Kamala Harris: Latin America Needs ‘Climate Adaptation’ to End Border Crisis
Vice President Kamala Harris promised Central American countries to work with them to battle climate change in a speech on Tuesday, in the hopes of slowing the migrant crisis.
The vice president spoke about climate change as a “root cause” of the migrant crisis, during a virtual speech to the Washington Conference on the Americas citing the lack of “climate adaptation,” and “climate resilience” in the region.
“The work from combatting corruption to combatting climate change will not be easy,” Harris said. “And it is not new, and it could not be more important, and it will take all of us.”
Harris argued the citizens of Central American countries like El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras did not want to leave their homes but were leaving for the United States to find hope.
“People in the region do not want to leave their homes,” she said. “They do not want to leave the communities they have known their entire lives.”

She spoke about people in Central American countries who had their homes washed away by hurricanes or were fearful of cartel violence and poverty.
“That’s why they leave home and come to the United States. They are suffering, they are in pain, many are experiencing unimaginable anguish.”
Harris expressed her concerns about violence in Central American countries against LGBTQ, Afro-descendants, and indigenous peoples, as well as women.
She said President Joe Biden’s administration would invest in countries to provide “hope at home” in the region.
“The strength of the United States of America depends on the strength of all of the Western hemisphere,” she said. “In so many ways our fates are intertwined. That is especially true with Latin America.”
Biden Throws Out Trump Reform, Gives ‘De Facto Amnesty’ to Illegal Aliens Ordered Deported
President Joe Biden’s administration is throwing out a reform sought by former President Trump that would have stopped the federal government from issuing work permits to illegal aliens with final deportation orders.
Last year, Trump issued a proposed rule change to prevent the issuance of work permits to illegal aliens who have been ordered deported from the United States by a federal immigration judge.
Now, the Biden administration has announced that they are reversing the proposed rule change, ensuring that the federal government continues to provide work permits to illegal aliens with final deportation orders.
As part of the reversal, the Biden administration cited that stopping issuances of work permits to illegal aliens with final deportation orders “would impose exorbitant costs and burdens on U.S. employers related to labor turnover.”
Jessica Vaughan, with the Center for Immigration Studies, told Breitbart News that the reversal by the Biden administration is “a de facto amnesty” for illegal aliens.
“This is yet another common sense Trump reform that is being reversed,” Vaughan said. “Most Americans would be astounded to hear that in 2019 the government issued more than 25,000 work permits to people who have been ordered removed by an immigration judge. These are often criminals who can’t be deported because their home country refuses to take them back.”
“So we just let them stay, with benefits like a work permit. The Trump administration finally got around to stopping this practice, but not fast enough to keep it from being undone,” Vaughan continued. “We can expect the Biden administration to use the work permit authority to the maximum extent possible, because it’s a de facto amnesty that is easier than trying to get an amnesty bill through Congress.”
Already, the Biden administration is rewarding tens of thousands of border crossers with one-year work permits to remain and take American jobs while they await their court hearings.
The mass issuance of work permits to border crossers and illegal aliens comes as 16.4 million Americans remain jobless, all of whom want full-time employment. In addition to those unemployed, more than five million Americans are underemployed: they are in part-time jobs but want full-time work.

Report: Biden’s ICE Chief Nominee Sought Release of 1.5K Inmates, Including Illegal Aliens, Violent Offenders
President Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, Harris County, Texas, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, sought the release of more than 1,500 inmates this year, including illegal aliens and those charged with violent crimes.
Last month, Biden nominated Gonzalez to become ICE director, the agency that has been gutted by the administration’s “sanctuary country” orders that prevent agents from arresting and deporting illegal aliens who are not recently-convicted aggravated felons, terrorists, or known gang members.
A report by the Washington Free Beacon reveals that Gonzalez, in January, sought the release of more than 1,500 inmates in the Harris County Jail — more than 74 percent of which were either charged with violent crimes, were illegal aliens with ICE detainers, or had extradition orders on them.
Gonzalez’s prison release of the inmates request was so extreme that the county’s liberal District Attorney, Kim Ogg (D), refused to grant the request and instead released only 60 inmates.
“Of the 1,543 defendants on the list sent to the district attorney by the Harris County sheriff, 1,148 defendants have an external hold or their pending case is violent,” wrote Ogg. “The district attorney objects to lowering the bail for any of these individuals’ cases.” [Emphasis added]
Ogg added that the remaining 395 inmates on the release list “collectively have 823 pending cases [against them], many of which have a bond greater than $10,000. Many of these multiple arrestees were on bond when arrested for new offenses.” [Emphasis added]
…
According to Ogg, the sheriff’s office had omitted significant concerning details about many of the inmates. One of the prisoners on the list, who was charged with misdemeanor assault of a family member, was also facing probation violation and deferred felony charges for residential burglary and had waived bail hearings. The sheriff neglected to note that another inmate on the list, who had been indicted for felony theft, had previously been released on a reduced bond in an ongoing felony forgery case and was facing deportation when he was rearrested. Another prisoner, charged with violent misdemeanor terroristic threat, had previously been released on bond but had it rescinded twice for failing to comply with electronic monitoring. [Emphasis added]
In 2017, as Breitbart News reported, Gonzalez made national headlines when he ended Harris County’s 287(g) agreement with ICE — the program that allows local law enforcement to seamlessly turn criminal illegal aliens over to ICE agents.
Yet, the decision did not impact Harris County’s cooperation with ICE, as Gonzalez’s department told Breitbart News in 2017 they would continue complying with ICE when agents requested criminal illegal aliens be turned over to federal custody, and they even welcomed ICE to place an agent in the local jail to help facilitate such transfers.
While Gonzalez continued cooperation with ICE, he lobbied state lawmakers and Gov. Greg Abbott (R) to veto a ban on sanctuary cities in April 2017 and criticized the law after Abbott signed the legislation in May 2017.
Gonzalez has opposed worksite enforcement raids by ICE. In 2019, Gonzalez wrote that he did “not support [ICE raids] that threaten to deport millions of undocumented immigrants, the vast majority of whom do not represent a threat to the U.S.”
