On February 19, for example, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ deputies posted a tweet offering support to migrants illegally working in the United States and to migrants who may wish to live in the United States.

Biden administration torched over immigration crisis

The result has been a surge of illegal immigration to the southern border and mass releases of border crossers into the U.S. interior — many without being required to test negative for the Chinese coronavirus. In January, for example, border apprehensions jumped nearly 160 percent and marked the highest level of illegal immigration for the month since January 2006.

‘DHS Wants Everything on the Down-Low’

Excerpt: Both of these videos provide a peek at the administration’s facilitation of mass illegal immigration. And I say “facilitation” rather than “promotion” because I differ from others in that I don’t think there’s a plan here – this crowd doesn’t appear able to plan their way out of a paper sack. Instead, what we’re seeing play out is the modern Left’s rejection of the idea of borders, its belief that the American people, through their constitutional processes, do not have the right to keep out any foreigner who wants to move here.

Biden’s Illegal Immigration Pandemic

No vaccine or TSA photo ID required for illegal immigrants.

President Biden has repeatedly said that there is a COVID-19 pandemic of the unvaccinated. If Biden truly believes what he is saying, then why is his administration allowing so many illegal immigrants to enter and stay in the United States without at least checking for proof of vaccination, as required by U.S. immigration law? The answer is that Biden will say and do anything to placate his leftwing progressive base. He is turning the United States into a sanctuary country for many illegal immigrants.

The Biden administration is not only allowing unvaccinated illegal immigrants to remain in the country. These open border social justice warriors have also exempted many illegal immigrants from the Transportation Security Agency's (TSA) government photo ID rules for commercial airline travel. American citizens and legal residents have to show TSA a government-issued photo ID such as a valid passport to board a commercial aircraft, but illegal immigrants get to skip this anti-terrorist security precaution.

It has been just recently reported that illegal immigrants can even use a 'Warrant for Arrest of Alien' or a 'Warrant of Removal/Deportation' as their form of identification. The only airplanes that illegal immigrants with these IDs should be able to board are the planes taking them back to their home countries.

"We are abandoning every single security norm we learned after 9/11 just to move illegal aliens through the country," said Mark Morgan, the acting commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency under former President Donald Trump. Mr. Morgan had previously served as chief of U.S. Border Patrol and acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement under former President Barack Obama.

That’s not all. The Biden administration stopped using Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” program but had to restore this successful program under court order. In response, the Biden administration is planning to provide taxpayer funded legal assistance to some affected illegal immigrants. This additional lure for more illegal immigrants to come to the United States even has a name - Legal Access at the Border (LAB).

“The plan notably includes migrants placed in the re-implemented 'Remain in Mexico' policy, formally named the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP),” Axios reported. “It will be for migrants attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, those in Border Patrol custody, in the MPP program or who may be enrolled in MPP or otherwise placed in deportation proceedings,” the Axios report added, referencing published documents available on an official government website.

Moreover, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced on January 20th a decision during his remarks to the U.S. Conference of Mayors that will delight Democrat mayors of sanctuary cities. “Unlawful presence in the United States will alone not be a basis for an immigration enforcement action,” Mayorkas said. “And it is not just a matter of the appropriate allocation of limited resources but it is a matter of justice and fairness and equity as well.”

The Biden administration considers “justice and fairness and equity” for illegal immigrants to mean not only refusing to fully enforce the country’s immigration laws but also providing taxpayer funded legal assistance to the lawbreakers.

Since the beginning of the 2022 fiscal year, which runs from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022, there have been 518,360 reported Southwest land border encounters. Single adults constituted 65.48 percent of these encounters with illegal immigrants.

In fiscal year 2021, there were 1,734,686 enforcement encounters – an historically high figure. Single adults constituted 63.75 percent of these encounters.

We have no accurate numbers regarding how many of these illegal immigrants have settled in communities across the country, not to mention how many are infected with the coronavirus.

CBS reported last December that only “a small percentage of the hundreds of thousands of migrants processed by the U.S. [in 2021] have received COVID-19 vaccinations while in federal custody, and half of them are unaccompanied children, according to unpublished government data obtained by CBS News.”

Even if any of the illegal aliens released from detention by the Biden administration had carried with them so-called “documentation” of a vaccination from their country of origin or transit, it would almost certainly have been fake.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reportedly provided at least one shot of the vaccine to more than 44,000 immigrants in its custody, not all of whom were necessarily the recent entrants detained by border agents. “At least 21,970 immigrants detained by ICE have declined to be vaccinated, the statistics show,” according to the CBS report. Were they deported immediately? Almost certainly not.

CBS further reported that “46,480 migrant children have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement.” To put this into perspective, there were 146,925 reported encounters with unaccompanied minors in fiscal year 2021.

In its January 3, 2022 report, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency claimed that “Most people encountered at the border (62 percent) were expelled under the Title 42 authority to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).”

In the same report, however, the agency admitted that there was “high recidivism rates (repeat encounters) among individuals processed under the CDC’s Title 42 public health authorities.”

Even if the agency’s 62 percent expulsion number is accurate, that would still leave nearly 660,000 illegal immigrants encountered during the 2021 fiscal year presumably remaining in the country. And nearly 200,000 illegal immigrants encountered during the 2022 fiscal year so far would also presumably still be in the country.

Moreover, we don’t really know how many of the 62 percent of people encountered at the border who were reportedly expelled from the United States for emergency health reasons managed to slip back into the country. They could well have been among those additional illegal immigrants who entered through the Biden administration’s open border and got away undetected, with no way to trace their whereabouts or vaccination status. The Hill reported in late October 2021 that the number of these individuals, referred to as “got aways,” were averaging about 1000 per day.

While there was some testing for the coronavirus before detained illegal immigrants were transferred to ICE or Health and Human Services facilities, it is unclear how many illegal immigrants overall have been tested. Moreover, without a careful tracking and enforcement system in place, it is highly unlikely that the illegal immigrants who were tested once or twice during detention have continued to be regularly tested after their release, let alone vaccinated.

In short, thanks to President Biden’s open border policies, there is an illegal immigration pandemic that he has let loose in the United States. Many of the illegal immigrants who have been admitted into the country and then released on Biden’s watch are also likely contributing to Biden’s self-declared “pandemic of the unvaccinated.” At the same time, they will be eligible to receive taxpayer funded legal assistance and are able to board planes without standard government-provided photo IDs, courtesy of the Biden administration.

In one short year, President Biden’s lax open border immigration policies have turned the United States into a huge magnet for illegal immigrants. And they keep coming and coming with no end in sight.

Biden Raises ‘Border Security’: 'There's a Whole Lot of Illegal -- Um, Um, Movement, But--Ah...’

(CNSNews.com) - At a Monday meeting with the nation's governors, President Biden mentioned "border security," a topic he rarely addresses, despite record flows of illegal immigrants into this country, a situation that stems from his administration's lax policies.

Biden today said it's a question of figuring out "why they're leaving in the first place."

"Border security. We're working a lot with neighboring countries," Biden said at the conclusion of his opening remarks to the governors.

A lot to do, there's a lot, I think -- I think one of the fundamental things we gotta do, in addition to some of the changes we'll make, I won't get into today, but -- is that if we figure out why they're leaving in the first place.

It's not like people sit around and say, in Guadalajara -- 'I've got a great idea, let's sell everything we have, give it to a coyote, takes us across the border, leave us in the desert, in a country that doesn't want us, we don't speak the language. Won't that be fun.'

You know, there are gangs we're working on. There's a whole lot of illegal -- um, um, movement, but ah, there's also a way to begin to deal with the reason they're leaving in the first place. And I’d love to talk with you personally about that, in a little bit, if I may.

Here Biden said he'd stop speaking and take questions from the governors. His handlers ushered the press out of the room first.

Recently revealed videotape, played on cable channels, shows planeloads of illegal immigrants, many of them adult men, being flown to destinations around the country.

Biden and his fellow Democrats have refused to address border security -- or even visit the border, in Biden's case -- and a recent poll shows ‘security issues,’ including the open border, are a major concern of voters.

“I don’t think a lot of Americans can believe that their president is behind this. But, that’s exactly what’s going on,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said, while discussing how the Biden Administration dumping illegal aliens into cities across the country “in the middle of the night.”

“I don’t think a lot of Americans really understand that this is going on,” and they’re shocked when they find out, Paxton told Fox and Friends First on Friday while explaining how the Biden Administration is sneaking illegal aliens into America's cities overnight when they’re less likely to be seen:

“I don’t think a lot of Americans really understand that this is going on. I think they’re shocked, when they realize it’s the federal government that is sneaking these people in, in the middle of the night, whether it’s on a bus in Texas – I can tell you I checked with law enforcement. They tell me they see them get off, in the middle of the night, in our cities, when they unload.

“But, it’s happening all over the country. And, I don’t think a lot of Americans can believe that their president is behind this. But, that’s exactly what’s going on.”

“More people are going to die” because of the Biden Administration’s utter disinterest in the threat of criminal illegal aliens coming into America, Paxton warned:

“So, the reality is: we’re going to get more crime, we’re going to get more drugs, we’re going to get more COVID – more people are going to die – because this administration doesn’t just not care about immigration, they’re encouraging it.”

President Joe Biden’s deputies will bypass the media’s clickbait focus on border-backlogged “kids in cages” by simply flying and bussing more Central American migrants to homes through the United States.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) told Breitbart News that its Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) has:

…authorized programs to pay transport fees for unaccompanied children (including airline tickets), including escort transport (where necessary by airline or ORR policy) in order to facilitate release of children to approved sponsors.

ORR care providers are authorized to use program funds to purchase airline tickets in the event that a sponsor is not able to pay fees associated with commercial airfare, and a child’s physical release would be otherwise delayed.

“This isn’t about a backlog,” said Rosemary Jenks, policy director at NumbersUSA. She continued:

This is about Biden’s policies creating a border surge … They’re getting exactly what we all knew they were going to get which is more people coming across, including more unaccompanied children. So now they’re trying to figure out what to do with them because you know AOC [Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, (D-NY)] and others are so unhappy with their “kids in containers” policy that they’ve got to fly them away from the border so nobody notices them.

“The administration wants open borders — they want anyone from around the world to come here as fast as they possibly can,” she said. But the resulting rush of migrants is forcing officials to hide the unpopular migration as it arrives at the border.

The surge of migrants will not be easy to hide, she added. “Former President Obama knows that because when he was flying the unaccompanied children all over the country, all hell broke loose and governors started complaining, and citizens started complaining. I don’t see how anyone with a memory .. would call that a win.”

On February 23, the Washington Times reported:

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is scrambling to find bigger airplanes and figure out more ground transport capacity for soaring numbers of illegal immigrants, and is even talking with a company that runs “Man Camps” for oil workers in Texas to see whether it will rent bed space for the incoming wave of illegal immigrants.

New Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told ICE that cost is no issue, and to cancel contracts and sign new ones without worry about the price tag, according to the email from ICE Chief of Staff Timothy Perry. Mr. Mayorkas said he is also pondering diverting money from the border wall “to backfill budgets later,” the email said.

“ICE should increase the cadence of its transport and arrange for individuals to complete their processing and ATD’ing at processing centers north of the border,” he wrote. ATD, or Alternatives to Detention, means those migrants will be released into communities with conditions like regular check-ins with officers.

Meanwhile, the pro-migration advocates who slammed Trump because of the 2018 and 2019 congestion at the border stations are giving Biden a political pass. The Washington Post reported February 25:

“The word I would preach here is patience,” said J. Kevin Appleby, a board member at the Hope Border Institute, an immigrant aid organization in El Paso. “Everyone expects automatic results and automatic change. But it’s going to take time to reverse what Trump did.”

Biden’s officials have been broadcasting their desire to refocus the border agencies on helping to extract more migrants from Central America for the U.S. economy.

On February 19, for example, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ deputies posted a tweet offering support to migrants illegally working in the United States and to migrants who may wish to live in the United States.

“For Dreamers who only know this country as home. For essential workers that power our communities. For families who have waited – apart – for far too long. Reforming our immigration system will renew America's promise: as a beacon of hope for a better life.” Secretary Mayorkas

Biden's Open Borders: 'I Do Expect Congress to Hold Him Accountable,' Republican Lawmaker Says THAT IS BECAUSE BOTH PARTIES SUPPORT OPEN BORDERS TO KEEP WAGES DEPRESSED!

(CNSNews.com) - Televised videotape of the Biden administration flying illegal immigrants, mostly adult males, to cities around the country in the dark of night is a "betrayal" of the American people, who deserve "real answers," Kentucky Republican Rep. James Comer told Fox News early Friday morning.

"And I do expect Congress to hold him accountable," if and when Republicans gain control of the House and maybe the Senate in the November elections, he said.

While Comer talked about accountability, he was more cautious about impeachment, saying that Republicans should first "focus on winning the elections in November."

"The president owes answers to the American people," Comer said:

This is just like every disaster in the Biden administration. They don't want to talk about it. The mainstream media continues to give Joe Biden a free pass. The only time they ever bark back at Biden is if he lets off the gas in some kind of progressive policy...But with his actions here and the Homeland Security secretary 's actions, I mean, this is something that I do fully expect a Republican majority to hold President Biden accountable.

You know, when you talk about impeachment, President Trump was impeached by a Democrat House twice, but then it goes over to the Senate, where it takes a lot of votes, and it's a much more difficult task. But I can promise you one thing, that when the Republicans are in the majority of the House, we're going to march every Biden Cabinet secretary over to have to answer to the American people.

We're going to ask the questions that every American deserves to have answers for. And they're going to have to provide answers. They're going to be under oath. And you know, Joe Biden has got a lot of explaining to do to people who are going to look out their window and see illegals that have been transported in the dead of night into their neighborhood.

Turning Immigration and Customs Enforcement into a travel agency for illegal border crossers, at taxpayer expense, is "certainly a betrayal," Comer said.

But I don't think Republicans need to take our eye off the ball just yet. We need to focus on winning the elections in November. Were going to continue to probe. I know that I spoke with Jim Jordan over the weekend, and he's got plenty of investigations ongoing in Judiciary. We have as well, in Oversight.

We're trying to accumulate data, we're asking for the administration to preserve every document. They know what's going to happen in January. They're going to start getting real oversight and the American people want answers. And I think that Joe Biden's got a lot of explaining to do.

We knew they were doing something with these illegals. Until this video came out to actually prove it, we didn't know exactly how they were transporting these illegals from one point to the other, but the American people do not want these people in their neighborhoods. And this is something Joe Biden has snuck around, it's illegal. And I do expect Congress to hold him accountable.

DHS Officials Warn of Migration Crisis: ‘Prepare for Border Surges Now’

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials are warning of an illegal immigration crisis at the United States-Mexico border as President Joe Biden continues unraveling border controls that slowed the flow of foreign nationals over the last year.

Internal communications at DHS, reported by the Washington Post and the Washington Times, reveal that agency officials are seemingly concerned that illegal immigration will continue ticking upwards while Biden keeps lifting migration controls.

The Post reported:

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement email obtained by The Washington Post shows that the administration has already entered crisis mode on the southern border. [Emphasis added]

“We need to prepare for border surges now,” Timothy Perry, ICE’s new chief of staff, wrote in a Feb. 12 email. “We need to begin making changes immediately.” [Emphasis added]

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told senior officials “to prepare for border surges now,” Perry wrote. “We need to begin making changes immediately. We should privilege action over cost considerations; do what is needed, and the department will work on funding afterward.” [Emphasis added]

To prevent the appearance of a crisis — with crowded holding facilities and overwhelmed federal agents — DHS and the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) are reportedly flying foreign nationals arriving at the southern border into cities across the U.S.

Biden, since taking office in late January, has ended the Remain in Mexico policy, restarted the Catch and Release program, and canceled cooperative asylum agreements with Central America.

The surge, thus far, has pushed the Biden administration to open a holding facility in Carizzo Springs, Texas, that will hold up to 700 Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs). Likewise, DHS is opening a facility in Donna, Texas.

Biden’s opening of the facilities near the border comes after he spent his 2020 presidential campaign denouncing former President Trump for detaining border crossers in facilities rather than freeing them into the U.S. interior.

“Close them down!” Biden said in August 2019 of the facilities.

Two Mexican Soldiers Injured by Bombs Dropped from Cartel Drones

One of the world’s most violent drug cartels injured two Mexican Army soldiers by using drones to drop explosives on them. The drone attack comes as two main drug cartels fight for control of Michoacan’s drug production territories and drug trafficking routes.

The drone attack took place near the town of Tepalcatepec, a region where gunmen from an alliance of local cartels and self-defense groups called Carteles Unidos have been fighting to keep out gunmen from Cartel Jalisco New Generation (CJNG).

According to information released by Michoacan state authorities, police arrested two men in connection with the case. While authorities did confirm that two soldiers were injured in the explosion, they have tried to avoid officially confirming the drone attack. They also denied other confrontations in the region.

The soldiers attempted to take over some roadblocks set up along some of the main roads in the region. The soldiers removed the roadblock but then CJNG gunmen began dropping IEDs on them, military sources revealed to Breitbart Texas.

Additional conflicts took place in the towns nearby where locals tried to run off military forces by throwing rocks at them and trying to physically assault them. A video from the event captured the action as soldiers resort to throwing rocks in an attempt to keep the locals back.

Through social media accounts, some of the locals claimed the military attacked them.

The clashing with cartel gunmen and the civil unrest comes in the middle of the cartel turf war at a time when Mexico’s government is claiming that violence is decreasing.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and other areas to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by Jose Luis Lara, a former leading member who helped start the Self-Defense Movement in Michoacán.

Attorney General Bonta Announces 180 Felony Arrests During Investigation Targeting Westside Verdugo Criminal Street Gang in San Bernardino

Contact: (916) 210-6000, agpressoffice@doj.ca.gov

SAN BERNARDINO  California Attorney General Rob Bonta, San Bernardino Police Chief David Green, and San Bernardino District Attorney Jason Anderson today announced the results of a joint investigation into the Westside Verdugo criminal street gang. In June, the police department requested assistance with its investigation of the gang’s violent criminal activity from the California Department of Justice’s Special Operations Unit. Together with the district attorney’s office and other local law enforcement partners, the team made 180 felony arrests, shut down 30 illegal gambling establishments, and seized 92 handguns, 19 assault weapons, $295,870 in U.S. currency, as well as hundreds of pounds of illicit drugs over the course of the investigation. Yesterday, the investigation culminated in a largescale operation with agents executing 34 search warrants, arresting 31 suspects, and seizing 11 firearms at multiple sites in San Bernardino County.

“Members and associates of this gang have committed violent crimes in San Bernardino with no regard for the people in the community who are directly or indirectly harmed,” said Attorney General Rob Bonta. “This investigation and yesterday’s arrests and seizures have removed dangerous individuals from our streets and firearms from the hands of those who would choose to commit violent crimes. The results of this investigation could also assist law enforcement in solving other cases in the area. The partnership between our agents and local law enforcement made this possible, and I’m thankful to every person involved in this successful investigation.”

“As decriminalization initiatives continue to undermine the safety of our community, we have never been more reliant on our law enforcement partners,” said San Bernardino Police Chief David Green

“The scale of this multiagency operation speaks to the commitment we have to eradicate criminal street gangs across San Bernardino County, particularly one with such a violent history as the Westside Verdugo gang,” said San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson. “Violent crime is on the rise, and several of the defendants we have filed against are facing their 3rd strike, indicating a propensity for criminal behavior. The success of this takedown was due to the tremendous efforts of the San Bernardino Police Department and the Department of Justice in conducting the investigation, and the tenacity of our specialized gang unit prosecutors. We will use everything in our toolkit including weapon enhancements, gang enhancements, prior convictions, and prior strike convictions to ensure maximum accountability from these defendants, keeping career criminals off the streets of San Bernardino and out of our communities.”

Westside Verdugo has an extensive criminal history in the San Bernardino area. The gang is suspected of multiple violent crimes including assault, attempted murder, and murder.

Over the course of the investigation, numerous violent crimes were prevented, including shootings and armed robberies. Evidence collected during the investigation also assisted in solving two homicides in the area. Agents also shut down 30 illegal gambling establishments and seized over 100 illegal gambling machines and devices. These establishments were operated by members and associates of Westside Verdugo and brought in tens of thousands of dollars a week for the gang. In 2021, five homicides, four attempted murders, and multiple other crimes were linked to these sites.

DOJ’s Special Operations Unit is a collaborative investigative effort between DOJ and the California Highway Patrol. The unit provides statewide enforcement for combating violent career criminals, gangs, and organized crime groups, along with intrastate drug traffickers. These unique and essential teams use the latest technology and advanced investigative techniques and work alongside local law enforcement to enhance investigations into violent criminals and organized crime throughout the state.

SAN BERNARDINO: 52 gang members indicted in drug sales, smuggling case

Fifty-two members and associates of San Bernardino’s largest criminal gang were indicted Thursday on narcotics trafficking charges, the FBI said.

Of those 52, 21 people were arrested Thursday, and 22 already were in custody on unrelated charges, according to an FBI news release. The other  nine are being sought.

All were charged with conspiracy to distribute and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and heroin. Seven also are charged with distributing the narcotics, the FBI said. The indictment, unsealed Thursday, was the result of a yearslong investigation by federal, state, county and city authorities that targeted the West Side Verdugo gang.

The defendants face 10 years to life in prison if convicted, the FBI said.

San Bernardino police Lt. Rich Lawhead, who was part of the team that made the arrests, said that in addition to drug pushing, West Side Verdugo members are responsible for several homicides and assaults in the city.

“All our street gangs are a problem,” Lawhead said. “They create an environment of fear. Gangs in general are responsible for a majority of our homicides and a lot of the other illegal activity in the city.”

Most of the 90-page indictment is devoted to summaries of 502 separate phone calls or text messages intercepted by authorities in which the sales of heroin and meth were discussed in coded language. Other messages discussed smuggling drugs to inmates, including those in the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, and Corcoran and Ironwood state prisons.

There were also conversations about money owed, the collection of “drug taxes” from dealers allowed to set up in gang territory, and the enforcement of gang rules.

The conversations occurred from Aug. 26, 2010, to Jan. 16, 2012.

“A lot of these people were shocked when we showed up,” Lawhead said, noting the amount of time that had passed since the investigation began. “But the wheels of justice do move.”

Lawhead said he hoped the arrests would dissuade youngsters from joining gangs.

The release said the Verdugo gang and its affiliates are linked to the Mexican Mafia prison gang. The indictment outlines how some of the proceeds generated by narcotic sales were funneled to the Mexican Mafia.

Some of the drugs were dealt at what was described as the “7th Street Park.” FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said that was a reference to La Plaza Park on Mt. Vernon Avenue, at Seventh Street on San Bernardino’s west side.

Lawhead said heroin has been sold at that park for years, and that the city’s officers patrol La Plaza and other parks in an effort to deter drug dealers.

Gang members went to great lengths to smuggle drugs to inmates, according to the indictment. One person, identified as “Martinez,” was told to sneak drugs into West Valley Detention Center by getting himself arrested and booked into the facility. His plan was foiled, however, when a police officer merely wrote a citation for an unspecified offense.

“There wasn’t anyone who wanted to go to jail today – I guarantee you that,” Lawhead said.

Other agencies participating in the investigation and arrests, according to the FBI, were the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, San Bernardino County Probation Department, Los Angeles Police Department, LA County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Drug Enforcement Administration and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Joint investigation into San Bernardino street gang nets 180 arrests, firearms, drugs

Tentacles of operation allegedly reached into Los Angeles and Orange counties

A yearlong investigation into a San Bernardino street gang’s criminal activity has netted 180 arrests, shuttered 30 illegal gambling operations and resulted in the seizure of more than 100 assault weapons and handguns, authorities announced Thursday.

San Bernardino police last year began investigating illegal firearms sales involving Westside Verdugo, a Latino street gang rooted in the city for roughly 70 years.

But early on in the investigation, police realized they were dealing with something much bigger than just illicit gun sales, Police Chief David Green said during a news conference Thursday at the San Bernardino Police Department, where dozens of assault weapons and handguns seized by police during the investigation were spread across a table. “As they started doing more analysis on these cases, they were recognizing it was a little more coordinated and a little more significant than what they initially realized, and that’s when they started pursuing it as more of a conspiracy type of investigation,” Green said. The investigation and subsequent arrests extended into Orange and Los Angeles counties, he said.

Several agencies enlisted

In June, the investigation ramped up when the San Bernardino Police Department asked the state attorney general’s Special Operations Unit to join in. The Santa Ana Police Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol also assisted in the investigation, which culminated Wednesday when officers fanned out across San Bernardino County, serving 34 search warrants, arresting 31 people and seizing 111 firearms at multiple locations.

During the course of the investigation, coined “Operation Westside Jenga,” police seized 92 handguns, 19 assault weapons, more than $295,000 in cash and hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine, marijuana, heroin and fentanyl. Several potential shootings and armed robberies were thwarted, and evidence collected by investigators during the investigation assisted in the closure of two homicide cases, police said.

Additionally, investigators infiltrated and shut down 30 illegal gambling operations and seized more than 100 high-end gambling machines. The facilities were linked to five homicides, four attempted murders and other crimes in 2021, authorities said.

Gambling operations

The gambling operations — which housed high-end gambling machines, most of them acquired on the black market and imported from China — were bringing in tens of thousands of dollars a week and were operated out of private residences, warehouses and closed businesses, Green said.

He said the gambling facilities were a joint-enterprise between Westside Verdugo and the Mexican Mafia, the patriarchal prison gang that receives a share of profits from drug sales and other illicit business carried out by Westside Verdugo and other Latino street gangs in the form of “taxes.” Some of that revenue was reinvested into the gambling operations.

“It has a hierarchy. It has its own business model. It’s an illicit business model, but it’s one that’s very lucrative nonetheless,” Green said.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta said the people of San Bernardino “can go to bed tonight knowing their community is safer.”

“We’re putting serious criminals behind bars,” Bonta said, adding that he was proud of the results of the investigation not only as attorney general, but also as a father. “Every child in California deserves to grow up in a safe neighborhood — a neighborhood that is free from violence, a neighborhood without gun violence.”

Feds not involved

Green said authorities opted to handle the prosecution locally without the help of the federal government, which often takes down such large criminal enterprises using the Racketeering Influenced Corrupt Organizations Act, referred to as the RICO Act.

“We’re not pursuing a federal prosecution in this case because we have the local District Attorney’s Office that we feel is going to be able to give us a successful prosecutorial outcome,” Green said. “But these types of cases are often handled by federal prosecutors under that RICO statute.”

San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson said his office has so far charged 45 defendants with various felony offenses, which include a total of 57 firearm enhancements and 41 gang enhancements. Six of the defendants are facing third strikes, Anderson said.

“Our role is twofold in this particular instance. Number one is we are going to punish these individuals as severely as we possibly can, and number two, we’re going to separate them from an otherwise law-abiding community for as long as we can,” Anderson said.

More criminal charges are expected, authorities said.

“Many of these cases are still under review, and we are expecting many more charges to be filed,” Green said. “Some of them will be tried jointly, and some of them will be parsed out separately.”

"This is how they will destroy America from within.  The leftist billionaires who orchestrate these plans are wealthy. Those tasked with representing us in Congress will never be exposed to the cost of the invasion of millions of migrants.  They have nothing but contempt for those of us who must endure the consequences of our communities being intruded upon by gang members, drug dealers and human traffickers.  These people have no intention of becoming Americans; like the Democrats who welcome them, they have contempt for us." PATRICIA McCARTHY

Heather Mac Donald of the Manhattan Institute has testified before a Congressional committee that in 2004, 95% of all outstanding warrants for murder in Los Angeles were for illegal aliens; in 2000, 23% of all Los Angeles County jail inmates were illegal aliens and that in 1995, 60% of Los Angeles’s largest street gang, the 18th Street gang, were illegal aliens.

Texas DPS: Mexican Cartels Committing Murders in the U.S.

Drug cartel gunmen are crossing the border to commit murders in Texas, authorities claim. The statements by officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety directly clash with longstanding claims by local police chiefs who routinely say that border cities are safe.

“These criminal organizations come across from Mexico to the U.S. side and they kill individuals. they murder individuals,” Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Lieutenant Chris Olivarez told Sara Carter with Fox News. “We have had several incidents that have taken place along the border using professional-type weapons the way they carry out these killings, very professional, very methodical.”

The statements by Olivarez come at a time when both DPS and the Texas National Guard increased their law enforcement presence along the border in response to record-breaking human and drug smuggling activity by criminal organizations like the Gulf Cartel and the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas.

The statements made by Olivarez clash with the longstanding narrative by several politicians, local police chiefs, and sheriffs who claim that border cities are safe. Those claims are usually backed up by statistics from the FBI Uniform Crime Report. However as Breitbart Texas has reported, the UCR only looks at seven specific crimes and does not account for criminal activity that is specific to border cities such as kidnappings, extortion, drug trafficking, human smuggling, and human trafficking.

Additionally, the terminology used by police departments for the UCR report allows them to hide the severity of certain crimes. One example particular to border cities deals with home invasions, where teams of gunmen storm into a house looking for drugs or cash. As Breitbart Texas has reported, home invasions are reported in the UCR report only as robberies.

Surge in Fentanyl Seizures Show Cartels Taking Advantage of Lax Border Policies, DHS Officials Say

Customs and Border Protection's fentanyl seizures skyrocketed by over 40 percent in the month of October, as drug traffickers and cartels take advantage of the border crisis.

Agency data show that CBP agents last month captured nearly 1,050 pounds of the lethal opioid, the fifth-highest amount in three years. For comparison, the amount of fentanyl seized in October is more than 2.5 times the amount the agency seized in the first three months of 2019 and roughly 40 percent of the amount seized in all of 2019.

The high amount of fentanyl busts coincides with skyrocketing opiate overdoses across the country—the Centers for Disease Control recorded a record-high 12-month overdose death toll between March 2020 and March 2021 with no signs of deceleration through the end of this year. The seizures also come as President Joe Biden reverses a number of border policies, a decision that critics say grants more opportunities for criminal elements to smuggle drugs into the country.

One senior Department of Homeland Security official told the Washington Free Beacon that drug smugglers are accelerating their operations as agents on the border face resource and manpower constraints with processing asylum claims instead of trying to stop drug smugglers.

"Cartels are exploiting the migrant crisis to expand drug and human smuggling," one senior DHS official said. "The administration knew full well that using agents to process mass groups of economic migrants would mean reducing the effort to combat crime. They alone own these failures."

The Biden administration has touted high seizure numbers as a success. Deputy White House Press Secretary Andrew Bates on Nov. 2 tweeted out an excerpt from an MSNBC piece that said, "The [fentanyl] seizures disprove one of the [GOP's] favorite talking points: If the president had implemented an ‘open-border' policy, as the right routinely claims, U.S. Customs and Border Protection wouldn't have stopped these shipments."

Officials within Border Patrol and DHS disputed that characterization by the White House, with the senior DHS official calling Bates's comment "galaxy brain" thinking.

Many states have pinned much of the blame for the opioid crisis on the Biden administration's immigration policies, calling them reckless and a public health threat.

West Virginia, which has been among the states hardest hit by the opioid crisis, in August filed a lawsuit against DHS and Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over the department's decision to end the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocols, which force asylum seekers to remain in Mexico before their court dates in the United States. The state alleged in court that the decision contributed to the "devastating deadly flood of fentanyl across the Southwest border."

"By its consequences burdening and distracting the Border Patrol, the termination of the [Migrant Protection Protocols] decreases the security of the border against fentanyl trafficking between ports of entry, leading directly to both increased numbers of smuggling attempts and increased rates of success in evading Border Patrol," the lawsuit stated. Missouri in April filed a similar suit against DHS.

Research has found that just two milligrams of fentanyl can cause a lethal overdose in people with no prior use of the drug, meaning the amount of the drug seized in October alone could kill over 200 million people.

The influx of fentanyl from across the border has led to bipartisan efforts in Congress to ramp up law-enforcement efforts to arrest and prosecute dealers and traffickers. A group of Republican and Democratic senators in September introduced the Providing Officers with Electronic Resources Act, which provides grants to local law-enforcement agencies for portable fentanyl screening devices.
