A NATION UNRAVELS - SARBUCKS CLOSES SITES DUE TO CUSTOMERS DRUGGING UP!
Starbucks Closes More Than a Dozen Stores Amid Crime Surge
Starbucks announced Monday it is closing 16 stores across the country, citing crime and safety concerns at the locations, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The company is shuttering locations in Seattle,Los Angeles,Portland, Ore.,Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Each city is governed by Democratic mayors and is undergoing a spike in crime. In a message to employees, Starbucks executives said the company has been getting "a lot" of incident reports of criminal activity, including drug use in stores. "We cannot serve as partners if we don’t first feel safe at work," they said.
Starbucks, which has lost roughly a third of its value over the past year, also announced it will give managers more leeway with store policy to deter criminals. Managers will be able to close bathrooms to deter drug use and limit customer seating. Starbucks said it will also offer baristas additional training in deescalating conflicts.
Starbucks's move comes two years after the company downplayed violence amid rioting following the murder of George Floyd. In May 2020, Starbucks released a public statement praising racial justice activists and quoting Martin Luther King Jr.'s remark that "a riot is the language of the unheard." Kevin Johnson, the company’s CEO, stressed the importance of the "courageous conversations" going on at the time.
Starbucks has worked to quash unionization efforts across the country, and two of the Seattle locations the company is closing are unionized. A Starbucks union leader when interviewed by the Journal said the company should have involved employees in the decision to close the stores.

Starbucks Corp. said Monday that it is closing 16 U.S. stores after workers reported incidents related to drug use and other disruptions in cafes.
Starbucks said it would permanently close six stores each in the Seattle and Los Angeles areas, two in Portland, Ore., and single locations in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. by the end of the month.
The company said it received reports from workers about incidents that they said involved drug use by some customers and in some cases, members of the public, in certain locations. Starbucks said it would transfer employees to other locations when it permanently closes the stores.
“We read every incident report you file—it’s a lot,” wrote U.S. operations leads Debbie Stroud and Denise Nelson in a message to U.S. employees Monday. “We cannot serve as partners if we don’t first feel safe at work,” they said, referring to the company’s term for employees.
Starbucks also said that it would give store managers leeway to close restrooms, limit seating or reduce operations in response to safety concerns. The moves are part of policies aimed at addressing workers’ concerns, including about their safety on the job, the company said.
Managers can continue to change store layouts if needed, including limiting seating to customers, the spokeswoman said. The company said it would provide additional guidance to baristas in how to deal with active shooter scenarios and conflict de-escalation at work.

Citing crime concerns, Starbucks announces closure of 5 of its Seattle coffee stores
Starbucks said workers reported safety concerns during outreach sessions after interim chief executive Howard Schultz returned to the company earlier this year.
“Like so much of the world right now, the Starbucks business as it is built today is not set up to fully satisfy the evolving behaviors, needs and expectations of our partners or customers,” Mr. Schultz wrote in a letter to employees Monday.
Starbucks said the closures included a location in Washington D.C.’s Union Station, a Los Angeles store in a touristy area at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, and a cafe in Philadelphia’s downtown City Center.
Nicky DeClerico, a 65-year-old Philadelphia resident, said he curtailed his trips to Starbucks when the Covid-19 pandemic hit. Now, he said, crime downtown has made him reluctant to return to the cafes.
Mr. DeClerico said he didn’t blame Starbucks employees for not wanting to work in urban stores, where he said thinly staffed locations could feel scary for workers. “If you have crime, nothing can survive,” he said.
A number of U.S. Starbucks locations have voted to unionize, citing concerns about benefits, staffing and operations.
The National Labor Relations Board has certified unions at 133 of Starbucks’s roughly 9,000 locations as of last month, with workers officially rejecting unionization in 15 cafes and challenges in 11 others, the agency said. Two of the stores closing in Seattle are unionized, while one store in Portland has petitioned to unionize, a Starbucks spokeswoman said.
A leader from Starbucks Workers United, a union that is organizing workers at the chain’s U.S. cafes, said employees were surprised by the decision to shutter the Seattle cafes and that the company should have involved workers more in the decision.
Mexican President AMLO Lectures Americans: Reject ‘Conservatism,’ Accept ‘Transformation’
During a press conference with President Joe Biden, AMLO attacked “the conservatives” in the United States for their opposition to the administration’s globalist agenda on energy, trade, and immigration.
“I know that your adversaries — the conservatives — are going to be screaming all over the place, even to heaven,” AMLO said. “They’re going to be yelling at heaven.”
“In the face of this crisis, the way out is not through conservatism,” he continued. “The way out is through transformation. We have to be bold in our actions. Transform not maintain the status quo.”
Instead of defending Americans, Biden seemingly agreed with AMLO.
“We have liberals, moderates, conservatives, and extreme conservatives,” Biden said. “I’m waiting for the Republican Party to come back to traditional conservative positions. We have to start to talk with them, to one another, in this country, with respect.”
AMLO also suggested that “it is indispensable” for Biden and Congress to pass amnesty for illegal aliens living in the U.S.
“It is indispensable for us to regularize and give certainty to migrants that have for years lived and worked in a very honest manner, and who are also contributing to the development of this great nation,” AMLO said.
In May, more than 222,000 border crossers and illegal aliens were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border — the largest level of monthly illegal immigration since the Clinton administration. Since Biden took office, his administration has released over a million border crossers and illegal aliens into American communities.
