

The site will instead house New York families dealing with homelessness.

“Despite the developer’s initial plans for market rate condominiums, development had been stalled and this building left indefinitely empty– it would not have advanced as luxury housing. Instead of sitting vacant, this site will serve as high-quality transitional housing for long-term New York City families with children experiencing homelessness,” a spokesperson for the NYC Department of Social Services confirmed to CBS New York.

“We will be working with an experienced not-for-profit provider to help these families stabilize their lives and ultimately move into permanent housing. As we have always done, we will continue to maintain open lines of communication and work closely with the community every step of the way to ensure that we are collaboratively working to provide critical services for our neighbors in need.”

The development, originally billed as a luxury complex, has sat vacant for decades.

“You are the mayor. We do not want to hear excuses,” one Harlem resident shouted at Adams.

“We have a dearth of affordable housing we’re being priced out of the community … The lack of respect is absolutely appalling,” Harlem resident Regina Smith said.

“These apartments could be used for us to go into,” Leslie Johnson said.

Illegal Alien Accused of Killing ‘Loving’ Wisconsin Father of Three Daughters

An illegal alien who should previously have been deported from the United States is accused of killing 35-year-old Steven Nasholm, a husband and father of three daughters, in Rusk County, Wisconsin, in late January.

Jorge Sanchez-Tzanhua, a 22-year-old illegal alien from Mexico, has been arrested and charged with drunk driving and felony homicide after Nasholm died following a crash in Rusk County allegedly caused by Sanchez-Tzanhua as a result of drunk driving.

According to Rusk County police, on Jan. 30, Sanchez-Tzanhua was driving drunk in an SUV when he crashed into Nasholm, who was driving a semi-truck.

Nasholm died from injuries he suffered in the accident.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials confirmed to Breitbart News that Sanchez-Tzanhua is an illegal alien from Mexico. Reports indicate that Sanchez-Tzanhua crossed the southern border a few years ago before making it to Wisconsin.

According to Barron News-Shield, Sanchez-Tzanhua should have been deported to Mexico by ICE agents when he was first convicted in Wisconsin of drunk driving in early 2023v.

“Day in and day out, we see the tragic consequences of illegal immigration in America, and the Biden administration’s open border policies have only made it worse,” Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) told Breitbart News of Nasholm’s case. “How many more Americans have to die before Democrats secure the border?”

Nasholm leaves behind his three daughters, Anna Mae Brekke, Alaina “Rae” Lauritsen “Nasholm,” and Nora Lee Nasholm, as well as his wife Stephanie McBain.

“Steve was a loving father and husband who was quick-witted and never refrained from sharing jokes (with a disregard for appropriateness!),” his obituary reads. “He loved tractors, bear hunting with his hounds, driving semis and motorcycles, and fixing lawnmowers and ATVs.”

Nasholm’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to support his wife and daughters.

Sanchez-Tzanhua remains in Rusk County Jail and ICE agents have placed a detainer on him so that if he is released at any time, he will be transferred to their custody.
