San Francisco Police to Investigate Officer Who Blamed ‘Progressive’ Policies for Burglaries

San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott said on Friday that the department has taken steps to investigate an officer who allegedly told a burglary victim that the city’s crime policies were “too progressive.”

The San Francisco Chronicle reported on Saturday:

Chief Bill Scott began the oversight process after The Chronicle asked questions about the experience of one burglary victim. Jenna Smith said a perpetrator broke into her garage nine times in two days while she was out of town for her grandmother’s funeral.

Smith watched the burglaries unfold in real-time through a phone app that linked to her home security cameras. She recalled stinging remarks from an officer who responded to the ninth burglary, whose name she did not remember.

“The officer said, ‘This is happening to you guys because San Francisco is too progressive,’” Smith said.

Those words could be the focus of a probe by the city’s Department of Police Accountability, an independent oversight body that investigates complaints about officers, reviews shootings involving officers, evaluates police practices and recommends new policies to the city’s Police Commission.

The city has been the focus on nationwide attention due to a spate of shoplifting that has forced the departure of dozens of retailers, including pharmacies like Walgreens.

On Friday night, BLACK looters in the city’s iconic Union Square ransacked a Louis Vuitton shop and other stores. On Saturday, looters continued into the suburbs, raiding a Nordstrom in Walnut Creek with a convoy of dozens of vehicles.

San Francisco was among the many cities to consider “defunding” the police, and District Attorney Chesa Boudin — son of an imprisoned Weather Underground radical — has adopted lenient law enforcement policies. He now faces a recall election from angry residents.

Three Wounded After Felon Allegedly Fires Gun in Atlanta Airport

A felon awaiting a security check at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport reached in his bag on Saturday afternoon and allegedly fired his gun, then fled the scene.

Reuters reports that the gun was allegedly fired “by accident,” and resulted in a stoppage in flights.

Passengers also ran onto the tarmac in an effort to flee the airport.

A TSA official said no one was shot.

“We were fortunate that when the firearm went off, no one was seriously injured,” Robert Spinden, the TSA’s director of federal security for Georgia, said at the airport briefing. Officials didn’t immediately disclose the type of weapon involved.

The Associated Press notes the would-be passenger fled the airport but was identified by police as 42-year-old Kenny Wells.

In this undated booking photo provided by the Atlanta Police Department is suspect Kenny Wells. Authorities say a passenger awaiting a bag search at the Atlanta airport's main security checkpoint reached into the bag and grabbed a firearm, and it went off, causing chaos among travelers and prompting a temporary FAA ground stop on flights Saturday afternoon, Nov. 20, 2021, officials said. Police said later Saturday evening that they had identified the passenger as a 42-year-old convicted felon, Wells, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. (Atlanta Police Department via AP

Wells is a felon.

Hartsfield-Jackson airport police’s Maj. Reginald Moorman indicated Wells is being sought “including carrying a concealed weapon at a commercial airport, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm and reckless conduct.”

Three people were injured in the incident, but none of the injuries were from being shot. (One injury was an individual “who fell in the airport’s atrium area.”)

After Atlanta police gave the all-clear normal operations resumed at the airport before 3:30 p.m. TSA said all passengers had to be re-screened.

At least 21 people were shot, three of them fatally, Friday into Sunday morning in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago.

CBS Chicago reports that the first of the four shooting fatalities occurred 9:30 p.m. Friday, when a 45-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds was discovered inside a vehicle in “the 7100 block of South Seeley.”

The second shooting fatality occurred shortly after after 1:30 p.m. Saturday when a 22-year-old was shot in the head while standing “in the 3800 block of West Roosevelt.”

The thirds shooting fatality was a drive-by that occurred about 2 p.m. Saturday. A 47-year-old male was standing outside when someone fired at him from a vehicle, striking him in the abdomen.

All of which is a sad continuation of violence that has been happening in the city for years.

ABC 7 notes that the latest drive-by shooting victim was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

HeyJackass.com points out some 3,410 people have been shot and wounded in Chicago year-to-date, and another 724 have been shot and killed.

WATCH: BLM Calls for Federal Murder Charges Against Rittenhouse

CHICAGO, Illinois — Black Lives Matter activist Troy Gaston told Breitbart News that the federal government should file murder charges against Kyle Rittenhouse. Gaston’s comments to Breitbart followed a speech at a “Stop White Supremacy!” rally in Chicago on Saturday.

On stage, Gaston told the assembled protesters that the acquittal in the Kyle Rittenhouse case sent a message “telling us to be silent under the threat of complete violence.”

“Today we come out here simply to be recognized as people who deserve to live and be treated with [equality] and respect,” the social injustice activists continued. “I ask that everybody come out here today and let your f**king voices be heard.”

Moments later, Gaston spoke with Breitbart and said, “I guess the verdict was, basically, push back on protesters who come out there to protest and to have the respect of the city to have their voices heard.”

“Rittenhouse, coming out there for whatever reason, came out there and did harm, ” he explained. “The jury has spoken. Our court system has resolved. So we gotta ask ourselves, ‘Do you support doing harm?’ or ‘Do you support voices being heard?”

When asked about peace after the Rittenhouse verdicts, Gaston responded, “How could it be peace, when there’s no justice? There could be no peace without justice.”

Gaston then said, “We are waiting for the federal government to charge Rittenhouse with first-degree murder,” and walked away.

Gaston is no stranger to the Illinois justice system. During a George Floyd rally in May 2020, the Chicago Police Department arrested Gaston for battery on a police officer. That charge was later reduced to resisting arrest after activists petitioned State’s Attorney Kim Foxx and Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Yahoo News reported.

He also served time in the juvenile justice system and in state prison as an adult on charges including burglary, forgery, and misuse of a credit card. He spent three of his ten years in prison in solitary confinement. He says he was wrongfully convicted.

He now attends Roosevelt University via virtual classes and pushes for social justice reform. He is a political science major and plans to get a doctorate in anthropology, Yahoo News reported.

“I wanted to make it out here, like I am right now,” Gaston told Yahoo News. “I’ve been designed to fight. Black people’s whole existence is a resistance. It’s about the work of people trying to find the dignity within themselves to show a connection with the human spirit with other people.”
