Sen. Blackburn: Biden Administration Is 'Making Every State a Border State'
(CNSNews.com) - The Biden administration is "making every state a border state -- every town a border town," Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) warned on Thursday night.
She's one of three Republican lawmakers from Tennessee who is demanding answers on the stealthy movement of unaccompanied minors from the border to Tennessee and other states:
"What they are doing is shifting the burden to the states," Blackburn told Fox News's Sean Hannity:
And once they do that, they're making every state a border state -- every town a border town. But this is the first link in a chain of bad immigration policies. But they're shoving this cost for education, child services, housing, all of the healthcare onto the states. Now, as you have these communities, the illegal migrants coming into cities, what are blue city mayors going to do? They're going to do sanctuary cities.
But what the Biden administration is doing is specifically this: They have now apprehended 500,000 people at the border from 160 countries. They're putting them on planes and flying them to states without any knowledge of the governors. I've just talked to our governor tonight [Republican Bill Lee]. And the governors don't know it. The local officials don't know it.
And Sean, that is how they are shifting this burden and moving them across the country. You know, they should be putting them on a plane and sending them back home to their families.
In a May 20 letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Tennessee Reps. Bill Hagerty, Chuck Fleishmann, and Sen. Blackburn expressed concern about the “management of unaccompanied alien children in federal custody and where they’re being housed."
"We are particularly concerned about recent reports regarding the use of Chattanooga, Tennessee, as a central location for resettling UACs in the United States," they wrote. The lawmakers point to media reports saying at least four planeloads of UACs have landed in Chattanooga, where the minors were loaded onto buses and transported “to multiple cities across the southeastern United States for apparent resettlement, with zero transparency regarding what was happening."
Blackburn said Gov. Lee had declined a request from the Biden administration to accept some of the migrant children.
"And this is a 10th Amendment violation, because they're doing it anyway. They're sending them into these communities with no one's knowledge.
"So, if any of your viewers see this happening in their community, if see these planes and buses coming into the community, call their local Fox affiliate. They will come out and cover this and make certain that people know about it.
“Because this will force the state -- once these individuals show up for education, healthcare, housing, children's services -- the state, the taxpayer is paying the bill for every bit of this," Blackburn said.
"And one of the things that is so egregious -- you have the cartels. Nobody crosses the border unless they're going through a cartel. But then what is the U.S. Federal government doing? They're finishing the job for the cartel. Because once someone is caught, they (feds) take them, the taxpayer is paying for it, and we find out they are flying them and busing them to a neighborhood near you."
House Republicans Demand Answers on Border Crisis
Congressional Republicans are pushing the Biden administration for answers on the border crisis as illegal crossings surge under President Joe Biden's leadership.
Five Republican lawmakers from the Committee on Education and Labor sent a letter Thursday to the secretaries of the Health and Human Services and Homeland Security departments raising concerns over how the Biden administration's policies are "fueling a child safety crisis." The lawmakers pointed to the potential for minors to become entangled in child trafficking.
"As migrants see more opportunities to enter the country, we are concerned about the harm that may befall the children and resurgence of child trafficking," the lawmakers wrote. "With record numbers of children crossing the border, we believe it is imperative to understand what the federal government is doing to protect children crossing the border. The administration must treat this crisis as the emergency that it is and actively prevent predators from exploiting weaknesses in the enforcement of our laws."
The letter requests answers to several questions concerning how the federal departments are handling the unaccompanied minors to prevent them from falling into the hands of human traffickers. It also requests details on how the agencies are coordinating to deal with the crisis. The letter is led by Rep. Virginia Foxx (R., N.C.), the ranking member of the House Committee on Education and Labor.
Early in 2021, a massive influx of children crossing the border left administration officials scrambling to arrange for detainment facilities for the unaccompanied children. March saw the largest number of unaccompanied children stopped at the border in U.S. history, with close to 19,000 being stopped by authorities. In April, the number of children detained at the border dropped but remained near a 20-year high as migrant numbers remained high overall.
President Bush is right to blame the criminal elements
Former President George W. Bush is on a book tour. I have not read the book but do plan to check it out. Nevertheless, President Bush made a lot of sense when he spoke about the border crisis and the people profiting from it. This is what he said:
"I’m sure they’re telling them falsehoods -- ‘follow me, I’ll get you in’ -- and these poor people have no way of checking that out and are finding themselves stuck at the border," Bush said.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced last week it encountered more than 178,000 migrants in April, a jump of over 900% compared to April 2020. CBP encountered 178,622 migrants in April trying to enter the U.S., a 3% increase over the 172,000 encountered the previous month, which had been the highest number in 20 years.
"What you’re seeing is a border that reflects a broken system, and there needs to be changes," he continued. "There need to be changes in work visas, so people don’t have to sneak in to do work that needs to be done in America; there need to be changes in the asylum system to be able to adjudicate cases quickly."
He added: "And what people have got to understand is that a broken system makes it harder to enforce the border. A reformed system will make it easier to enforce the border, and so that is what has to happen."
We can agree or disagree with some of what he said. However, I am happy that President Bush is talking about the people bringing them to the border and making money out of it.
Biden's border policy has two major flaws:
First, you don't open the border during a pandemic. That's just common sense!
Second, you don't open the border without knowing that criminal elements would create the "transportation" system to bring illegals up north. Another aspect is that we don't really know what their families in the U.S. are going to end up paying. My guess is that a lot of people being brought to the border are making a "down payment" and the balance is due on the U.S. side of the border. In other words, there are going to be people in our cities collecting that balance and it won't be by phone or letters. They will knock the door and expect to be paid.
So thank you President Bush for calling out the smugglers and exposing the real flaw of Biden's border policy.

Exclusive: Blackburn Demands Answers on Biden’s Flying Border Crossers into Tennessee in Middle of the Night
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN) are demanding answers in a video message to President Joe Biden, exclusively shared with Breitbart News, about the administration flying border crossers into the state of Tennessee before busing them to various United States cities.
This week, WRCB-TV 3 News published footage showing groups of roughly 30 to 50 Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) being flown into Chattanooga, Tennessee, and then boarding buses to be taken to other cities. Most of the fly-ins were done late into the night or early in the morning.
In a video message to Biden, Blackburn and Fleischmann said they are sending a letter to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to understand why the administration is flying border crossers into the U.S. in the middle of the night.
“[Rep. Fleischmann] and I are working to get to the bottom of this planes flying into Chattanooga under the veil of darkness and migrant children being moved from planes, put on buses, and then transported to other locations,” Blackburn said.
“When we think of the fact that we have been left in the dark as the elected public officials in our great republic,” Fleischmann said. “The administration has not been forthright in terms of telling us what is going on. It’s a problem that’s happening in Tennessee … it’s a problem all across the United States.”
Blackburn said Biden ought to explain how his administration is spending American taxpayer money to facilitate illegal immigration into the U.S.
“President Biden should be willing to come forward and let people know what it is that is happening and how taxpayer dollars are being used to move those that have illegally entered the country,” Blackburn said.
The Biden administration’s Tennessee operation is only one of many being facilitated, with the help of Catholic Charities, the Shapiro Foundation, and funding from the TripAdvisor corporation.
One particular operation near the southern border takes border crossers on buses to airports in Yuma, Arizona, and San Diego, California. The border crossers board commercial flights that take them to various U.S. cities.
Breitbart News exclusively reported this week that border crossers from Cuba and Venezuela are taking advantage of the operation and getting on commercial flights to travel into the U.S. interior.
From February 19 to April 22, as Breitbart News reported last month, the Biden administration had flown about 7,200 border crossers into the U.S. interior on domestic commercial flights. Border crossers are allowed to bypass photo identification requirements, boarding flights without a photo ID, and do not have to prove they are negative for the Chinese coronavirus.

Migrant Apprehensions on Rise in Texas’ Most-Remote Sector
Border Patrol agents in the Big Bend Sector are experiencing a dramatic increase in drug and human smuggling following the migrant surge that began in January. The sector is the most remote of the five Texas-based Border Patrol sectors.
Big Bend Sector Chief Patrol Agent Sean McGoffin tweeted a series of photos this week showing smuggling activity in the mountainous desert region near Presidio, Texas.
On May 17, Presidio Station agents teamed up with ICE Homeland Security Investigations and the Presidio Police Department to interdict multiple human smuggling stash houses and a vehicular smuggling attempt.
Photos tweeted on May 17 shot the rugged terrain and hot, dry condition where migrants march through the Chihuahua Desert.
So far this fiscal year, which began on October 1, 2020, Big Bend Sector agents apprehended 19,980 migrants who illegally crossed the border from Mexico. This is up from 4,070 the previous year — a 391 percent increase.
The majority of those apprehended are single adults (18,336). However, a concerning statistic is the 278 percent increase in the number of single minors. This jumped from 276 in FY20 to 601 this year to date.
The apprehensions sometimes carry far inland from the border as smugglers attempt to move migrants around interior immigration checkpoints. McGoffin tweeted photos last week of large groups of migrants apprehended near Van Horn, Texas.
Drug seizures by Border Patrol agents in this sector mainly revolve around marijuana. Human smugglers frequently make migrants carry backpacks filled with marijuana as they march through the desert, officials previously told Breitbart Texas.
So far this fiscal year, Big Bend Sector agents seized 15,403 pounds of marijuana. This compares to 24,399 for all of Fiscal Year 2020, CBP enforcement statistics reports indicate.
