Pelosi has spent pretty much her entire life in politics. Her father was a congressman. She interned for a senator and then spent the rest of her life climbing the ladder.
At the age of 81, she's just getting started.
Pelosi's video trots out the familiar old, "our democracy is at risk because of the assault on the truth" gibberish and then claims that "nothing less is at stake than our democracy... that is why I am running for re-election to Congress."
Nothing says democracy like an oligarchy composed of professional politicians who never leave public office and cultivate massive donors as their power base in order to wield control over the nation.
All the promises of retirement, like her other promises, seem to have come to nothing. Pelosi wants to be reelected and it's likely that she would also like to retain a Democrat House leadership role in whatever capacity.
So the Dems are likely to be stuck with Pelosi who will still be there "protecting democracy" and insider trading.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has announced her run for reelection despite the fact it could mean her serving out her final congressional years in the minority party.
In a video announcement on Tuesday, Pelosi said that she will seek another term for the benefit of “the children” and the promotion of San Francisco values: LGBTQ equality, abortion, and much more.
“Thank you for giving me the privilege to represent our city and our San Francisco values in the Congress,” she said before a backdrop of San Francisco’s famed Alamo Square. “Human rights, reproductive justice, LGBTQ equality, respect for immigrants, and care for each other.”
Pelosi emphasized that her decades-long political career, in which she has enriched herself through questionable Wall Street trading maneuvers, has been fueled by her love of … the children.
When people ask me what are the three most important issues facing Congress, I always say the same thing: our children. Our children. Our children. Their health, their education, the housing and economic security of their families, a clean safe environment in which they can thrive, and the world at peace and where they are all welcome and in which they can reach their fulfillment. That is my life. Why I am in Congress. For the children. This is my story and this is my song.
As you hear me say, when you’re in the arena you have to be able to take a punch or throw a punch – For the Children.
After listing her most treasured progressive causes, Pelosi concluded that she will return to Washington as a warrior for our democracy:
Our democracy is at risk because of assaults on the truth. The assault on the U.S. Capitol, and the state by state assault on voting rights. This election is crucial. Nothing less is at stake than our democracy. But as we say: we don’t agonize, we organize. And that is why I am running for reelection to Congress and respectfully seek your support.
Pelosi did not say whether or not she will once again seek to become House Speaker if her party retains the majority in the coming mid-terms. Her run for reelection comes after she broke her promise to Democrats to bow out after her party took control of Congress in 2018
Too many people in our government are essentially American oligarchs. They use politics, not for their country’s advancement, but for their own. Over 2,500 years ago, Aesop moralized, “A man is known by the company he keeps.” By that metric, although Nancy Pelosi’s son, Paul Pelosi, Jr., has never been charged with a crime, I’m not sure I’d leave him in a room with my silverware. I say that because I’ve just read the Daily Mail exclusive report noting that Paul has been involved in five companies probed by federal agencies for fraud and other serious financial crimes.

· He joined a lithium mining company and received millions of shares, allegedly issued as part of a massive $164 million fraud
· He was vice president of a company previously embroiled in an investigation of scam calls that targeted senior citizens
· He has close business ties with a man accused by the Department of Justice of running a fake UN charity that stole investors’ money
· A medical company Pelosi Jr. worked for tested drugs on people without FDA authorization, according to an FDA investigation
The long article spells out the details of those corrupt businesses and businessmen. And in a striking echo of Hunter Biden’s career, the Daily Mail adds,

Moreover, like Hunter, Paul was unqualified for the lucrative jobs that came his way:
Though [he claimed to be] frugal, Pelosi Jr. certainly wasn’t strapped for cash in February 2007, he had just landed a $180,000 job as Senior Vice President at data company InfoUSA, despite already holding a full-time position as a home loan officer at Countrywide Home Loans in San Mateo and having no experience in database marketing.
The company was run by major Democrat donor Vinod Gupta, who had been embroiled in a criminal investigation by the Iowa Attorney General’s Office since 2004.
Investigators claimed that between 2001 and 2004 InfoUSA knowingly sold millions of consumers’ data to fraudsters who used the information to scam the elderly, stripping some of their life savings.
In other words, Paul brought nothing to the table but his mother’s connections and his father’s staggering wealth (which was probably helped greatly by Nancy Pelosi feeling free to buy and sell stocks even though her political actions affected the market).

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) says lawmakers must “stop turning a blind eye to Washington profiteering” and finally ban members of Congress from holding or trading individual stocks.
Last month, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated that Congress and their family members should not be banned from trading stocks because “we’re a free market economy.” The remark came after it was revealed that 54 Republicans and Democrats in Congress failed to properly disclose their transactions in accordance with Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act.
Those lawmakers include Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), as well as Reps. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY), and Pete Sessions (R-TX), among others.
This week, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) said lawmakers are undoubtedly influenced by their stocks when it comes to legislation and the industries they are supposed to be regulating like Wall Street and giant tech conglomerates.
In response, Hawley has filed legislation, the Banning Insider Trading in Congress Act , that would ban members of Congress and their spouses from holding or trading stocks.
“Year after year, politicians somehow manage to outperform the market, buying and selling millions in stocks of companies they’re supposed to be regulating,” Hawley said:
Wall Street and Big Tech work hand-in-hand with elected officials to enrich each other at the expense of the country . Here’s something we can do: ban all members of Congress from trading stocks and force those who do to pay their proceeds back to the American people. It’s time to stop turning a blind eye to Washington profiteering . [Emphasis added]
Among other provisions, Hawley legislation would prohibit lawmakers and their spouses from holding, acquiring, or selling stocks during their time in office. The plan also sets in place a time period of six months that lawmakers and their spouses would have to divest prohibited holdings after taking office.
If any member of Congress or their spouse violated the policy, they would be required to forfeit any investment profits to American taxpayers through the United States Treasury Department.
“Members who violate the requirements will also lose the ability to deduct the losses of those investments on their income taxes,” a description of the policy states. “The ethics committees of Congress may levy additional fines and will publicize violations.”
This week, the watchdog organization Unusual Whales revealed that, on average, members of Congress beat the market in 2021 with its hundreds of millions of dollars in stock trades. Those who faired the best were Reps. Austin Scott (R-GA), Brian Mast (R-FL), French Hill (R-AR), John Curtis (R-UT), Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), and Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is said to be considering plans to file legislation that would ban members of Congress and their spouses from trading stocks while in office.
Banning members of Congress from trading stocks is hugely popular among Americans. A recent Trafalgar Group survey revealed that 76 percent of Americans believe lawmakers have an “unfair advantage” when it comes to the stock market. Only five percent support permitting the practice .

Politico Playbook exclusively reported Wednesday that publishing giant HarperCollins is preparing to release the next investigative bombshell book by six-time New York Times bestselling author Peter Schweizer titled Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win .
Red-Handed remains under a strict embargo until its January 25 release date.
The book’s cover, which Politico obtained a copy of, features photos of President Joe Biden and Chinese Communist Party Leader Xi Jinping, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), former House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), LeBron James, Elon Musk, Henry Kissinger, and Bill Gates. According to Politico , Red-Handed will “expose bad actors on both ends of the political spectrum and their willingness to do China’s bidding.”
Given the bestselling author’s investigative track record, the book’s subjects may have cause for concern. Peter Schweizer’s Clinton Cash sparked an FBI investigation into the Clinton Foundation. His last two books, Profiles in Corruption and Secret Empires , each hit #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and exposed how Hunter Biden and Joe Biden flew aboard Air Force Two in 2013 to China before Hunter’s firm inked a $1.5 billion deal with a subsidiary of the Chinese government’s Bank of China just 10 days after the trip.
Schweizer, who is the president of the nonpartisan Government Accountability Institute (GAI) and a senior contributor to Breitbart News, also authored Throw Them All Out , which, according to left-leaning Slate , was “the book that started the STOCK Act stampede.” The bipartisan STOCK Act (Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge) banned insider trading by members of Congress and was signed into law by President Barack Obama on April 4, 2012. The legislation received overwhelming support from both parties. One of the main figures featured in Schweizer’s Throw Them All Out , then-chairman of the House Financial Services Committee Spencer Bachus (R-AL), announced he would not seek reelection after the book’s reporting. CBS’s 60 Minutes did an investigative report on Schweizer’s revelations that won them the Joan Shorenstein Barone Award for excellence in Washington-based journalism.

Biden, for instance, had sought to include tax cuts for his billionaire donors in a Chinese coronavirus relief package earlier this year. The plan was ultimately cut from the package. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), in May 2020, also tried to include the plan in a coronavirus relief package.
Poll: 59 Percent Disapprove of the Democrat-Led Congress

The most recent Harvard-Harris poll showed that 59 percent of registered voters disapprove of how the Democrat-controlled Congress is doing its job, while 30 percent strongly disapprove.
Only 30 percent of the poll respondents said they approve of how the Democrat-controlled Congress is doing its job. Eleven percent said they “don’t know” or are “not sure.”
Additionally, the poll found 48 percent approve of how the Republican party has handled their job. There was also 52 percent who disapproved of the Republican party’s job. But, it is lower than the Democrats’ 60 percent disapproval, who currently control Congress and have the power of the majority.
When the respondents were asked about the Democrat party going too far to the left, 28 percent said the party is “just about right,” while 25 percent said “not far enough,” and 47 percent said they are “too far to the left.”
As a result, when the respondents were asked who they would vote for if the congressional elections were held “today,” the Republicans led by six points. Forty-seven percent of the respondents said they would vote for the Democrats, while 53 percent would vote for the Republicans.
The monthly Harvard-Harris poll was taken January 19 and 20. There were 1,815 registered voters asked to respond to questions.
The poll is a bad sign for the Democrats in Congress, who need to defend their extremely slim majorities in the upcoming midterm election. Midterm elections, such as the one later this year, are not only a reflection on the president’s party but a reflection on the Democrat’s control of Washington.
While not on the ballot, President Joe Biden has had a rough start to his presidency.
In the first year, Biden has been plagued with bad poll numbers in the low thirties due to poor decision-making, such as a supply chain crisis , record-high inflation , and the botched Afghanistan withdrawal .

Report: Chuck Schumer Receives Campaign Donations from Russian Pipeline-Linked Affiliates J. Scott Applewhite / ASSOCIATED PRESS 3:39
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who helped block sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 project, received campaign donations from corporate PACs affiliated with two of the European companies that helped fund the pipeline, according to a report from the Washington Free Beacon.
The corporate political action committees of ENGIE North America and BASF Corporation, two affiliates of European companies that are associated with the funding for Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline, gave $2,500 campaign contributions to Schumer’s campaign in September, according to records with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the report stated. Reportedly, the parent company for ENGIE North America and a subsidiary for BASF are part of the group of five businesses that financed the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to transport natural gas from Russia to Germany.

The contributions to Schumer came amid an aggressive lobbying effort in Washington over sanctions on the 764-mile pipeline. The five European companies that back Nord Stream 2—Wintershall, ENGIE, Uniper, Shell, and OMV—have paid millions of dollars to lobbying firms to block sanctions.
Nord Stream 2 AG, the Swiss company that is building the pipeline, lobbies Congress through Democratic donor Vincent Roberti. Roberti gave maximum donations of $5,800 to Schumer and other Senate Democrats last year, Axios reported . Thomas McLarty, the founder of McLarty Inbound, a firm that lobbies for the five European companies, in April gave $2,500 to Schumer.
ENGIE North America, a subsidiary of the French firm ENGIE, contributed to Schumer’s campaign on Sept. 9. BASF, the parent company of Wintershall, donated to Schumer on Sept. 22. ENGIE also contributed to Schumer’s campaign in 2020, while BASF gave to the Senate leader in 2016, according to FEC records. Each member of the European consortium loaned 1 billion euros to Nord Stream 2 AG in 2017. Nord Stream 2 AG is controlled by Russian state oil company Gazprom. Nord Stream 2 AG’s chief executive officer, Matthias Warnig, is a Putin ally and former officer of the East German secret police.
All of this occurred as Schumer reportedly blocked requests from Senate Republicans for legislation to enforce sanctions on the Russian pipeline project after President Joe Biden waived sanctions last year. At the time, Biden said that the pipeline was almost complete and imposing sanctions would be “counter-productive” for European relations.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) attempted to pass legislation earlier this month but failed after Senate Democrats used the filibuster, which they are busy trying to eliminate, to block his legislation. The bill only had 55 votes, short of the filibuster’s required 60 votes to end debate and move to a final vote.
The Free Beacon noted that neither Schumer’s office nor ENGIE North America returned a comment request. But a spokesman for BASF illuded that its American subsidiary does not lobby members of Congress on the Nord Stream 2 and that Wintershall does not have a presence in the U.S. “Any implied connection between our Employee PAC contributions and Nord Stream 2 is incorrect,” the spokesman said.

Michael Waltz (R-FL) said that a Russian invasion of Ukraine is “imminent and it’s very likely” and that sanctions will not be effective because “the Germans are not going to get on board” with any sanctions regime due to President Joe Biden’s energy policy undermining American energy and moving the world onto Russia’s environmentally dirty gas.
Waltz said, “I do think it’s imminent and it’s very likely that Putin is going to invade.”
He later added, “I want Americans to understand that Biden’s failed energy policies are directly leading to instability around the world. When Biden shuts down American pipelines, American drilling, puts regulation on our fracking, and moves us away from energy independence, he’s moving the world towards Russian oil and gas. And then you add on top of that green-lighting the Russian pipeline, which, by the way, moves the dirtiest form of gas in the world. So, the environmental argument doesn’t even weigh in. Every time that price of oil goes up, you see Putin getting richer and getting more aggressive, and the same thing with Iran. They are also getting richer and more aggressive because America, rather than exporting oil, he’s — Biden’s moving the world towards dependency on their oil, and this is how you’re seeing it play out. And for sanctions to be effective, which is the centerpiece of Biden and Blinken’s response, it has to be effective in euros and dollars. And the Germans are not going to get on board as long as they are dependent, and, look, they just had to fire the head of the German Navy yesterday for saying Ukraine will never get Crimea back and that we should be showing Putin more respect. So you’re going to see a weak G erman response here. Putin knows it. And, again, that’s why he knows he can get away with it.”

I guess that leaves the rest of America completely vulnerable. Nord Stream 2, there are mandatory Congressional sanctions, this administration refuses to enforce them. And as oil prices go up, in fact, Putin’s helping that happen, he’s becoming richer by the day. Everything’s moving his way. Why not step up and take advantage of this situation too?”

Covid protocol critics and vaccine skeptics would have a field day with Biden catching Covid and use it to further undermine trust in the administration’s efforts to combat the pandemic. The 79-year-old president would likely take at least a few days to recover—in addition to placing himself in quarantine—which could exacerbate concerns about his age and health.” According to Politico, this fear of illness for Biden “could very well scuttle his ambitions to crisscross the country more this year.”
1836 — The last year that a sitting Democratic vice president was elected to the presidency. That was Martin Van Buren. So if Kamala Harris were to attempt to succeed Biden in 2024, she would need to break a pattern that has been in place for 188 years. We might recall that in 2000, for example, Democratic Vice President Al Gore sought to succeed President Bill Clinton and lost.
1856 — The last year that a Democrat eligible to run for re-election chose to retire and was replaced by another Democrat elected to the White House. In that year, Franklin Pierce handed off to James Buchanan. So if a Democrat other than Harris were to be the party’s nominee in 2024, he or she would need to break a winless “streak” that has held for 168 years.
1968 — The last year that a Democratic president chose not to run again. That was Lyndon B. Johnson, who had become unpopular over the Vietnam War, rising crime, and campus unrest. The Democrats lost the White House that year.
2016 — The last year that an incumbent Democratic vice president was passed over for the presidential nomination. Five years ago, Vice President Biden was pushed aside for Hillary Clinton. And we know what happened that November.

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) on Monday reacted to President Joe Biden’s low approval rating numbers.
Fox News polling showed only 47% of registered voters approve of Biden’s job performance.
Scott told Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria” that he was “fed up with Biden.” After being critical of Biden’s handling of the rising tension between Russia and Ukraine, the Florida senator called him “the weakest president” of his lifetime.
“First off, I’m fed up with Biden, OK?” Scott told host Maria Bartiromo.
“Number one, he should never have approved Nord Stream 2. That’s number one. He should stop it right now,” he added. “Number two, he ought to be clear — he said he was going to be this world leader. He’s got to get world community. Organizers say we are going to stand up against Russia. Number three, he needs to send everything he can — we don’t need to send the American troops — we ought to send everything we can to help Ukrainians defend themselves and make sure … that Putin understands there will be consequences of his actions. But Joe Biden — I mean, everything is a reaction; nothing is thought out. I mean, this is the weakest president in my lifetime, I think.”

House Democrats plan to introduce their version of a bill aimed at increasing competitiveness against China as President Joe Biden’s legislative agenda has stalled.
Democrats will unveil this week their version of the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act (USICA), according to Punchbowl News. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) noted this bill, aimed at increasing competition with China, was one of her top priorities.
The Senate passed its version of USICA in June after many weeks of amendment votes. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Todd Young (R-IN) made the legislation a key issue.
The legislation would try to boost high-tech research and manufacturing, particularly in semiconductor chips and artificial intelligence.
“House conservatives have long been concerned that Schumer’s China bill lacks teeth and focus. We need to make confronting China’s malign activity here in the United States our top priority,” House Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman Jim Banks (R-IN) said last week. “This bill misses the whole point.”
Conservative criticism of the $250 billion Senate USICA bill has centered around that it would not stop Chinese government activity within the United States, it wastes money on issues unrelated to countering China, and there are few provisions to punish China.

A Republican memo circulating through the House last November noted the bill contains wasteful spending, including:
Pumps $81 billion into the National Science Foundation [NSF]—the largest increase for the NSF since its launch 70 years ago—who have historically doled out the cash for frivolous and wasteful research projects. NSF has previously spent $357,000 on “Cocaine and Risky Sex Habits of Quail.” NSF has previously spent $1.6 million for researching “Lizards on a Treadmill.” NSF has previously spent $250,000 of taxpayer dollars to send kids in Pakistan to Space Camp and Dollywood. NSF has previously spent $700,000 to investigate whether astronaut Neil Armstrong used the word “a” after landing on the moon and delivering his well-known “one giant leap for mankind” quote. NSF has previously spent $3 million studying if humans would eat insects as a means to combat climate change. Plus, the U.S. already spends 93% more on research and development as compared to China. Democrats have now pushed this legislation as Biden’s congressional majority failed to pass his $4.91 trillion Build Back Better Act. Schumer also failed to break the filibuster to pass two voter bills, the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Advancing Rights Act, after Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) would not support ending the centuries-old Senate rule.

The RSC released its own plan last week that they believe would allow the United States to better counter a rising China, as detailed by Breitbart News’s Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) noted in an long-form interview with Boyle that the bill fails to have adequate safeguards against Chinese spying:
“But imagine if you’re trying to say, ‘ok, so America is now going to spend $150 billion on research through universities that we already have our claws in. That’s great. We’ll just steal it. Go ahead and spend your money, and we’ll steal your research. We get it for free,’” Rubio said then. “It’s crazy. It’s nuts. So that’s the problem we’re having, these things of that nature. And the reason it’s happening is because universities have ins with the administration, and they’re saying, ‘hey, don’t put in a lot of restrictions or safeguards because it’s going to slow down our research.’ Well, that’s crazy. It would be faster for me to get on an airplane if I didn’t have to go through TSA too, but we have to do it.
He added, “We have to have safeguards. So what’s that they sense.”

The fact that Hunter's market value was derived from his father's position seemed to be a source of resentment for the younger Biden, even as he continued to cash in on the name. Hunter complained in texts to his daughter that he had financially supported the Biden clan for three decades and that "pop" takes a cut of "half [my] salary." (CNSNews.com) - Rep, Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.), who serves on the House Appropriations Committee, said Friday that President Joe Biden has been “a divider” who is “rudderless and confused.” “I'm shocked really from the inception President Biden has taken this country totally in the wrong direction. I can remember vividly and fondly in the Trump administration every key indicator, the economy, jobs, foreign policy, we were clicking everywhere. The world was looking at us,” he told Fox Business’s “Mornings with Maria.”
“The country was coming back. There was optimism. Sadly,
President Biden from the inception has doubled down on zero,
and when you double down on zero, you get zero, but how

Fleischmann said.
The congressman called Democrats “rudderless.” “They are confused. They are wrong. When asked what we can expect in terms of priorities if the GOP takes the majority in the midterm elections, Fleischmann said, “First of all, plain and simple common sense, economic common sense, foreign policy common sense, looking at our great constitutional Republicans saying we need to embrace the values that have made this country great. “Biden has really acquiesced to the radical left of his party and that was the biggest sadness I thought. I really thought Joe Biden, even though I disagreed with him and would never have voted for him was going to try to be a unifier. He's been a divider, he's been rudderless and confused,” the congressman said. “So what the Republicans are going to do is get back to basics, make sure that our economy gets strong again, attack inflation at its root causes and things like that. Get Americans back to work. Stop the crazy vaccine mandates and things like that - just good-old common sense and guess what, people in the center will embrace that and America will come roaring back,” he added. On immigration, Fleischmann is one dozens of lawmakers in the House and Senate who are calling on the DHS inspector general to investigate Biden’s actions on the border. When asked what he would like to see the investigation uncover, Fleischmann said, “I'm the ranking member, highest Republican in appropriation subcommittee we have a porous border. There is no border policy. “They are just wandering all over the place, millions of illegals are coming in. It's wreaking havoc in this country. I want accountability. I want a policy, and I want to make sure that America has a border policy that is secure. It's border security and immigration, not just immigration,” he said.

Peter Schweizer’s new book Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win tells the story of how Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) husband Richard Blum was part owner of a Chinese firm that allegedly sold computers with spyware chips to the U.S. military. The military has never been able to calculate how much sensitive data these computers allowed China to steal.
A hefty chapter of Red-Handed is devoted to tracking Feinstein’s long and expensive relationship with Communist China. The senator has made herself very, very useful to Beijing — so useful that she actually tried to excuse the Tiananmen Square massacre by suggesting China only called in combat troops to murder thousands of demonstrators because it ran out of cops.

In a total coincidence that could not possibly have been related in any way to Feinstein’s friendship with the tyrants of Beijing, her husband did a great deal of lucrative business with Chinese companies, including entities run by the Communist government and linked to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
One of those deals saw Blum becoming a major investor in a computer company that was founded by researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), an institution tied to both the Chinese government and the PLA. The company was originally called Legend, but is better known by its second name, Lenovo.

Lenovo grew into a major player in the worldwide computer marketplace after it acquired IBM’s line of personal computer products in 2005. Lenovo’s deal to buy IBM’s business included $350 million in investments from three American private equity firms. One of them was Richard Blum’s Newbridge Capital.
Some lawmakers worried Lenovo’s purchase of IBM’s personal computer line could jeopardize U.S. national security and transfer advanced American computer technology to China. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who sat on the Senate Intelligence Committee at the time, was not one of them.
It did not take long for security agencies across the Western world — including the U.S., U.K., Canada, New Zealand, and Australia — to discover security vulnerabilities in Lenovo products and ban them from sensitive operations. The U.S. State Department announced it would not allow Lenovo computers to connect to its classified networks in 2006, barely a year after the IBM acquisition.
Somehow Lenovo still managed to sell a large number of laptop computers to the U.S. military, which discovered that many of those machines included motherboard chips that “would record all the data that was being inputted into that laptop and send it back to China,” as a computer operations manager for the U.S. Marines in Iraq put it.
A year after that testimony was delivered, Blum sold his stake in Lenovo.

The Pentagon released an audit in 2019 that found the Department of Defense (DoD) still has not formally banned computers from Lenovo, now the largest personal computer company in China, even though the Department of Homeland Security and the Joint Chiefs of Staff Intelligence Directorate have both identified the machines as cyberespionage risks. The U.S. Air Force purchased 1,378 Lenovo products worth $1.9 million as recently as 2018.

· Initially reported as part of a larger story about spies in Silicon Valley, a former intelligence official later revealed that the staffer was Feinstein’s driver for many years.
· The source told the San Francisco Chronicle that the driver passed information to Chinese officials based at the local Chinese Consulate . Part of the staffer’s role was acting as a liaison between Feinstein’s San Francisco office and the local consulate.
· The staffer was recruited to spy after visiting China.

· Feinstein’s Relationship With China · Some details of Feinstein’s past are now being examined anew, centered on her close relationship with China, beginning with her service as mayor of San Francisco from 1978 to 1988.
· Feinstein has long been linked to China. For instance, she hosted former president of China Jiang Zemin at her home for dinner when she was mayor of San Francisco, and celebrated the resumption of air service from China to the United States (starting with San Francisco International Airport) after a 32-year hiatus.
· San Francisco and Shanghai have been sister cities for 38 years, after the agreement was put into place by Feinstein and Jiang, who was then Shanghai’s mayor. Feinstein was cited as having a “ close relationship ” with Jiang and ties between the two continued for many years later.
· Jiang is infamous for cracking down on human rights , most notoriously by banning the peaceful meditation practice of Falun Gong and throwing many of its estimated 100 million adherents into jail.

· Feinstein also defended China, despite its communist policies, insisting that it was merely “socialist.”
· “There was originally this kind of anti-communist view of China,” Feinstein told the Washington Pos t. “That’s changing. . . . China is a socialist country but one that is increasingly becoming capitalistic.”
· Husband Becomes Prominent Investor in China · Several articles from the 90s explore the development of not only Feinstein’s developing relationship with China while she was mayor, but her husband’s burgeoning investments there.
· According to the Los Angeles Times , in 1997 Feinstein’s husband Richard Blum, who invests his own and clients’ money into undervalued firms, expanded his business investments into the communist nation to the point that “his firm is now a prominent investor” there.
· In 1992, the investments amounted to one project worth less than $500,000. Two years later he was planning to invest up to $150 million and two years after that a Blum investment firm paid $23 million for a stake in a Chinese government-owned steel company.
· Another investment by Blum’s firm was helped by the International Finance Corp., an arm of the World Bank, which invested $10 million in the leading producers of soybean milk and candy in China.

· “It seems to be going quite well,” Rashad Kaldan—who in 1994 managed the IFC’s capital markets investments in Asia—told the Times of the project. He added: “There also was some comfort in that Mr. Blum had some contacts with the Chinese.”
· Blum said that his interest in China went back many years, predating political connections. He won permission from the Chinese in 1981 to climb the east face of Mt. Everest and called himself a close friend of the Dalai Lama , the exiled Tibetan leader who the Chinese government opposes.
· In dispatches written for the San Francisco Examiner, according to the San Francisco Chronicle , Blum said that a goodwill visit to China by Feinstein in 1979 helped him win permission to climb Everest.
· “We had come to build goodwill, promote trade and to make new friends,” Blum wrote in one story, adding, “but I asked for and received permission to have another kind of meeting—one with the Chinese Mountaineering Association.”
· Trips to China · Feinstein took three trips between 1995 and 1997 to China, in addition to trips earlier in her mayoral service, to meet with top communist officials, including Jiang. Blum often attended the meetings with her, an arrangement the Times described as “unusual.”
· At one time, the couple had dinner at Zhongnanhai, the enclave reserved for the president and other top officials in China.
· “We had dinner in Zhongnanhai in Mao Tse-tung’s old residence in the room where he died. We were told that we were the first foreigners to see his bedroom and the swimming pool. It was a very historic moment to see some of these things,” told the Los Angeles Times. Mao was the communist leader of China whose policies led to the deaths of tens of millions of Chinese people.
· Feinstein insisted that Blum had never spoken to officials during meetings about business.
· “I am open to any suggestion as to how I can even make a firewall more fireproof,” she said. “I don’t know what else I can do. . . . Either he retires or I suppose we end our marriage.”
