Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has personally thanked U.S. President Joe Biden for supplying Kyiv with another “security aid package” worth $725 million.

“Sincerely grateful to [the President of the United States and] the [American] people for providing another $725 mln security aid package,” the Ukrainian head of state said in a message posted on the Twitter microblogging site.

“We will receive, in particular, much-needed rounds for HIMARS and artillery,” he added.

“A wonderful gift for [Ukrainian] Defenders’ Day! The Russian aggressor will be defeated, [Ukraine] will be free!”

HIMARS, more properly the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, manufactured by Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, is reported to have been something of a gamechanger on the Ukrainian battlefield, allowing Ukrainain forces to at least partly overcome what had been a significant artillery disadvantage versus the Russians and strike targets including munitions dumps well behind enemy lines.

The Wall Street Journal, which was permitted to embed with a HIMARS unit, reported earlier in October that HIMARS was “responsible for 70 per cent of military advances on the Kherson front”, citing unit commander Lt. Valentyn Koval — but the claim has not been independently verified.

Kherson, a region north of the Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, fell to Russian forces in the early stages of their all-out invasion in February, a rare point of relative success compared to the failed offensive out of Belarus toward Kyiv (Kiev) and their later grinding, now faltering efforts in Donbas. It was formally annexed to the Russian Federation along with three other occupied regions at the end of September following largely unrecognised referendums.

Now, a Ukrainian counter-offensive is threatening to drive Russia out of much of Kherson, with Russian-backed officials in the regional capital, also called Kherson, moving to evacuate residents to Russia proper before the Ukrainians can arrive.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Eagle Pass, Texas, recently found Halloween decorations filled with a large amount of methamphetamine.

“On Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, CBP officers assigned to Eagle Pass Camino Real International Bridge encountered a 2012 Ford Escape arriving from Mexico. A CBP officer referred the vehicle for further inspection,” the agency said in a press release Wednesday.

Following another examination, officers found nearly 44 pounds of alleged liquid methamphetamine inside 136 condoms hidden within four pumpkins that had been placed in the car.

“CBP OFO seized the narcotics, vehicle and turned the driver and passenger over to the custody of Maverick County Sheriff’s Office deputies for further investigation,” the agency continued.

A photo showed an official holding one of the gourds open to reveal its contents:

Methamphetamine is described as a powerful and highly addictive substance that affects a person’s central nervous system, according to WebMD.

“There is no legal use for methamphetamine. It is a manufactured substance that causes an immediate euphoric reaction,” the site read, adding that side effects include paranoia, rotting teeth, “thinning body,” stroke, and death.

In September, border protection officers in Del Rio seized over 1,300 pounds of methamphetamine as it was being smuggled across the port of entry from Mexico into Texas, Breitbart News reported.

“The drugs represent the largest seizure of methamphetamine in the history of the Del Rio Port of Entry,” the outlet said, adding the estimated value of the drugs was $11.9 million.

A photo showed the drugs stacked on a long metal table:

Meanwhile, the White House claimed in August that President Joe Biden (D) was successful in securing the nation’s border even though there has been a record number of drug overdoses under his leadership, and migrants continued flooding the country, according to Breitbart News.

“In 2021, more than 107,000 Americans died from drug overdoses, a record number in the United States, up 15 percent from the previous year,” the outlet said at the time. “Under Biden’s presidency, 4.9 million migrants have crossed the border since he took office.”

In this April 26, 2018, file photo, a man lies on the sidewalk beside a recyclable trash bin in San Francisco. A record 621 people died of drug overdoses in San Francisco so far this year, a staggering number that far outpaces the 173 deaths from COVID-19 the city has seen thus far. The crisis fueled by the powerful painkiller fentanyl could have been far worse if it wasn’t for the nearly 3,000 times Narcan was used from January to the beginning of November to save someone from the brink of death, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday, December 19, 2020. WATCH: Deported Venezuelan Migrants Shut Down Texas Border Port of Entry

MATAMOROS, MEXICO - FEBRUARY 24: Mexican nationals walk across the Gateway International Bridge into Mexico after being deported by U.S. immigration authorities on February 24, 2021 in Matamoros, Mexico. Approximately 60 previously deported Venezuelan migrants rushed the northbound lane of an international port of entry leading to Brownsville, Texas, Friday. The effort forced a shutdown of the port for several hours.

The port rush was performed as an act of protest.

Photographs and videos depicted the migrants as having painted their hands white as a sign of peace. Some of the males chained themselves to each other as they approached the port of entry to prevent against official efforts to disperse the men.

Mexican authorities were unable to stop the group from entering the facilities of Gateway International Bridge as they made their way toward the U.S. side. Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection rapidly set up barricades and preventative measures to keep individuals from trying to force their way further north.

By 1:20 p.m., Gloria Chavez, Rio Grande Valley Chief Patrol agent, told the protesters that due to a new policy, Venezuelan migrants who enter the country illegally would be sent to Mexico. She told the group that they needed to follow the current legal procedure if they wanted to enter or claim asylum.

Exclusive—Rep. August Pfluger: Biden’s Border Crisis of No Consequences

I recently returned from a trip to a Customs and Border Protection Processing Site in McAllen, Texas. I surveyed the lacking border fencing and watched as illegal migrants were allowed to walk into the United States. The message I received from Border Patrol is that under this administration, there are no consequences for illegal immigration, but deathly consequences for American citizens.

The CDC estimates that in the 12-month period ending in October 2021, more than 105,000 Americans died of drug overdoses, with 66 percent of those deaths related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl. Last year, the United States suffered more fentanyl-related deaths than gun and auto-related deaths combined.

Just last week in West Texas, a police officer in Seminole, Texas, was shot by an illegal immigrant on a routine traffic stop. It was an illegal immigrant who went on a stabbing spree in Las Vegas, killing two people and brutally injuring six others. How many Americans have to die before this president will acknowledge the national security crisis he has created with his policy of no consequences?

It is chaos and a crisis like none other.

Since President Biden has been in office, there have been nearly 3.6 million migrant encounters at the Southwest border and over 900,000 known gotaways who evaded U.S. Border Patrol agents. This means that 4.5 million illegal migrants have exploited the lack of law and order along our border.

Coyotes and cartels have been put in control of our border, and members of these criminal gangs are operating freely inside the United States without consequences.

The journey of getting to the border is heartbreaking. I saw children as young as 9 and 10 years old who were trafficked to our border alone. At least 30 percent of the women who are trafficked by cartels and coyotes to the border are sexually assaulted, and the 30-day journey continues to get more dangerous by the day. Estimates suggest that at least one-third of all migrants have been the victims of severe brutality or sexual violence.

Studies done by the Latin American branch of the Coalition Against Trafficking In Women also estimate that 60 percent of Latin American children who set out to cross the border alone or with smugglers have been caught by the cartels and are being abused in child pornography or drug trafficking. In addition to this terrible reality, these migrants are not free and clear when they make it to America. Many of them still owe debts to the cartels and coyotes that they will spend years or the rest of their lives repaying. This means there are millions of undocumented migrants living in the shadows evading the American rule of law but continuing to answer to the cartel system of chaos.

One of the most sickening things that I came across was a Mexican national and convicted felon who was living illegally on the American side of the border. On his wrist was a tattoo of a skull being crushed, which is indicative of his job as a “punisher” for the Mexican cartels. This felon enforces cartel laws within the United States.

It is striking that the Mexican cartels have more political will to enforce their own laws than the Biden administration. Cartels are making billions profiting on the backs of the most vulnerable population while abusing, assaulting, and driving them into pseudo-slavery. They are dropping dangerous drugs like fentanyl over our borders using drones, tracking shift changes, and conducting crimes in understaffed areas.

Before January 2021, there were 30,000-40,000 illegal crossings on average per month. The level of Border Patrol agents and processing staff are equipped to handle this number. However, under the Biden administration, an average of 200,000 have crossed in a month. Now the same agents are expected to handle six times the number of illegal migrants, as well as the traffickers and cartels who have also been emboldened by the lack of consequences. Even more harrowing is that roughly 60 percent of agents are relegated to administrative duties, leaving an incredibly frightening gap in those continuing into the national security aspects of border security.

We do not need new laws. We need President Biden to have the political will to enforce the laws we do have. If he refuses, Congress must use the power of the purse to compel him.

Republicans have a Commitment to America. One of the key pillars within our plan is a nation that is safe, and that starts at our southern border. There is no other crisis more important to our national security. We want to fully fund effective border enforcement strategies, infrastructure, and advanced technology to prevent illegal crossings and stop trafficking by cartels.

Americans have had enough of these open border policies. Let’s get back to order at our border.

Rep. August Pfluger represents Texas’ 11th congressional district in the U.S. House.
