(CNSNews.com) - As Air Force One carried President Joe Biden to North Carolina on Holy Thursday, Deputy White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated to reporters that Biden “believes in codifying Roe v. Wade.”

Her statement came in a question-and-answer session with reporters on board the plane.

A reporter asked her about Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida signing a law that would ban abortion babies after 15 weeks of gestation.

“Is there any reaction at this point from the White House to Florida Governor DeSantis signing the 15-week abortion ban earlier today,” the reporter asked.

“Per what we normally say about what we’re seeing nowadays when it comes to abortion, you know, we believe in codifying, the President believes in codifying Roe v. Wade,” said Jean-Pierre.

“We do know that women’s constitutional rights are under attack all across the country,” she added.

Here is the full transcript of the exchange between Jean-Pierre and a reporter about Biden’ reaction to the Florida law banning late-term abortions:

Reporter: “And is there any reaction at this point from the White House to Florida Governor DeSantis signing the 15-week abortion ban earlier today?

Ms. Jean-Pierre: “I don’t have any comments on that. Per what we normally say about what we’re seeing nowadays when it comes to abortion, you know, we believe in codifying — the President believes in codifying Roe v. Wade. We do know that women’s constitutional rights are under attack all across the country.

“That’s why the Biden-Harris administration is doing everything we can in response to these attacks on women’s rights.  And he’ll continue to stand with women and support their right to make their own healthcare decisions — a constitutional right that Roe v. Wade reaffirmed nearly five — five decades ago.

“And the President, again, calls on Congress to act and send a bill to his desk to shut down these radical steps being taken.”

(CNS News) -- Last month, a large number of aborted babies were recovered from an abortion clinic in Washington, D.C., including five children who were nearly fully developed. Pro-life activists have called on D.C. authorities to conduct autopsies of the babies to see if they were killed illegally, and 69 congressional lawmakers have called on Attorney General Merrick Garland and the FBI to investigate whether the children were killed in violation of federal law, specifically the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban of 2003.

The April 8 letter to Attorney General Garland, spearheaded by Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah), states, "We are gravely concerned by allegations brought forward that suggest a pre-born baby underwent a partial-birth abortion at the Washington Surgi-Clinic in Washington, D.C. We demand that you conduct a comprehensive investigation on the circumstances surrounding the deaths of each pre-born baby."

Twenty-three senators and 46 House representatives, all Republicans, signed the letter.

The dead babies were recovered by the group Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU), reportedly from a medical waste driver who gave them one of the boxes he was transporting from the Washington Surgi-Clinic in Washington, D.C.  The PAAU said they wanted to hold a funeral for the dead children and bury them.

The group buried the remains of what appeared to be first-trimester abortions, but five of the dead babies were nearly full-term and they were turned over to the D.C. police

The lawmakers' letter notes that in addition to the Partial-Birth Abortion Act of 2003, Congress declared that "a moral, medical, and ethical consensus exists that the practice of performing a partial-birth abortion -- an abortion in which a physician deliberately and intentionally vaginally delivers a living, unborn child's body until either the entire baby's head is outside the body of the mother, or any part of the baby's trunk past the navel is outside the body of the mother and only the head remains inside the womb, for the purpose of performing an overt act (usually the puncturing of the back of the child's skull and removing the baby's brains) that the person knows will kill the partially delivered infant, performs this act, and then completes delivery of the dead infant -- is a gruesome and inhumane procedure that is never medically necessary and should be prohibited."

"Photos that have been publicly shared (and are enclosed in this letter) suggest that some of these
babies may have been victims of partial-birth abortion or infanticide," said the lawmakers. "In one picture, a preborn baby girl is believed to be a victim of partial-birth abortion. Dr. Kendra Kolb, a neonatologist, estimates that this baby girl is "somewhere between 28-30 weeks gestational age, with evidence of deep
lacerations to the posterior neck, which presumably correlates to the method of abortion used to end
her life."

The letter then calls on Garland and the FBI to investigate how the nearly full-term babies were killed and whether they "were aborted in violation of federal law, specifically the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban of 2003."

They further state, "justice demands that at the very least, an investigation be conducted to ensure that anyone conducting these illegal, abhorrent acts against the most innocent among us may be prosecuted."

In addition to Senator Lee, other signatories include Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), Sen. Tedd Cruz (R-Texas), Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Sen. Roger Marshall, MD (R-Kansas), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), and Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas).
