Obama's DHS Secretary Admits 'Immigration Problem' Is 'Much Bigger' Under Biden
The southern border is a much "bigger problem" than at any time during the Obama years, according to the former president’s secretary of homeland security.
Jeh Johnson, who served under former president Barack Obama from 2013 to the end of his second term, said the nation’s immigration crisis is so out of control that his old job has fundamentally changed. The United States is now seeing as many migrants crossing the border in the course of two months that he would see in an entire year, Johnson said in an interview with David Lat on Wednesday.
"Well, the job, first of all, is different than it was when I was in office seven, eight years ago," Johnson said. "The current secretary was my deputy secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas. The job is different. The immigration problem is much bigger than it was."
Johnson’s comments highlight how even fellow Democrats have few kind words for DHS secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s handling of the border crisis. More than five million migrants have crossed the border since Biden has taken office, the highest number ever recorded in U.S. history.
As for advice, Johnson didn’t have much to say. Staying on message, Johnson said, was one of the biggest lessons he learned from his time in the Obama administration.
"And so sometimes the essence of the job is repeating over and over again one simple, straightforward message that you want people to hear," Johnson said.
House Republicans have pledged to impeach Mayorkas over his handling of the southern border. The House Judiciary Committee is expected to hold its first hearing on the border in February.
NYTimes: Mayorkas Smuggled 100,000 Job-Seeking Migrants Through Parole Pathway
President Joe Biden’s border chief smuggled more than 100,000 economic migrants into the United States from May to December via a hidden “parole” pathway that was admitted on January 12.
Border chief Alejandro Mayorkas — a Cuban-born, equity-above-the-law, business-friendly, pro-migration zealot — is welcoming another 20,000 migrants per month via this parole pathway, officials told friendly reporters at a background briefing on January 25.
Many establishment reporters who cover the migration beat were unwilling or unable to describe the covert migration pathway, even though it was exposed in November by Todd Bensman at the Center for Immigration Studies.
The admissions and data came as GOP officials in 20 states filed a lawsuit against the hidden inflow. The inflow illegally heaps additional costs on states and their taxpayers, the lawsuit says. It also adds to the pocketbook damage done to ordinary Americans by Washington’s policy of importing more of the workers, renters, and consumers that spike values on Wall Street.
The New York Times was given an official briefing on the parole pathway. The pathway has been given a legal-sounding, jargon-style name — “CBP One” — to hide its purpose, scale, and impact:
[Before January 12] the CBP One process was open only to migrants who were recommended by a [government-approved] nonprofit organization, which applied on their behalf. From May to December, more than 109,000 migrants entered the United States this way.
Those parole pathway migrants were not included in the 1.3 million illegal migrants that were welcomed by Mayorkas’ agency during fiscal year 2022.
Officials are now using the parole pathway to import 20,000 more migrants each month, said the New York Times. That Biden inflow delivers 240,000 more migrants per year, despite the 1986 ban on corporate hiring of illegal workers.
Officials recently declared they will also use the same parole pathway to import an additional 360,000 migrants per year from Haiti, Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
Together, the two inflows — 240,000 and 350,000 — would add at least 600,000 extra economic migrants per year to the U.S. economy.
That huge labor inflow is roughly one extra migrant for every seven Americans who enter the workforce each year.
Under laws set in 1990, Congress caps legal immigration at about 1 million people per year. Administration officials also import roughly 800,000 temporary workers each year. So the plan to import 600,000 extra migrants far exceeds the cap set by Congress.
In 2022, Mayorkas also allowed 2 million illegal migrants through the border, including about 600,000 “gotaways” who have been told they will not be deported if they do not commit felonies.
That elite-delivered 2022 flood of about 4 million migrants forced down Americans’ wages and reduced high-tech investment in workplaces. It pushed many older, sicker, and slower Americans out of jobs, wages, and eventually, homes, while spiking investors’ profits and stock values.
“Young and middle-aged American men are less likely to be working now than at any time in U.S. history,” says a January 2023 study authored by Jonathan Rothwell. “The official labor force participation rate for prime-aged men fell from 97.1% in 1960 to 88.6% in 2022 (averaged through November), using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Current Population Survey,” said Rothwell, the top economist at the Gallup polling firm.
But the New York Times does not include any criticism of Mayorkas’s labor-smuggling operation. Instead, the headline and subheadline portray the massive inflow as an apparent reduction in illegal migrants:
Biden Officials Credit New Border Measures for Decline in Illegal Crossings
Crossings by migrants from Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Haiti have plummeted, but Republicans and some Democrats have attacked the new policies.
The newspaper includes several pro-migration editors, and so the article quotes pro-migration advocates who say the hidden labor pathway is too small:
Immigration advocates working with migrants in Mexico and the United States say the system leaves the neediest migrants — the ones who do not have smartphones or cannot afford to stay in Mexican hotels with internet access — at a disadvantage.
“CBP One, is turning out to be as awful as we predicted,” one advocacy organization, Al Otro Lado, wrote in a Twitter post on Tuesday. Migrants with resources like a smartphone and Wi-Fi “are the ones getting appointments, not the most vulnerable.”
Al Otro Lado has worked with the FWD.us advocacy group for West Coast billionaires. The fund was created by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and many other wealthy investors who gain from the inflow of cheap labor, compliant workers, high-occupancy renters, and government-aided consumers.
The establishment press does not ask Mayorkas about the pocketbook impact of his easy-migration policies on ordinary Americans.
The hands-off approach is similar to that of the establishment GOP, which focuses on border chaos and drug smuggling rather than the rising rents and shrinking wages imposed by elites on ordinary Americans.
For example, on January 8, a White House reporter asked Mayorkas: “What is your message to the American public about the impact of a labor shortage in America?”
Mayorkas responded by calling for an even greater skew of the nation’s labor market in favor of employers and investors:
The labor shortage in the United States is one powerful example of how desperately we need to fix our broken immigration system. You know, we look to the north … Canada realized that it has a 1-million-person labor shortage there, and they are bringing in approximately 1.4 million migrants this year to address that labor shortage.
Our programs — our H-2A, our H-2B, our skilled worker programs — are far outdated to really meet the economic needs as well as the economic opportunities [for migrants] that immigration can provide.
The federal government has long operated an economic policy of Extraction Migration.
This colonialism-like policy extracts vast amounts of human resources from needy countries and uses the imported workers, renters, and consumers to grow Wall Street and the economy. In December 2022, for example, Mayorkas added roughly one low-wage, work-ready Latino or Asian migrant for every American who turned 18 that month.
The migrant inflow has successfully forced down Americans’ wages and also boosted rents and housing prices. The inflow has also pushed many native-born Americans out of careers in a wide variety of business sectors and contributed to the rising death rate of poor Americans.
The population inflow also reduces the political clout of native-born Americans, because it allows elites — including New York Times editors and writers — to divorce themselves from the needs and interests of ordinary Americans.
A 54 percent majority of Americans say Biden is allowing a southern border invasion, according to an August 2022 poll commissioned by the left-of-center National Public Radio (NPR). The 54 percent “Invasion” majority included 76 percent of Republicans, 46 percent of independents, and even 40 percent of Democrats.

Many Democrats understand that the welfare checks for foreign children will encourage more illegal immigration, he said:
They know what’s going on. But they know that they can’t say what their true goal is, which is actual open borders with open, uncontrolled migration both ways. And this is a step toward getting rid of borders.

California Makes History: First State in U.S. Giving Food Stamps to Illegal Aliens
The sanctuary state of California will make history by becoming the first state in the nation to give food stamps to illegal aliens.
This week, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced a budget deal with Democrat state legislators that includes providing food stamps, paid for by California’s taxpayers, to illegal aliens 55 and older — the first initiative of its kind in the United States.
An executive with the group Nourish California told the Fresno Bee that the policy is historic for the state, saying, “California is once again making history by removing xenophobic exclusions to our state’s safety net.”
Expansion of the state’s CalFresh food stamps program will cost California’s taxpayers more than $35 million and about 75,000 illegal aliens are expected to enroll every year.
The move comes as Newsom’s budget deal will also ensure that California is the first state in the nation to provide taxpayer-funded health insurance to all of its 3.3 million illegal aliens.
Offering taxpayer-funded health insurance to its entire illegal alien population, the largest in the nation, is expected to cost California’s taxpayers about $2.4 billion annually. The plan is scheduled to begin in 2024.

BIDEN PARTNERS WITH MEXICO TO ORCHESTRATE ANOTHER MASSIVE MEX INVASION OF DEM VOTING ILLEGALS.

"Mexican president candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador called for mass immigration to the United States, declaring it a "human right". We will defend all the (Mexican) invaders in the American," Obrador said, adding that immigrants "must leave their towns and find a life, job, welfare, and free medical in the United States."
"Fox’s Tucker Carlson noted Thursday that Obrador has previously proposed granting AMNESTY TO MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS. “America is now Mexico’s social safety net, and that’s a very good deal for the Mexican ruling class,” Carlson added."
"Many Americans forget is that our country is located against a socialist failed state that is promising to descend even further into chaos – not California, the other one. And the Mexicans, having reached the bottom of the hole they have dug for themselves, just chose to keep digging by electing a new leftist presidente who wants to surrender to the cartels and who thinks that Mexicans have some sort of “human right” to sneak into the U.S. and demographically reconquer it." As in 2016, Democrats advance a corrupt ruling-class candidate. Like the dead man Gary Ernst, Democrats want people to vote for Joe Biden so they can swap him out for Kamala Harris, already a beneficiary of voter fraud and with the exception of Xavier Becerra possibly the worst attorney general in California history.
Joe Biden, Adam Schiff Parade in Populist Drag to Hide Cheap-Labor Migration Policies
Pro-migration Democrats are parading in pro-American populist drag as they try to hide their huge transfer of foreign workers into Americans’ jobs before the 2024 election.
The Democratic pretense of solidarity with ordinary Americans puts more pressure on GOP legislators to follow through on their zig-zag populist policies — and to shoulder aside the relentless pressure from the GOP’s donor class for more migrants.
“Wages are up, and they’re growing faster than inflation,” President Joe Biden claimed at a January 26 union event in Springfield Virginia. With a backdrop promising “Good Jobs, Lower Costs, Better Pay,” he declared:
Over the past six months, inflation has gone down every month and, God willing, will continue to do that. Manufacturing jobs continue to go up, stronger than any time in the last 40 years. And I don’t think it’s unfair to say that this is all evidence that the Biden economic plan, because of you all, is actually working. It’s working. (Applause.) It really is.
…
We’re moving in the right direction. Now we’ve got to protect those gains. We’ve got to protect those gains that our policies have generated — protect them from the MAGA Republicans in the House of Representatives who are threatening to destroy this progress.
Bitden touted his big-spending, job-generating spending programs — but he did not mention the immigration that will fill many of those jobs.
Biden also did not mention how his easy-migration policy is shrinking Americans’ wages and spiking their housing costs:
Biden also claimed that his policies are creating jobs in regions largely abandoned by U.S. investors after the federal government approved free-trade outsourcing to China:
When jobs moved overseas, factories at home closed down. Once-thriving cities and towns became shadows of what they used to be … How many people do you know — relatives around the country — where their kids go to a decent school, they graduate from high school, and they go, “Mom, I got to move. There’s no jobs here” …. [Now they] don’t have to talk to their parents about this anymore, about having to leave home so they can get a decent job.
But his migration policies encourage investors to create jobs in high-migration coastal states — such as New York and California — and to ignore midwestern, GOP-run states.
“The speech [is]a potential preview of what Biden might say on the campaign trail in 2024,” the Washington Post reported.
Similarly, Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff portrayed himself as a populist in a January 26 interview about his entry into California’s 2024 Senate race:
What I want to put forward is my vision for the state of California and the willingness to fight just as hard as I have in the House to ensure that our economy can produce good jobs, that people have livable wages, that they can access good, affordable health care. This is what I want to fight for.
Schiff has supported Biden’s cheap-labor policies. For example, Schiff’s website declares:
America is a nation founded by, built, and made better by immigrants … Adam believes that our current immigration system needs comprehensive reform – anything short of that is not enough … Adam is proud to support efforts to enact comprehensive immigration legislation, including the U.S. Citizenship Act … This legislation would also institute critical reforms to improve the family-based and employment-based immigration systems.
The Democrats’ wealth-shifting labor migration is increasingly unpopular among swing voters who are alarmed by slack wages and rising inflation.
Despite the media’s near-blackout on the scale and cost of migration, 35 percent of the respondents in an August 2022 poll said immigration makes the United States “Worse off.” Just 31 percent said immigration makes the U.S. “Better off,” according to the July 23-26 poll of 1,500 citizens.
The opposition jumps when voters are given a safe angle to show their views — 76 percent of swing-voting independents want the Title 42 border barrier to be preserved, according to a December poll by Harvard CAPS and Harris. The view was shared by 80 percent of Republicans, 79 percent of Democrats, 67 percent of Hispanics, and 77 percent of blacks.
However, Democrats have been protected for years from voter backlash by donor-backed Republicans. In general, establishment Republicans ignore the pocketbook costs of migration. Instead, they spotlight border chaos and drugs as they try to boost election turnout by the party’s base voters.
But GOP legislators are bending under public pressure to and may begin to showcase the painful pocketbook costs — such as rising rents — of Biden’s migration.
Biden’s Cheap-Labor Economics
Since 2021, Biden and his deputies have invited 3.5 million economic migrants across the southern border. That huge inflow is in addition to the legal inflow of at least 3 million legal immigrants, refugees, and temporary workers.
“We’re trying to make it easier for people to get here, opening up the capacity to get here, but not have them go through that godawful [migration] process,” Biden told an international press conference on January 10 in Mexico.
Overall, Biden’s policies have accepted roughly one migrant for every American birth during the two years. The demographic shock has spiked housing costs and reduced wages and workplace investment.
Biden’s deputies are also trying to protect the huge population of illegals workers, and to get them into the jobs that would otherwise go to the several million older, sicker, and slower Americans who have been pushed out of the workforce by CEOs’ use of young, healthy, cheap, and compliant migrants. His fellow Democrats and allies are pushing state legislatures to get illegals into skilled technical jobs such as electrician and plumbing jobs, and are fast-tracking foreign graduates into many of the white-collar jobs needed by many indebted and underemployed U.S. graduates.
Unsurprisingly, the Democrats’ on-stage costume change is being applauded by establishment journalists, such as Ron Brownstein at The Atlantic:
[Biden] touched on another theme that will likely become an even more central component of his economic and political strategy over the next two years: He repeatedly noted how many of the jobs created by his economic agenda are not expected to require a four-year college degree.
Brownstein ignored Biden’s record-breaking inflow of foreign white-collar and blue-collar workers as he wrote:
Politically, improving economic conditions for workers without advanced degrees is the centerpiece of Biden’s plan to reverse the generation-long Democratic erosion among white voters who don’t hold a college degree—and the party’s more recent slippage among non-college-educated voters of color, particularly Latino men.
Brownstein also dismissed Trump’s low-migration economic gains for blue-collar workers as merely “cultural and racial messages,” before quoting a Biden official’s race-focused strategy for the 2024 election:
What’s already clear now is how much Biden has bet, both economically and politically, on bolstering the economic circumstances of workers without advanced education by investing literally trillions of federal dollars in forging an economy that again builds more things in America. “I don’t know whether the angry white people in Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin are less angry if we get them 120,000 more manufacturing jobs,” a senior White House official told me, speaking anonymously in order to be candid. “But we are going to run that experiment.”
The federal government has long operated an economic policy of Extraction Migration. This colonialism-like policy extracts vast amounts of human resources from needy countries and uses the imported workers, renters, and consumers to grow Wall Street and the economy.
The migrant inflow has successfully forced down Americans’ wages and also boosted rents and housing prices. The inflow has also pushed many native-born Americans out of careers in a wide variety of business sectors and contributed to the rising death rate of poor Americans.

Rents Spike for Americans as Biden’s Migrants Fill Apartments
Half of American renters — or 25 million people — now spend more than 30 percent of their pre-tax income on housing amid President Joe Biden’s wage-cutting, rent-spiking welcome for mass migration.
“The national average rent-to-income (RTI) reached 30% for the first time in our 20+ years of tracking history, up 1.5% from year-ago,” said a housing report by the Wall Street firm of Moody’s Analytics.
“Rent … rose faster than incomes” in 75 metro areas, according to the report.
Back in 1999, rents consumed roughly 22.5 percent of the median income, the report said.
The median income is the mid-point in wages: Half of Americans earn more, and half earn less, than the median income.
“These trends on wages not keeping up with rents are exactly what anyone with a morsel of common sense knows will happen if immigration levels are too high,” said Andrew Good, at NumbersUSA.com. He added:
The American Dream for today’s Americans will only be pushed further out of reach unless we get serious about changing course. It is critically important that we reduce immigration unless we want to [change from] a middle class nation to a nation of renters.”
Since the 1970s, rents have risen in every state as Congress expanded the resident population of immigrants, especially after Congress doubled legal immigration in 1990. That immigrant population has grown from roughly 30 million in 1999 to almost 50 million in early 2023. The inflow raised housing costs just as inflation pumps up gasoline prices.
Rents rose by 8.7 percent in 2021 and 9 percent in 2022 as Biden’s huge inflow of roughly 3 million southern migrants pooled their low incomes to rent houses and apartments.
In contrast, rents rose by 3.6 percent per year during President Donald Trump’s low-migration term.
Coronavirus out-migration from major cities did reduce rent pressure in some major cities, the Moody’s Analytics report said. But “the South Atlantic and Southwest experienced the opposite due to strong in-migration,” the report noted.
For example, to keep pace with rising rents, wages would have to rise by more than 9.3 percent in Knoxville, Tennessee, 75 percent in Chattanooga, 8.9 percent in Charleston, South Carolina, and 6.6 percent in Greensboro and Winston-Salem, the report noted.
Rents in the South Atlantic states consumed almost 25 percent of median income, up from 21.8 percent in 2019.
Homes are cheaper in the low-migration midwest and southwest, where rents consumed 20 percent and 19 percent of median pre-tax income. But even in the south, many Americans are being pushed out of their homes. In Arizona, Scottsdale Realtors.com reported on January 14:
For the past few months, Morgan Rice has called Coconino National Forest home.
Rice and his girlfriend — along with their dog, Rio, and their cat, Kit — have been camping full-time in their 32-foot, 2006 Ford diesel van since August. When monthly rent for their one-bedroom apartment in Avondale increased from around $800 to over $1,300, the couple simply couldn’t keep up.
“They outpriced us,” Rice said.
Yet Democrats continue to push for more migration, even though the rising rents are forcing young Americans to delay marriage and move back to their parent’s homes.
“We have a [U.S.] population that is not reproducing on its own,” Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) ADMITTED in November, before calling for even more migration:
The only way we’re going to have a great future in America is if we welcome and embrace immigrants, the dreamers and all of them — because our ultimate goal is to help the Dreamers [illegals who were brought in by their parents] get a path to citizenship for all 11 million — or however many undocumented there are here [emphasis added].
New York rents take almost 70 percent of the median wage, yet Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is urging more migration into her high-rent, low-wage district. On January 25, she and almost 80 other Democrats signed a letter to President Joe Biden asking for more migration:
We believe that your administration can and must continue to expand legal pathways for migrants and refugees into the United States — without further dismantling the right to seek asylum at our border.
The demand for more migration is also pushed by GOP donors, especially donors with large real-estate holdings.
Moody’s report, however, did not break out the impact caused by President Joe Biden’s policy of easy migration, which has added roughly 4 million legal and illegal migrants during 2022.
The Moody’s report was covered by the New York Times, but it also suppressed mention of immigration as it sketched rising costs:
“We’ve been moving in this direction for decades,” said Martha Galvez, the executive director of the Housing Solutions Lab at New York University’s Furman Center. “Since the ’70s, rents have been rising faster than incomes. And among lower-income households, high rent burdens have been the norm for a long time.”
Since January 2021, Biden’s migration has added at least 4 million southern migrants to the United States population, not counting at least two million legal immigrants and visa workers. Assuming six people per apartment, that’s an extra demand for roughly 700,000 apartments in two years when only 800,000 new apartments were completed.
Academic research says immigration drives up rents — and also spikes housing prices in nearby locations as Americans flee from the civic impact of the new migrants.
“Using data that span from 2002–2012, we find, as have others, that immigration inflows are associated with rising rents and prices,” according to a March 2017 study of almost 300 “Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA), titled “Immigration and housing: A spatial econometric analysis.” The summary reported:
An increase in the number of immigrants equal to 1 percent of an MSA’s total population was linked with a 0.8 percent increase in rents and a 0.8 percent increase in home prices.
This same increase in immigrants was associated with a 1.6 percent rise in rents and a 9.6 percent rise in home prices in surrounding MSAs.
Investors and analysts recognize the link between migration and housing costs — even as they also try to minimize public understanding of the link. For example, in 2018, an article in a real-estate publication noted that “immigration will be necessary to fuel multifamily housing demand.”
Immigrants now comprise roughly 14 percent — or one in seven — of all residents in the United States. That inflow has helped to spike rents and housing costs in California and other coastal states, especially when politicians and builders jointly roll back suburban zoning rules.
Biden’s multi-mullion person inrush is expected to continue in 2023 — and will likely push rents even higher amid a likely record production of 300,000 new apartments.
New York rents demand the largest share of median income, or almost 70 percent of the median wage, the report said. San Francisco fell to eighth place as prices surged in high-migration cities, such as Miami, Los Angeles, and Boston.
The report noted:
At the state level, three states topped the 30% rent-burdened threshold similar to Q3: Massachusetts (32.9%), Florida (32.6%), and New York (31.2%).
Over the past three years, Nevada (+4.9%), Florida (+4.8%), Alabama (+4.2%), South Carolina (+4.2%), Arizona (+4.1%), and New Mexico (4.0%) all experienced the highest increase in the state’s average rent burdening, attributed to significantly higher [greater than] (>~20%) rent growth than respective median household income growth during the three-year period.
But affordability declined the most in southern states, the report said. “Median household incomes were … not keeping pace with the rent growth, creating the biggest disparity in growth rates among all regions,” the report said:
