Tom Homan: Impeach Mayorkas for the Death of Many Migrants

Congress should impeach border chief Alejandro Mayorkas because of the many migrants killed by his pro-migration policies, former official Tom Homan told an informal hearing held by GOP representatives.

“The humanitarian crisis this administration created is killing people in record numbers,” Homan, a former acting chief of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, told Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) at the impeachment event on February 8.

Homan continued:

It’s not just migrants but U.S. citizens. That needs to be the overshadow of why this administration needs to be held accountable and [why] the secretary needs to be impeached … Massive amounts of people are dying — not just migrants — but U.S. citizens too.

The focus on Mayorkas’ death toll may complement other critics’ legalistic arguments for Mayorkas’ removal.

The massive death toll is an open secret among D.C.’s politicians, progressives, reporters, and pro-migration lobbies.

“We have seen too much tragedy in the oceans of the Atlantic,” Mayorkas told a press conference in Miami, Florida on January 30. “We’ve seen loved ones lose children and family members,” said Mayorkas, who rerouted migrants’ jungle path through Panama in 2022 after getting reports of many dead migrants.

“People go through … jungles and a long journey to the border,” Biden told the international media on January 10, adding:

Many are victimized, not only in terms of what they have to pay, but victimized physically in other ways. We’re trying to make it easier for people to get here, opening up the capacity to get here, but not have them go through that godawful process.

“The misery and death that people experience, only to be turned away at the border, is appalling,” said a tweet by Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, the policy director at the American Immigration Council.

“I have spoken with several migrants on the border between Mexico and the United States who have told me they have seen corpses dumped in the Darién jungle,” said Adam Isacson, the director for Defense Oversight at the Washington Office on Latin America.

Some GOP politicians recognize the Democrats’ vulnerability on the issue. The vulnerability is expanded because many Democrats insist they are a morally superior, non-racist, pro-humanitarian party.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), for example, slammed Democrats at a February 1 hearing of the House judiciary committee:

That chart reflects the uptick in migrant deaths. That’s 2020 to 2022. Almost 1,000 migrant deaths at the southwest border of the United States. We had 53 migrants die in a tractor-trailer in San Antonio — cooked in the Texas heat. Fifty-seven were killed when a tractor-trailer crammed migrants rolled over in a highway crash in Mexico’s southern state of Chiapas. Ask me this, is it Christian for migrants to die like that?

“Nearly 1,400 dead bodies have been found along the southern border since Biden took office — each year has been a record high,” Rep. Lauren Boebert said at a February 8 hearing.

Breitbart News has closely covered the hunger-games-style obstacle course which poor migrants — and their children — take in their gambles to win entry through Mayorkas’ erratically open border.

“There were two images of his treacherous journey north that he couldn’t get out of his head,” Albinson Linares from Telemundo.com said about a Venezuelan migrant named Johan Torres:

The first was how a [migrant] person who resisted a robbery in Mexico was killed with a machete; the other happened in the [Panama] jungle, when he saw a man leave behind his young daughter, waist-deep in mud.

“He left her there, lying in the mud and crying. And I couldn’t do anything because I was dying of exhaustion. But I can’t forget that,” he said with tears in his eyes.

“The stories we have heard from those who have crossed the Darien Gap attest to the horrors of this journey,” Giuseppe Loprete, the Panama manager for the International Organization for Migration (IOM), said in a January 17 statement. “Many have lost their lives or gone missing, while others come out of it with significant health issues, both physical and mental,” he added.

“More than 1,238 lives have been lost during migration in the [north, central and south] Americas in 2021, among them at least 51 children,” said the group’s July 1 report. “At least 728 of these deaths occurred on the United States-Mexico border crossing, making this the deadliest land crossing in the world,” said the IOM statement. The statement added:

“The number of deaths on the United States-Mexico border last year is significantly higher than in any year prior, even before COVID-19,” said Edwin Viales, author of the new IOM report on migrants in the Americas in 2021. “Yet, this number remains an undercount.”

There is a growing amount of video about the ordeal and the deaths — but the deadly drama has been hidden by the soft-focus, pro-Biden, corporate evening news.

But in September 2022, CNN’s Ray Sanchez slipped this horror story into a cheerful report from Marthas Vinyard:

The couple [Pedro Luis Torrealba, and his wife said they] started the roadless crossing on the border between Colombia and Panama — the deadly Darién Gap — with more than 60 other migrants, Torrealba said outside the parish house on Thursday night. Only 22 completed the trek across the 60 miles of jungle and steep mountains, he said. Some fell from cliffs, others were swept away by flood waters.

At the Biggs event, several former homeland security officials provided much evidence of migrants killed under Mayorkas’ tenure.

“In the past 24 months, somewhere between 1,500 and 1,700 dead migrants have been counted by CBP at the border,” said Mark Morgan, acting commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency. “That doesn’t include the number of migrants that died in Mexico on the journey or the dangerous and inhospitable Darien Gap,” he added.

Democrats, however, are trying to shift the media focus to the far fewer deaths of injured or ailing migrants in government custody. For example, Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes (D-NY) used the February 8 hearing to claim:

In 2020. the [Government Accountability Office] GAO said reported that border patrols currently do not have reliable information on deaths, serious injuries, and suicide attempts [in government  custody], and has not consistently reported deaths of individuals to Congress. And in 2022, the GAO again found that Border Patrol has not collected, recorded, or reported to Congress complete data on migrant deaths or disclosed associated data limitations.

Fact Check: Yes, American Jobs Have Left the U.S. — with Biden’s Support

CLAIM: During President Joe Biden’s State of the Union (SOTU) address on Tuesday evening, he claimed that for decades, American jobs have been “exported” from the United States economy.

VERDICT: True. American jobs, for decades, have been eliminated from the U.S. economy with Biden’s backing.

“For too many decades, we imported products and exported jobs,” Biden said during his third SOTU address to the nation.

The claim is true. From 2001 to 2018, U.S. free trade with China eliminated 3.7 million American jobs from the economy — 2.8 million of which were lost in American manufacturing. During that same period, at least 50,000 American manufacturing plants closed down.

The massive gutting of working and middle class American jobs came as Biden, then in the Senate, supported China’s entering the World Trade Organization (WTO). In September 2020, Biden defended his supporting China’s entering the WTO and normalizing trade relations with China.

Likewise, Biden supported the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), claiming in 1997 that the free trade deal would help American workers in the auto industry. Those workers, years later, had their jobs outsourced to Mexico.

As a result of NAFTA, nearly a million American jobs have been certified by the federal government as being lost directly due to the free trade deal, according to data gathered by Public Citizen. These are only the jobs that the Trade Adjustment Assistance program recognizes as being lost to free trade and does not indicate the actual number of jobs lost.

Free trade with Mexico, alone, has eliminated at least 700,000 American jobs, and states in the Rust Belt have been hit the hardest.

Fact Check: Biden Claims He Created as Many Jobs in 2 Years as Any President Created in 4

CLAIM: President Joe Biden claimed during his State of the Union Address that he has created nearly double the number of jobs that the next-closest president created in four years on average.

VERDICT: MOSTLY FALSE. While many jobs have been created coming out of the pandemic-era lockdowns after former President Donald Trump encouraged the reopening of the economy, “Biden is comparing his monthly jobs record for the first two years of his term to the full four-year or eight-year terms of the six previous presidents,” according to the Washington Post.

Biden is comparing apples and oranges. He has miscalculated by including future times for which no job data is available.

Importantly, most of the jobs “created” during the Biden presidency were jobs that were reopened as the pandemic’s shackles on the economy were taken off. The economy only recently reached the level of employment hit during the Trump administration prior to the pandemic.

In addition, Biden’s first two years in office have benefited from Trump-era policies, such as trying to open up the economy so businesses can hire workers and various impacts from stimulus packages.

Biden’s January job numbers were strong, however. The U.S. economy added 517,000 jobs. “The median forecast by analysts surveyed by Econoday was for 185,000 jobs, which would have been a steep decline from the 223,000 jobs initially reported for December,” Breitbart News’s John Carney reported.

Biden’s speech comes as Monday polling shows fewer than four in ten — under 40 percent — Americans say the state of the union is strong, while fifty-eight percent say it is not strong.

To protect our security I suspended the entry of foreign refugees from terror afflicted nations.  Biden has pledged a staggering 700 percent increase in refugees from the most violent terrorist hotspots anywhere on earth.  If you don’t mind I’ll end that.  And that was the deal, the manifesto, that he agreed to with Bernie Sanders and AOC+3 [Rep. Biden's Deathly Presidency

By Jeffrey Folks

For four years under President Trump, America enjoyed peace, security, and unparalleled prosperity.  Trump's presidency was a historic era of good times in which we began to regain faith in the American Dream.  Now we have the nightmare, and the death and destruction that go with it.

Yes, the Trump Era was prosperous, with historically low unemployment rates, low inflation, energy independence, and rising wages.  But aside from that, the most important thing about Trump's presidency was the fact that Americans were secure, as they had not been under Obama and certainly are not under Biden.  Under Trump, America was in so many senses vibrant and "alive" with pride in our country and hope for its future.

Now we have regular mass shootings in which citizens disarmed by the State have no way to defend themselves.  Overseas, we have a war in Ukraine, the threat of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, and Iran developing nuclear weapons with the encouragement of the Biden administration.  The common thread is death and the fear that goes with it.  And this does not even include Biden's aggressive defense of abortion on demand.

Under President Trump, I lived without fear.  I knew that Trump supported my right to defend my home and that he supported the police who defended me as well.  Just having the president and his administration on my side made me breathe easier.  America was moving in the right direction, as was confirmed by every opinion poll during Trump's time in office before COVID was unleashed.

Long-term death rates are more a matter of demographics than policy, and they have been rising ever since Obama took office in 2008.  But murder rates, deaths in war and civil unrest, drug overdose deaths, and accidental deaths are attributable to policy, and they have been rising under Biden, even during his short time in office.  Under Biden, the U.S. murder rate, which had been declining under President Trump, is the highest in 25 years.  According to former N.Y. police commissioner Howard Safir, the spike in violence is partly attributable to lack of support for police and soft-on-crime prosecutors.  And it is Biden, with his anti-police rhetoric and refusal to prosecute (as in the case of those picketing Justice Kavanaugh's home), who is responsible for this climate of anarchy.

Now I plan my trips carefully, avoid eye contact with strangers, and carry only a driver's license and credit card.  I drive inconspicuously as well, given the explosion of road rage incidents.

The most galling thing is that Biden never says a word about the victims of crime unless he can twist the incident into an anti-gun lecture, and he takes no action to protect anyone, especially law-abiding citizens in middle-class neighborhoods like my own.  In this and so many other ways, he seems on the side of those who wish to destroy us.  It's no accident that murder rates are spiraling at home and war is breaking out overseas.  Both are a response to Biden's weakness, and death is the consequence.

I fear there will be more death ahead.  I expect an invasion in Taiwan, Moldova, or Finland, and new outbreaks of violence in the Middle East involving either Iran or its surrogates.  The incomprehensible Iran deal, which Biden is pushing, would "make Biden 'the biggest funder of terrorism in the world,'" according to Rep. Jim Banks.  "Terrorism" is not just a derogatory word; it is the act of murdering innocent human beings, including women and children.  Hasn't that fact entered into Biden's Iran deal calculations?

Biden's weakness has emboldened our enemies, and their actions pose a threat to our security.  This is the way major wars begin.  They can be prevented only by the projection of force of the kind we saw under President Trump, and Biden projects about as much force as a lady's fan.  His weakness will get us into another war, and our young men and women will die in that war.  There is death hanging over us, and Biden seems oblivious, fumbling with his note cards to find some kind of answer.

There is a new national mood in America unlike anything I've seen since the 1960s: a sense of foreboding and caution based on the very real threat of violence and collapse.  There are more threats to our country, including the wealth destruction of inflation, to which Biden simply rolls his eyes, chuckles, and whispers some idiotic riposte.  There are more criminal gangs, and Biden just welcomes more in.  There is more road rage, more random shooting, more felons out on no bond/low bond.  And there is a callous and brutal disregard for the lives of the unborn.

In response to the mounting violence, Biden seems remote, fuddling with his microphone like a man slipping into dementia, and those around him seem inept, if not callous, including his new press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, who is said to have "frequently stumbled" during her first weeks.  A president who is weak and advisers who are incompetent and anti-American to boot — that is a recipe for disaster, and disaster will end, as it always does, in poverty, destruction, and death.

There are bullies in the world who watched as Biden stumbled out of Afghanistan, and bullies don't have much respect for doddering fools who just want to survive a four-year term and leave a mess for someone else to clean up.

As a citizen, it is difficult to watch my country besieged by violence.  Biden's presidency has been deadly in every respect: turning off economic growth and imposing environmental restrictions, proposing inflation-adjusted cuts in national defense while paying off student loans, and putting citizens at risk with his anti-police rhetoric.

There is little chance of a second Biden term, but just another two and a half years is painful to imagine.  How many thousands will lose their lives because of one incompetent and wrong-headed leader?  How far will America go into danger and destruction?  And how much more difficult will it be for our next president, Trump or a Trump lookalike, to repair the damage and Make America Safe Again?

The same continent-wide superstate was pushed in 2001 by President G.W. Bush and Mexico’s then-president, Vicente Fox. Their unpopular “Any Willing Worker” plan would have allowed U.S. employers to easily import low-wage employees from central and south America. It was derailed following the 9/11 attack.

The policy would spike Wall Street and Fortune 500 profits by giving them floods of cheap foreign workers plus many new foreign consumers. NEIL MUNRO
