Drug crisis pushes up mortality rate for Americans in their prime
By Shelley Connor
10 June 2017
A recent analysis of Centers for Disease Control (CDC) records by the Washington Post points to a growing mortality rate for 25- to 45-year-olds across nationalities and ethnicities.
BLOG: HOW MANY ILLEGALS AND FOREIGN BORN ARE EMPLOYED IN YOUR COMMUNITY?

"For the first time, mortality rates are increasing without respect to geographic or racial boundaries, a harsh reflection of the widespread economic decline of America’s workers."

BLOG: YOUNG DEATH! THE PRODUCT OF 8 YEARS OF OBAMA'S SABOTAGE OF AMERICAN'S BORDERS WITH NARCOMEX!
According to the Post ’s analysis, alcohol-related deaths increased among white, black, and Hispanic Americans. Homicide, the leading cause of death for young African-Americans, has risen steadily since 2010. However, among all these factors, the juggernaut of the opioid epidemic appears to be driving most of the increasing mortality rates among 25- to 44-year-olds.
Well in advance of Barack Obama’s 2016 pronouncement that “things have never been better” for America, opioid-related deaths were skyrocketing. According to the CDC, the number of opioid overdoses has quadrupled since 1999. The rate of deaths from drug overdoses has steadily increased, jumping from 14.1 percent in the second quarter of 2014 to 15.2 percent in 2015. By the CDC’s most recent estimates, there was a 19 percent increase between 2015 and 2016. The agency estimates more than 59,000 people died from drug overdoses in 2016. This is greater than the number of American casualties for the duration of the Vietnam War.
From 2012 to 2013, Jefferson County, Alabama’s most populous region, saw heroin overdoses increase by over 200 percent. Heroin-related deaths have since decreased in Jefferson County, but overdoses have increased, with Fentanyl—a synthetic opioid that is estimated to be 50 times more powerful than morphine—now claiming twice the victims that heroin does.
In the neighboring state of Georgia, a spate of overdoses claimed four lives within 48 hours this past week. The drug in question was sold to users as the pain-pill Percocet. The yellow pills they purchased, however, were more likely to have contained Fentanyl. Both Fentanyl and carfentinil—which is used to tranquilize elephants—have played an increasing role in overdoses and deaths, with dealers either cutting other opioids with these more powerful synthetics, or substituting them altogether.
In Ohio, fatal overdoses have quadrupled since 2010. Cuyahoga County coroner Thomas Stilton, whose jurisdiction includes the city of Cleveland, testified to the Senate last month that deaths among African-Americans in his area have doubled within the past year because of Fentanyl. In Dayton, the number of confirmed overdose deaths within the first 33 days of 2017 amounted to more than half the yearly totals from the previous two years.
Individually, all of these individual areas of crisis confirm the Washington Post ’s analysis; Americans in the prime of their lives are being cut down by economic distress and despair. These symptoms of social breakdown have marched steadily across the map, from depressed rural outposts in the Southwest and Appalachia, to the Rust Belt, to metropolitan areas and into previously comfortable suburbs. They defy boundaries of race and ethnicity, with death rates beginning to flatten out between black, white and Hispanic workers and youth.
This analysis comes on the heels of a report released by economists Anne Case and Angus Deaton in March, which revealed a rise in so-called “deaths of despair” among middle-aged white Americans. The pair’s analysis, which they reported to the Brookings Institute, revealed that deaths due to alcoholism, overdose and suicide increased by half a percentage annually between 1999 and 2013, a trend they characterized as “extraordinary and unanticipated.”
Life expectancy rose consistently throughout the second half of the 20th century, due to the struggle of workers for safer working conditions, retirement pensions and health care. In addition, American capitalism, at its zenith, could afford to provide a high standard of sanitation throughout the country. Public health initiatives for safe drinking water, advanced sewage systems, and vaccination programs seemed to put an end to many of the diseases that had claimed so many lives in years past.
The Post points to an “inflection point” around the year 2010, as working class Americans reeled from the effects of the Great Recession. Yet even prior to the Great Recession, mortality data for some portions of the 25- 45-year-old cohort signaled grave distress. The CDC noted that the suicide rate, which had fallen steadily between 1986 and 1999, began rising gradually in 2000. Between 1999 and 2015, an estimated 600,000 people died of suicide in the United States. This is comparable to the 500,000 people who have died in Iraq since the US invasion in 2003.
There are other factors that figure into these astonishing and sobering numbers. As the WSWS has reported, the US maternal mortality rate—which predominantly affects women in the Washington Post ’s cohort—increased by 27 percent between 2004 and 2014.
The United States leads the industrialized nations in health care inequality, which accounts significantly for this increase in mortality rates. This is borne out by the Pos t’s analysis, although their analysts attribute it to education level—people with a four-year degree die at a lower rate than do their peers with a high school diploma or less.
Other studies, however, point out that the largest disparities are not accounted for by education level, but by income; the wealthy live, on average, 15 years longer than their working class peers. Workers have seen their life expectancy grow shorter and shorter in the face of deindustrialization, attacks on their wages and increased health care costs.

Josh Sharfstein, director of the Bloomberg American Health Initiative at Johns Hopkins, stated that the rising mortality rates reflect “an out-of-control epidemic” and “an absolute call to public health.” However, as Sharfstein pointed out to the Post, there is limited access to effective treatments in many places in the United States.
This situation can only worsen under current conditions. The American Health Care Act, passed by the US House in May, calls for cuts that would gut Medicaid. Donald Trump’s budget proposals take that gutting as a mere jumping-off point, calling for $1.4 trillion in cuts to Medicaid in addition to severe cuts to other social programs.
In the meantime, pharmaceutical companies are allowed or even encouraged to raise the price of life-saving medicines. Naloxone, a narcotic antagonist that has saved countless lives, has increased in the midst of the opioid epidemic. Kaleo, the company that markets naloxone injection Evzio, increased the price of their injector by 1000 percent last year. Even the generic naloxone injection costs double what it cost prior to the nationwide rash of overdose deaths.
The fact that Kaleo and other companies can profit from the same realities that have caused American mortality rates to soar gives lie to the common myth that the stock market is an accurate gauge of Americans’ financial health. It also shows the free-market ideology peddled by bourgeois politicians for the insidious fiction that it is.
As American capitalism plunges towards its nadir, workers cannot afford to put their trust in either the two big business parties. The analysis of the Washington Post, as well as that of Case and Deaton, highlight the fact that class, more than race or gender, determines life expectancy and access to health care.
SHOULD WE START TAKING CARE OF OUR OWN FIRST AND MAKE MEXICO TAKE CARE OF THEIR OWN IN THEIR OWN BORDERS???

$22 billion is spent on (AFDC) welfare to illegal aliens each year.

$2.2 Billion dollars a year is spent on food assistance programs such as (SNAP) food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches for illegal aliens.

$3 Million Dollars a DAY is spent to incarcerate illegal aliens.
30% percent of all Federal Prison inmates are illegal aliens.Does not include local jails and State Prisons.

2012 illegal aliens sent home $62 BILLION in remittances back to their countries of origin. This is why Mexico is getting involved in our politics.

$200 Billion Dollars a year in suppressed American wages are caused by the illegal aliens.

The Mexican-occupied State of California hands illegals $30 billion per year in social services. US surpasses most of the world in health care inequality
By Kate Randall
9 June 2017
Being poor in America is a clear predictor that the health care you receive will be far inferior to that of your wealthy counterparts. This reality, documented in a new study published in Health Affairs, will come as no surprise to workers and the poor who struggle daily to gain access to health care and pay for it.

BLOG: MEXICANS CAN WALK INTO ANY HOSPITAL OR CLINIC AND GET IMMEDIATE "FREE" MEDICAL, WHICH IN CA ALONE HAS BANKRUPTED 82 HOSPITALS!
At the other end of the income spectrum, the superior health care received by the super-rich directly correlates to their ability to pay out-of-pocket for the best care that money can buy.
The new study, “The United States Leads Other Nations in Differences by Income in Perceptions of Health and Health Care,” examines self-assessments of personal health and health care among income groups in the period of 2011-13 across 32 middle- and high-income countries.
The study period does not take into account the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), in particular its expansion of Medicaid, the insurance program for the poor. However, contrary to the claims of the Democratic Party, Obamacare has not led to an increase in the quality of health care for most Americas, and in many cases has reduced quality and increased costs. The Trump administration is now escalating the attack on health care, with plans to cut $1.4 trillion over 10 years from Medicaid.
The US has among the largest income-related inequities in health care among rich and middle-income countries studied. Over half of those polled felt that income-based health care inequalities were unfair; those among this group were also significantly more likely than others to support major health system reform.
The study charted disparities in health care and attitudes between the top and bottom tertiles (thirds) of respondents by income. The first measure was on self-perception of health. The results showed that 38.2 percent of the bottom income tertile reported their health as “fair” or “poor,” compared to 21.4 percent in the middle tertile and 12.3 percent in the top tertile.
This means that there was a 25.9 percentage point difference in self-perceived health quality between those in the top and bottom income groups. The study’s authors consider anything above 10 percent as a large disparity. Only Portugal (26.7 percent) and Chile (33 percent) showed wider disparities between the rich and poor in self-perceived health.
Although the researchers did not document the various health conditions afflicting the poor in America, rates of diabetes, obesity, asthma, heart disease, cancer, substance abuse, domestic violence, and myriad other afflictions occur at higher rates in the low-income population.
Almost a quarter of the lower-income tertile in the US reported not getting the medical treatment they needed due to costs, about 16.5 percentage points higher than the top tertile. Only in the Philippines, at 20.1 percent, was there a higher disparity between rich and poor receiving care due to cost.
Asked the question: “In your opinion, how many people are there in the United States who do not have access to the health care they need?” 68 percent of Americans answered “many.” Asked: “Is it fair or unfair that people with higher incomes can afford better health care than people with lower incomes?” 54 percent responded “somewhat unfair” or “very unfair.”
The lack of access to quality health care is contributing to declining health and life expectancy for millions of Americans, which is documented in the following chilling statistics:

BLOG: MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS

OPERATE IN ALL MAJOR CITIES AND

ACROSS THE MIDDLE WEST.

* Deaths from drug overdoses in the US jumped by the largest margin ever in 2016, according to figures compiled by the New York Times. An estimated 59,000 people died from drug overdoses, a 19 percent increase over 2015.

* Overall life expectancy in the US fell between 2014 and 2015 for the first time since 1993, the Lancet reports. Wealthy Americans can now expect to live up to 15 years longer than their poorest counterparts.

* Research by Princeton University economists shows that the sharp rise in the mortality rate for white, middle-aged working class Americans is being driven by “deaths of despair”—from drug overdoses, complications from alcohol abuse, and suicide.

* A study by the American Medical Association found a staggering 20.1-year gap between the lowest and highest life expectancy among all US counties.

* The maternal death rate in the US rose by 27 percent between 2004 and 2014, according to the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Reflecting the ongoing crisis of health care access, over a thousand people braved rain, fierce winds and cold temperatures last month to line up for the Remote Area Medical Clinic in Smyth County, Virginia to receive free treatment. People came from as far away as New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and New Hampshire to receive medical and dental care they would otherwise be forced to go without.
On the other pole, in a growing number of cities across the US, a new crop of “concierge” medical practices now caters to the super-rich. The wealthy can pay as much as $40,000 to $80,000 per family annually to have immediate access without wait times to their primary care physician, the best specialists, the best hospital suites—whether in their hometowns or across the country.
The health care crisis is set to dramatically worsen. The centerpiece of the Republicans’ American Health Care Act, passed in the US House last month, is the gutting of Medicaid. Trump’s budget proposal incorporates the AHCA’s cuts to Medicaid and calls for $1.4 trillion in cuts to the health program for the poor, along with other massive cuts to social programs.
Like Obamacare, the Republican plan takes as its point of departure a health care system based on the subordination of the health needs of the vast majority of the population to the profit requirements of the health care industry and Wall Street.
A socialist solution to the health care crisis, and the vast social inequities that underlie it, must take as its point of departure the needs of working people and society as a whole, not the financial interests of the giant insurance companies and the banks, as part of a reorganization of the economy along socialist lines.

Barrio 18: Meet the terrifying gang with 50,000 foot-soldiers across the US and so unashamedly violent it rivals MS-13

  • US has vowed to crack down on ultra-violent transnational gang MS-13

  • But MS-13's arch-rival gang Barrio 18 has a sickening reputation

  • Founded in Los Angeles and spread throughout Mexico and Central America
  • Believed to have 30,000 to 50,000 members across 20 US states

  • Allied with the Mexican Mafia gang but sworn rivals to MS-13
MS-13 isn't the only gang sowing violence and terror from Central America to the US: meet Barrio 18.
Arch-rivals to MS-13, Barrio 18 has an estimated 30,000 to 50,000 members across 20 US states and is linked to drugs, murder, kidnappings and other violent crime from Central America to Canada.
'With thousands of members across hundreds of kilometers, and interests in a number of different illicit activities, Barrio 18 is one of the more significant emerging criminal threats in the region,' write analysts for the think-tank InSight Crime.
Last week, US Attorney General Jeff Sessions visited his counterpart in El Salvador to discuss ways to crack down on transnational gangs - MS-13 and Barrio 18 chief among them.
But if history is any guide, eradicating Barrio 18 will be easier said than done.

Also known as 18th Street, the gang has its roots in Los Angeles of the 1960s, where it was originally composed of Mexican immigrants.

WHAT IS BARRIO 18?

The gang was founded in Los Angeles decades ago, and has spread across the US and Central America.
Members: Estimated 30,000 to 50,000 in the US
Colors: Blue and black
Allied with: Mexican Mafia
Enemies of: MS-13
Activities: Drug dealing, burglary, assault, extortion, prostitution, human trafficking, homicide
Over the decades, though, Barrio 18 threw open its recruitment to members from Central America as well, often targeting the elementary and middle-school children of immigrants.
As the gang's ranks grew, it became the target of FBI and police crackdowns, sending many of its veteran members to prison.
But time behind bars just gave Barrio 18's shot-callers a fertile new recruiting ground, and it quickly swelled its ranks in federal prisons.
Stepped up deportations also had an unintended effect, spreading the gang's reach to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras as hardened members were shipped back to their native countries, where they have battled brutally with MS-13.

The gang is nevertheless notorious for enforcing strict rules and absolute obedience among its ranks, and failure to show proper respect can bring severe punishment, including execution.
Barrio 18 cliques have been linked to the international drug trade, and the gang is closely allied with the Mexican Mafia, another Hispanic organized crime ring with its origins in US prisons.
Their colors, blue and black, even pay tribute to the Mexican Mafia: blue for the allied gang, and black for Barrio 18's original color.

Barrio 18 members are the sworn enemies of MS-13, another gang with its origins in California that has since spread in Central American countries with weakened governments.
'These two gangs have turned the Central American northern triangle into the area with the highest homicide rate in the world,' the US Justice Department wrote in a 2013 report.
Like MS-13, the decentralized structure of Barrio 18 has made it incredibly resistant to decades of efforts to eradicate it.
'They're worse than a cancer,' gang expert Gabriel Kovnator told the Los Angeles Times all the way back in 1996.
'A cancer you can kill. These guys keep growing.'

Don't graffiti in red
Don't talk about gang business around outsiders
Ask permission before tattooing your face

No women in the gang
No rape
No snitching
