WHY CRIME IN AMERICA IS BLACK - America has a problem: a subculture of black crime. Every race has criminals, but when 6% of the population, black males, are responsible for over 50% of the murders and violent crimes, one must ask why.

 IN AMERICA CRIME IS BLACK.

Overall crime has soared across the district by 22 percent since 2022, D.C. crime statistics from Wednesday show. Sex abuse is up 110 percent. Homicides are up 19 percent. Property crime is up 27 percent, and motor vehicle theft has soared 108 percent.

America has a problem: a subculture of black crime. Every race has criminals, but when 6% of the population, black males, are responsible for over 50% of the murders and violent crimes, one must ask why.

The Cultural And Political Forces Driving Violence In The Black Community

America has a problem: a subculture of black crime. Every race has criminals, but when 6% of the population, black males, are responsible for over 50% of the murders and violent crimes, one must ask why. The answer lies in the irony that blacks inherited the worst of old-time, white Scots-Irish culture, over which leftists placed racial grievance politics. The former created bad behavior; the latter leaves blacks unprepared or unwilling to address that behavior.

Thomas Sowell’s fascinating Conquests and Cultures discusses how different societies evolved. The primary takeaway is that, in the last 500 years, the Europeans have far surpassed the rest of the planet while Africans have lagged farthest behind. This isn’t race-based. It’s because of water and geography.

Europe has numerous easily navigable rivers and deep-water harbors. Additionally, almost every spot on the continent is within 500 miles of the sea, allowing most Europeans to trade within Europe and around the world. That ability to easily trade foods, manufactured goods, people and, most of all, ideas with one another allowed Europeans to incorporate everything from gunpowder from China to numbers from India, crafting a civilization that far surpassed anything found anywhere else. The inventiveness, efficiencies, freedoms, and prosperity Europeans developed allowed them to dominate the world for centuries.

Image: 19th-century drawing showing an Appalachian couple (i.e., Scots-Irish), entitled “The trial’s next Wednesday,” by E.W. Kemble (1861-1933). Public domain

Africa, however, has few deep-water harbors and few functionally navigable rivers, and its rugged topography make the exchange of goods, people, and ideas over large areas difficult at best and almost impossible at worst. In pre-modern times, those barriers saw most civilizations in sub-Saharan Africa remain relatively insular and isolated.

Africans couldn’t benefit from the exchange of ideas and goods, which would have allowed them to coalesce into powerful, advanced societies. This reality has nothing to do with race. Sowell points out that similar geographic hurdles impeded the development of robust trading mechanisms in a number of places in Europe, including the Scottish Highlands, Russia, and much of the Balkans, with similarly retarded cultural development.

Sowell is clear: It’s geography that shapes a society’s culture, not race. The same is true in America. As Sowell shows in Black Rednecks and White Liberals, southern blacks adopted the self-destructive culture of the early Scots-Irish settlers. To this non-African heritage, the left has added a sense of chronic victimhood. The result? Violence and a lack of respect for people and property that so many predominantly black communities display.

What Sowell calls “Cultural capital” must be developed. It involves an ability and willingness to work to achieve desired goals. He contrasts the success of the Germans and Japanese after WWII with that of many of the newly independent states in Africa in the second half of the 20th century. All received massive amounts of money from outside, but the outcomes were far different.

While Germany and Japan became economic juggernauts, most newly independent African nations became economic basket cases where poverty and corruption reigned while freedom and security were almost nonexistent. He points out that while it was engineers and business leaders who took the lead in Germany and Japan after the war, in Africa it was usually members of the western educated intelligentsia, steeped in “social sciences” and largely lacking in knowledge or experience in demonstrably productive endeavors who took the lead.

In the United States, the same leftist intelligentsia (read Democrats…) have led much of black America into similarly dire straits. Democrats have convinced a significant portion of black Americans that they are victims of systemic racism that cannot be overcome.

The catalyst was, of course, slavery. While slavery did exist, as did its Jim Crow progeny, the problems that bedevil many black Americans today have little to do with these racist systems. Slavery has been gone for 170 years, and Jim Crow for more than half a century. Since then, the country has seen government-mandated school integration, decades of affirmative action and government welfare programs and, perhaps most harmfully, programs that made it economically viable for women to have children without the father present, resulting in 70% of black babies being born out of wedlock and raised by single mothers.

Still, leftists claim, America is systemically racist—even though between 1947 and 2021, the median individual income for blacks rose 458% while, for whites, it rose only 297%. But we’re told racism is America’s biggest threat—even though “hate crimes” are so few that there seems to be a cottage industry associated with fakes. However, Blacks, we’re told, can’t succeed in America—even though the $35,000 median household income of the average black American family is higher than the median household income of every other country on the planet except for Luxemburg, Norway, Canada, and Switzerland.

The Democrats’ ability to brainwash a significant number of black Americans into believing they’re victims of white racism leads to the carnage that plays itself out across the country, as viral videos too frequently prove. This violence seems to be different from 20 years ago, both in terms of savagery and frequency.

In 1998 Jessie Jackson said, “There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps... then turn around and see somebody white and feel relieved.” Today, the danger Jackson alludes to exists not only when people are walking down the street, but while serving customers in restaurants, working in a drugstore or at the Apple Store, or standing on a subway platform.

People ask how the Nazis could kill so many Jews with so little remorse. It was easy. A media campaign of dehumanization. A firehose pumping out propaganda that Jews were not human unsurprisingly resulted in a significant percentage of the German people believing that Jews were indeed subhuman and, therefore, could be abused and killed to the point of extinction.

The campaign the Nazis used is not so different from what the Democrats are using today to convince black Americans that they are indeed victims of white racism. In just one week during the 2020 election campaign, CNN and MSNBC used the term “racist” 4,100 times. The Democrat’s Victim Industrial Complex has been so successful that a recent Rasmussen poll found that 47% of blacks disagreed with or weren’t sure about the statement: “It’s OK to be white.”

But it’s not only the whites we see being punched, kicked, stomped, and shot because of the nihilism inculcated into blacks brainwashed to think the world is their enemy; it’s Asians, Hispanics and, most of all, other blacks. In many black neighborhoods in American cities, crime rates rival those of the deadliest cities in the world.

If there’s any question about this, visit two websites—Bestneighborhood and Neighborhoodscout—and compare the data. The first shows the geographic population data for cities by race, while the second shows precinct-level crime rates. What you’ll discover is that, in almost every big city, there’s a direct correlation between the levels of crime and the percentage of the black population within the area.

The violent dystopian reality that tragically characterizes too much of black America results directly from the Democrat’s Victim Industrial Complex, which discourages black Americans from breaking free from the worst of the Scots-Irish culture they absorbed in the south. Leftists have told too many black people they have no opportunity for success, and that negative outcomes in their lives are due to the racist system they were born into. They’ve taught them that mathcoffeephysical fitness, and virtually everything else, are racist. Simultaneously they’ve allowed many to terrorize their communities with impunity because of “equity.”

The Democrat’s Victim Industrial Complex has sadly destroyed Sowell’s “Cultural capital” for much of black America. And that’s a problem for everyone because, as Abraham Lincoln said in 1858, “A house divided against itself, cannot stand.”

D.C. Official Claims District Crime ‘Is Not’ a Crisis After Rand Paul Staffer Stabbing

Days after Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-KY) staffer was brutally stabbed over the weekend, Washington, DC, Council Chairman Phil Mendelson testified before Congress on Wednesday that the soaring crime rate in the district is not a crisis.

Overall crime has soared across the district by 22 percent since 2022, D.C. crime statistics from Wednesday show. Sex abuse is up 110 percent. Homicides are up 19 percent. Property crime is up 27 percent, and motor vehicle theft has soared 108 percent.

Mendelson dismissed soaring crime statistics by claiming before House Oversight Committee, “There is not a crime crisis in Washington, DC.”

Mendelson previously spearheaded a district law that would have reduced punishment for criminals. That bill was vetoed by the mayor but the council overrode the mayor’s veto with a dominant number of votes. Congressional Republicans ultimately prevented it from becoming law.

Mendelson’s claims were in response to House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer’s (R-KY) statement that crime is soaring in the nation’s capital.

“Carjackings in have increased 105% compared to this time last year — 56% of these carjackings are committed by juveniles. Totally property crime is up 28%. Homicides are up 37% since 2019,” Comer explained.

The local crimes have even caught the nation’s attention. Just on Monday, news reports surfaced that just blocks away from the Capitol Building, Sen Rand Paul’s (R-KY) staffer was randomly attacked on the 1300 block of H Street Northeast.

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old, black district resident Glynn Neal, told law enforcement he launched the attack because “voices” in his head told him to do it, according to NBC4 Washington.

The attack occurred on the same street where Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) was assaulted in her apartment building on February 9. Months prior on H street, a Washington Football Team player was shot in an attempted carjacking.

The attacks did not appear to faze Mendelson, who took no responsibility for the attack on Paul’s staffer. “This is something that was horrible and yet it’s something of which we have no part,” he of the council.

The crime spike in Washington, DC, comes after Biden-appointed United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, Matthew Graves, has refused to prosecute 67 percent of those arrested who would have been put on trial in the D.C. Superior Court.

Graves admitted to the Washington Post on Wednesday the lack of prosecutions has mostly applied to those arrests for gun possession, drug possession, and burglaries.

Suspect Accused of Stabbing Rand Paul Staffer Was Freed from Prison Early Thanks to GOP-Backed ‘First Step Act’

The suspect accused of brutally stabbing a staffer for Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) in Washington, DC, had been released early from prison thanks to the “First Step Act,” which was approved by the then-Republican-controlled Congress in 2018 and signed into law by former President Donald Trump.

As Breitbart News reported, 42-year-old Glynn Neal is accused of stabbing, at random, Phillip Todd, who was leaving Sol Mexican Grill in D.C. Todd works for Paul as a chief economic adviser for the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Todd is currently recovering from the stabbing attack, which left him with deep wounds to his head and abdomen, spurring a skull fracture and collapsed lung, according to his family.

The day before the stabbing attack, Neal was released early from federal prison in Maryland — earning “good time credit” under the First Step Act, which was championed in 2018 by the majority of House and Senate Republicans, including Paul, and signed into law by Trump.

“I am absolutely thrilled with tonight’s passage of the First Step Act,” Paul said in a statement after the GOP-controlled Senate passed the legislation in December 2018:

True to its name, this prison and sentencing reform bill is a much-needed first step toward shifting our focus to rehabilitation and reentry of offenders, rather than taking every person who ever made a mistake with drugs, locking them up, and throwing away the key. [Emphasis added]

In April 2019, then-Trump White House official Brooke Rollins told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview that the First Step Act will “go down as one of [Donald Trump’s] greatest accomplishments.”

Rollins, like many Republicans and Democrats at the time, claimed the law would “improve public safety” and called it “one of the greatest policy wins of our generation.”

As of July 2022, more than 7,500 convicts have been released early from federal prison thanks to the First Step Act — costing taxpayers about $75 million each year. Among those have been violent criminals, including those convicted of sex crimes, armed robberies, murder, assault, and weapons offenses.

Neil is not the only First Step Act beneficiary to go on to allegedly commit additional crimes after his release from federal prison.

Most notoriously, as Breitbart News chronicled in 2019, 41-year-old Joel Francisco, a notorious leader of the “Almighty Latin Kings” gang, was freed by the First Step Act and arrested months later for allegedly murdering 46-year-old Troy Pine.

Francisco was originally convicted in 2005 for dealing crack cocaine and powder cocaine. Days after his release by the First Step Act in February 2019, drug records reveal he immediately returned to using cocaine.

CRIME IN AMERICA IS BLACK

CITY JOURNAL

BLACK ON BLACK VIOLENCE Data,

of crime and policing than this weekend’s demonstrations suggest.

Heather Mac Donald

The FBI released its official crime tally for 2016 today, and the data flies in the face of the rhetoric that professional athletes rehearsed in revived Black Lives Matter protests over the weekend.  Nearly 900 additional blacks were killed in 2016 compared with 2015, bringing the black homicide-victim total to 7,881. Those 7,881 “black bodies,” in the parlance of Ta-Nehisi Coates, are 1,305 more than the number of white victims (which in this case includes most Hispanics) for the same period, though blacks are only 13 percent of the nation’s population. The increase in black homicide deaths last year comes on top of a previous 900-victim increase between 2014 and 2015.

Who is killing these black victims? Not whites, and not the police, but other blacks. In 2016, the police fatally shot 233 blacks, the vast majority armed and dangerous, according to the Washington Post. The Post categorized only 16 black male victims of police shootings as “unarmed.” That classification masks assaults against officers and violent resistance to arrest. Contrary to the Black Lives Matter narrative, the police have much more to fear from black males than black males have to fear from the police. In 2015, a police officer was 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male was to be killed by a police officer. Black males have made up 42 percent of all cop-killers over the last decade, though they are only 6 percent of the population. That 18.5 ratio undoubtedly worsened in 2016, in light of the 53 percent increase in gun murders of officers—committed vastly and disproportionately by black males. Among all homicide suspects whose race was known, white killers of blacks numbered only 243.

Violent crime has now risen by a significant amount for two consecutive years. The total number of violent crimes rose 4.1 percent in 2016, and estimated homicides rose 8.6 percent. In 2015, violent crime rose by nearly 4 percent and estimated homicides by nearly 11 percent. The last time violence rose two years in a row was 2005–06.  The reason for the current increase is what I have called the Ferguson Effect. Cops are backing off of proactive policing in high-crime minority neighborhoods, and criminals are becoming emboldened. Having been told incessantly by politicians, the media, and Black Lives Matter activists that they are bigoted for getting out of their cars and questioning someone loitering on a known drug corner at 2 AM, many officers are instead just driving by. Such stops are discretionary; cops don’t have to make them. And when political elites demonize the police for just such proactive policing, we shouldn’t be surprised when cops get the message and do less of it. Seventy-two percent of the nation’s officers say that they and their colleagues are now less willing to stop and question suspicious persons, according to a Pew Research poll released in January 2016. The reason is the persistent anti-cop climate.

Four studies came out in 2016 alone rebutting the charge that police shootings are racially biased. If there is a bias in police shootings, it works in favor of blacks and against whites. That truth has not stopped the ongoing demonization of the police—including, now, by many of the country’s ignorant professional athletes. The toll will be felt, as always, in the inner city, by the thousands of law-abiding people there who desperately want more police protection.

‘Party of 3,000 Deaths’ Accuses Republicans of Being Okay With Murder

2% of counties populated by Democrats were responsible for 56% of the country’s murders

A little bit of background.

3,595 black people were murdered in 2019. But in 2020, 5,839 black people were murdered.

That’s an additional 2,244 black people killed.

3,060 white and Latino people were killed in 2019, which rose to 4,167 in 2020.

BLM and pro-crime policies that unleashed a massive crime wave made a difference of 3,000 deaths plus.

America’s murder capitals are Dem territories. Without them, America would be safer than safe.

A groundbreaking study by John R. Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center, revealed that “1% of counties have 21% of the population and 42% of the murders” and “2% of counties contain 31% of the population and 56% of the murders.”

The CPRC study showed that while 2% of counties populated by Democrats were responsible for 56% of the country’s murders, 52% of counties had no murders and 68% of counties had at most one murder.

“If the 1% of the counties with the worst number of murders somehow were to become a separate country, the murder rate in the rest of the US would have been only 4.31 in 2020. Removing the worst 2% or 5% would have reduced the US rate to just 3.71 or 2.99 per 100,000, respectively.” We could have the murder rate of New Zealand.

Cue the media howlers screeching that Republicans just want people to die because they won’t eliminate the Bill of Rights. Their latest pretext for the howling is a transgender woman shooting up a Christian school.

S.E. Cupp / New York Daily News: Gun massacres & the collapse of American values: Nashville elementary school shooting is just another that we accept

Dems and their media accept an added 3,000 deaths, not to mention most of the murders going on in their areas, as part of the price we pay for social justice, diversity and all that good stuff.

When you’re okay with 3,000 murders, pushing phony outrage because you claim that the occasional mass spree killer, a group that accounts for a fraction of a percent of annual homicides, can be prevented by eliminating an entire class of hardware, when you refuse to prevent thousands of murders by locking up criminals is obscene.

You want to see the party of death? Go visit a major city.

Every year in America, some 500 whites are murdered by black assailants, more than twice as many as blacks killed by whites.  The media need to report all of these cases fairly and without bias so as to counter the false reporting and misplaced emphasis in the national press.  All victims, of whatever race, deserve justice because all human life is precious.  The reporting of violence should not be based on race — it should be proportionate to the crime, without regard to the race of the perpetrator or the victim.  Jeffrey Folks

Up-and-coming actor Jonathan Majors, star of Creed III and Ant-Man: Quantumania, has been arrested in New York for allegedly assaulting a woman.

The New York Police Department said that they responded to a 911 call on Saturday pertaining to a domestic violence dispute that involved the 33-year-old Majors and a 30-year-old woman. The woman reportedly sustained minor injuries to the neck and was taken to the hospital.

“The victim informed police she was assaulted. Officers placed the 33-year-old male into custody without incident,” police said.

A representative for Majors told The Hollywood Reporter the actor had done nothing wrong and that the evidence will clear him.

“He has done nothing wrong. We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up,” said the representative.

Majors was arrested on charges of strangulation, assault, and harassment. He is no longer in police custody.

As Breitbart News reportedRick & Morty co-creator Justin Roiland recently faced a near-career blacklisting for domestic violence charges that the Orange Country district attorney eventually dropped.

“I’m disappointed that so many people were so quick to judge based solely on the word of an embittered ex trying to bypass due process and have me ‘canceled,’” Roiland wrote in a statement. “That it may have succeeded, even partially, is shameful.”

VIDEO: Suspected Serial Attacker in Custody After Laundromat Beating

The Black Lives Matter movement has only focused on how law enforcement treats blacks. The movement has taken no responsibility for the victims of black criminals, and this is despite the fact that the vast majority of victims at the hands of black criminals are black. Yet the BLM movement never uses the billions of dollars donated by corporations to care for the victims of black criminals. Not a word, not an apology, not a regret, not a dollar.

Victims of black crime matter, too

Two black teenagers brutally attacked an Asian mother of three, causing severe physical damage. Once the news finally picked up on her story, generous Americans donated more than $300,000 to a fund for her medical care. However, most victims of black crime are blacks, and few benefit from a GoFundMe. Worse, none benefit from the tens of millions of dollars that Black Lives Matter collected. That needs to change.

Nhung Truong, 44, mother of three, has had a tough go in the United States. Seven years ago, she lost her husband to liver cancer. She accepted the responsibility of raising her three children and caring for her mother, too, as the sole wage earner. On February 13th, 2023, she stopped at a Bank of America ATM in Houston, Texas, withdrawing $4,300 she intended to use to pay for a trip to visit Vietnam with her family. Then she drove to a shopping mall 24 miles away.

Unknown to her, a young black man and woman had been watching her at the ATM. They followed her for 24 miles to China Town, where the young man, Joseph Harrell, 17, brutally attacked her. He body slammed the small Asian woman so violently that she is now partially paralyzed with spinal cord damage, unable to move her left leg. Harrell made his getaway in a car driven by Zy’Nika Ayesha Woods, 19. They have just recently been arrested. After a month in the hospital, Nhung was released to home care. She will be under care for two years. A GoFundMe campaign has already raised $300,000 for her care.

Image: The attack on Nhung Truong. YouTube screen grab.

The attack only gained attention after Andy Ngo, working with other Asians, brought the crime to public attention about a week ago. The local media had not given the crime attention until the New York Post ran an article.

I prayed about this situation at my peaceful and beautiful prayer place in rural Texas. I could not shake my sadness about Nhung Truong’s brutal assault and horrific injuries, and the desperate financial situation her family finds themselves in. Nor could I forget the desperate plight in which many black Americans find themselves trapped, their voices unheard, their sufferings unnoted, their murders ignored. In Chicago, 71 black victims have been shot and killed since January 1, 2023. Since these 71 people were victims of black criminals, BLM has not a tear to shed or dollar to give them.

I asked God why do you permit this to happen? And I realized that God is in anguish over the situation his children find themselves in. He could change the situation in a second, yet that is not the way He works. Since the Fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, He has depended upon us to do our part to solve the problems that we face in the world. For him to stand back and permit these atrocities by evil persons is the most exasperating challenge he faces. Yet only that way can we, His beloved children, fulfill our responsibility and fully become the Children of God.

So what can we do to deal with the terrible situations that Nhung Trung and many others like her face? The billions donated to Black Lives Matter need to be shifted from defending criminals (or buying houses) to black philanthropic organizations run by churches, which are closest to members of black communities. This is not a partisan issue but a grand humanitarian endeavor. The vast majority of funds would go to black families who have suffered from black-on-black crime. People could model these initiatives on George H. W. Bush’s idea of a thousand points of light, which inspired an organization dedicated to volunteerism.

Who could head up such a grand endeavor? A few suggestions include Dr. Bernice A. King, Martin Luther King’s daughter; Henry Louis Gates, Jr., a Harvard professor; Dr. Ben Carson, a brain surgeon; or Hak Ja Han (Moon), the wife of the founder of the Washington Times.

It’s time to remember that, among the lives that matter in America are those who find themselves victimized by the people who Black Lives Matter funds. We have a moral obligation to help them.

San Francisco Lawmakers Move to Establish $50 Million Reparations Bureaucracy

March 22, 2023

San Francisco lawmakers this week proposed reallocating $50 million of taxpayer funds to establish an Office of Reparations that will ensure the city's black residents receive payments, which may amount to $5 million per person.

San Francisco supervisor Shamann Walton on Tuesday proposed creating the office to ensure the city’s African American Reparations Advisory Committee’s vision is implemented after it makes its final recommendation in June. Walton, who launched the committee in 2020, was joined by his fellow progressive supervisors Hillary Ronen and Dean Preston. It is unclear when the Board of Supervisors will vote on Walton’s proposal.

The pitch will likely quash any remaining skepticism that San Francisco’s representatives aren’t serious about the city’s radical and highly unpopular reparations plan. Last week, the full board of supervisors voiced support for a draft plan to pay $5 million to each of the city’s black residents. The proposed office would increase financial strain on the city, which faces a $728 million budget hole that the mayor warns will likely get worse as businesses and taxpaying residents flee.

In addition to $5 million in reparations, the committee has proposed subsidizing real estate that would allow San Francisco’s black residents to purchase homes for as little as $1. The committee has also proposed establishing 250 years of $97,000 in annual payments to today’s low-income black families and clearing all debts held by black residents.

San Francisco lawmakers condemned taxpayers’ objections to the task force plan as racist last week, as reparations supporters urged policymakers and the public not to get "bogged down" about the costs. The proposal in its current form would cost each San Francisco household nearly $600,000, according to analysis from the Hoover Institution.

Supervisor Rafael Mandelman criticized his constituents’ anxieties as an "overheated and irrational response" to the reparations task force proposals.

"To those of my constituents who lost their minds over this proposal, it’s not something we’re doing or would do for other people," Mandelman said. "It’s something we would do for our future, everybody’s collective future and the generations to come."

The State of California is in the process of advancing its own reparations plan, which could yield payments of $360,000 per eligible resident. The state’s reparations task force has yet to settle on a figure or determine which of California’s 2.5 million black residents would be eligible.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is set to vote on the reparation’s committee’s final recommendations in September. Legislators’ vote on the draft plan was delayed for a month after Walton got stuck in Colombia, where he partied at a local Hooters.

CRIME IN AMERICA IS BLACK!

This story of San Francisco’s continuing degradation hits close to home

I grew up in San Francisco’s Sunset District, a once thriving working- and lower-middle-class neighborhood. An important place in that neighborhood was Stonestown, one of America’s first shopping malls, where generations of children shopped with their mothers and, when older, hung out on their own. It was safe, and there was food. Today, as San Francisco’s government continues its commitment to social Marxism, Stonestown is turning into a violent gang hangout, making it a microcosm of what’s happening to leftist cities across America.

Before World War II, San Francisco’s southwest corner was mostly undeveloped. There were vacation homes there because of the beach proximity, and some rumrunners’ houses, with secret garages, were built well up in the sand dunes.

In the mid-1920s, though, Henry Doelger started developing the entire region, with neighborhoods known as the Sunset and Westlake filling in the sand dunes with rows of well-built single-family homes. That stopped during World War II but resumed with a bang after the war ended because of the demand for homes from America’s Baby Boom families.

These planned communities, unlike older, more organic communities, didn’t have a nearby “Main Street” where the women could get their shopping done. Adjacent to the Sunset, there was West Portal, a shopping street developed along with the streetcar system, but that wasn’t enough for the Sunset’s and Westlake’s burgeoning populations.

Moreover, after WWII, families had cars, and Main Streets had too little parking. Enter the shopping mall or “shopping center,” an artificial Main Street with lots of surrounding parking.

In San Francisco, Henry and Ellis Stoneson created “Stonestown,” an open-air shopping center surrounded by accessible parking lots. The development eventually included apartment towers and a movie theater.

The anchor store was San Francisco’s iconic Emporium, eventually followed by a J. Magnin. The mall offered everything: restaurants, fabrics, music, toys, and clothes, as well as a Woolworth and a Walgreens.

Image: Stonestown in the 1950s-1970s.

Surrounding the mall were Quality Foods Incorporated, one of the first grocery stores; a “professional” building for doctors and dentists; a car dealership; and two high schools (Lowell High School and Mercy).

Growing up, I spent endless hours at Stonestown. My mother regularly shopped there, and we kids went with her. Because it was safe, she’d give us each a quarter, and off we’d go for our own adventures. Or she could drop us off at the movies, knowing we’d be safe until her return.

When I attended Lowell, which had an open campus, we’d head to Stonestown if we had time to kill between classes. We were good kids, and it was a safe place. The merchants didn’t mind us because we didn’t steal and did spend money.

In 1985, the old mall was demolished, and a shiny, new, two-story, generic covered mall appeared, complete with the high-end chain stores known across America (Nordstrom, Williams-Sonoma, Hold Everything, etc.). I still went there on rainy days after my oldest was born so we could get out of the house. There were always a lot of teens there, but they seemed innocuous.

How things have changed. Thanks to San Francisco’s radical left turn, a once-safe community hub has become dangerous:

Mobs of teenagers have clashed in a string of violent San Francisco mall brawls, caught on video in one melee attacking and stomping each other as well as seemingly innocent onlookers.

San Francisco police told Fox News Digital in a statement that three separate incidents took place at the Stonestown Galleria mall from March 15 to March 17 that involved groups of juveniles attacking each other or bystanders.

[snip]

“I’m very scared,” food court vendor Guang Wei, who witnessed one of the fights at the food court, told CBS Bay Area. “I cannot continue to do business here in this kind of environment.”

Supervisor Joel Engardio told the station that the city is 500 police officers below where it should be for a city of its size.

“We need police officers to walk the beat, be on the street, be at shopping centers like Stonestown,” Engardio said. “We don’t have that luxury right now because we have so few police officers.”

The San Francisco Police Department has been battered by staffing shortages in recent years, with the force seeing a 12% decrease in its number of full-duty sworn officers from 2019 to 2022, CBS News reported last month. As of January, the department employed 1,537 police officers, far below the recommended 2,182 officers, according to city Supervisor Matt Dorsey.

“San Francisco is on the precipice of a potentially catastrophic police staffing shortage, and there are too many public safety problems we’ll be helpless to solve if we don’t start solving SFPD’s understaffing crisis first,” Dorsey said in a statement earlier this year.

Mayor London Breed redirected $120 million from law enforcement to fund other city initiatives in 2020 as crime continued to surge in the city – with homicides increasing by 20% in 2020 compared to 2019. Homicides also increased 17% in 2021 compared to the previous year, according to city data.

I know this isn’t big news when you consider what Biden has done to America, but it’s worth noting because it perfectly illustrates what today’s leftists (unlike old-fashioned working-class Democrats) do to cities they govern: They focus solely on advancing Marxist social policies, and abandon a city’s most basic function, which is to keep its citizens safe.

San Francisco used to have a well-staffed, solidly working-class police force that wouldn’t countenance disorder. By the 1990s, though, the police department, like the rest of the city government, was moving left. It was more concerned with proving its social justice bona fides than protecting citizens.

For a while, the Dot Com money hid the incipient rot, thanks to shiny new building projects. Now, though, the rot is everywhere. We routinely see news stories about the open-air drug markets and homeless encampments in the more central parts of the city. It’s easy enough, though, to pass that off as the cost of urban living.

However, the Southwest part of the city was what I always called an urban suburb: It may have been within San Francisco’s borders, but it had wide streets, mostly fully detached homes, intact families, and safe common areas. Thanks to the leftists at the city’s helm, that’s gone too.

'One of the Safest Big Cities' -- According to DA's Office -- Averaged More Than One Murder or Manslaughter per Day in 2022

Three years ago, Jason Rivera wrote a letter to the New York City Police Academy, explaining why he wanted to be a police officer.

"When I applied to become a police officer, I knew this was the career for me," he said.

"I would be the first person in my family to become a police officer," Rivera wrote, as reported by the Daily Mail. "Coming from an immigrant family, I will be the first to say that I am a member of the NYPD, the greatest police force in the world.

"Growing up in New York City, I realized how impactful my role as a police officer would go in this chaotic city of about 10 million people," he said. "I know that something as small as helping a tourist with directions, or helping a couple resolve an issue, will put a smile on someone's face."

Rivera ended up doing something far greater than that — but instead of putting a smile on someone's face, it put tears in their eyes.

On the evening of Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, a 911 call came in at the precinct where Rivera worked. Later that night, James Essig, the New York Police Department chief of detectives, would explain what happened when Rivera, his partner, Officer Wilbert Mora, and a third officer were dispatched to answer that call.

"The 911 caller was a female who stated that she was disputing with her son," Essig told reporters. "She mentioned no injuries and no weapons. Upon entering the apartment, the officers were met by that female caller and her son. After a brief conversation, the officers were informed that her other son, whom she was disputing with, was in the back bedroom."

This bedroom, Essig explained, was about 30 feet down a hallway from the living room where the officers had encountered the mother and the first son.

"This hallway is very tight and narrow," said Essig. "As our first officers approached the bedroom, the door swings open and numerous shots are fired, striking both officers, one fatally, and one is here at Harlem Hospital in critical condition."

The shooter, as Essig explained, had a criminal history.

"As the perpetrator attempts to exit, he is confronted by our third officer, who fires two rounds, striking him in the right arm and head," said Essig. "Our perpetrator is LaShawn McNeil. He is a male, 47 years old. He has one prior arrest in New York City for a felony conviction of narcotics in 2003, and which he is on probation for. He has four arrests outside of New York City: one in South Carolina for an unlawful possession of a weapon in 1998; one for assaulting a police officer in Pennsylvania in 2002; a felony drug in 2003 and a misdemeanor narcotics in 2003 in Pennsylvania.

"Recovered at that scene is a Glock 45 high-capacity magazine, which holds up to 40 additional rounds," said Essig.

"That gun was stolen from Baltimore in 2017," he said.

Officers Rivera and Mora both ultimately died from the gunshot wounds they suffered that night — as did McNeil.

Three weeks before this lethal confrontation, Manhattan had sworn in its new district attorney, Alvin Bragg. A few days later, The New York Times ran a story with this headline: "Manhattan D.A. Acts on Vow to Seek Incarceration Only for Worst Crimes."

"Manhattan's new district attorney began this week to adopt the lenient policies he campaigned on, setting the stage for potential conflict inside and outside his office as he tries to change the way criminal justice is administered in the borough," the Times reported.

"The district attorney, Alvin Bragg, told prosecutors in his office in a memo that they should ask judges for jail or prison time only for the most serious offenses — including murder, sexual assault and economic crimes involving vast sums of money — unless the law requires them to do otherwise," said the Times.

One of Bragg's early critics was Dominque Luzuriaga, the widow of Officer Rivera.

She delivered a eulogy at her husband's funeral at St. Patrick's Cathedral.

"The system continues to fail us," she said in that eulogy. "We are not safe anymore, not even the members of the service.

"I know you were tired of these laws, especially the ones from the new DA," she said to her departed husband. "I hope he's watching you speak through me right now."

At this point, the congregation stood to give Officer Rivera's widow a prolonged ovation.

"I am sure all of our blue family is tired, too," she said, when the ovation subsided. "But I promise — we promise — that your death won't be in vain. I love you to the end of time. We'll take the watch from here."

This week, as reported by Politico, Bragg's office put out a statement declaring "New York remains one of the safest big cities in the U.S. with a far lower murder rate than the most populous cities."

In 2022, according to the NYPD, there were 438 murders and non-negligent manslaughters in New York City. That works out to an average of one every 20 hours — or more than one per day. While that was less than the 488 murders and non-negligent manslaughters in New York City in 2021, or the 468 in 2020, it was significantly more than the 292 in 2017; the 295 in 2018; or the 319 in 2019.

In the beginning of this year (through March 12), according to data published by the NYPD, there have been 66 murders in New York City. That works out to about one every 25.8 hours.

If holding the rate of murders and manslaughters to approximately one per day makes a big city one of our nation's safest — and justifies a district attorney's office bragging about the murder rate — we have a violent crime problem in this country.

Rampant Crime, Public Drug Use, Vagrancy Are Part of 'Basic City Life,' Democrats Argue

Counterpoint: No, they're not

March 22, 2023

What's happening: Democrats are beginning to lash out at people who think crime is bad by insisting that having your car burglarized and riding the subway next to a fentanyl-smoking vagrant are "basic city life experiences."

Wait, seriously? Yes. John Hamasaki, a former San Francisco police commissioner and the failed Democratic Party-endorsed candidate for district attorney following the successful recall of Chesa Boudin, recently lashed out at a tech CEO who lamented that two of his colleagues will be "scarred forever" after having their laptops and passports stolen from their parked car.

"Is this what the suburbs do to you?" Hamasaki wrote on Twitter. "Shelter you from basic city life experiences so that when they happen you are broken to the core?"

Wow, that's deranged. Yes, it is. The same day Hamasaki posted his dumb tweet, a mob of teens took part in a massive brawl at a popular shopping mall—one of several "incidents of mob violence among school-age kids" resulting in "physical injuries" at the location. In other words, just another basic city life experience.

Do Democrats even care about crime? Not really. (See: San Francisco.) The Democrats in charge of Los Angeles, for example, have allowed the city's metro system to be overrun by fentanyl-addicted vagrants. Some liberal experts are adamant that enforcing the law "isn't a solution," which is even more bizarre given their insistence that more people use public transportation to save the planet or whatever.

What are Democrats saying about crime? They tend to ignore the issue or pretend it isn't real. Gov. Kathy Hochul (D., N.Y.) suggested rising crime in New York City was a "conspiracy" invented by Republican "manipulators." She changed her tune somewhat after barely winning reelection (in New York!) against a Republican challenger who ran almost exclusively on crime.

Who's to blame? Everyone but the criminals, as far as most Democrats are concerned. This week California attorney general Rob Bonta (D.) blamed car manufacturers for the spike in vehicle thefts on his watch. "Families shouldn’t have to worry that manufacturers are cutting corners that could put their purchase at risk," Bonta wrote in a letter signed by 22 other attorneys general attacking auto firms Kia and Hyundai for making vehicles that are too easy to steal.

What's the bottom line? Democrats are ill-equipped to address rising crime due to their inclination to believe that criminals are the real victims, whereas actual crime victims are a bunch of Karens who should just shut up and take it.

1% of Democrat Counties Make Up 42% of America’s Murders

America doesn’t have a crime problem, it has a Democrat problem.

(Copies of I Can’t Breathe: How A Racial Hoax is Killing America, David Horowitz’s book, exposing the crimes of BLM are free with any purchase from the Freedom Center store.)

Democrats desperately trying to spin high crime rates caused by their pro-crime policies began falsely claiming that crime was a Republican problem. The media began running articles with headlines like, “Red States Have Higher Murder Rates” and “Republicans Like to Talk Tough on Crime — But They’re the Ones with a Real Crime Problem”.

New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, who once claimed that the internet would have no more of an impact than the fax machine, argued that high crime was really a Republican problem and decided to prove it by claiming that, “Oklahoma’s murder rate was almost 50 percent higher than California’s, almost double New York’s.”

Krugman, who somehow has a Nobel Prize, failed to note that most of the murders were coming out of Oklahoma City and Tulsa. In last year’s gubernatorial election, Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt won most of the state while Oklahoma, Tulsa and Cleveland counties however went to leftist Democrat Joy Hofmeister. The ‘blue’ parts of Oklahoma are also red with blood.

“The fact is the rates of violent crime are higher in Oklahoma under your watch,” Hoffmeister had claimed in a viral gubernatorial debate attack. Oklahoma had 287 murders in 2020: 166 came out of Oklahoma County and Tulsa County, the two counties that supported Hoffmeister.

Oklahoma County and Tulsa are two of the 62 counties that were responsible for 56% of America’s murders in 2020. A groundbreaking study by John R. Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center, revealed that “1% of counties have 21% of the population and 42% of the murders” and  “2% of counties contain 31% of the population and 56% of the murders.”

The 1% of bloody red counties include such Democrat strongholds as Philadelphia, New York City, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Dallas, D.C., Miami-Dade, Milwaukee, San Diego, St. Louis, Chicago’s Cook County, L Houston’s Harris County, Detroit’s Wayne County, Memphis’ Shelby County, Pheonix’s Maricopa County, Cleveland’s Cuyahoga County, and many others.

Biden won Cook County, the bloodiest county in the country, by 66%. He won Los Angeles County, the second bloodiest, by 71%, Harris County by 56%, Philadelphia by 81%, New York City by 76%, Wayne County by 68%, and Shelby County by 64%.

Shelby was not only one of the three counties in Tennessee to vote Democrat, it was also responsible for 311 of the state’s 682 murders. Similarly, Wayne County was responsible for 379 of Michigan’s 693 murders. Houston accounted for 405 of the 537 murders in Harris County and along with Dallas’ 251 murders, Austin’s 47, San Antonio’s 128, Fort Worth’s 99, accounted for around half of murders in Texas. Maricopa County made up 299 of the 423 murders in Arizona.

Marion County, where Indianapolis is located, accounted for nearly half of the murders in the state, even though it has less than 10% of the population. Milwaukee was responsible for 201 of Wisconsin’s 308 murders even though it also has less than 10% of the population.

There isn’t a red state murder problem, red states have a Democrat crime problem.

The CPRC study showed that while 2% of counties populated by Democrats were responsible for 56% of the country’s murders, 52% of counties had no murders and 68% of counties had at most one murder.

These numbers clearly show that America is not a violent country, that we do not have a crime problem and that gun culture is not the issue: crime culture in Democrat cities is the issue.

Democrat crime cities and counties have created a massive social problem that otherwise would hardly exist. As the study notes, “If the 1% of the counties with the worst number of murders somehow were to become a separate country, the murder rate in the rest of the US would have been only 4.31 in 2020. Removing the worst 2% or 5% would have reduced the US rate to just 3.71 or 2.99 per 100,000, respectively.” We could have the murder rate of New Zealand.

If it wasn’t for the Democrat crime counties.

America is not a dangerous or crime-ridden country. Unfortunately Democrat cities are overrun with criminals and the politicians who cater to them. The Democrats became an urban party and, after jettisoning the white working class and the small business middle class became the party of criminals. From police defunding to the Black Lives Matter riots to mass jailbreaks and the legalization of drugs and shoplifting in major cities, they embraced pro-crime policies that unleashed a massive crime wave. And now they pretend not to know what’s causing the crime.

“Nationwide, violent crime rose substantially in 2020,” Krugman admitted. “Nobody knows for sure what caused the surge — just as nobody knows for sure what caused the epic decline in crime from 1990 to the mid-2010.”

Tough-on-crime policies cut crime in the 90s and the oughts: pro-crime policies boosted crime.

There’s no mystery here. Crime is caused by repeat offenders. In the 90s we began locking them up and then about 5 years ago, we began letting them go at the federal and state level.

In ‘I Can’t Breathe: How a Racial Hoax Is Killing America’, David Horowitz exposed the lies behind the Black Lives Matter pro-crime movement and warned of the pandemic of crime that was being unleashed. That hoax has unleashed unprecedented violence, but that crime wave largely remains confined to Democrat areas where criminals prey on members of the party.

More than an additional 5,000 people were killed in 2020. There is little doubt that the disproportionate majority of both the victims and the killers were Democrats. Democrat pro-crime policies are killing Americans, but mostly they’re killing fellow Democrats.

An added 5,000 murders alone means $85 billion in costs. That’s a fraction of the money, estimated at half a trillion dollars, that we spend every year coping with the criminal justice and social problems caused by Democrat crime.

America could be a safe and pleasant place to live. And the majority of its counties, which are mostly Republican, are. Unfortunately many of its Democrat counties are broken places, packed with broken families, criminal cultures and leftist politicians who pander to the criminals.

And the party and its media cover it up with lies about systemic racism.

As David Horowitz warned in, ‘I Can’t Breathe: How a Racial Hoax Is Killing America’, the consequences of these lies is more of the same misery, more crime and more death.

Philly’s “Pay-to-Riot” Gives $9 million to BLM Protesters

"Shattered windows, burned clothes, businesses destroyed."

Between May and June 2020, heroic PPD police officers, outnumbered, outmatched and with no support from local officials, battled the violent hateful BLM mobs rampaging through West Philly.

The racist mobs looted small businesses in the mostly black area, destroying lives and livelihoods, while assaulting police officers and anyone who tried to get in their way. Buildings were set on fire and mobs shrieking “Black Lives Matter” and other racist slogans hurled rocks, bricks and Molotov cocktails at officers who were risking their lives to stop the violence.

Some local residents who had enough also defied the rioting mobs and joined with a community group known as, “Take Back the Streets” to line up and stand in the way of the rioters.

“Shattered windows, burned clothes, businesses destroyed,” the Philadelphia Inquirer headlined its coverage of the aftermath. “In Philadelphia, residents couldn’t find the words and simply shook their heads as they stepped over piles of ash and peered into shattered windows.”

“‘I can’t stop walking or I’ll start crying,’ a woman told her daughter as they stepped over a scorched mannequin.”

The rioters had left behind graffiti taking credit for the attack and referencing the slogans of the BLM hate group, including, “I can’t breathe” and “Justice 4 Floyd” referring to George Floyd, a career criminal who had robbed a woman at gunpoint and whose drug overdose death while being restrained by police had been used to justify the latest round of race riots.

Now the payoff is coming, not for the small business owners, but for the rioting mobs.

New York City offered a record $6 million payout to “F___ the Police” protesters because while restraining them the NYPD officers “frequently failed to wear masks”, now Philly is offering another record $9.25 million payoff to the racist mobs in West Philly. Not to their victims.

“We hope this settlement will provide some healing from the harm experienced by people in their neighborhoods in West Philadelphia,” Mayor Jim Kenney, who has presided over record crime rates, said of the $9 million payoff snatched from the mouths of hungry children.

In 2014, the year before Kenney was elected, there were 248 murders in Philadelphia. In 2022, that number had more than doubled to 516. This year there have already been 92. In 2020, the year of the BLM pro-crime riots, murders shot up from 353 to 499. In 2021, they hit 562: the worst numbers in Philly history. That’s what real “harm” in West Philly looks like.

This $9 million payoff is based in part on a complaint that while police officers were ducking bricks and Molotov cocktails, they fired off tear gas which caused “difficulty breathing” and “mental trauma”.

The officers hit with bricks and explosive devices don’t get to sue for their “mental trauma”. And the small business owners and other civilians are entirely out of luck after suffering millions in losses and untold amounts of mental trauma at the hands of the rioting BLM mobs.

Nor do the more than 30 officers injured in the subsequent riots after they were banned from using rubber bullets and tear gas against the racist mobs trying to kill them. That included the 56-year-old female police sergeant hit by a black pickup truck leaving her with a broken leg.

Philly Democrats made it clear early on that there would be no justice after the riots. Soros DA Larry Krasner, whose pro-crime policies have been blamed for much of the city’s crime wave, announced that he would avoid prosecuting 80% of those arrested. Instead, they’d be routed through a pro-crime ‘restorative justice’ model in which the criminal offers some sort of apology and promises not to do it again. The rioters would then be referred to “education and job opportunities” before conveniently having their records expunged so they can do it again.

It was ultimately up to the feds to provide some accountability, indicting rioters like Derrick Weatherbe who filled shopping carts with looted goods before streaming himself trying to set the store on fire with a stolen lighter, doing the job that Krasner and Philly Dems refused to do.

The head of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce had protested that minority businesses targeted by the racist mobs felt abandoned. “There is no assurance from the city of protecting them. They seem to be more concerned with protecting the offenders.”

Now Philly isn’t just protecting them, it’s paying them.

$9.2 million divided evenly among 300 plaintiffs would amount to $30,000 a head. Meanwhile, small businesses which suffered hundreds of thousands worth of damages, often got nothing.

Philly Democrats are paying their base to riot.

In the aftermath, one store owner described how, “the parts of the floor that weren’t covered in glass and tossed clothing were flooded. Demonstrators had tried to light three fires inside the store.”

“I cried on the way down and tried to get it out then. And I go in and out of wanting to cry again.”

The message to police and business owners is that Philly Democrats will stand with the rioters, not with them.

“The Philadelphia Police Department did not simply harm and terrorize individual people exercising their right to protest,”  Rachel Kleinman of the Legal Defense Fund, claimed. “It inflicted wanton violence and devastated a predominately Black community.”

The violence was inflicted by protesters on police.

As Councilwoman Jamie Gauthier, who is black and and an opponent of the police, wrote during the riots, “At first things appeared calm, but it quickly turned into a standoff, with protesters throwing bricks and other objects in the direction of the police. As protesters became more aggressive, police ratcheted up their aggression and intimidation”.

The fact is that the violence did not begin with the police. And the police heroically tried to get it under control. Instead of paying the cops, police-defunding Democrats are paying the rioters.

The New York City and Philly payoffs are part of a larger pattern of state-sponsored BLM violence. Wounded police officers and civilians have tried to sue BLM organizations and chapters in vain, but it may be time for them to sue the governments that have promoted, enabled and funded the race riots that took lives, wrecked neighborhoods and killed hope.

BLM has functioned as the contemporary equivalent of the KKK. Both BLM and the KKK were covert arms of local Democrat governments which used the violence to intimidate political opponents. Municipal governments have promoted BLM, undermined law enforcement efforts to stop the racist violence and offer record payoffs knowing that this will inspire future riots. It’s time for the small businesses devastated by government-backed riots to sue cities like Philly.

The riots won’t end until BLM’s state sponsors are held accountable for their crimes.

Study: ‘Family Structure’ a Major Factor in Racial Disparities in School Conduct and Suspensions

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/11/23/study-family-structure-a-major-factor-in-racial-disparities-in-school-conduct-and-suspensions/

A new study affirms what many public policy analysts say is intuitive — that unstable family structure, including chaotic households and single-parent homes, is a primary factor in racial disparities in school behavior and suspensions.

Houston teens arrested in caught-on-camera 'jugging' robbery that left woman paralyzed

Houston teens arrested in caught-on-camera 'jugging' robbery that left woman paralyzed

Two teens have been arrested and charged in connection to the caught-on-camera "jugging" of a Houston woman who was left paralyzed as a result of the violent robbery of cash that she had withdrawn from a bank.

The arrests of Joseph Harrell, 17, and Zy'Nika Ayesha Woods, 19, were announced at a press conference Friday, more than a month after Nhung Truong was brutalized the day before Valentine’s Day.

Surveillance video showed a Black male suspect wearing a red, white and black sweatshirt with an Air Jordan "Jumpman" logo, dark shorts and sneakers grab Truong, who had withdrawn an estimated $4,300 in cash from a Bank of America for a planned trip to see family in Vietnam.

Police said Harrell and Woods followed the mother of three from the bank to a nearby business by car.

‘JUGGING’ AMONG NEW CRIME TREND POSING DANGER ON AMERICA'S STREETS: WHAT TO KNOW

Houston jugging suspects
Joseph Harrell, 17, and Zy'Nika Ayesha Woods, 19, have been charged with aggravated robbery in the "jugging" incident on Nhung Truong last month.

Harrell allegedly got out of the vehicle driven by Woods and assaulted the victim. The video shows how the 17-year-old first took Truong’s wallet and started to run away, but upon realizing that he didn’t have the money that Truong withdrew from the bank, he immediately turned around and tried to wrestle away the envelope of money that she was holding. Harrell then picked her up and slammed her down onto the concrete, causing severe injuries, Houston police Detective Tyrus Fontenot said. Surveillance video helped detectives determine the license plate of the vehicle seen leaving the scene of the crime.

Nhung Truong, seen in a hospital bed with her mother and children, was left paralyzed after being attacked by a robber in Houston.

With assistance from the Westside gang unit, Woods was first detained for a traffic violation. During her interview with detectives, she confessed to her involvement in the robbery on Truong and also implicated Harrell, Fontenot said. Another detective had already been preparing a warrant for Harrell in a separate aggravated assault case. With assistance from the gang unit, he was located and brought into custody on that warrant. Harrell also allegedly confessed to the attack on Truong, Fontenot said.

"This type of violence will not be tolerated in our city. It is just senseless," Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said Friday. "I just spoke to Ms. Truong about an hour ago and assured her, and I want the city of Houston to stand behind us. These are very serious injuries. The recovery is very long. And I want her to know the love of our agency but also our great citizens in this city."

"I just want people to know if you are foolish enough to commit these types of crimes, we will find you," Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, a Democrat, added. "It may take a few days. It may take a few weeks. But we will find you, and we’ll get you off the streets. Then I will trust the other parts of our system, criminal justice system, to make sure that they remain off the streets, so it doesn’t happen to somebody else."

Fox News Digital also reached out to the Harris County District Attorney's Office for comment.

Nhung Truong was hospitalized for more than a month after being attacked by a robber in Houston.

KTRK reported that Harrell was out on bond at the time of the attack for two charges and that he is also accused of the aggravated assault of another woman 12 days after Truong was hurt. Woods is being held on a $50,000 bond, while bond has not yet been set for Harrell, according to the outlet.

A GoFundMe account set up by Truong’s family raised more than $263,000 by Monday.

Her daughter wrote that Truong, who suffered a spinal cord injury, was discharged from the hospital Friday for what is expected to be a years-long recovery process.
