Joe Biden Laments: Confederates Did Not Make It to the U.S. Capitol, but January 6th Rioters Did

President Joe Biden suggested the violence of the January 6th riot on Capitol Hill was worse than the Civil War during a speech Thursday at the White House.

“Not even during the Civil War did insurrectionists breach the Capitol of the United States of America, the citadel of our democracy,” Biden began. “Not even then. But on January the 6th, 2021, they did.”

The president hosted a signing ceremony Thursday for a bill awarding Capitol Police officers a Congressional Gold Medal for their response to the January 6th riots, giving Biden an opportunity to excoriate supporters of the former president for the violence.

Biden described the Trump supporters who rioted at the Capitol as “a mob of extremists and terrorists” and disrupted a “sacred ritual” act by Congress to certify his election as president of the United States.

“It wasn’t dissent, it wasn’t debate, it wasn’t democracy,” he said. “It was insurrection. It was riot and mayhem. It was radical and chaotic. It was unconstitutional and maybe most important, it was fundamentally un-American.”

Biden added the riots were an “existential threat” to the United States.

“Our Democracy did survive,” he said. “Truth defeated lies. We did overcome.”

He attributed the eventual successful certification of the election to the law enforcement officers who tried to stop the protesters.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you for protecting our Capitol. Maybe even more importantly, for protecting our Constitution,” Biden said.

Exclusive — Mark Morgan: ‘White House and Democrats Are Trying to Pass Through a Mass Amnesty as Part of Infrastructure’

Migrants are processed by United States Border Patrol after crossing the US-Mexico border into the United States in Penitas, Texas on July 8, 2021. - Republican lawmakers have slammed Biden for reversing Trump programs, including his "remain in Mexico" policy, which had forced thousands of asylum seekers from Central America …

Mark Morgan, former chief operating officer and acting commissioner for Customs and Border Protection (CBP), told Breitbart News on Wednesday that the Biden administration and Democrats intend to include a “mass amnesty proposal” for illegal aliens in an appropriation bill marketed by the White House as a “Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill.”

“The White House and Democrats are trying to pass through a mass amnesty proposal as part of infrastructure,” Morgan warned on Wednesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow. “That in and of itself is ridiculous, but they’re also doing it through a complicated, seldom-used reconciliation process. It’s an end-run around needing a 60-vote requirement to get a bill passed [in the Senate].”

He continued, “This is unconscionable. I believe it’s illegal. I believe it goes against the reconciliation requirements, that [the legislation must] have some tangential relationship to spending. That’s the only way it can be part of an appropriations bill, [in this case] specifically infrastructure. It’s absolute lunacy.”

Americans “should have their voices heard” on an issue “so critical to our national security, public health. and our public safety,” Morgan remarked.

“The White House and Democrats [are] trying to do a back door, midnight, cloak of darkness deal to further their agenda,” he added. “It’s unconscionable.”

CBP cannot adequately secure the border while its resources are consumed by processing and housing illegal aliens, Morgan stated.

“Border patrol agents [are processing] 210,000 illegal aliens [in July],” he noted. “Guess what’s happening? They’re being pulled off the line. Large areas of the border are wide open. It’s why you’re seeing fentanyl [trafficking] skyrocket, criminal aliens are getting past them, gang members are getting past.”

Morgan said approximately 300,000 migrants — which he described as a “conservative” estimate — evaded Border Patrol agents in the current fiscal year for the federal government, which ends in October.

“[We’ve seen] 300,000 got-aways this fiscal year,” he said “That’s shattering all records. That’s 300,000 individuals that have snuck into the country, gotten past, our front-line defenders, and made their way to every town, city, and state.”

Illegal immigration affects the entire country, Morgan warned.

He stated, “What happens on the southwest border does not stay at the Southwest border. The illegal aliens — right now, [by] this administration — are being released into the United States and being flown to every state in this country.”

Morgan said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is not screening migrants for coronavirus.

He said, “DHS, up to this point, is not doing anything with respect to COVID. They’re not testing. They’re sure as heck not giving out vaccines.”

The Biden administration has released about 300,000 unaccompanied minors, Morgan shared.

“I’m being conservative when I say this administration has released around 300,000 … unaccompanied minors, as well as families into the country. … They’re not testing the families, not a single one,” he added.

Morgan highlighted how lawful travelers — both U.S. and Mexican citizens — seeking access to the U.S. across ports of entry along the southern border are subjected to greater travel restrictions than migrants illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

He concluded, “Right now, a family can walk up — illegally enter our borders — walk up to a Border Patrol agent, a family of four [or] five and say, ‘Hey, I just walked into your country, and oh, by the way, we all have COVID.’ Guess what they’re going to [say] under this administration? ‘No problem, come on in, we’re going to release you into the interior of the United States.'”

Mayorkas Offers Work Permits to Chinese from Hong Kong

Migrants arrives at the West Railway Station with their luggage on February 2, 2009 in Beijing, China. Homeland security chief Alejandro Mayorkas is offering temporary residency and work permits to people who claim to be victims of China’s oppression in Hong Kong.

“Today, President [Joe] Biden issued a memorandum directing the Department of Homeland Security [DHS] to take appropriate measures to defer for 18 months the removal for Hong Kong residents presently in the United States,” the August 5 statement said.

Because of the directive, “DHS will temporarily defer removal for eligible individuals. [And they] may also seek employment authorization through U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services,” the statement said.

The offer of “Deferred Enforcement Departure” is a “reckless decision by the Biden administration,” responded Rob Law, the director of regulatory affairs and policy for the Center for Immigration Studies.

“There’s very little confidence that nefarious members of the Chinese Communist Party in the United States are not going to try to disguise themselves as a qualified persons from Hong Kong, and we will literally be allowing the enemy to operate from within,” he said, adding that under Mayorkas’ direction, “we don’t want to screen anybody anymore.”

Law, who served as a top official at the visa-screeing agency — the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services agency — under then-President Donald Trump, explained:

I would not feel confident that we will have the ability to verify that those are legitimate documents. How are you going to validate them? [If you try] You’re going to have to ask the officials from Hong Kong which is now under the Chinese Communist Party.  When [you get] fraudulent documents, you’re gonna get an affirmation that they’re actually legitimate … Given the complete animosity that the Biden administration has towards proper screening and vetting, bad actors are going to slip through the cracks here.

Their philosophy is [that] it is better to err on the side of giving out an immigration benefit to an ineligible alien than for someone to possibly miss out on something that they might be eligible.

The announcement is unneeded because there are other ways to protect people from Hong Kong who do not want to return to the communist-controlled city.

“There are all sorts of other avenues available that don’t open the door for fraud and abuse online .. they could apply for asylum, they could apply for an extension of stay in their current immigration status, they could apply for a change of status to a different non-immigrant category,” he said.

The hidden purpose, he said, “is just to create yet another population” of work-ready migrants, he said.

Mayorkas is using his agency power over the border rules to open many new doorways for foreign migrants, including migrants with no plausible legal claim to work permits in the United States.

For example, Mayorkas is offering Venezuelan migrants work permits through the Temporary Protect Status (TPS) program if they meet a Setempber 2022 deadline. He has also offered TPS and work permits to 100,000 Haitians.

Under his oversight, roughly 700,000 migrants have crossed the Mexican border, and more are being flown from Central American cities to join other migrants in the United States.

Mayorkas is expanding the U Visa program, which provides work permits and green cards to people who claim they are victims of crime.

The Department of Justice is also revising asylum rules so Mayorkas’s deputies can offer citizenship to migrants who claim their home-country governments do not protect them from spousal abuse or routine crime.

The Cuban-born Mayorkas is an immigration zealot who grew up, graduated, and worked in California as a prosecutor during the 1990s. His support for migration is backed up by business groups.

Overall, investors and business coalitions want to import more migrants — even impoverished, ill, aging, or criminal migrants — because the migrants spike consumer sales, boost rental rates, cut wages, minimize management hassles, and so raise profits and stock values. The migrants also serve as clients for Democrat-run welfare agencies, and eventually, as voters for Democratic candidates.

But migration damages ordinary Americans’ career opportunities, cuts their wages, raises their rents, curbs their productivity, shrinks their political clout, and fractures their open-minded, equality-promoting civic culture.

Amid Mayorkas’ inflow of migrants, the “median weekly earnings of the nation’s 113.6 million full-time wage and salary workers were $990 in the second quarter of 2021 … 1.2 percent lower than a year earlier,” Breitbart reported July 16.

The economic extraction of valuable consumers, renters, and workers from poor countries also helps move wealth — and social status — from heartland red states to the coastal blue states. The extraction policy also helps move wealth and status from GOP rural districts to Democrat cities within each state.

In general, legal and illegal migration moves wealth from employees to employers, from families to investors, from young to old, from children to their parents, from homebuyers to investors, from technology to stoop labor.

Jobless Claims Notch Down to 400,000 as Layoffs Persist at Elevated Levels

The jobs market’s progress appears to have stalled, with jobless claims repeatedly coming in at high levels and no longer steadily declining as they did this spring.

New claims for unemployment benefits fell to 400,000 in the week ended July 24, 24,000 below the upwardly revised figure for the previous week.

This is the ninth consecutive week in which new claims, which are a proxy for layoffs, have been reported in a range between 365,000 and 425,000. The four-week average of claims is 394,000, an incease of 8,000 from the previous week’s range.

The lack of progress in claims is something of a mystery to many analysts. Many employers have complained that they cannot find enough workers and yet hundreds of thousands of workers appear to be losing their jobs every week.

Continuing claims for July 17 rose to 3,269,000, an increase of 7,000 from the previous week’s revised level. Continuing claims get reported with a one week delay. The 4-week moving average was 3,290,750, a decrease of 53,750 from the previous week’s revised average. This is the lowest level for this average since March 21, 2020.

The federal government launched a variety of new programs to extend unemployment benefits to those normally not eligible. These get reported with a three-week delay. The total number of continued weeks claimed for benefits in all programs for the week ending July 10 was 13,156,252, an increase of 582,403 from the previous week.

Homeland Insecurity for Conservatives

The Department of Homeland Security was created in the wake of the 9/11 attacks for the purpose of protecting America against terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda.  It was not intended to spy on ordinary Americans or track their political affiliations.  But now DHS seems to be spending as much time tracking and prosecuting "domestic terrorism" as it does foreign terrorists and actual criminals, including those gang members who are crossing our southern border every day.  That's the same border that Kamala Harris is in charge of.

An official at DHS stated in May 2021 that "domestic violent extremism poses the most lethal, persistent terrorism-related threat to our homeland today" — that in connection with a new program of monitoring extremism on public social media.  DHS is going to be collecting and analyzing social media data in an effort to identify possible threats.  That seems straightforward enough, except that one often discovers what one is looking for, and recent history suggests that government is tracking conservatives more closely than radical groups like Antifa.

On July 1, in one of many such actions, DHS predicted "increased activity" by what it calls "rightwing groups."  It is mystifying how the department could make this prediction, especially since no such highly public prediction was made in regard to those terrorist groups that actually have stated their intention to harm us.  Those groups, like Iran's Revolutionary Guards, seem to get a pass, but ordinary Americans become targets for bureaucrats who believe that the "biggest terrorism threat" comes from "individuals and small groups in the U.S."

Contrary to those, like the ACLU, who question the right of DHS to collect information on American citizens, I believe that government agencies do have the right to collect whatever information they need to avert violence.  But unlike many in these agencies, I also believe that these efforts must be even-handed.  Conservatives who are actually conspiring to commit illegal actions should be prosecuted, but so should those on the left who plot violence.

None of that seems to be happening.  As Charles Marino writes, during summer 2020, "protests by Black Lives Matter ... became associated with the destruction of cities, attacks on law enforcement and other forms of violence."  Yet how many of those responsible for this violence were ever prosecuted and jailed?  One has to question whether the same standards are applied to BLM, Antifa, and other groups on the left.  In my view, all who engage in violence or conspire to commit it should be prosecuted equally.

Americans must never relinquish their rights to free speech, but there are limits to expression.  In our democracy, one has the right to speak freely, to criticize the government and its leaders, and even to express radical views so long as one does not advocate violence.  Government does not have the right to track speech that is legal and within bounds.  The danger is that government, with its power to judge what constitutes "extreme" expression, may be monitoring the wrong groups.

DHS needs to be extremely careful to avoid gathering information on lawful citizens.  There is not, as some at DHS believe, a "close proximity between constitutionally protected speech ... and the threat of violence."  Constitutionally protected speech is entirely different from speech that incites violence, and one would expect high-level DHS officials to know this.  DHS was created in order to protect Americans from those who do not recognize this difference, but now it appears that some of those may be working at DHS itself.

DHS may be confused as to what its mission is.  At the center of current DHS policy is Alejandro Mayorkas, a person who has worked in government or government-related jobs, mostly located in Washington, D.C., for his entire life.  Are his ideas concerning "rightwing groups" connected with the fact that he grew up in Beverly Hills, attended Beverly Hills High School, and graduated from U.C. Berkeley?  True, one can hardly expect a person who has lived only in Beverly Hills, Berkeley, and Washington to have a very sophisticated understanding of heartland values.  Perhaps that is why DHS is so quick to accuse conservatives of extremism.

Part of this bias is the notion that left-wing violence is committed by "decentralized" groups like Antifa, while right-wing actions like the Jan. 6 protests were "coordinated" and "insurrectionary."  In fact, thousands of protesters do not show up without some sort of coordination: in the era of social media, Antifa and the Proud Boys are equally "coordinated."  The idea that left-wing violence is decentralized and thus less of a threat is extremely dubious.

Ironically, Mayorkas was in charge of DHS's Citizenship and Immigration Services unit under President Obama from 2009 to 2013, a period that saw a surge in illegal immigration and in criminals such as MS-13 gang members crossing our border.  Unrestricted immigration always brings with it an increase in violent crime, terrorism, and drug importation — just the sort of activities that DHS ought to be investigating and blocking.  Failure to secure the border simply abets crime and terrorism.

Shouldn't DHS spend more time securing our borders than tracking legal citizens who may entertain what it considers extreme views?  According to ICE, the total number of criminal illegal aliens stands at 1.9 million, about 16 percent of the officially recognized illegal alien population.  (Of course, all illegal aliens are criminals by virtue of their having crossed the border illegally, but ICE tabulates those who have committed other crimes.)  Surely these criminal illegal aliens pose a greater threat than the swaggering of native extremists, some of which may be simply letting off steam.  After all, one motto heard among MS-13 members is "kill, rape, control."  Why isn't Homeland Security more effective in protecting Americans against these and other gang members instead of letting them in?

A percentage of the 30 million illegals who may be here are members of criminal gangs, and the numbers may be much larger than government wants us to believe.  In many places, Americans live every day in fear of these gangs, and for good reason.  In the midst of crime waves in many cities, senior citizens are afraid to venture outside their homes, and even at home they do not feel safe.  Meanwhile, Biden minimizes the numbers and denies that a "crime wave" exists — this despite a near doubling of violent crime in many large cities this year.

There are an estimated 10,000 MS-13 gang members in the US, but this is only a fraction of the number of illegal alien gang members in our country.  It is difficult to obtain accurate numbers because search results are buried beneath articles claiming that "nondocumented" criminal activity is less prevalent than "native" criminal activity.  (The same apparent manipulation of search results takes place when one googles "crime wave.")  Progressives are going to great lengths to obscure the truth that illegals do commit violent crimes, that the borders are in fact wide open, and that a crime wave is sweeping across America.

Instead, progressives including Joe Biden focus on "right-wing groups."  DHS officials have stated that domestic extremism is more of a threat than foreign terrorism or even than gangs such as MS-13.  DHS was created for the purpose of combatting foreign terrorism, but somehow under Biden it is evolving into an agency that tracks conservatives on social media and focuses on domestic extremism.  That mistake needs to be corrected while we still have the freedom to do so.
