A man allegedly attacked a 63-year-old man at a movie theater in Broward County, Florida, during an argument over seating.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday the alleged attacker “gave his worst performance” at the theater, and detectives are working to find him.
The victim told the Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Violent Crimes Unit detectives that on the evening of July 10, he and his wife arrived at the Pompano Beach theater after buying VIP tickets with advanced seating, the law enforcement agency said in a press release Thursday.
However, when the couple entered the theater, the victim saw another man and woman in their seats, the agency continued:
According to the preliminary investigation, the victim politely asked the subject to move from their seats. Witnesses said that’s when the subject became hostile, standing up and aggressively getting in the victim’s face. The subject got so close to the victim that it forced him to take a step back ending up on the stairs in the aisle of the theater.
The video captured the moment the verbal altercation turned physical. In the heated moment, the victim loses his balance and falls down the steps. The subject is seen standing above the 63-year-old victim repeatedly punching him in the face until witnesses rushed to the victim’s aid and pulled the subject off him.
As the two men engage, the woman behind the alleged attacker appears to place her hand on his shoulder to pull him off the victim, according to Fox 35.
However, other moviegoers rush over to stop the incident from progressing further as the woman stands back from the altercation.
The clip also shows the alleged attacker and woman walking down one of the AMC Theater’s hallways as if nothing happened, while a sign above one of the theater’s doors says, “Enjoy Your Movie.”
According to the sheriff’s office, the pair exited the building after the altercation that left the victim with head and face injuries.
The man was eventually taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at the AMC Theater located at 2315 North Federal Highway.

In Major Shift, Biden Officials Pledge to Ban Huawei from Access to American Tech
The Chinese tech giant has become the poster child for Beijing’s spy operations in America
Top Biden administration officials on Thursday committed to banning China’s Huawei from accessing all American technology, a landmark policy shift that would deal a significant blow to Beijing’s spy operations in the United States.
When pressed during a hearing on the Biden administration’s China strategy, officials from the Pentagon and State and Commerce Departments all agreed that Huawei should no longer be able to access American technology. That declaration, made before the House Select Committee on China, marks a significant policy shift for the Biden administration, which has come under intense criticism from Republican China hawks for granting Huawei around $60 billion in export licenses.
Huawei, one of China’s largest state-controlled technology corporations, has become the poster child for Beijing’s spy operations in America and is already banned from selling some of its equipment in the United States due to mounting concerns that it is vulnerable to CCP espionage operations. But the Biden administration has delayed action on an outright ban on Huawei’s purchase of U.S. technology, likely to avoid upsetting the Chinese Communist government at a time when American diplomats are working to diffuse tensions.
Rep. Mike Gallagher (R., Wis.), the House China Committee’s chairman, called this delay unacceptable during the Thursday hearing, and pointedly asked each Biden administration official in attendance: "Do you believe that U.S. technology should go to a company that spies on the U.S., like Huawei?"
"No," responded Ely Ratner, the assistant secretary of defense for Indo-Pacific security affairs.
Daniel Kritenbrink, assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, also said, "No," adding that: "We should take steps necessary to defend our national security. We will and we have."
Thea Kendler, assistant secretary of commerce for export administration, offered a similar response to Gallagher’s question, saying her agency is "very clear in our national security approach to Huawei. Absolutely no advanced technology is permitted under our regulations." The Commerce Department is also targeting other technology companies "across the PRC" to crackdown on espionage.
Gallagher said he was encouraged by these answers, but still questioned why the Biden administration is delaying action on an outright ban.
"The idea that we may be delaying defensive action in order to pursue economic and diplomatic engagement with the People’s Republic of China" is particularly "troubling," Gallagher said.
The Biden administration officials also came under fire for not issuing any sanctions on Chinese officials complicit in human rights abuses, as they are legally required to do.
"It’s been over two years since a single Hong Kong or PRC official was sanctioned for the erosion of Hong Kong’s autonomy," Gallagher said. "The administration has refused to implement the sanctions required by the bipartisan Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act, and Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman reportedly lobbied Congress to water down provisions in the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act."
When pressed on the matter, the State Department’s Kritenbrink declined to say if he had ever advised senior diplomats to delay sanctions on Chinese officials.
"I won’t comment on any discussion that may or may not have happened," Kritenbrink said, adding that the administration is "committed to enforcing U.S. law."
Biggest Beneficiaries of Biden's Climate Cash Are Foreign Companies
More than 60 percent of climate subsidies from President Joe Biden's climate law passed last year went to projects involving foreign companies, a Wall Street Journal analysis found.
The Inflation Reduction Act is set to throw more than $1.2 trillion in tax incentives and loans to green energy industries over the next 10 years, according to a Goldman Sachs forecast. The federal government has injected $110 billion in climate subsidies into the economy since the law's passage in August. The Journal reports 15 of the 20 largest investments went to companies based overseas or tied to foreign businesses.
Biden touted the law as a plan to build in the United States "with American companies" and bolster the country’s ability "to compete with China for the future." But $8 billion of the $110 billion in total investment spurred by the law went to companies based in China or with substantial ties to the country, according to the Journal.
The report comes as the Biden administration has taken criticism for how its energy agenda benefits China. The Washington Free Beacon reported in January the Energy Department was funneling $50 million to a lithium battery company that sourced its materials from China. The department was also set to send $200 million to a battery company whose CEO had gone through a Chinese Communist Party program the FBI warned was used for economic espionage. The administration called off the investment in May.
Two projects in Michigan are drawing fire for connections to China. Ford is partnering with Chinese tech company CATL on a $3.5 billion battery factory in southern Michigan. Another Chinese company, Gotion, is seeking to build a $2.4 billion battery-component factory near Grand Rapids. The Gotion plant has faced opposition from local residents for its connections to the Chinese Communist Party.
Other foreign companies, including South Korea and Japan, are investing in projects like battery plants based in the United States. Japanese tech company Panasonic could rake in more than $2 billion in tax credits due to its Nevada and Kansas battery plants.
Some experts project the law could inject $3 trillion in green subsidies into the global economy over the next decade.

The former chief investigator for the Department of Education said the agency noticed a "startling" spike in Chinese donations to the University of Pennsylvania after President Joe Biden opened his think tank at the school in 2017.
"It was extraordinary," said Paul Moore, who served as the agency's chief investigative counsel during the Trump administration, in congressional testimony on Thursday. UPenn raked in over $100 million from China-based contributors between 2017 and 2022, the Washington Free Beacon reported earlier this year. This was a substantial increase from the four years prior to 2017, when the school received a total of $19 million.
Moore's testimony comes as UPenn and the Penn Biden Center face scrutiny over the surge in foreign donations, many of them anonymous, that coincided with the think tank's opening and President Joe Biden's election. Watchdog groups have said the funding raises concerns about foreign influence-buying.
UPenn has said that no foreign donations were earmarked for the Penn Biden Center and that the think tank is supported by the school's general budget. But Moore said that foreign contributions to UPenn's general fund could have made their way to the Penn Biden Center indirectly.
"Those funds were co-mingled, and certainly went to the general operations, and may have gone to the Biden Center," he said.
Rep. Jim Banks (R., Ind.) asked Moore if other universities saw similar increases in Chinese funding. Under federal law, schools that receive government support are required to disclose their overseas donations to the Department of Education.
"Not in that time frame. Absolutely not," said Moore, adding that while other schools saw an uptick in China donations, none saw an increase to the same extent as UPenn.
"It was particularly startling to see with UPenn what they had received. That was very notable," he said.
The former Education Department official told the committee that his office declined to investigate the donations because there was no evidence that UPenn was violating any of the agency's laws by accepting the funding.
"Members of Congress wrote to us, urging us to open an investigation," he said. "It would have been a very political thing, inappropriate, frankly, for the office of general counsel."
Several high-profile Biden officials worked at the think tank before joining the administration, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who served as the Penn Biden Center's director.
The National Legal and Policy Center, a government watchdog group, has said the donations raise concerns about foreign influence-buying and called on the Department of Education to release the names of the anonymous funders.
"The Department of Education's policy of hiding the identities of foreign entities showering our universities with billions of dollars is promoting a toxic brew of dark money and corruption," Tom Anderson, the director of the center's Government Integrity Project, told the Free Beacon in January.
