Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Kevin Morris, threatened legal scholar and television commentator Jonathan Turley with a defamation lawsuit for his criticism of alleged Biden corruption, Turley revealed Friday.

Following the initial “Laptop from Hell” report by the New York Post in 2020, the House launched an impeachment inquiry into the Biden family. Investigators revealed President Joe Biden received money from James and Hunter Biden. They also showed that nine additional Biden family members received payments from the family’s foreign business ventures, including two of Joe Biden’s grandchildren.

In addition, the inquiry also compelled Morris to verify that he purchased Hunter’s ten percent stake in a Chinese state-backed investment fund, BHR Partners, confirming Breitbart News’s exclusive in April. BHR Partners, an entity controlled by the Bank of China, has about $3 billion currently invested around the world, according to its website.

The inquiry also forced Morris to admit he loaned Hunter millions of dollars to maintain his lifestyle and pay his taxes and legal fees, actions that caused America First Legal to file a bar complaint with the State Bar of California.

Turley, an outspoken critic of the Biden family business, did not back down upon Morris’s threat of legal action. Instead, he slammed Morris in a Friday essay for his arrangement with Hunter.

“The effort in such threats is to silence or chill critics in their criticism of a wealthy, powerful public figure like Mr. Morris,” he said. Turley then highlighted Morris’s recent congressional testimony and his ownership of Hunter’s stake in BHR Painters:

[T]he transcript refers to Morris investing or assuming interest in entities associated with Hunter’s foreign partners or businesses. It is not clear what financial interest Morris assumed with regard to any real property owned by Hunter. I specifically asked Sullivan [Morris’ lawyer] about such transactions. These business interests appear to have arisen after Morris delved into his client’s finances as his counsel. His client was in obvious financial distress at the time. It is important to determine if Morris assumed interest or purchased assets due to his knowledge of Hunter’s past dealings.

Again, there is a telling exchange with Morris of his ownership of 10% of Bohai Harvest RST LLC (BHR), through his acquisition of interest in Skaneateles LLC. Those are business interests associated with Hunter Biden. Note the apparent confusion of Morris in his knowledge and claims of privilege (emphasis added):

Q Did you have a written agreement with Hunter Biden regarding the sale of Skaneateles?

A I don’t know. I don’t believe so. Or — I don’t know. Probably, yeah. Probably, it was the — I would imagine I had to — okay, yeah. The answer is yes.

Mr. Liner. You had legal counsel as well.

Mr. Morris. Correct. A lot of them.

Q Does that contract allow for Hunter Biden to purchase back BHR at a certain time point?

A That I don’t — I can’t tell you, Counsel.

Mr. Liner. Meaning you don’t know?

Mr. Morris. Meaning I don’t know.

This is an exchange after Morris was told weeks in advance that he would be asked about his payments, loans, and agreements with Hunter Biden. Yet, Morris is still not clear on what agreements he had with his client or key details on those transactions. He is not even sure if he is holding an asset (that is the subject of congressional inquiry into his client’s dealings) that he might just give back to his client at some point.

Turley’s analysis raises questions about Morris’s intent for the acquisition, as related to his ongoing personal and business relationship with the first family, along with the business partnership he now has with a Chinese Community Party-linked fund. Some question whether Morris’s newly acquired stake in BHR Partners is a form of collateral to protect himself from Hunter not repaying his debts.

Kevin Morris Claims ‘No Ulterior Motive’ in Giving Hunter Biden Millions

Hunter Biden’s Hollywood lawyer, Kevin Morris, told the House impeachment inquiry on Thursday that he had “no ulterior motive” in mind when he developed a financial relationship with Hunter Biden.

Since meeting in 2019, Morris paid Hunter’s IRS debts and reportedly lent him a total of $4.9 million for housing, car payments, and legal fees.

Morris also took control of Hunter’s ten percent stake in a Chinese state-backed fund, BHR Partners, Just the News reported in October, confirming Breitbart News’s exclusive in April. BHR Partners has about $3 billion currently invested around the world, its website says.

“My only goal was and is to help my friend and client,” Morris told investigators. “In this country, there is no prohibition against helping a friend in need with no ulterior motive.”

Morris is a slick businessman. He runs a successful law firm that launched in 1996, representing A-list celebrities, such as Matthew McConaughey, Ellen DeGeneres, and Scarlett Johansson. He also wrote and produced documentaries and helped negotiate a South Park deal for $900 million.

The entertainment lawyer is also at the center of Hunter’s career of painting modern art, an occupation connected to the art market known for corruption. Morris helped Hunter forge a framework to sell art to anonymous buyers through a dealer with ties to the Chinese art market. Morris was also involved in Hunter’s 2021 controversial memoir. Both Morris and Hunter Biden are represented by the same agents, the New York Post reported.

As a longtime Democrat donor, Morris met Hunter in 2019 after the Hollywood lawyer donated to then-candidate Joe Biden’s presidential campaign. Morris later earned the reputation of Hunter’s “sugar brother” and “fixer.”

“I did not and do not have any expectations of receiving anything from Hunter’s father or the Biden administration in exchange for helping Hunter, nor have I asked for anything from President Biden or his administration,” Morris promised investigators.

“I have loaned Hunter money to help him through his difficulties,” Morris continued. “When needed, we each have had attorneys separately advise us on these transactions. I am confident Hunter will repay these loans.”

It is unknown how Hunter will repay Morris for the alleged loans. Hunter’s career was predicated on influence peddling the “Biden brand” to foreign businessmen, according to Biden family associate Devon Archer. In turn, the Biden family members made millions, but Hunter appeared to spend all his money on illicit activities instead of paying his taxes, a Justice Department tax indictment says.

Along with legal troubles, Hunter is a material witness in the House impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden. Hunter’s legal defense against both the Justice Department and congressional probes could cost more than $100,000 per month, legal experts told Breitbart News.

House investigators launched the probe into the Biden family in November 2022. They revealed Joe Biden received money from James Biden and Hunter Biden. They also showed that nine additional Biden family members received payments from the family’s foreign business ventures, including two of Joe Biden’s grandchildren.

Hunter Biden to Sit for Closed-Door Deposition, Along with 5 Associates

Hunter Biden will sit for a closed-door interview on February 28, along with five Biden family associates at various dates, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) and Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) announced Thursday.

The announcement came as a surprise to some Republicans. Last week, the chairmen went through procedural hurdles to prepare for a House vote to hold Hunter in contempt of Congress for failing to sit for the deposition.

Hunter proposed last week to sit for the deposition if Congress reissued a subpoena, arguing the prior subpoenas “are legally invalid” because the impeachment inquiry “did not yet exist when the subpoenas were issued.”

The Republican chairmen initially accepted the offer but warned the House would move forward with contempt proceedings for this week.

The chairmen deemed Hunter’s offer to be another delay tactic. Hunter’s offer also appeared to be a public relations ploy to provide Attorney General Merrick Garland with a reason not to prosecute him upon a successful contempt vote.

After wrangling with Hunter’s lawyers, Comer and Jordan changed their strategy. They did not schedule a vote to hold Hunter in concept of Congress and agreed to a deposition.

“Hunter Biden will appear before our committees for a deposition on February 28, 2024,” the chairmen said in a statement obtained by Breitbart News. “His deposition will come after several interviews with Biden family members and associates.”

Associates and the dates they are to speak with the impeachment inquiry are:

  • Week of January 22: Mervyn Yan — former top CEFC China Energy Co. official
  • Week of January 22: Rob Walker — acting “surrogate” for Hunter around the world
  • Week of January 29: “Moneyman” Eric Schwerin — family’s top financial lieutenant
  • Week of January 29: Joey Langston — close associate
  • Week of February 5: Tony Bobulinski — former associate who confirmed the infamous message about a stake of “10 held by H for the big guy,” as referring to Joe Biden
