The unanticipated arrival of 50 illegal immigrants to Martha's Vineyard, the elite liberal vacation hotspot and site of former president Barack Obama's $12 million mansion, forced the mainstream media to talk about the humanitarian crisis on the U.S. southern border. While most professional pundits were outraged that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R., Fla.) would dare to defile their favorite island getaway—which apparently lacks the infrastructure to support an extra 50 people—the Department of Homeland Security reported a record 2.5 million immigration encounters on the southern border for fiscal year 2022.
The immigration crisis persists despite the Biden administration's repeated efforts to ensure the American people that our southern border is secure. Vice President Kamala Harris, who has on several occasions burst out laughing when asked about the border situation, keeps insisting that everything is under control. "We have a secure border," she told NBC's Chuck Todd last week. "The border is secure." President Joe Biden's secretary of homeland security, Alejandro Mayorkas, has repeatedly claimed the administration is doing everything in its power to stop the influx of illegal immigration. These dubious statements have been dutifully echoed by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
Alas, Democratic administrations have a history of repeating falsehoods for political gain. Just ask anyone who was duped into believing former president Barack Obama's promise that everyone would be able to keep their doctors under the Obamacare regime.
Democrat Congresswoman Blames Border Crisis on Republicans
(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) said Thursday that the reason there are “challenges” at the border is because the legal pathways to immigration have been either “shut down or completely eliminated” so “we will see more irregular migration.”
The congresswoman blamed Republicans for not acting on immigration reform, saying their “strategy” is to deal with immigration “only as a border issue.”
“I think it's so important that as a country, we talk about the realities that we face when Congress fails to act on immigration reform, and what you are seeing and what reporters having documenting not just right now, but for some time, has been essentially the consequences of going it the Republican strategy, which is dealing with immigration, only as a border issue,” she told MSNBC’s “Jose Diaz-Balart Reports.”
“I’ve been talking both to local folks, as well as here in Washington, to leadership and to my colleagues. First, with regard to your question about locals, I want to make sure that our local governments have as much help as they need from the federal government,” Escobar said.
“For too long, El Paso and other border counties and communities have shouldered the responsibility of helping care for migrants. This is not the first year this has happened. El Paso has been doing this going on a decade,” the congresswoman said.
“This is the first administration, the Biden administration that has looked to as aggressively as possible, reimburse local governments, and I'm really grateful to president Biden and his administration, but here in Washington, my conversations with my colleagues are that we can and should do more with regard to opening up legal pathways,” she said.
“Everyone in the country needs to recognize that the reason we are seeing the challenges that we’re seeing on the border is because we have as a country either shut down or completely eliminated legal pathways. So when people don't have legal pathways, we will see more irregular migration,” Escobar said.
“Finally, I do want to remind the American public that the Venezuelans who are seeking asylum in our country, asylum is a legal process. Now the system was not created or set up to deal with so many people at once, but I have heard my colleagues refer in very derogatory terms to Venezuelans and other migrants, and I want to remind everyone that asylum is legal,” the congresswoman said.

Why is Joe Biden covering for Venezuela's dictator, Nicolas Maduro?
Just as news leaks out about Venezuela's socialist dictator emptying his prisons to fuel Biden's border surge, Joe Biden has announced that sending these particular foreign criminals back is "not rational."
According to Fox News:
President Biden said Tuesday that it is "not rational" to send migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border back to nations like Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua as concerns grow over the number of migrants arriving at the southern border.A reporter asked Biden why the border is "more overwhelmed on your watch."
"Because there are three countries," Biden began. "There are fewer and fewer immigrants coming from Central America than from Mexico. It’s a totally different circumstance."
"What's on my watch now is Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua, and the ability to send them back to those states is not rational," he continued.
"We're working with Mexico and other countries to see if we can stop the flow," he added.
Which is quite a policy, given what Venezuela's dictator has been doing on the migrant front.
According to Breitbart News:
A recent Department of Homeland Security intelligence report received by the Border Patrol instructs agents to look for Venezuelan inmates released from entering the U.S., according to a source within CBP. The report, reviewed by Breitbart Texas, indicates the Venezuelan government, under the leadership of Nicolás Maduro Moros, is purposely freeing inmates — including some convicted of murder, rape, and extortion.
The intelligence report warns agents the freed prisoners have been seen within migrant caravans traveling from Tapachula, Mexico toward the U.S.-Mexico border as recently as July. The source, not authorized to speak to the media, told Breitbart Texas the move is reminiscent of a similar action taken by Cuban dictator Fidel Castro during the Mariel boat lift in the 1980s.
The report does not state whether the released prison inmates were traveling as a cohesive group but does state it was commonly shared knowledge among migrants traveling to the United States within a caravan in July that many of the Venezuelan migrants in the group were convicts and included hardened criminals.
It didn't get very much press attention, but what Biden's actually saying is that as Venezuelan murderers, robbers, rapists, extortionists, fraudsters, motorcycle thugs, kidnappers, traffickers, and other plagues on society get through to the American side of the border, they should have no fear of being sent back, Joe's going to keep them here.
As with all things Biden, it was an inchoate policy mumbled on the fly with zero consideration of the implications.
The backstory here is that not only has Nicolas Maduro emptied his prisons, he's refusing to take the Venezuelan criminals back, so any Venezuelan thug who makes it to another country such as the U.S. is ours to keep forever.
Joe Biden is actually going along with that dictated term, and the result has been thousands of Venezuelan criminals now being unleashed onto the law-abiding in the U.S., with no fear of deportation.
It's a shocking capitulation, and certainly the policy of a weakling. Maduro can see what's happening and will be encouraged to empty even more prisons, the better to make room for dissidents and you can bet his brutal dictatorship's oppressiveness will intensify.
Maduro, in fact, has not only emptied his prisons of criminals to supply Joe's border surge, he's driven some 20 million Venezuelans out of their country already. Those millions, from Venezuela's ruined middle class and poor, have scattered throughout Latin America and Spain in the world's now-largest diaspora, topping even Syria for refugees released outward.
Now the latest wave from Venezuela is heading here, and you can bet that these aren't "their best" given that the productive middle classes -- the doctors, lawyers, businessmen, teachers -- have already gotten out years ago and have bolstered Miami's, Houston's, Bogota's, Lima's, and other countries' economies. This late wave is the underclass, the people who wore the red t-shirts, took the free bags of beans, and waved their fists with the late Hugo Chavez against the yanqui imperialismo for the most part. The nightmarish socialism that Maduro has inflicted upon the country, acccompanied by high crime and the trillion-plus dollars in theft and corruption, effectively robbed the people of their and their nation's wealth, and drove millions to simply just get the heck out. Now the human waves are extending to the lower and least productive classes, if not the outright criminals. This may be why Biden has suddenly changed his policy on Venezuelans -- originally vowing to return them, and now saying it's "not rational" to return them.
Biden's protestation about not being able to send the migrants back is a shocking testimony to his weakness. He obviously has no 'pull' with the Maduro-ites and they have no fear of him.
This stands in stark contrast to President Trump who had the Maduroites on edge. Trump, recall, let the boom down on Mexico when its socialist leader started sending migrants through to surge on in. He shut down the U.S.-Mexico border, halted trade, vowed to end NAFTA, and read Mexico the Riot Act should it keep this little migrant-surge act up.
As as result, Mexico played ball, treaties were signed, such as the "Remain in Mexico" agreement, and the migrant surge slowed to a trickle. As a bonus that will never be seen under Biden, relations between the U.S. and Mexican leader, became utterly cordial and cooperative. That's leadership.
No such luck with Biden at the helm. He couldn't even get Latin American leaders who've taken vast amounts of American aid to turn up at his hosted Summit of the Americas last year. His influence on leaders in the region is nil.
The implications of this policy, suffice to say, are incredibly bad and from multiple directions.
For illegal aliens, Biden's claim about migrant returns is an open invitation to try to cross the border while the crossing is good. The message sent is that if you are Venezuelan and you come to the U.S. without authorization, you won't be sent back. Look forward to more migrants from more countries with similar recalcitrant governments to join the surge. Africa, for one, is loaded with them.
For Maduro, it's a feather in his cap that he can do whatever he wants with Uncle Sam, and with Joe at the helm, Joe will go along. Penalties are nil, and the U.S. is a paper tiger. That perception is particularly boosted by Biden's incompetent diplomatic team on Venezuela and Biden's open desire to buy Venezuelan oil to offset his production shutdowns here in the states. Biden, to Maduro, is a beggar.
For other countries' governments, particularly the cynical poor ones that send their underclasses as a pressure valve to head off protests at their government's incompetence and corruption, the word is out to them, too -- why take back nationals when Venezuela has set the Biden standard that if you don't take back your nationals, America will keep them? Look for more nations to suddenly say they won't take their nationals back since Maduro won't, with some emptying their prisons to boot.
For Americans, lie back and take the criminals Joe brought to you. You have no voice, no interests, and no right to rule of law.
Sen. Tuberville: More Terrorist Watchlist Encounters Because ‘We Have an Open Border’ With Mexico
(CNS News) – When asked why so many people on the terrorist watchlist are being encountered at the U.S.-Mexico border compared to previous years – 78 so far this fiscal year – Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) said it was because “we have an open border,” and that “it’s going to get worse.”
At the Capitol on Sept. 20, CNS News asked Senator Tuberville, “According to Customs and Border Protection, in fiscal year 2020 it encountered three people on the terrorist watchlist trying to cross the Southwest border between the ports of entry. Last year, it encountered 15. In the first 11 months of this fiscal year it had encountered 78. Why do you think there has been an increase?”
Tuberville replied, “Because we have an open border. They know to come and, you know, they all make plans all over the world -- ‘hey, we can get in’ -- no matter who you are. So, they’re coming by the droves and it’s going to get worse.”
As CNS News has reported, “The 78 Border Patrol encounters with people on the terrorist watchlist reported in the first eleven months of this fiscal year is 5.2 times the 15 encounters that occurred through all of fiscal 2021.
“In fiscal 2017, according to the CBP data, the Border Patrol only had 2 encounters with individuals on the terrorist watchlist between the ports of entry on the Southwest border. In fiscal 2018, it was 6. In fiscal 2019, it was zero. In fiscal 2020, it was 3. In fiscal 2021, it was 15. Then, in October through August of this fiscal year, it was 78.”
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Terrorist Screening Dataset (TSDS) holds sensitive information on terrorist identities. Although TSDS originally contained information on only known or suspected terrorists (KSTs), it now includes individuals that pose a potential threat to the U.S.
Sen. Rubio: Terrorists Aren't Turning Themselves in to Border Agents
(CNSNews.com) - In the first eleven months of fiscal 2022 (October through August), the Border Patrol encountered 78 people on the terrorist watchlist trying to come into this country between the Southwest border ports of entry.
As CNSNews.com reported, that's a more than five-fold increase from the 15 people on terrorist watchlist apprehended by Border Patrol agents in FY 2021.
"But the problem is that those are the ones we know about," Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) told Fox News Wednesday morning.
"Okay, so most people crossing the border -- they've all been coached. This is an industry. They coach you up. These are the magic words you have to say, you turn yourself in to a border agent, you say these magic words and you'll be released, by the way, with a fake address. No one's talking about that. DHS is now giving people, migrants, if they don't have an address, they give them a fake address in the United States.
"But people are turning themselves in. If you know you're a terrorist, you're not turning yourself in. So the 78 is but a small sliver of what we suspect is a much broader group of people linked to groups in the Middle East -- the terrorism; but also terrorist groups in our hemisphere, the ELN and the FARC. Two communist, terrorist, narco-trafficking organizations in Columbia and the Venezuela region. There are people linked to that. In fact, I think that's the single largest group of terrorists that have been apprehended that have been sent here.
"And what we don't even know --and I think we need to be looking into it, there's been reports on this. Is there a strategy here? Is Venezuela deliberately, or are other countries deliberately sending people here that they believe will cause harm within the United States? We also don't know the answer to that, but there's some suspicion that might be the case.
"None of this is going to be answered by this administration because they don't care. They really literally do not care."
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says a record 2,150,639 foreigners have showed up at the southwest border so far this fiscal year -- 1,997,769 of them crossing illegally between southwest ports of entry, and the rest (152,870) either requested asylum or were deemed inadmissible by CBP's Office of Field Operations, which includes Customs/ports of entry.
"Failing communist regimes in Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba are driving a new wave of migration across the Western Hemisphere, including the recent increase in encounters at the southwest U.S. border," said Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Chris Magnus in a news release announcing the latest statistics (see chart below).
"But it's not just from those three countries," Sen. Rubio said on Wednesday.
"It's from all over the world. I mean, there are literally people from over 100 different countries entering the border, crossing the border. It's an industry.
"Okay, there are flights from Turkey that are bringing people from Turkey and the Middle East into Mexico into Cancun and then from there crossing the border. It's from everywhere, it's uncontrolled, it's out of control.
“And the hypocrisy of all these communities that say, oh we welcome these immigrants, we want them here. But within 24 hours Martha's vineyard had deported the immigrants to Cape Cod."

Biden’s Open-border Policies are Killing Americans
Daily, the American public is confronted with images of illegal aliens invading our country. The United States has been a stable republic because we have advocated and practiced being a nation of laws. When governments become hostile to the rule of law, they undermine Americanism.
As states along the southern border struggle to handle this mass inflow of humanity, prompted by Democrat’s abandonment of law, buses and planes are now transporting arriving aliens to lawless sanctuary cities around the country. These anti-American cities include Chicago, New York, and even the nation’s capital. To anyone who has seen these images, it has become clear that the open-border policies of the Biden administration have led to a multi-pronged health, humanitarian, and national security disaster.
Less visible, but deadly, is the corresponding spike in China-sponsored fentanyl that has been smuggled across the border and is closely tied to the hordes of illegal aliens. While certainly not as harrowing a visual as unlawful aliens crossing and dying in the Rio Grande, the ultimate impact of the drug has been felt even more acutely in many communities across the country and is similarly difficult to escape.
For the first time ever in 2021 the United States surpassed 100,000 drug overdose deaths. Fentanyl accounted for over 70,000 of those deaths and is 100 times more potent than morphine. The Chinese poison is now found “in everything” in the illicit drug supply chain and has been used to lace other street drugs ranging from marijuana to cocaine, with deadly results.
Two major Mexican drug cartels, the Sinaloa and Jalisco organizations, now control the vast majority of the fentanyl trade. As such, they have capitalized on the Biden-sponsored chaos at the border to smuggle staggering amounts of the drug into the United States. Drug interdictions can be a useful proxy to gauge smuggling activity and in 2021, nearly 11,200 pounds of fentanyl was seized at the southern border. This is a staggering increase from the 2,633 pounds seized in 2019 and is more than all that was seized both in 2019 and 2020 combined. So far in 2022 over 11,000 pounds of fentanyl have been seized at the border and with a few months left to go in the year, we are again on track for another deadly record.
The sheer scale of how much fentanyl is being manufactured is difficult to fathom. Over the last six months 320 tons of fentanyl was seized in Mexico, and U.S. seizures of counterfeit pills amounted to more than 20 million last year. These counterfeit pills are especially insidious because they are made to look like legitimate pharmaceuticals but actually contain dangerous amounts of fentanyl -- as many as 4 in 10 counterfeit pills contained lethal amounts of the drug according to one Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) analysis.
Even more horrifically, children are increasingly getting caught up in this fourth wave of the opioid crisis. Too many stories have surfaced in recent years of straight-A students who unknowingly purchased one counterfeit pharmaceutical pill on social media and wound up dead the next day. The concerning recent advent of “rainbow fentanyl” further demonstrates the measures to which dealers are now going to market this deadly drug to children. Data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has found that fentanyl overdoses have among teens tripled over the past two years, giving the drug the dubious distinction as the leading cause of death among young adults. Sadly, the Biden regime and the Democrat political majority in Congress keep this threat alive through promotion of illegal immigration and a lawless border.
The Democrat party is also responsible for keeping #1 ranked tennis pros out of America while allowing illegal aliens, infected with the China virus, to stroll right into Texas, unscreened and unleashed on an unsuspecting American population. Increased incidents of terrorist apprehensions at the border have alarmed Americans who do not believe in allowing our enemies access to our people. It bears pointing out that those are the terrorists we caught. Nobody actually knows how many terror cells escaped detection to enter the U.S. courtesy of the open border.
Joe Biden’s continued refusal to visit the southern border represents a malign neglect on behalf of the regime. As a result, we have been left with underfunded and demoralized border agents who cannot see a path forward under the lawless leadership of the current occupant of the Oval Office.
There is not a singlene silver bullet that will enable America to end its ongoing opioid crisis, national security crisis, and the public health crisis imposed by the Democrat Party. The GOP must abandon its sad devotion to woke companies that have been demanding cheap labor, while simultaneously undermining the rights of American citizens. If the GOP is to remain relevant, it must propose, pass, and include real border security in a so-called, “must pass bill.” The Democrats have shown human life means little to them. Now America will see if the GOP can do better.

Border Patrol Encounters With Individuals on Terrorist Watchlist Illegally Crossing Southwest Border Up 5-Fold Since Last Year
(CNSNews.com) - The number of times the U.S. Border Patrol has encountered an individual on the terrorist watchlist attempting to illegally cross the southwest border between the legal ports of entry in fiscal 2022 is already up more than five-fold from fiscal 2021.
In fiscal 2021, according to data released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Border Patrol had 15 encounters between the Southwest border ports of entry with individuals on the terrorist watchlist.
In the first eleven months of fiscal 2022 (October through August), the Border Patrol had 78 encounters between the Southwest border ports of entry with individuals on the terrorist watchlist.
The 78 Border Patrol encounters with people on the terrorist watchlist reported in the first eleven months of this fiscal year is 5.2 times the 15 encounters that occurred through all of fiscal 2021.
In fiscal 2017, according to the CBP data, the Border Patrol only had 2 encounters with individuals on the terrorist watchlist between the ports of entry on the Southwest border. In fiscal 2018, it was 6. In fiscal 2019, it was zero. In fiscal 2020, it was 3. In fiscal 2021, it was 15. Then, in October through August of this fiscal year, it was 78.
At the same time that the number of encounters with individuals on the terrorist watchlist between the ports of entry on the Southwest border has increased, the number at the ports of entry themselves has decreased.
In fiscal 2021, CBP had 103 encounters at the Southwest border ports of entry with individuals on the watchlist. In the first eleven months of fiscal 2022, that has dropped to 63.
CBP also reports that so far this year it has had no encounters with individuals on the terrorist watchlist trying to enter the country between the ports of entry on the Northern border. However, in the first eleven months of this fiscal year, CBP has had 279 encounters with individuals on the terrorist watchlist trying to cross at the ports of entry along the Northern border.
That is up from 54 encounters with watchlisted individuals at Northern border ports of entry in fiscal 2021.
“The Terrorist Screening Dataset (TSDS)–also known as the ‘watchlist’–is the U.S. government’s database that contains sensitive information on terrorist identities,” says CBP. “The TSDS originated as the consolidated terrorist watchlist to house information on known or suspected terrorists (KSTs) but has evolved over the last decade to include additional individuals who represent a potential threat to the United States, including known affiliates of watchlisted individuals.”
The smuggling is managed by Biden’s pro-migration border chief, Alejandro Mayorkas, who runs the Department of Homeland Security. Much of Mayorkas’ smuggling — including the nighttime flights — has been funded by taxpayer money transferred from various federal programs to contractor-run buses and non-profit shelters. Catholic Charities is one of the leading groups, and it operates bus services from the border to New York.
Texas Governor Orders ‘Dismantling’ of Mexican Cartel ‘Terrorist’ Organizations
Texas Governor Greg Abbott designated specific Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations and ordered the Department of Public Safety to begin dismantling their infrastructure. The move comes as record levels of the deadly drug fentanyl are being pushed across the border.
“Fentanyl is a clandestine killer, and Texans are falling victim to the Mexican cartels that are producing it,” Governor Abbott said during a border security round table in Midland, Texas, on Wednesday. “Cartels are terrorists, and it’s time we treated them that way. In fact, more Americans died from fentanyl poisoning in the past year than all terrorist attacks across the globe in the past 100 years. In order to save our country, particularly our next generation, we must do more to get fentanyl off our streets.”
Specifically, the governor identified the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation Cartels (CJNG) as terrorist organizations. He requested President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris create federal terrorist designations for these cartels and others producing and distributing fentanyl.
Abbott also directed the Texas Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement agencies to identify Texas gangs that support Mexican drug cartels. He directed that the funds of these gangs and other criminal enterprises that are supporting the cartels.
In the letter to Washington, D.C., Abbott wrote:
Mexican drug cartels terrorize the United States and its citizens every day, leaving thousands of dead bodies in their wake. Their latest weapons of choice are the millions of tiny pills laced with fentanyl that they pour across our southern border. As a result, it is necessary, now more than ever, for you to designate the Sinaloa Cartel, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, and any similarly situated Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). This move would help us fight back against these terrorists and disrupt their deadly attacks on America.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 75,000 Americans died from drug overdoses that involved fentanyl between February 2021 and February 2022. To put that in context, the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism reports there were 3,905 deaths of Americans in terrorist attacks worldwide between 1995 and 2019, most of them occurring on September 11, 2001. In this light, the magnitude of the terrorism related to the introduction of fentanyl by Mexican drug cartels is astonishing.

The reason for the explosion of fentanyl deaths in America is that the Mexican drug cartels are trafficking fentanyl across our southern border at a greater rate than ever, thanks to your openborder policies.
“In an April 2021 letter to you both, I made this request for designation. There was no action, no response,” Abbott concluded. “But if you are ready to make Americans safer, it will be better late than never. As the number of American deaths continues to rise due to the cartels’ terrorist behavior, now is the time to act. We do not have more time to waste.”
Officials in the governor’s office added, “With Mexican drug cartels disguising fentanyl as counterfeit pills and targeting children with ‘rainbow fentanyl’ pills, the Governor emphasizes in his letter that immediate decisive action is needed from the Biden Administration to combat this deadly crisis impacting the nation.”
The governor met in Midland for a border security round table attended by DPS Director Steve McCraw, DPS Regional Director West Texas Region Jose Sanchez, Midland County Judge Terry Johnson, Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis, Midland County Sheriff Chief Deputy Benny Matlock, Odessa Police Chief Mike Gerke, Midland Police Chief Seth Herman, and Midland Memorial Hospital District Police Chief Steve McNeill.
The governor also directed state agencies on Tuesday to begin preparations for the next session of the Texas Legislature. The governor ordered the agencies to “outline statutory changes, budget priorities, and other initiatives that will enhance the state’s ability to interdict the synthetic opioid, provide emergency overdose treatment, and expand substance abuse treatment programs.”
“We must take all appropriate actions to inform Texans of this danger and prevent additional deaths,” Abbott said to the agency leaders. “Together we can help bring awareness to the threat posed by fentanyl and do our part to address this crisis.”
Under Operation Lone Star, the Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas National Guard seized more than 335 million lethal doses of fentanyl, the governor’s office reported.
Instead, under pressure from GOP donors, the GOP legislators treat Biden’s migration as a non-pocketbook issue of border chaos, migrant crime, and drug smuggling.
