Billionaire Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos, who has long denied editorial involvement, sat in on newsroom meetings on Thursday as employees discussed articles about the Amazon founder and his business interests.

During the meetings, editors discussed stories on the discontinuation of AmazonSmile and the impending sale of the Washington Commanders, which Bezos has shown interest in purchasing, the New York Times reported.

Post editors have long insisted that Bezos, who purchased the newspaper in 2013, does not interfere in coverage. Former editor Marty Baron said in 2019 that "he hasn't interfered with a single story" and "hasn't criticized a story."

Bezos's attendance in the morning news meetings comes as the paper has become unprofitable for the first time in years. The Post lost half a million subscribers since President Joe Biden took office, and publisher Fred Ryan announced last month that the paper will begin laying off staff.

A Post employee confronted Bezos about the layoffs, the Times reported:

During the meeting on Thursday, Mr. Bezos’ retinue stood outside the room, earpieces clearly visible. As he left, a Post employee wearing a red shirt emblazoned with the insignia of The Post’s guild stopped him and asked why the company was laying people off without offering buyouts first, according to the three people with knowledge of the meeting. Mr. Bezos responded that he was at The Post to listen, not answer questions, and underscored his commitment to The Post’s journalism.

Silicon Valley Slump: Google Announces Mass Layoff of 12,000 Workers

Woke tech giant Google has announced a major layoff, stating that the company plans to cut approximately 6 percent of its workforce, or about 12,000 employees.

AP News reports that Google has announced that it will be laying off 12,000 employees, or about 6 percent of its workforce. Tech giants including Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook (now known as Meta), and Salsesforce have also recently announced tens of thousands of layoffs as they tighten their belts amid a worsening outlook for the industry. The latest job losses mark the largest rounds of layoffs that Google has ever experienced.

Breitbart News recently covered Microsoft’s announcement of the layoff of 10,000 employees through March 31 as the company prepares for slower revenue growth. The software giant further stated that it will be taking a $1.2 billion charge tied to a lease consolidation and other activities.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google and the head of its parent company Alphabet, informed staff on Friday of the layoffs in an email that was also posted on the business’ news blog. Pichai claimed that the layoffs are a result of a “rigorous review” of Google’s business practices.

According to Pichai, the positions being eliminated “cut across Alphabet, product areas, functions, levels, and regions.” He expressed his “deep regret” for the layoffs.

Regulatory filings show how Google’s workforce increased during the coronavirus pandemic, from 119,000 at the end of 2019 to nearly 187,000 by the end of last year. Google, which was established almost 25 years ago, was “bound to go through difficult economic cycles,” according to Pichai.

“These are important moments to sharpen our focus, re-engineer our cost base, and direct our talent and capital to our highest priorities,” he wrote. He highlighted the business’s investments in artificial intelligence as a potential growth area.

Wedbush Securities analysts Dan Ives, John Katsingris, and Taz Koujalgi, recently stated that “the clock has struck midnight on hyper-growth and digital advertising headwinds are on the horizon,” forcing the previously booming tech sector to halt hiring and announce layoffs.

Microsoft recently announced the elimination of 10,000 jobs, or nearly 5 percent of its workforce. Amazon announced this month that it is eliminating 18,000 jobs, though that represents a small portion of its 1.5 million-person workforce, while business software provider Salesforce is eliminating 8,000 jobs, or 10 percent of the entire workforce. Facebook announced last fall that it would cut 11,000 jobs, or 13 percent of its workforce.

The Wedbush analysts stated: “The stage is being set: Tech names across the board are cutting costs to preserve margins and get leaner.”

Despite indications that the economy is slowing down, employment in the United States has remained strong, and another 223,000 jobs were created in December. However, the tech industry expanded incredibly quickly over the past few years due to increased demand brought on by employees starting to work remotely.

Both Pichai and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella highlighted the value of leveraging their advancements in artificial intelligence technology in their layoff announcements, reflecting a resurgence of competition between the tech titans sparked by Microsoft’s expanding partnership with the San Francisco startup OpenAI.

Biden’s America: Hungry Americans Smuggle in Eggs from Mexico

The Biden administration think it's okay to smuggle in illegal aliens, but not eggs.

If you thought 2020 was bad, you ain’t seen anything yet.

Two years in, it’s still routine for store shelves to be empty and the latest round of ‘Putin’s price hikes’ on milk, pop and eggs have just begun kicking in. It’s gotten so bad that people are renting egg-laying chickens and setting them up in suburban coops. And eggs are being smuggled in from Mexico.

Earlier this week, Jennifer De La O, the director of Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) San Diego Field Operations, tweeted that her office has “recently noticed an increase in the number of eggs intercepted at our ports of entry”.

For some local residents, attempts to purchase eggs in Mexico come as no surprise. A local affiliate of the BBC’s US partner CBS reported that a carton of a dozen eggs costs nearly $8 at some mini-markets in border communities, compared to less than $3 across the border in Tijuana, Mexico.

Anthony Gago, the owner of a market in San Ysidro – which sits on the border with Mexico – noted that some unhappy customers turn away and cross the border into Mexico when faced with high prices.

“Our 100 count eggs are $40. If you buy them separately they cost you $9.99 and it’s obviously more expensive if you buy five,” Mr Gago said.

Border Report, a website which focuses on the US-Mexico border, reported a similar trend along the border between El Paso, Texas – where eggs often cost about $6 – and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, where a carton of eggs costs approximately $3.40.

The Biden administration’s position is that it’s okay to smuggle in illegal aliens across the border, but not bring eggs across the border.

According to Mr Payne, the high fines of up to $10,000 are reserved for illegal commercial shipments. Individuals face civil fines of approximately $300, and those who declare their eggs may avoid fines altogether – although the eggs will be seized and ultimately destroyed.

Who would have imagined 5 years ago that hungry Americans would be smuggling in eggs from Mexico.

That is your country, this is your country under the Left.
