Border Patrol agents and state police in Texas found a four-year-old boy and his mother as they interdicted a smuggling operation involving migrants and marijuana. The group of 15 people brought 116 pounds of marijuana into the U.S.

Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents and Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers observed a group of approximately 15 people crossing the border river that separates the U.S. and Mexico shortly after midnight on April 12, according to information provided by Border Patrol officials in Texas. Some of the group appeared to be carrying large bundles of marijuana as they crossed the Rio Grande near Roma, Texas.

As law enforcement officials approached, many of the occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee into the brush in this well-known drug and human smuggling area. A search of the area led to the apprehension of 13 migrants who were illegally present in the United States.

Agents identified the migrants as citizens of Central American nations, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. The migrants included a four-year-old boy and his Guatemalan mother, officials stated. Officials did not find the driver of the vehicle.

The agents seized the 116 pounds of marijuana and estimated the street value at more than $93,000.

The next day, Border Patrol agents teamed up with state and local law enforcement partners to interdict six human smuggling attempts that turned into vehicle pursuits at various locations in the Rio Grande Valley Sector. The pursuits led to the apprehension of more than 40 migrants.

Agents assigned to the Falfurrias Immigration Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 281 also rescued seven migrants who smugglers locked inside a refrigerated tractor-trailer. The temperature inside the trailer was reported to be 51 degrees.

Early Thursday morning, Rio Grande City Station agents came upon two large groups of migrants. The encounters led to the apprehension of 355 migrants, officials reported. The groups included 181 single adults, 132 family members, and 42 unaccompanied alien children.

Smugglers Increase Use of Locked Railcars to Move Migrants into Texas

Border Patrol agents in Texas report an increase in the use of locked railcars to ship migrants into the U.S. interior. The practice is extremely dangerous as the migrants have no means of escape and temperatures can exceed well over 100 degrees.

Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens reported that Eagle Pass Station agents received information regarding a group of migrants locked inside rail cars. The agents arrived and found 50 migrants inside after cutting locks on the cars.

“This tactic is being used too frequently,” Chief Owens stated. “The value of human life is never considered.”

A few days earlier, Owens tweeted a photo of a locked auto-track hauler. Agents received a 911 activation from one of the vehicles inside the rail car. Agents from the Eagle Pass North Station responded and unlocked the doors. Inside, they found eight migrants with no means of escape.

Breitbart Texas frequently reports on the use of trains by human smugglers.  In March, Del Rio Sector agents found 40 migrants locked inside rail cars during a 48-hour period.

In one incident on February 28, Uvalde Station agents found a group of 25 migrants in a car hauler, Del Rio Sector officials reported. The migrants attempted to conceal themselves in the vehicles. Agents identified the migrants as citizens of El Salvador, Honduras, and Mexico. Officials noted the temperature at the time was 31 degrees.

In two other incidents, Uvalde Station agents found 12 more migrants in car haulers after K-9 teams alerted to their presence. The migrants were locked inside the rail car with no means of escape, officials stated.

Abbott Should Coordinate with Feds Before Busing Migrants to DC, Says CBP

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Chris Magnus says the governor of Texas should coordinate with the federal government before busing migrants to Washington, D.C. His remarks follow an order from Governor Greg Abbott to provide buses to take willing migrants already released by federal agencies and transport them to the nation’s capital.

“Governor Abbott is taking actions to move migrants without adequately coordinating with the federal government and local border communities,” Commissioner Magnus said in a written statement Thursday afternoon. “CBP has always worked closely with and supported border communities in Texas, many of which CBP personnel call home.”

“We all have a shared interested in maintaining safe, orderly, and humane immigration processes, and assistance from the state should be carefully coordinated with us,” the CBP head continued.

CBP and ICE officials regularly release thousands of migrants into border communities and other cities across the nation without warning to state and local communities.

Magnus’ comments follow the arrival of two busloads of released migrants sent by Gov. Abbott to Washington, D.C. The first bus arrived on Wednesday when a group of migrants offloaded in front of Fox News cameras. The second bus arrived Thursday morning before sunrise, Fox News reported.

On April 6, Gov. Abbott ordered the Texas Division of Emergency Management to prepare buses to transport DHS-released migrants on a voluntary basis from their drop-off location to Washington, D.C.

“To help local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed by hordes of illegal immigration who are being dropped off by the Biden Administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden Administration to Washington, D.C.,” Governor Abbott said during a press conference in Weslaco, Texas.

“We are taking them to the United States Capitol where the Biden Administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border,” the governor added.

Magnus’ comments also come on the day the Biden administration is ending Title 42 for thousands of migrants crossing the border illegally from Mexico, Breitbart’s Randy Clark reported. The information obtained from a source revealed that single adult migrants from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Colombia will no longer be expelled under Title 42 along some parts of the southern border.
