Has This Present Moment Set Black Americans Back a Half-Century?
The damage the Left is perpetrating may be mortal.

According to the make-believe world of the left, we are experiencing a great moment in American racial history. For the first time, the story goes, more whites than ever are coming to realize how racist America is, how racist cops are and how systemically racist everything in America is. Only now do many Americans understand just how racist Uncle Ben, Aunt Jemima, Ulysses Grant, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, "whitening" agents, meritocracy, Western culture, Christianity, jailing Blacks and the NFL are. The bestselling book in America is about alleged "white fragility" — the term for any rational response to the irrational charge that all whites are racist.
All this is supposed to be good for America's blacks.
But none of it is. In fact, it is all destructive.
Take the movement to defund police departments and the incessant charges of "police brutality" and "racist police." Only those who don't care about Blacks other than using them to advance their power — Democrats and the rest of the left, both black and white — argue this war against the police is good for blacks. Already the increase in the number of blacks murdered, not to mention injured, is reaching levels unseen in decades. And there is every reason to assume, as police pull back from high-crime areas, it will get worse.
Take the left-wing mantra that all whites are racist. If I wanted to obstruct black progress, and especially damage black children, I couldn't come up with a more effective idea. To believe from early childhood that you walk through life held in contempt by all of your fellow citizens who are white is to walk through life with much more than a chip on your shoulder. It is more like a heavy boulder.
It means that you will walk through life with two paralyzing burdens: anger and victimhood. Either one is enough to ruin your life. Combined they're devastating. It gives one an idea of how cynical the left is that it would want to cultivate both of these life-ruining emotions in as many blacks as possible.
Anger and victimhood not only ruin the individual's life but also destroy one's relationships with others. Everyone who has an angry individual in their family knows not only how unhappy that person is but also how much havoc they wreak on the rest of the family. The same holds true for the relative who sees him or herself as a perpetual victim. Such people are both miserable and miserable to be around. And since victimhood is a major cause of evil — people who see themselves as victims usually think they are not nearly as bound by moral rules as others are — they are more likely to hurt others.
The "protesters" who destroy and loot think their victim status allows them to destroy and loot. The man identified as the president of the greater New York Black Lives Matter, Hawk Newsome, recently told Fox News: "If this country doesn't give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it. All right? And I could be speaking ... figuratively. I could be speaking literally. It's a matter of interpretation."
In a report yesterday on a police shooting of a robber who resisted arrest and reached for an object in his waistband, the San Diego Union-Tribune quoted a protest organizer: "If this young man was robbing, that means his state and his government failed to provide him with the resources he needs." When you feel you are a victim, you are allowed to rob.
Take the constant, often absurd, charges of racism at the most benign comments. If you say, for example, that you see nothing wrong with the picture of Uncle Ben on a box of rice, you will be accused of racism. As a result, most whites understand they can no longer speak truthfully or from the heart in the presence of a black American. It is hard to imagine a worse recipe for genuine relationships between the races. Whereas the great majority of whites, and even most blacks, thought white-black relations were good and improving when Barack Obama assumed office, a minority of both groups think so today.
Take the assault on merit-based advancement in the name of racial equality. Will this help or hinder blacks? It will obviously help some blacks in the short run. But over the long term, telling any group they needn't meet a universal standard of excellence can only harm that group — not to mention harm the way their success will be viewed by others. Moreover, it is difficult to imagine a more condescending view of a group than to argue that standards must be lowered for them to succeed.
The damage the left is doing to America may be mortal. When it is widely deemed OK to destroy statues of Abraham Lincoln, society is experiencing a moral earthquake which may eventually destroy it. But the damage the left is doing to so many blacks — to their moral compass, to their happiness and to their relations with their white fellow citizens — is not in the realm of "may do." It is done.

18 dead, 47 wounded in Chicago weekend shootings
Four children were among the weekend’s victims, including a 1-year-old boy fatally shot in Englewood, a 10-year-old girl killed in Logan Square and a 17-year-old boy killed in Humboldt Park.
Do we really need to go more in depth here? But this is the bleak farce of the BLM movement.
Four children were among 65 people shot across Chicago this weekend, 18 of them fatally. Three of the children were killed.
This is the stuff ignored by lefties who wail over their killers instead. Say their names. Rest in power.
A 10-year-old girl was fatally shot Saturday night when a stray bullet hit her inside a Logan Square home on the Northwest Side. Lina Nunez was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead hours later, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office
Nunez. My bad. Her life doesn't matter.
Earlier that afternoon, a 1-year-old boy was killed and his mother was wounded in Englewood on the South Side.
The woman and her child were driving home from a laundromat just after 2 p.m. when a gunman pulled up alongside them in another vehicle and opened fire near 60th and Halsted streets, according to police. The child was struck once in the chest, while his mother, 22, was grazed on the head. She drove them to St. Bernard Hospital, where the child died. The mother was later taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center for treatment and her condition was stabilized.
The medical examiner’s office identified the boy as Sincere A. Gaston. He lived in South Chicago.
Shouldn't his life matter, or is this like one of those Planned Parenthood exemptions?
The current HeyJackass toll is 533 people shot, 87 of them fatally, in the Windy City in June.
If you're keeping track of these things, none of the 87 can breathe anymore.
That defunding police thing is going really well.
Meanwhile, the black police boss of Chicago has some thoughts on the subject.
"I struggle to make sense of the reckless gun violence that continues to take the lives of our young people throughout the city," Supt. Brown said. "What I want to talk about are the guns that we weren't able to get to on time. The guns and the cowards, these evil bastards, behind those guns, that caused the senseless loss of life over the past weekend."
Superintendent Brown said violent offenders need to be held in jail longer.
"They shouldn't get out early," Brown said. "If they get three years do three years. New York did this. LA did this and they are just as liberal as Chicago. Chicago can do this. We can have under 300 murders."
It's okay. We've got better ideas in Chicago.
The group called My Block, My Hood, My City along with several activists and non-profits held a news conference this morning to talk about Hashtag "Hit the Hood" which will start on Friday at 5 p.m. in several different neighborhoods.
In an effort to push this forward, they plan to award $50,000 in peace grants to help any person, block or organization that wants to find creative solutions to curb violence.
The goal is to fund up to $5,000 dollars per request and assist in providing resources for #HitTheHood.
Here's a very creative solution. Lock up criminals. Don't let them out.
Stop and frisk gang members. Use broken windows policing. Flood any area with rising violence with police patrols. Deploy undercover units. You know, the stuff that has historically worked and that's now being banned.

Chicago Pastor Calls for End to City's ‘No Snitch’ Policy After 43 Shot, 13 Killed, Including One Year-Old Child
New Beginnings Church of Chicago Pastor Corey Brooks called for a three-step response to the violence in his city that took the lives of 13 people, including a one year-old child, last weekend.
First, his community needs to end its “no snitch” policy, Pastor Brooks said in a Monday interview with Fox & Friends First:
“Well, we’re definitely not doing enough. We have to take some responsibility ourselves. In our community, we have a ‘no snitch’ policy and we have to get rid of that policy – that’s the first thing.”
Next, citizens who know the streets and are able to discourage violence need to become more active, and more mentorship programs need to be immediately instituted, the pastor said:
“And, the second thing we have to do is get violence interrupters and violence intervention actively engaged in the lives of these young men and on the streets.
“And, then the third thing we need to do is get mentoring programs really going early on, if we’re ever going to defeat this violent surge that we see every single day in our community.”

“We have to get more violence interrupters involved, violence engagers, those individuals who know about the streets, those individuals who know the shooters. We’ve got to get them involved, we’ve got to get them engaged and we need to do it immediately. And, the more we can get the better. We can’t wait on police officers to do all of the work for us. We have to engage our community and do a lot of the work ourselves.
“We do need all hands on deck, but we need to get everybody more engaged, because every single day we’re experiencing violence in the city of Chicago and it’s very, very disheartening.”
More than 60 People Shot, 16 Killed, over Weekend in Mayor Lightfoot’s Chicago
More than 60 people were shot, 16 fatally, over the course of the weekend in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago.
On Sunday morning Breitbart News reported at least 20 had been shot in a 24-hour time-frame running from Friday at 4 p.m. to Saturday at 4 p.m. Seven people were killed during that interval.
On Monday morning, NBC Chicago reported the total number of shooting victims was over 60 for the weekend, with 16 people dead.
The Chicag0 Sun-Timesreported one of the weekend’s fatalities was a 10-year-old girl who was “inside a Logan Square home on the Northwest Side” when she was shot in the head by a stray bullet. She was shot at 9:40 p.m. Saturday and pronounced dead just hours later.
A one-year-old boy riding in the car with his mom was also shot and killed Saturday. He and his mother were driving back from the laundromat when a car pulled up next to them and opened fire. The mother was shot as well, but her wounds were not life-threatening.
At least 100 people were shot in Mayor Lightfoot’s Chicago last weekend, which was Father’s Day Weekend, and 14 of them succumbed to their wounds.
On June 21, 2020, Breitbart News reported at least 56 people were shot in Chicago by Sunday morning of Father’s Day Weekend alone. Nine of those shooting victims died.
More than 30 were shot, two fatally, in Chicago the weekend before that and 35 were shot, five fatally, the weekend prior.
The Sun-Timesreported 85 shot, 24 fatally, in Chicago during the last weekend of May 2020.
