Nolte: Democrat-Run San Francisco Loses Two Major 2024 Tech Conferences
Two major tech conferences scheduled to book thousands of hotel rooms in crime-infested San Francisco have been canceled.
The San Francisco Business Times reports that the “IBM-owned open-source software giant Red Hat Inc. has canceled plans to host its annual technology summit at San Francisco’s Moscone Center in 2024 and 2025.”
Two years wiped off the books. The report adds that both the 2024 and 2025 conferences would have generated around 40,000 hotel nights. Instead, the conferences are moving to Denver in 2024 and Orlando in 2025.
Additionally, Facebook’s parent company Meta bailed on a March 2024 event that would’ve generated around 16,254 hotel room nights.
That’s more than 56,000 hotel room nights canceled by left-wing, multinational corporations.
Gee, I wonder why?
“2024 continues to be a particularly challenging year for conventions in San Francisco,” Nicole Rogers, SF Travel’s executive vice president and chief sales officer, told the Business Times, adding, “Although 2023 is a robust convention year, 2024 is estimated to actualize about 60% of the average.”
Or down a whopping 40 percent.
Despite a whole lot of spin, this is the bottom line:
The moves are a blow to the city’s largest conference venue as it tries to stay competitive with venues around the country that are less expensive and not in the crosshairs of negative headlines about downtown street conditions. SF Travel, the city’s tourism bureau and booker of citywide events at the Moscone Center, earlier this year slashed its target goals for Moscone-related hotel room nights through 2030 amid cancellations and slower-than-expected demand.
The spin is that conference bookings past 2024 look positive. Whatever. There is still plenty of time for those bookings to back out if Democrat-run San Francisco doesn’t do something about what we used to call “urban decay.”
This once robust and popular city is now seen as a hotbed of car thefts, assaults, robberies, population loss, fleeing businesses, and stroller moms getting mugged by bat-wielding teens.

The worst part of what’s happening in the City by the Bay is that no one, including voters, is interested in doing what is necessary to solve this problem. You see, they would rather own the Trumptards than embrace the tried-and-true policies that reduce crime and homeless encampments. To do so would be an admission that far-left public policy is a failure, and common sense policy — which is now seen by Democrats as racist — actually works.
San Francisco is a doom spiral, but the only way out is for Democrats to admit they are wrong, and that is something Democrats never do.
Honestly, who can blame these conferences for canceling? Although I consider any kind of business conference to be a circle of hell, a lot of people enjoy them. By day, they pretend to pay attention and feign excitement during the actual conferences. But what they are all there for is the off-hours… The nightlife… The bars, restaurants, and carousing. Everyone wants to relax, drink too much, and eat too much. They want to flirt with Ms. Hickenpacker from Human Resources and see if she really is beautiful without her glasses.
But it’s a little hard to relax while you’re stepping over human feces through an encampment straight out of the Walking Dead or while you worry about your rental car being broken into.
Oh, well… I don’t care. I live here.
Burn, Democrat-run cities, burn. And I don’t feel bad feeling that way. This is what San Francisco voters want. This is America. Everyone should get what they want. The more these Democrat-run cities get it, the happier I am.

Illinois to Require Landlords Rent to Illegal Aliens as Housing Costs Surge
Illinois will soon require landlords to rent and sell property to illegal aliens, opening the housing market to tens of thousands considered deportable from the United States, even as rents remain sky-high in metropolitan areas like Chicago.
Late last month, Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) signed SB 1817 into law, which will add “immigration status” as a protected class under the Illinois Human Rights Act.
The law ensures that landlords across Illinois will be banned from refusing to rent or sell property to illegal aliens strictly because they are illegally in the U.S.
“This law sets clear boundaries, protecting the rights of immigrants and ensuring that financial institutions and service providers cannot engage in discriminatory practices,” State Sen. Ann Gillespie (D) said in a statement. “Putting these protections in place will promote fairness to ensure people are not unjustly denied housing.”
The law comes as housing costs for Americans remain sky-high in Illinois.
For example, in Chicago, the median rent today is about $1,900 a month — a bill that is out of reach for most working and middle class Americans. Compare that to last year when the median rent in Chicago was $1,750 a month.
Decades of research have detailed the impact mass immigration has on housing costs for Americans. The results are so evident that establishment media outlets like the New York Times and New York Magazine have acknowledged the issue.
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) has been a singular voice in the Republican Party raising the alarm on mass immigration’s detrimental impact on housing costs that prevents first-time home buyers and those looking to move from securing property.
“Think about what this does for housing prices when you have to house 10 million people that shouldn’t be here, that drives up the costs of housing when interest rates are already through the roof,” Vance told Breitbart News earlier this year.
“This is economic warfare and theft of the American dream from American citizens, that is the big problem here and that’s why we have to keep fighting it,” he continued.
In 2013, a study by the Michael Bloomberg-funded New American Economy, which promotes mass immigration, explained how the importing of tens of millions of immigrants over decades had helped raise housing costs by $3.7 trillion for the next generation of homebuyers but spun the figure as the creation of “housing wealth.”

Scott Baio on Moving to Florida: ‘I’ve Watched Southern California Devolve into a Third World Country’
Actor Scott Baio, the Charles in Charge, Arrested Development star, said he moved from California to Florida because the Golden State had devolved into a “third-world country.”
Baio gave his explanation for the big move when speaking with Fox News host Jesse Watters on Tuesday.
“I’ve been there for 45 years, Jesse, and I’ve watched Southern California devolve into a third world country,” Baio said. “Between the homeless defecating on the sidewalk, doing drugs on the sidewalk in the middle of the day, illegal aliens all over the place, laws mean nothing, crime is out of control, graffiti on everything.”
“And all my tax dollars, I don’t know what they go for. I’m afraid to go to the mall, my wife and kid are afraid to go to the mall,” he added. “I’ve been in California a very, very long time and it’s so sad to me, I’ve got family and I’ve got friends there. I didn’t want to leave, but I’ve been pretty much forced out.”
Though Baio would list himself as a conservative, he did note that other less conservative celebrities like Katy Perry have also left California.
“You know what’s interesting to me? You know how many requests I’ve had for interviews because I tweeted I’m leaving California? Maybe 40. Nobody has ever asked, that I know of, any liberal actor that’s left California to come on and talk about why they left California,” Baio said. “Katy Perry left California to move to Kentucky or something. Me, because I want to get out of the hell hole that it’s become, I don’t get it. I must be a unicorn or something.”
Baio also scolded California for floating the possibility of slavery and racial reparations. As Breitbart News reported, the California Reparations Task Force also recommended that California review its past housing ordinances to rectify any discrimination.
Despite initially opposing reparations, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) eventually caved and backed the proposal.

Second Bus Carrying Migrants from Texas Arrives in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A bus carrying migrants from a Texas border city arrived in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday for the second time in less than three weeks.
The office of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was not formally notified but became aware on Friday of the bus dispatched from Brownsville, Texas, to L.A. Union Station, Bass spokesperson Zach Seidl said in a statement.
“The City of Los Angeles believes in treating everyone with respect and dignity and will do so,” he said.
The bus arrived around 12:40 p.m., and the 41 asylum-seekers on board were welcomed by a collective of faith and immigrant rights groups. Eleven children were on the bus, according to a statement by the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights.
The asylum seekers came from Cuba, Belize, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. They received water, food, clothing, and initial legal immigration assistance at St. Anthony’s Croatian Parish Center and church.
Jorge-Mario Cabrera, a spokesperson for the coalition, said the group “was less stressed and less chaotic than the previous time.” He said most were picked up by family in the area and appeared to have had sandwiches and water, unlike the first time.
Los Angeles was not the final destination for six people who needed to fly to Las Vegas, Seattle, San Francisco, and Oakland, he said.
The city received a bus carrying 42 migrants from Texas on June 14. Many were from Latin American countries, including Honduras and Venezuela, and they were not provided with water or food.
Bass said at the time that the city would not be swayed by “petty politicians playing with human lives.”
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he sent the bus to Los Angeles because California had declared itself a “sanctuary” for immigrants, extending protections to people living in the country illegally.
It was unclear if Abbott sent the latest bus. A phone message to his office was not immediately returned.
Earlier in June, the state of Florida picked up three dozen migrants in Texas and sent them by private jet to California’s capital, catching shelters and aid workers in Sacramento by surprise.

Poll: 7 in 10 Voters Say U.S. in State of ‘Cultural and Economic Decline’
Seven in ten Americans believe the U.S. is in a state of “cultural and economic decline,” the latest Convention of States Action/Trafalgar Group survey found.
The survey asked respondents if they believe the U.S. is in a state of “cultural and economic decline” and found that most, 72.5 percent, believe it is. Another 21.6 believe it is not, and 5.9 percent remain unsure.
Interestingly, there is bipartisan consensus, as most — 91.7 percent of Republicans, 71.5 percent of independents, and 50.7 percent of Democrats — believe the U.S. is in a state of cultural and economic decline.
When asked who is best equipped to reverse this state of decline, most across the board, 80.6 percent, said “everyday Americans” as opposed to 19.4 percent who said “elected officials.”
Once again, there is bipartisan consensus as 72.1 percent of Democrats, 80.7 percent of Republicans, and 87.5 percent of independents agree that “everyday Americans” are best equipped to halt and reverse the decline.
The survey was taken June 5-9, among 1,088 general election voters and has a +/- 2.9 percent margin of error.
The poll was released toward the end of what society has deemed “pride month,” which put the general state of cultural decay on full display, with woke companies pushing leftist agenda items to the forefront of their businesses.
Target, for example, came under fire after pushing the transgender agenda, offering transgender swimsuits for adults. One such swimsuit was advertised as “tuck-friendly” for males who wish to “tuck away” their genitals to appear more feminine. Target also advertised a swimsuit as having a “light binding” effect for females who wish to flatten their breasts to appear more masculine.
Perhaps what is more, the popular retailer also offered an array of pride-themed items for children and babies, including apparel advertised as “Thoughtfully Fit on Multiple Body Types and Gender Expressions.”

Meanwhile, economic decline has been on the forefront of Americans’ minds since President Biden took office, as the country has experienced high inflation and record-high gas prices during that time.
Most, 52 percent, disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy, the latest survey from The Economist/YouGov found.
