WALL STREET-OWNED JOE BIDEN STRUGGLES TO BUILD HIS TOXIC SWAMP OF CRONIES, TECH BILLIONAIRES AND PARASITE LAWYERS

Biden staggers toward the White House

President-elect Joe Biden gave a 15-minute nationally televised speech Monday night to mark the occasion of his official victory in the Electoral College.

It is unprecedented for a president-elect to make a speech on such an occasion. For most of modern American history, the vote in the Electoral College—comprised of the electors appointed through the popular vote in the separate states—has been fairly routine. This began to change with the election in 2000, when George W. Bush lost the popular vote to Al Gore and would have lost the vote in the Electoral College as well if the Supreme Court had not intervened to halt the recounting of votes in Florida. In the 2016 elections, Trump lost the popular vote by nearly three million but was able to secure an Electoral College victory due to the distribution of his vote in the states.

The present situation goes far beyond what happened in 2000. Here, Trump, who was massively defeated in both the popular vote and the Electoral College, is engaged in an ongoing effort to nullify the election and overturn the results.

Biden began his remarks by hailing the Electoral College vote as a completion of the election process and a major victory for democracy. “The will of the people prevailed,” he said. “The democracy pushed, tested, threatened, proved to be resilient, true and strong.”

If it was Biden’s intention to reassert confidence in American democracy, however, not only his demeanor but his words proved the opposite.

First, his speech was characterized by its extreme defensiveness. If American democracy is so strong, why does the candidate who won the election by seven million votes have to make a speech to defend the legitimacy of his victory and his coming administration?

Second, Biden’s own account of the process that led to the vote in the Electoral College underscored not the strength and resiliency but the extreme fragility of what remains of democratic forms of rule.

Biden noted that the Trump campaign has sought to bully and intimidate election officials and ordinary election workers around the country. “It was truly remarkable because so many of these patriotic Americans were subject to so much enormous political pressure, verbal abuse, even threats of physical violence,” he said. “We owe these public servants a debt of gratitude,” he said. “Our democracy survived because of them.”

The implication is that, if it were not for a handful of election officials, the effort by Trump to overturn the elections would have been successful.

Biden then referred to Trump’s unprecedented effort to overturn the election results through legal challenges, heard by more than 80 judges at the state and federal level, including the US Supreme Court. The outcome, he said, proved the “integrity of our judicial system.”

If Trump was relying on the Supreme Court as the final arbiter of the election, however, it was because of its role in handing the election to Bush in 2000. Indeed, Trump has relied on the arguments advanced by Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia at the time—that the population does not have the right to vote for president—in his own efforts to overturn the results two decades later.

Biden’s criticism of Trump was itself tentative and evasive. He noted that Trump led an effort to “wipe out the votes of more than 20 million Americans” and that this position was “so extreme, we’ve never seen it before, a position that refused to respect the will of the people, the rule of law, and to honor the Constitution.”

In a manner ingrained in the culture of American bourgeois politics, Biden avoided bluntly stating the obvious: The president of the United States has been engaged in an ongoing fascistic conspiracy to establish a personalist dictatorship.

Nor did Biden dwell on the fact that the Republican Party has been complicit in all of this. While referring to the “stunning” decision of 17 Republican attorneys general and 126 Republican members of Congress to support a Texas lawsuit that asked the US Supreme Court to overturn the election, Biden moved on to declare that he was “pleased” by “the number of my former Republican colleagues in the Senate who have acknowledged already the results of the Electoral College.”

“I’m convinced,” Biden said, “we can work together for the good of the nation on many subjects.” It was necessary, he added, to “lower the temperature.” That is, a future Biden administration will collaborate closely with the party that has been involved in a conspiracy to overturn his own election victory.

While Biden claimed that his Electoral College victory would convince congressional Republicans to acknowledge the result of the vote, Trump and his closest aides and a large section of Republican officials continue their refusal to concede. Trump declared even before the day’s proceedings were completed that his fight to stay in office was not over. His top fascist White House aide, Stephen Miller, is proposing to name “alternate electors” in the battleground states who would cast entirely illegal ballots for the president.

Biden concluded his speech with a brief reference to the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 300,000 people in the United States. “My heart goes out to each of you,” he declared, “who have fallen on hard times through no fault of your own.” He did not, however, suggest that anything had to be done about the catastrophe that is spreading throughout the country. Everything will be solved with his modified version of the Catholic Catechism: “Where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is darkness, light.”

While Biden preaches “unity,” the reality is that social tensions in the United States have reached a point where they are short-circuiting the safety switches of democracy. A substantial section of the American ruling class is turning to dictatorship.

The causes lie not in Trump himself. He is but an instrument and expression of a deeper disease. Even if Trump is not successful now, the precedent has been set. And he is elaborating a “stab in the back” theory that the election was stolen as the basis for mobilizing fascistic forces as the shock troops of the financial oligarchy.

Biden’s comments were followed by the remarks of the talking heads in the media who counseled that Republicans should “do the right thing” and accept defeat, as if what is involved is a children’s game and not an attempt to overturn democratic forms of rule.

As for Biden himself, wheezing and coughing throughout his remarks, he seemed an apt symbol of the crisis that he sought desperately to cover over. He is presently assembling a right-wing administration, staffed with proven defenders of the military-intelligence apparatus and the ruling class. It would be the height of folly to expect such a party and such a government to defend democratic rights against the fascist threat represented by Trump.

The principal concern of the Democrats is the growth of opposition to the profit system, deepening economic and social inequality, and the homicidal back-to-work and back-to-school campaign being waged by the entire political establishment and both corporate-controlled parties.

American democracy is not “true and strong;” it is at death’s door. The defense of democratic rights is inextricably connected to the independent political mobilization of the working class against capitalism and the entire rotting edifice of bourgeois rule.

An angry, coughing Joe Biden wants you to know he's a 'legitimate' president, winning his election 'free and fair'

It's hard to say what was worth noting more in Biden's first grand speech to the American people upon his purported Electoral College victory: his desperate bid to convince Americans he was legitimately elected or his constant croaking and coughing.

Here's the 12-and-some-minute speech:

Here's a transcript.

In common to both, neither of these two sorry things inspired confidence.

First, take the coughing.  Biden coughed his way through the speech, his voice hoarse, hacking, choking, pausing, and looking narrow-eyed and mean when at the 8:18 to 8:20 point, he spoke the word "heal."

On Twitter, all they could say was that Biden must have COVID.  That may or may not be true, given that right now, there's considerable seasonal flu (much of it falsely identified as "COVID" to get the numbers up), and more to the point, Biden hides and conceals information about apparently badly deteriorating health.

According to the Daily Mail:

Social media users took to Twitter to voice their worry and crack jokes with one user saying 'Drink some water, Joe. You’re scaring us.'

One Twitter user asked 'Does Biden need a COVID test?' and another chimed in 'Someone get Biden some Robitussin stat!!!'

In a livestream after his speech Biden insisted a minor cold was to blame saying: 'Thank you, I have a little bit of a cold, I'm sorry, but look, you know, you did it, you did it, not a joke.'

What kind of bad-imitation-of-Obama explanation of "you did it" is that?

Biden has had a major array of health problems, and most of them quite visible to television viewers.  His growing senility is item number one, slurring and garbling his speech, talking out of turn, and misidentifying so many things.  And most recently, he broke his foot, claiming he somehow got out of the shower and chased his dog, in what sounds like a signal that his bones are in a very fragile state.  He's also in the past been hospitalized for two aneurysms, one of which ruptured and took him out of service, and later was seen with blood seeping from his eye, all during times of pressures of high office and high office campaigning.  That's also been accompanied by deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.  He's also given reason to think his stamina is very low, having ended most of his "fix-is-in" campaign days as early as 9:00 A.M.

Sound like a guy in the peak of health?  Well, he got a physician to sign off on him, claiming he was in the peak of health, as if these things can't be fixed or at least massaged by pols.  he hasn't released his medical records to provide some kind of proof, and as far as Biden is concerned, an "expert" said it, so that makes it true, as if doctors can't have partisan biases like anyone else.

And speaking of "experts" and obedience to authority, the content of Biden's speech, focusing desperately on wanting to be accepted as a legitimate president, something even Obama must be laughing about, suggested something there, too, was way off.

Seriously, this was his big first speech, accepting the result of the votes of the Electoral College, and instead of saying "thank you very much" and talking about all the good things he wanted to accomplish, Biden instead focused on claims that the election was all free and fair and he was the legitimate president and therefore worthy of respect.  It was pathetic.  He began (emphasis mine):

Good evening, my fellow Americans. Over the past few weeks, officials in each state, commonwealth, and district, without regard to party or political preference have certified their winning candidate. Today, the members of the Electoral College representing the certified winner, cast their votes for President and Vice President of the United States in an act just as old as our nation itself. And once again in America, the rule of law, our Constitution and the will of the people prevailed. Our democracy pushed, tested, threatened, proved to be resilient, true and strong. The Electoral College votes which occurred today effect the fact that even in the face of a public health crisis unlike anything we’ve experienced in our lifetime, the people voted. They voted in record numbers. More Americans voted this year than have ever voted in the history of the United States of America. Over 155 million Americans were determined to have their voices heard and their votes counted. In the start of this pandemic, this crisis, many were wondering how many Americans would actually vote at all. But those fears proved to be unfounded. We saw something very few predicted, even thought possible, the biggest voter turnout in the history of the United States of America, a number so big that this election now ranks as the clearest demonstration of the true will of the American people, one of the most amazing demonstrations of civic duty we’ve ever seen in our country.

Joe Biden : (04:09)
It should be celebrated, not attacked. More than 81 million of those votes were casts for me and Vice President-elect Harris. That too is a record. More than any ticket has received in the history of America.

Note his emphasis on "certified" as his first bow to "experts."  Nothing to him, it seems, is manifest, as it would be to a normal president-elect; he needs to whip out the "certified" as though he's talking about the validity of a used car that he bought.

Memo to Joe: If you have spend your first grand speech to the American people to tell us you're legit, you aren't.

And that bears more note, because later down in the speech, he listed all the experts he could think of to "prove" that he won the election — Republican governors, Republican judges, flawed recounts with zero signature matches, along with low-level Democratic political machine operatives and revoltingly praised electoral officials, the ones who wheeled out the suitcases after dark, cheered the throwing out of GOP election-observers, and put paper over their windows to prevent any viewing of their vote-"counting."

In Biden's argument, if a politically appointed blue-state judge said an election was free and fair, well, then, how could it possibly not be?  Is a "plata o plomo"–threatened Republican-appointed judge the same?  Well then, even better.

Never mind the witness testimony presented in legislatures about multiple countings of ballots, ballots with no creases, trans-state transport of ballots to be counted in two states, the multiple ballots mailed, the dead people votes, the counties with more ballots than registered voters, and the strange spike in Biden votes from four big Democrat-ruled cities that happened in the dead of night just after Republican observers were ordered to leave.

As for Republican governors, Biden would have you forget there's a such thing as RINO and that the distinct possibility exists that some were threatened and intimidated — and that some were cowards who didn't want to rock the boat among all the political machinery in their home states.  Who cares?  Hain't they got the title?  The title makes it legit.

Meanwhile, he says nothing about the statistical anomalies: that Biden won without Florida or Ohio?  That gargantuan numbers of ballots had just Biden filled in? That Biden won the presidency with well less than 90% of the Black vote? That Biden, who couldn't draw 100 people to his campaign rallies, somehow proved more popular than President Obama? (Someone be sure to tell that to Obama and see what he says.) Or that gas was less than $3 a gallon, a very reliable presidential election indicator? Or that Biden had some curiously missing coattails, and a red wave nearly toppled Nancy Pelosi's Democrat-led House and thus far, held the Senate? No Republican seats were lost, yet somehow, all those pro-red-wave voters desperate to throw out their Democratic congresscritter, all wanted Biden, not Trump. And this doesn't even get into the issue of Dominion Voting Systems and its Smartmatic machines, the very machines whose technology was developed in Venezuela, the nation which "elected" socialist Hugo Chavez multiple times in a miasma of well-proven fraud, starting from 2004?

But according to Biden, having the word of experts, the full administrative state, means everything is right, and he's a legitimate president even to the people because someone else, someone coopted for various reasons, said so.

What's more, with all of these repulsive vote-rigging irregularities. he seeks to ram it down our throats that the whole thing is 'democracy,' much as Hugo Chavez once did. Biden demands it specifically of Americans who elected Trump, bringing up the comparison to Trmp's victory (a very odd thing for a purported winner of an election to do). Then he demands that everyone accept it as his landslide since it was 'no different' from Trump, who, unlike Biden, led a black-swan mass movement:

Together, the Vice President-elect Harris and I earned 306 electoral votes, well exceeding the 270 electoral votes needed to secure victory. 306 electoral votes is the same number of electoral votes that Donald Trump and Vice President Pence received when they won in 2016, excuse me. At the time, President Trump calls the Electoral College tally a landslide. By his own standards. These numbers represented a clear victory then, and I respectfully suggest they do so now. If anyone didn’t know before, they know now.

One other little fact-check problem with this: Given that he's touting his numbers as the same as Trump's, it should be noted that Biden's Democrats never, never accepted the result of the 2016 election, and went to spectacular ends to thwart it, so far from accepting this Biden victory, even if it was real, as Trump's was, leaves Republicans free to return the favor.

Another thing that's galling in his speech is his claims that democracy was 'threatened' by Trump as he sought to contest the results of the election and got let down by some pathetic cowardly judges as well as the ward-heelers of the four anomalous deep-blue cities. Somehow asking isn't democratic, and Biden didn't even wait for the results to be played out, he was playing president and making 'Office of the President-Elect' speeches and pronoucimentos the day after.

That's some faith he has in experts, or more likely, yes-men. If this is his opening statement to the American public, all it shows is that we are in for some tough times, a president who knows we don't believe a thing he says, and therefore to rely on the word of others for his legitimacy as proof he belongs in the White House. We're also in for a bath of lies with buzzwords that mean nothing to Democrats such as democracy and will of the people. He'll use it when he tries to shut down fracking, rams through the green new deal, hands cronies money and pardons Hunter Biden.

This doesn't sound like confidence, this sounds like con-man, a guy who knows we know he cheated and wants to gaslight us into thinking something different.

Obama lets the cat out of the bag: He's got plans to make Joe Biden his stooge

Joe Biden, who couldn't even get President Obama's endorsement during the primaries, now has word that Obama may well use him as his marionette stooge for what's in fact a third Obama term.

He's not even trying to hide it.

In an interview over the weekend with Stephen Colbert for The Late Show, Obama admitted:

Transcript:

... and I used to say, you know what, if I can make an arrangement where I had a stand-in, a front-man, or a front-woman, and they had an earpiece in and I was just in my basement in my sweats looking through the ... stuff, and then I could sort of deliver the lines but someone was doing all the talking and ceremony, I'd be fine with that ...

This ought to be embarrassing for Biden, given that Obama is effectively letting word slip out that he intends to be Biden's backseat driver, telling the old dotard what to do from behind closed doors, maybe even from some basement.  That's not exactly a vote of confidence, even as Biden presumably assumes the reins of the richest and most powerful nation on Earth.

Everyone suspected that this was the real idea — Biden serving as a placeholder for a third Obama term while Obama called the shots.  RedState points out that this is exactly what Vladimir Putin did, when election laws prohibited him from seeking an additional term, so he placed a obedient loyalist, Dmitri Medvedev, into the presidential slot until he could get himself back into power.  The same thing happened in Argentina as the Kirchner gang, husband and wife, traded off with each other for the nation's top job, leaving the country in shambles.

Biden's smallness, venality, and malleability make him a perfect front man for Obama, which is pretty obvious to normal people.  Obama, recall, has a long history of contempt for Biden, stating that nobody could screw things up as Biden could, and advising Biden as he contemplated his presidential run by saying, "Joe, you don't have to do this."  No "good luck" and "best wishes" there.

Now Obama finds that Biden could be useful in that great stooge fantasy he posited to Colbert.  Biden, after all, is politically weak, with no mass following and no political coattails even as he "won" the fraud-infused presidential election.  Biden also had very weak traction leading up to his sudden Super Tuesday nomination brought on by an endorsement from Rep. Jim Clyburn.  Prior to that, Biden was a washed up old joke, and Kamala Harris played with him on the debate stage like a chew toy.  It's kind of odd, is it not, that Biden, who got nearly 20 million more votes than Obama, would be so weak that he'd need to take orders from his supposedly weaker previous boss.

RedState also points out that Biden's now got the lean and hungry Obama-linked Kamala at his side, and worse still is larding up his Cabinet with former Obama administration retreads such as Tom Vilsack and Susan Rice.

Ben Rhodes and Valerie Jarrett, we assume, won't be far behind.

It's not a pretty picture.  Presumably, Biden has a presidential legacy to think of as he ascends the ranks of "history," and presumably, he would want to make his own mark, striking out on his own from under the shadow of Obama.

But with Obama making talk about whispering to Joe like some infernal boyar in medieval Russia's "time of troubles," Biden can't help but look small.  Obama admits he fantasizes about continuing to call the shots in an undeclared third term, while sure enough, Biden plays his pathetic puppet.  As for the rest of us, and for world leaders, too, all that is conveyed is that Biden is weak, a yes man, and not truly presidential.
