House Speaker McCarthy Announces Impeachment Inquiry: ‘Here’s What We Know So Far’

Despite media and Democrat claims there’s “no evidence” of wrongdoing by President Joe Biden, House Speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) spelled out the evidence as he announced the launch of an impeachment inquiry regarding the president’s ties to his son’s legally-dubious, highly-lucrative business dealings with foreign nationals.

“House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden's conduct” that “paint a picture of a culture of corruption,” Speaker McCarthy began his announcement.

“Here's what we know so far,” McCarthy said, listing the findings regarding Pres. Joe Biden:

• “Through our investigations we have found that President Biden did lie to the American people about his own knowledge of his family's foreign business dealings.”
• “[B]ank records show that nearly $20 million in payments were directed to the Biden's family members and associates to various shell companies.”
• “The Treasury Department alone has more than 150 transactions involving the Biden family and other business associates that were flagged as suspicious activity by U.S. banks.”
• “Even a trusted FBI informant has alleged a bribe to the Biden family.”
• “Biden used his official office to coordinate with Hunter Biden's business partners about Hunter's role in Burisma, the Ukrainian energy company.”
• “[D]espite these serious allegations, it appears that the president's family had been offered special treatment by Biden's own administration.”

 

“These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption. And they warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives,” McCarthy said. “That's why, today, I am directing our House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.”

“I do not make this decision lightly. Regardless of your party or who you voted for, these facts should concern all Americans,” Speaker McCarthy said, promising that Republicans are simply seeking the truth and will “go wherever the evidence takes us.”

Without addressing any of the items cited in McCarthy’s laundry list of allegations, Democrats and their liberal media cohorts continue to cry out in unison the same two words: “No evidence.”

“House Republicans have been investigating the President for 9 months, and they've turned up no evidence of wrongdoing,” White House Spokesman Sams claimed Tuesday, reacting to McCarthy’s announcement.

“For months, the left-wing media have been lying outright to their audiences about the status of President Biden’s corruption scandal,” NewsBusters reports:

“Despite heaps of documents, damning statements from multiple witnesses, and sworn testimony from whistleblowers, journalists are still claiming with alarming frequency that there is ‘no evidence’ Biden was involved in an influence-peddling scheme as Vice President.”

The American public doesn’t appear to be duped by the media’s “no evidence” mantra, however, as 61% say that then-Vice President Joe Biden certainly was involved in his son’s shady business dealings.

The impeachment inquiry will be led by Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY), Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO).

CROSSROADS TONIGHT

The White House sent out a memo calling on news outlets to “do more to scrutinize House Republicans.” It included 14 pages of talking points for them to use when defending President Joe Biden in the newly launched impeachment inquiry. Its cover email reads like a call to arms for state-controlled news outlets. It says, “It’s time for the media to ramp up its scrutiny of House Republicans for opening an impeachment inquiry based on lies.” Since when does the White House declare that it’s time for supposedly independent news outlets to attack its political enemies? It also calls on the media to break from the normal news cycles while launching these attacks. It says they shouldn’t cover the impeachment as just a “process story,” where, as it states, coverage may include “Republicans say X, but the White House says Y.” No, instead of covering the news and showing both sides, the memo calls for more active attacks against House Republican leaders.
