California law gives the attorney general broad authority over law enforcement matters. (CNSNews.com) - Vice President Kamala Harris sent out a tweet on Monday—which was “World Press Freedom Day”—warning that freedom of the press is “critical to democracy.”

“A free press is critical to democracy,” Harris said in her tweet.

“On this #WorldPressFreedomDay, we recognize the courage of journalists around the world,” she said.

“And we recommit ourselves to protecting and promoting a free and independent press everywhere,” Harris said.

The United Nations General Assembly created World Press Freedom day in 1993.

“World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993, following the recommendation of UNESCO's General Conference,” says the UN website.

“May 3 acts as a reminder to governments of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom,” says the UN website. “It is also a day of reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom and professional ethics. It is an opportunity to: celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom; assess the state of press freedom throughout the world; defend the media from attacks on their independence; and pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty.”

She's making a list of enemies and she's checking it twice, or at least that's what a new report from The Atlantic says Vice President Kamala Harris is doing in order to track her nemeses in the fourth estate.

Like the West Wing's Regina George, "Harris herself tracks political players and reporters whom she thinks don't fully understand her or appreciate her life experience," the Atlantic explains of the VP's burn book. "The Vice President and her team tend to dismiss reporters" and "trying to get her to take a few questions after events is treated as an act of impish aggression," the profile in cowardice continues. 

How dare the media supposedly responsible for holding elected leaders accountable ask the Vice President of the United States about the radical proposals being advanced on her watch. They just don't know what it's like to be the Vice President, and therefore there's no need to tolerate silly questions about the trillions of dollars being burned by the administration in the name of infrastructure, COVID relief, and jobs, apparently.

Proving again that HBO's 'VEEP' is still the most accurate depiction of life inside the beltway, the explanation of how a writer or reporter gets on Harris' bad side sounds awfully similar to how fictional Vice President Selina Meyer has staff monitor unflattering nicknames used by detractors online.

"She often mentions an episode in which a Washington Post reporter mistook the cheer of the historic Black sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha for 'screeches,'" the Atlantic was told. Harris "particularly doesn't like the word cautious, and aides look out for synonyms too. Careful, guarded, and hesitant don't go over well." 

Perhaps Harris prefers being described, as we at Townhall have done, for her dangerous immigration policy, reckless spending, and confidence in debunked philosophies. 

Also like Selina Meyer, Kamala Harris "continues to retreat behind talking points and platitudes in public, and declines many interview requests and opportunities to speak for herself," including the Atlantic's piece that doesn't hold back as many mainstream outlets normally would for the ordained Democrat second in command at the White House. 

The report also notes that Harris at times "comes off so uninteresting that television producers have started to wonder whether spending thousands of dollars to send people on trips with her is worthwhile, given how little usable material they get out of it."

Keeping track of media enemies who the VP believes don't appreciate her is no doubt part of her drape-measuring for a future run at the Oval Office after getting smoked by her fellow Democrats in the 2020 Democratic primary. 

The Atlantic may land itself a spot in Harris' burn book with their report, in which they acknowledge her presidential campaign "fell apart," and say "her political existence in limbo while everyone waits to see how long [Biden] wants to remain in charge."

And while Harris' lack of TV airtime very well may be due to White House aides' attempts to stifle talk of a puppet presidency—where Biden stumbles through prompter remarks while Harris pulls the actual levers of government—or, as the Atlantic points out, it could be that she's just not that interesting. Democrat voters in 2020 seemed to agree with the latter.

Vice President Kamala Harris personally keeps a list of reporters who have offended her, according to a report in the Atlantic.

“Harris herself tracks political players and reporters whom she thinks don’t fully understand her or appreciate her life experience,” the Atlantic’s Edward-Issac Dovere reported in a Tuesday article.
The report noted Harris does not like the words “cautious,” “careful,” “guarded,” and “hesitant” but turns down opportunities to answer questions from reporters or participate in interviews. Harris was not pleased after a Washington Post reporter posted on social media during a visit to Howard University that there were “screeches” of welcome from her sorority sisters.

Harris’ struggle to connect with voters was apparent during her failed 2020 presidential campaign, despite attempts to feature more personal moments such as cooking videos and dance moves.

Harris’ opponents also point out she typically responds to tough questions with a laugh.

“The only thing almost as bad [as Joe Biden] is Kamala with the laugh,” Trump said at an October rally during the 2020 campaign.

“Haha, that’s so funny. Hahaha,” Trump said, imitating her laughs in an interview with 60 Minutes.

“Is there something wrong with her?” he added. “She kept laughing. At very serious questions.”

Republicans also attacked Harris for laughing when reporters asked her if she would travel to the border to highlight the migrant crisis.

“While VP Harris laughs off a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions, Republicans are focused on securing the border and responding to the needs of our Border Patrol agents on the front lines,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy posted on social media.

Our Democrat Rulers Can't Be Serious

Tennis great John McEnroe was well known for his mercurial personality and unrestrained outbursts when he felt that a close call wrongly hadn't gone his way.  His use of the phrase "you cannot be serious" has become sports lore.

The current-day Democratic Party has pioneered new ground in eliciting McEnroe-like responses.  They cannot be serious.  That phrase can be taken two ways, and both interpretations would be correct.  It could be taken to mean that Democratic governing policies are not serious, responsible approaches to meet the complex and conflicting demands of our multifaceted economy, the challenges of an ever-shifting international landscape, or the real-world requirement to balance the demand for energy and natural resources with the necessity to protect and preserve the environment.

It could also be taken to mean that the Democrats are not serious in their publicly stated beliefs regarding their commitment to their own policies: Democratic stances on everything, from their anti-capitalistic economic positions to over-the-top social wokeness to anti–law enforcement actions to capitulating to international adversaries like Communist China and Iran, are so outrageously harmful to American interests that even the Democrats know they're wrong.  They don't seriously believe any of it —  they can't. They're just promoting these positions in a blatantly transparent attempt to curry favor with needed voting blocs in future elections.  It's a nod-nod, wink-wink of the most insidious and deceitful kind, and the Dems are banking on their target blocs not being hip to the ruse.  One can clearly, and no doubt accurately, imagine the Maxine Waterses, Kamala Harrises, and Chuck Schumers of the world sitting in their opulent surroundings, enjoying Dom Périgon jelly doughnuts while sipping 100-year-old brandy, saying to each other, "Well, they bought it again," with a dismissive, condescending smirk.

There are various examples of this from the current Democrat script. Many — most, actually — of their public statements and talking points fall into the "not serious" category, both from the not-seriously-thought-out policy standpoint and the so-outrageous-even-they-don't-believe-it standpoint.

Let's look at a few:

Tlaib's Wish to Eliminate the Police

Michigan representative Rashida Tlaib says she wants to do away with policing in the United States.  Following the April encounter between Daunte Wright and police that ended in Wright's shooting, Tlaib said, "I am done with those who condone government-funded murder.  No more policing, incarceration, and militarization.  It can't be reformed."

Tlaib, like all Democrats who call for defunding the police or for more restrictive gun laws and the like, lives in a low-crime, affluent area and enjoys the personal safety benefits of armed security.  Unsurprisingly, she is a total hypocrite.  Her statements are not serious on any level, not as a matter of public policy and not as they pertain to her.  Her utterance is meant as a self-serving, publicity-grabbing instrument, to solidify her voting base and make her required payments to the sympathetic liberal media.

Ed Markey and the Green New Deal

Ed Markey — the 45-year D.C. lifer — could be considered the quintessential liberal NE Democrat politician.  He transparently espouses every clichéd liberal Democratic policy position that comes down the pike.  He never puts forth any new, thoughtful, genuinely helpful initiatives of his own.  (Remember the groundbreaking "Markey Act"?  Of course not — it doesn't exist.)  His entire political existence is one of self-perpetuation, to live off the public dole.  He brazenly resides full-time in a luxurious home in suburban Maryland, maintaining a barely plausible legal mailing address in Massachusetts, just to be able to run for his guaranteed re-election.

As a dynamic, influential, important politician, Markey is meaningless. Empty. Irrelevant. He collects his government dough, lives worry-free, and has the dictionary definition of a "cushy life."

Yet apparently, even empty vessels like Markey occasionally feel the need to attach themselves to something that might convey some visibility and substance onto their otherwise vacant countenances.  Hence, Markey is all of a sudden a major proponent of the risible Green New Deal.  His own connection to the GND fandango would be utterly humiliating to him if he had the self-awareness to see it.  The GND is a fantastical "what-if/if only" environmental pipe dream, conceived of by too-young, completely immature and uneducated political neophytes, without the slightest clue of either economic realities or scientific facts.  That some older politicians like Markey — bereft of any other substantive causes that can be credited to them in spite of seemingly endless decades in office — glom onto this movement is astonishingly unserious in every way imaginable.  You know that Markey doesn't believe this hooey, not for a nanosecond.  He's just trying to appear relevant.

Granted, with her penchant for hyena-like uncontrolled cackling outbursts at socially inopportune times and her remarkably inarticulate, unintellectual manner, Madame Vice President is not exactly the picture of a serious anything.  Yet, even by her admittedly low standards, trying to foist blame for this administration's utter failure at the southern border on something so conspicuously unconnected to illegal immigration as so-called "climate change" is the perfect illustration of everything about the "Biden" presidency that is so frighteningly imbecilic.

We knew when we were watching John McEnroe play tennis 40 years ago that we were watching something special, a competitive talent that would live on in our consciousness, long into the future.  But no one knew at the time how prophetic and forward-looking his famous phrase would become.

As in 2016, Democrats advance a corrupt ruling-class candidate. Like the dead man Gary Ernst, Democrats want people to vote for Joe Biden so they can swap him out for Kamala Harris, already a beneficiary of voter fraud and with the exception of Xavier Becerra possibly the worst attorney general in California history.

Voter Fraud Plus Bait-and-Switch Equals Tyranny

The 2020 election battle has left millions of voters in a state of confusion. For a sense of clarity, they might recall a significant race from 2016. 

“Voters in Oceanside, Calif., have chosen a dead man over a woman, re-electing Gary Ernst as city treasurer despite the fact that Ernst died in September,” reported National Public Radio on November 10, 2016. Challenger Nadine Scott charged that Oceanside councilman Jerry Kern urged voters to choose the dead man so he could hand-pick a successor. Kern acknowledged as much a week after the death of Ernst, telling ABC news, “vote for him anyway, because that way we can get somebody that’s qualified there.” That presages a key feature of the 2020 election.

As their candidate for president of the United States, Democrats selected Joe Biden, 77, a 47-year Senate veteran and loser in 1988 and 2008 presidential bids. In 2020, Biden says he’s running for the Senate, doesn’t know his location and claims 200 million Americans have died from Covid. And so on.

Joe may be above ground, but to all but the willfully blind he is completely incapable of carrying out the duties of the presidency, the most difficult job in the world. Democrats selected Biden for the same reason Jerry Kern urged votes for dead man Gary Ernst. They wanted to get somebody else in the office.

That would be Kamala Harris, supposedly qualified as an intersectional “woman of color.” Harris is a favorite of the “composite character” president formerly known as Barry Soetoro, who called her the “best looking attorney general in the country.”  That invites a look at the way Harris became attorney general of California, and its relevance to the current campaign.

Democrat queenmaker Willie Brown also thought Harris, 30 years his junior, was good looking. In a daring act of poontronage, Brown set up Harris in lucrative sinecures and backed her runs for San Francisco district attorney and state attorney general in 2010.

Harris was so lightly regarded that the Sacramento Bee, a veritable Democrat newsletter, backed Republican Steve Cooley. On election night Cooley claimed victory, but pro-Harris SEIU drones harvested enough ballots to give Harris a “lead” of less than one percent, and the race was called in her favor. It was blatant, voter fraud of the same brand Democrats now deploy. They halt crucial vote counts that favors Trump and dredge up ballots for Biden, many delivered by the postal workers union that endorsed  Biden, who helpfully clarified the issue.

In an October 24 video, Biden bragged that he had created, “the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics.” The Democrat front-man got help from California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a crony of Nancy Pelosi. In March, Newsom deployed emergency powers to order ballots sent to every registered voter, which includes at least one million illegals registered to vote through the DMV “motor voter” plan.

On November 2, a judge ruled Newsom’s order “an unconstitutional exercise of legislative power,” too late to stop the illegals from voting. At this writing the massive fraud continues, and evokes other memories of 2016.

“Last time, in 2016, the establishment was not ready for Donald Trump,” writes Roger Kimball at American Greatness. “This time they knew it was not only possible but probable, and they prepared accordingly.” That includes the massive voter fraud openly touted by Biden and the bait-and-switch hailed by Nancy Pelosi, who announced that the bid to deploy the 25th Amendment had nothing to do with Trump. Victor Davis Hanson was already onto it.

Fox News polls were among the worst and on election night, as Kimball noted, Fox refused to call Florida for Trump even after he had won the state. They called Arizona for Biden when it still in play, with lines at the polls. Two days after the election, Fox refused to call Alaska and other states for Trump, even though the president’s win was clear.

Mark Levin, Jesse Waters, Judge Jeannine and Tucker Carlson are on to the Democrats’ scam, but the most astute of all may be Tyrus. As he announced on the Greg Gutfeld show in 2016, the Democrats “got their asses kicked” but “claimed they gained more yards.” In 2020 Trump is again kicking ass but Democrats bring in fake ballots by the truckload.
