Chicago Weekend Shootings: 5 Killed, 21 Wounded

Chicago experienced another violent weekend with 26 shootings, 5 of which were fatal, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. As homicide data show, the majority of victims in Chicago are young, black men. In the last 365 days (through May 10), 590 black Chicagoans have been killed, reported the Chicago Tribune.
In Chicago on Saturday night, 14-year-old Eddie Thigpen was found in Humboldt Park with a gunshot to his abdomen. He was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Diqawan Harmon, 27, was killed Sunday morning on the Near West Side, reported The Sun Times. "He was sitting in a parked car with a friend about 4:25 a.m. when the friend demanded money from him, authorities said. The man refused and his friend began shooting," said The Sun-Times.
Harmon was pronounced dead at the hospital.
In another fatal case, 36-year-old Robert Hogan was in East Garfield Park on Saturday evening and was shot several times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly thereafter, "a 23-year-old man was fatally shot in Lawndale," reported The Sun-Times. "The attack occurred about 10:25 p.m. ...Terrance Billops was shot in the chest and transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead."
Thirty-one-year-old Eujon Eversly was shot and killed on Friday evening on the West Side of the city.
On Saturday, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital.
At least 15 other people were shot within city limits between 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 5:00 a.m. on Monday, reported The Sun Times.
