Police have released video of two people’s alleged attack on a woman in Brooklyn last week that resulted in her being taken to the hospital unconscious.
The individual was believed to still be in the hospital as of Wednesday, one week after it happened, PIX 11 reported.
Police said the incident occurred at approximately 3:15 a.m. on October 6 on Powell Street in the Brownsville area.
Surveillance video showed the moment a man and woman approached the 30-year-old woman. The female suspect appeared to punch her in the head, causing her to fall headfirst into a fenced planter:
The female suspect then appeared to continue hitting the woman as she lay on the ground, which knocked her unconscious, according to authorities.
The male suspect reportedly took the woman’s purse, two cellphones, cash, and a neck chain, while the other suspect kept hitting her, police stated.
At one point in the video, the female suspect appeared to stomp on the woman’s head multiple times.
Police told Pix 11 the attack was not random, and they believe it was the result of an earlier encounter between the victim and the female suspect.
“The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of trauma to her head and face, authorities said. She is expected to survive,” the outlet reported.
A Rasmussen poll released in August in partnership with the National Police Association (NPA) found 70 percent of American voters believe crime is “out of control,” while 22 percent disagreed.
“A majority of those polled believe poor policy has to do with this year’s increase in violent crimes, including the elimination of cash bail requirements in some jurisdictions,” Breitbart News reported.
“Seventy-three percent of voters say letting accused violent criminals out of jail without bail while they wait for trial increases violent crime. Fourteen percent disagree, and 13 percent are not sure,” the outlet said
Nearly 50 Shot During Weekend in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago
Nearly 50 people were shot, nine of them fatally, during the weekend in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago.
Breitbart News observed yesterday at least 36 people were shot Friday into Sunday morning alone in Chicago, and seven of those shooting victims succumbed to their wounds.
By Monday morning ABC 7 / Chicago Sun-Times noted the number of weekend shooting victims had increased to 47 with nine fatalities.
The weekend shooting fatalities occurred at 6 p.m., 9:50 p.m., and 11:50 p.m., Friday; 3:30 a.m., 12:20 p.m., and 4:10 p.m., Saturday; 12:10 a.m., 12:20 a.m., and 10:15 p.m., Sunday.
Saturday’s 12:20 p.m. shooting was an apparent self-defense incident, wherein a 77-year-old concealed carry permit holder shot and killed an alleged robber.
The Sun-Times reported the 77-year-old was in his garage when a vehicle pulled up and the alleged robber exited and “demanded his belongings.” The 77-year-old drew his own gun and opened fire, striking the alleged robber in the head and chest.
Breitbart News pointed out there had been 678 murders in Lightfoot’s Chicago between January 1, 2021, and November 2, 2021. That means the city is on track to surpass the 775 murders which were committed in 2020.

Eight dead, hundreds injured in crowd crush at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas
Eight people died and hundreds more were seriously injured during a performance by rapper Travis Scott on the night of November 5 in Houston, Texas at the Astroworld Festival.
Mobile phone videos show horrific scenes with thousands of concertgoers packed tightly into one undulating mass, held in place by a network of immovable steel barriers. Limp bodies are seen being lifted out of the mass and dumped over the barricade as the show goes on.
“We were in hell,” one young woman said in a video message posted on TikTok (brook333lliott). “We were all suffocating. Everyone was standing on our tiptoes with our chins up, gasping for air. That’s all you could see around you. Our bodies were literally suffocating us so bad that people were bleeding out of their mouth and nose. There wasn’t anything anyone could do. People were screaming bloody murder and begging for help. The floors were covered in bodies.”
Scott has a record of encouraging unsafe behavior at his concerts. In 2015, he pleaded guilty to reckless conduct after telling a crowd at the Lollapalooza festival to jump over security barricades. In 2017, he was arrested for “inciting a riot” which injured fans at a concert in Arkansas, and again pleaded guilty.
The dead include two teenagers—14-year-old John Hilgert and 16-year-old Brianna Rodriguez—as well as Franco Patino (age 21), Axel Acosta (21), Rodolfo ‘Rudy’ Peña (23), Danish Baig (27), and Jacob E. Jurinek. As of Saturday afternoon, five more teenagers and eight adults remained hospitalized.
It is unclear exactly how many people were present at the concert or involved in the crush, but it was likely in the tens of thousands. There were 100,000 tickets sold for the two-day festival, twice as many as previous years. Social media videos from earlier in the day also show hundreds of people entering through a broken gateway and running onto the festival grounds without presenting tickets.
In a highly unusual move for a large music festival, Travis Scott was the only act performing at the time of the disaster.
Normally, festivals schedule multiple performances across several stages to more evenly distribute the crowd. On Friday, Astroworld instead concluded all other acts by 8:00 p.m. before displaying a giant countdown timer on the stage where Scott was scheduled to perform.
Many people wrote on social media about what happened next. As the timer approached zero, and tens of thousands of people attempted to get a view of the only active stage, the crowd became dangerously compressed. People report being crushed and passing out before Scott even appeared.
Seanna Faith recounted on Instagram what happened when the rapper took the stage: “Within the first 30 seconds of the first song, people began to drown – in other people… People began to choke one another as the mass swayed… Once one [person] fell, a hole opened up in the ground… Person after person were sucked down. You could not guess from which direction the shove of hundreds of people would come next.” Others wrote of “layers and layers of people” falling and being trampled.
After falling herself, Faith was helped up and escaped over a barricade. She can be seen in multiple mobile phone videos climbing up a ladder leading to a crew member operating a live video camera. She repeatedly shouts “There’s someone dead in there! Stop the show!” But the worker, who is wearing large headphones over his ears, appears not to understand, and yells at her to get down.
Media accounts of the timeline vary after Scott took the stage at 9:04 p.m. A video analysis by the Daily Beast determined that he performed 25 songs over the course of 90 minutes as the disaster unfolded, and exited the stage at 10:34 p.m.
Several social media videos show groups of people in different parts of the crowd screaming desperately to get Scott’s attention and stop the show. The performer, who is wearing in-ear headphones, did not react to them.
However, at multiple points during the performance, Scott did acknowledge that he saw the ambulance attempting to drive through the crowd. Once, he paused for less than a minute and instructed people to make room for crew members to remove someone, but then he quickly resumed singing. Near the end of his set, he brought out star rapper Drake as a surprise guest, which caused another crush.
Festival staff were unprepared for such a disaster. Madeline Eskins, a festival attendee and an ICU nurse who helped resuscitate people after herself passing out and being saved from the crush, wrote on Instagram that some of the medics “had little to no experience with CPR and didn’t know how to check a pulse… The medical staff didn’t have the tools to do their jobs, and despite the crowd around us trying to get someone to stop the concert they just kept going.”
CNN reported that before the night was over, 300 people were treated at a field hospital set up on the festival grounds. The second day of the festival was canceled on Sunday.
This weekend was the third annual Astroworld Festival, which is organized by Scott and global live music industry giant Live Nation, which took in $1.8 billion in 2020 amid the pandemic. Last year, Astroworld was canceled amid a surge in COVID-19, when there were 96,000 new cases and 1,000 deaths per day across the US.
This year, it was held despite the fact that there are now more than 70,000 new cases of coronavirus and over 1,200 deaths per day. Tickets sold out within one hour of going on sale, and ranged in price from $365 to over $1000 for VIP passes. That is upwards of $37 million in ticket sales alone.
Scott has an estimated net worth of $50 million. In November 2020, he appeared on the cover of Forbes magazine’s “30 under 30” issue. His partner Kylie Jenner, who is part of the celebrity Kardashian-Jenner family, has hundreds of millions of dollars in personal wealth.
Although rarely engaging in the fetishization of homicide and brutality that pervades much of hip-hop, Scott’s lyrics are drenched with the worship of hedonism, risk-taking, and living for the moment. The concert’s iconography borrows heavily from horror movies, including a giant, skull-like sculpture of the artist’s head.
One attendee posted on Reddit, “Everything seemed normal for a Travis Scott show. I've seen countless people pass out at almost every GA standing room only concert. I didn't know the people I saw being carried away were lifeless corpses, I thought people were just passing out. Was it overcrowded? Yes but that's normal. Was it understaffed? Yes but that's normal. Was it chaotic? Yes but that's normal. I feel like the crowd became so desensitized and normalized to nothing but rage that it finally caught up to him and everyone involved.”

The ongoing shoplifting surge has forced Walgreens to close five more San Francisco stores as local law enforcement continues to do next to nothing to curtail the problem.
In a statement to SF Gate, Walgreens spokesman Phil Caruso confirmed “organized retail crime” has strangled San Francisco stores.
“Organized retail crime continues to be a challenge facing retailers across San Francisco, and we are not immune to that,” Caruso said. “Retail theft across our San Francisco stores has continued to increase in the past few months to five times our chain average.”
“During this time to help combat this issue, we increased our investments in security measures in stores across the city to 46 times our chain average in an effort to provide a safe environment,” he added.
Asha Safai, San Francisco Board of Supervisor for District 11 admitted to feeling “devastated” over the closure a Walgreens store that has “been a staple for seniors, families and children for decades.”
“I am completely devastated by this news – this Walgreens is less than a mile from seven schools and has been a staple for seniors, families and children for decades. This closure will significantly impact this community,” he tweeted.
Safai told SFGate that the shoplifting had crippled the store’s bottom-line and endangered the staff and customers to an unhealthy degree.
“This is a sad day for San Francisco,” Safai said. “We can’t continue to let these anchor institutions close that so many people rely on.”
Shoplifting has skyrocketed in San Francisco recently, likely a result of Proposition 47, which dictates stealing would not be a felony in California if the item stolen did not exceed $950.
The damage has been felt across a range of business outlets.
In May of this year, The San Francisco News described the situation as being “out of control,” noting that 17 Walgreens have had to close in the past five years due to rampant shoplifting in the city.
17 Walgreen locations in San Francisco have closed their doors within the last five years according to a report from the SF Chronicle. Ten of these closures transpired from 2019 to this year with the last Walgreens store to close its door as of this writing, back on March 17. The cause of the closures is due to rampant shoplifting and looting that has transpired at Walgreen locations in the city believed to be perpetuated by an organized crime ring.
On Thursday, May 13 a hearing was held by the Board of Supervisors with retailers, the SFPD, the district attorney’s office, and probation departments. Brendan Dugan, director of organized retail crime and corporate investigations, believes that San Francisco is at the center of organized retail crime. He brought up a state bust in the Bay Area from last year in which $8 million in stolen merchandise was confiscated from five suspects. The merchandise came from CVS, Target and Walgreens stores from all across San Francisco.
The lack of enforcement made shoplifters so nonchalant and casual they would often steal in broad daylight while awestruck customers documented the crime on their iPhones, allowing for some viral internet moments.

A prominent Safeway supermarket in the Castro district of San Francisco is limiting its hours due to rampant shoplifting, the latest example of a retail store closing or limiting its operations in the left-liberal city due to out-of-control petty crime.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday:
Shoppers at the Safeway in San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood will see a noticeable change to the store: It now closes at 9 p.m. due to what one supervisor described as “out of control” shoplifting.
Once open 24 hours a day, the Safeway store on Market and Church streets now has the earliest closing hours of all the Pleasanton-based supermarket chain’s San Francisco storefronts, most of which stay open until midnight.

[San Francisco Supervisor Rafael] Mandelman said theft at the Safeway at 2020 Market Street has been “out of control” and recently met with Safeway representatives “to better understand the issues at this store.” He said he also planned to meet with the San Francisco Police Department and the office of San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin “to see what is currently being done to deter theft at Safeway, and to figure out a plan to do better.”
Earlier this year, Walgreens closed 17 stores in the city due to shoplifting, which skyrocketed after California voters passed Proposition 47, a ballot initiative aimed at criminal justice reform, which reclassified thefts up to $950 as misdemeanors. As a result, such thefts are rarely prosecuted.
The crime spike began under former district attorney George Gascón, who is now district attorney for Los Angeles County, and has continued under Chesa Boudin, who now faces a likely recall election.
