California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s approval rating has collapsed in the Golden State, falling from two-thirds in September to 46% now, according to a new poll reported by Politico on Tuesday.

Politico noted:

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s approval rating has plummeted as the public sours on his pandemic management, according to a new Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll that underscores the viability of a campaign to recall Newsom.

The poll found that just 46 percent of California voters approve of Newsom’s job performance — a sharp decline from the two-thirds who backed him in a September IGS poll. His declining standing tracked with growing public disaffection over Newsom’s handling of the coronavirus: the share of voters who said he is doing an excellent or good job dropped from roughly half in September to about a third, while those who faulted him for doing a poor job leaped from 28 percent to 43 percent.

Fiscally, California is in good shape, with Newsom announcing earlier this year that the state expects a $15 billion surplus.

However, he has faced several recent controversies, including his participation in a dinner at the elite French Laundry restaurant while much of the state was under coronavirus restrictions, and electricity blackouts in the midst of a heat wave.

A recall effort is currently under way, with organizers claiming to have gathered some 80% of the 1.5 million signatures necessary by March 17 to put a recall on the ballot. Both Democrats and Republicans have begun jumping into the race to replace him, with former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, a moderate Republican, formally entering the race this week.

California on Sunday reported another 481 CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus deaths, a day after the statewide death toll topped 40,000 even as the rates of new infections and hospitalizations continue to fall.

The state said that the number of people in the hospital with COVID-19 slipped below 14,850—a drop of more than 25 percent in two weeks.

Deaths remain staggeringly high, however, with more than 3,800 in the last week.

WHO Team Visits Infamous Wuhan Food Market

A World Health Organization (WHO) team looking into the origins of the pandemic on Sunday visited the food market in the Chinese city of Wuhan that was reported to be linked to many early infections.

The team arrived at Huanan amid heavy security, with additional barricades set up outside a high blue fence surrounding the market, and left in a convoy after about one hour. The experts did not take questions from journalists.

Fake News About Moderna Vaccines Trending in China

A negative news report on Moderna vaccines recently set off a debate on China’s social media.

On Jan. 27, an article titled “WHO Does Not Recommend MODERNA COVID-19 Vaccines” appeared on a host of Chinese state media outlets, including the Global Times, Guancha, iFeng Tech, and official accounts of local governments. This topic became so heated that it rocketed to fourth place on the list of the most searched hashtags on China’s social media Weibo.

But the news reports turned out to be misrepresentations of information from the World Health Organization (WHO).

CCP Blames Imported Food for Virus Surges

Faced with an increasingly severe domestic situation, as the pandemic worsens in various Chinese provinces, the CCP and its media mouthpieces in recent months have continued publishing reports claiming that the CCP virus originated in other countries, in an attempt to shift attention away from the cover up in Wuhan at the early stages of the pandemic.

State-controlled media have also frequently reported that China has had “cases imported from overseas.”

WATCH: Warren Issues a Stark Warning About COVID Relief for McConnell

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) on Saturday called on Senate Republicans to vote in favor of the third Wuhan coronavirus relief package. She said it's a way for them to "step up."

"All of a sudden Senate Republicans say, 'It's too big.' I'm sorry. We've got tens of millions of people out of work. We've got tens of millions of people on the threshold of losing their homes," she said.

According to the senator, there are currently 23 million Americans who are unable to put food on the table. The relief package, she said, would help out families in need while also stepping up COVID vaccination production and reopening schools.

Host Tiffany Cross followed up by asking why Democrats are focused on bipartisanship instead of using their power to push for things the American people need. Warren said she hoped Republicans would join Democrats' efforts because Americans of all political ideologies are suffering due to the pandemic.

"We need everyone to have the help that they need," Warren said. "We need them to get vaccines. We need to get these schools open. But if the Republicans aren't going to do it the Democrats got elected, not to just stand around and debate in Washington. They got elected to deliver and that is exactly what we should do, get this stimulus bill passed and get it done now."

The senator said it's time for Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to "step up" and rise to the occasion so a bipartisan package can be passed.

"Every day that we delay is another day of people suffering, another delay in getting the vaccines out, and another pause before we get the schools open. I want this done as soon as possible. I’m ready. I am ready to go. And I think we’ve got a lot of Democrats who are ready to go. Right now, Mitch McConnell is still digging in … There’s going to come a point that either he’s going to step up and join us, or we’re going to call his bluff. Me, I’m already at that point. We’ve got to get others on board too, though.”

“Look, right now, there are people who still want to at least give Republicans a chance to come along, and I understand that. But all of the Democrats, and I really do want to underline here all, they want to see relief. They understand the importance of getting these vaccines out. This is about life and death. They see the importance of getting our schools open. They see the importance of making sure that everyone can put food on the table and nobody gets thrown out on the street," she explained. "So, I think Democrats are in the right place. They’re trying to keep the door open to get Republicans onto the bus as well. But if Republicans aren’t going to come, we’re not going to spend much more time on this. It’s time to move now.”
