America and the Common Characteristics of Authoritarian Regimes
History has shown us that there is a great deal of commonality among dictatorial regimes across the world. So here they are, in no particular order of importance. Perhaps some features may seem familiar.
Rigged Elections
Dictatorial regimes are aware that the world looks upon them with consternation due to their repression of the citizenry. Hence, they stage periodic elections where the result is predecided. The leader anointed by the establishment always wins with an unprecedented majority.
To achieve this landslide victory, ballot boxes are stuffed, counting is rigged, electronic voting machines are tampered with, opposition candidates are baselessly smeared, voting rules manipulated to facilitate easy rigging, and neutral observers are banned.
In North Korea, voting is mandatory, but you receive a ballot paper with just one name on it. There's nothing to fill in, no boxes to tick. You put the paper into the ballot box.
Media Control
In authoritarian countries, the media is the propaganda wing of the regime. Every syllable that appears is approved by the regime. There may be a variety of news outlets, but all of them follow the groupthink assiduously. Violators are dismissed from the mainstream. The regime always works toward hounding and dismantling adversarial media.
When PM Indira Gandhi suspended democracy in India from 1971 to 1977, restricting media freedoms was one of her first actions.
Persecution of Dissidents
The regime knows that a brave new idea works like a flame that sets fire to an entire forest. Hence, they are perpetually on the lookout for the slightest hint of dissent. The goal is to punish dissenters before they can cause damage. It also serves as a deterrent for aspiring dissenters.
In East Germany under the communist regime, it was common for the Stasi secret police to detain dissenters without a warrant. At times the dissenter is sent to ‘camps’ or even perished in prison.
Literature and Entertainment Devolve Into Propaganda and Trash
The regime knows that people need to be distracted from their nefarious doings.
Thus, they serve entertainment that dumbs down the population. The entertainment and literary wing are also a valuable propaganda wing that generates content to ridicule dissenters and glorify the regime.
Most Nazi propaganda targeted their Jewish citizenry and dissenters while they glorified Hitler as the chosen one.
Education Becomes Brainwashing
The best way to crush a rebellion is to target potential rebels when they are young. Like entertainment, the syllabus is tailored to glorify the regime and denigrate opponents. When the young who consume this syllabus grow up, they become blind and staunch proponents.
In China, the syllabus consistently extolls the achievements of the Chinese Communist Party.
An Abundance of Hoaxes
The regimes know that the people need to be kept under control. They know that nothing controls the mind better than fear. Hence, they propagate hoaxes and even go to the extent of staging hoaxes. The Nazis set the Reichstag on fire and blamed it on their opponents, using the fire to suspend civil liberties.
Lockdowns
The regime always fears popular uprising and hence keeps using lockdowns and curfews to restrict movement. Prolonged lockdowns have a deleterious effect on one's psyche. The regimes knowns that a crushed spirit seldom rebels
During the 90s, states of emergency was imposed in certain areas of the USSR, there were curfews and bans on public gatherings and violators were punished.
Targeting of Political Opponents
The regime always fears populist or grassroots movements and focuses on targeting and destroying the leaders of the moment.
In Pakistan, few ‘elected leaders’ ever complete their tenure in office. These ‘leaders’ are either executed or jailed or ‘exiled’ after Pakistan's deep state stages a coup. Occasionally, army generals who led coups themselves become victims of a coup led by other factions of the deep state.
A Dummy Opposition
In order to demonstrate their ‘commitment to democracy’ the regime always ensures the existence of an opposition party. This party is like lapdogs that crawl when they are asked to bend and prostrate when asked to crawl. They may say the right thing and pretend to be critics, but when the time comes they side with the regime.
There are eight minor political parties in China but they operate under the CCP's united-front system.
Targeting of Religious Institutions
Marx famously said that religion is the opium of the masses. The regimes know that faith in a supreme being can unite people against them without fear. Religion also provides moral guidance to citizens which once again could lead them to become dissenters.
Throughout the history of the Soviet Union (1917–1991), there were periods when Soviet authorities suppressed and persecuted various forms of Christianity to different extents depending on State interests.
Rubber Stamp Leader
Voltaire famously said about the former state of Prussia that “while most states have an army, the Prussian Army has a state.” In current times it is the deep state that controls the ‘leader’ who is either mentally unfit or willingly servile or both.
During his final years, Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev suffered from dementia, resulting in his mumbling speech and bad memory. The strings were pulled by the regime.

The Omnipresent State
The regime wants to ensure that it is present and can monitor every aspect of the citizenry. It could be a dietary restriction, that sounds innocuous. It could be the monitoring of communications or financial transactions citing a terror threat. This often leads to self-censorship on the part of citizens.
The regimes of Iran, Singapore, China, Singapore, the UAE, Vietnam, and Yemen have invasive surveillance policies.
Mandates and Diktats
The citizen is often subjected to diktats that they have no option but to comply with. This could be activities such as demonstrating loyalty to the regime or even medical procedures.
Hitler created the first German compulsory sterilization law six months after he became chancellor.
Now for the present.
If you ask any American what they value most in the U.S., their monosyllabic reply usually is ‘freedom.’
This is the freedom to live as one pleases without being monitored or judged. It is the freedom to express oneself without fear of retaliation. It is the freedom to earn a living in a merit-based system.
It is therefore nothing short of shocking to notice that almost every feature implemented by dictatorial regimes now exists in the U.S.
We usually think of authoritarian regimes rising after a bloody military coup.
The powers that be in the U.S. know that they cannot do anything so blatant. Hence the changes have been subtle and gradual over the past few decades.
The true colors were completely revealed on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, when the electoral democracy in the U.S. really worked as the people voted for Donald J Trump, a man whom the establishment tried their level best to destroy.
The retaliation for this act of bravery on the part of the citizenry that began from that very day continues presently.
It is now up to the citizens to decide what kind of country they want to live in.

One of the most disgusting things to come out of the Obama administration was "Operation Fast and Furious," where members of the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) allowed illegal gun sales to go through – commonly referred to as "gun walking" – in order to track buyers and sellers they believed were connected to the Mexican drug cartels. The Machinery of Government is Coated with Gunk
The juxtaposition of the Department of Justice’s handling of Hunter Biden with its outrageous treatment of Donald J. Trump justifies Scott Adams's view: "We can now see all of the machinery of government, from influence peddling to fake news to intel-supported hoaxes to political persecutions.” Diving even deeper, as have Jonathan Turley, James Freeman, Dan Bongino, and David Samuels, it’s beginning to look as if Barack Obama knew of Hunter’s corruption and the danger it posed to national security and did nothing about it. In exchange, he’s serving a third term as president behind the scrim while the demented present officeholder serves as a front.
Giving Hunter a pass does more than underscore the Administration’s double standard, it explains why the Democrats worked so tirelessly to weaken 2020 election procedures to advance to the highest office a man demonstrably unfit to carry out its duties: They had him on a short rope -- he either ceded the powers of office to Obama or Hunter’s illicit dealings would land both Hunter and him in jail.
The Latest Indictment of Trump
The latest indictment of Trump -- I believe there have been three in the past four months -- is not only clearly political, designed to obstruct his campaign, but it is seriously flawed as a legal matter. Reams have been published on this point, but I think the most complete is that of Will Scharf. I’ll summarize his key points but urge you to read it all.
The charges depend on Trump’s state of mind and “proving the requisite intent on the part of Trump and his alleged co-conspirators on all of these charges is likely impossible, at least in front of a fair jury in a fair courtroom.” More troubling is that “Jack Smith’s theory of the case necessarily requires criminalizing political speech,” a core protection of the First Amendment. Trump is surely not the first candidate to claim elections were stolen from them: In 1824 Andrew Jackson claimed John Quincy Adams cheated him out of the election. More recently Hillary Clinton and Stacey Abrams, to name but two, made that claim. “After the 2000, 2004, and 2016 elections Democrats attempted to interfere with the electoral count process” and one can argue that Smith’s theory of the case would make those claims and acts criminal matters. The capper is Smith’s using a statute designed to deal with the Ku Klux Klan -- a statute criminalizing efforts to deprive people of their rights under the Constitution. Recent cases in the Supreme Court make clear that the statute is not violated unless the prosecution proves that Trump and his co-conspirators “acted with specific intent to deprive people of the right to have their votes counted’ (emphasis added). The count alleging fraudulent conspiracy is no better than the other counts:
Smith’s theory is that Trump and his alleged co-conspirators conspired to “defeat the lawful federal government function by which the results of the presidential election are collected, counted, and certified by the federal government.” But in light of the requirements for proving fraud conspiracy under § 371, Smith needs to show that Trump and his team knew their theories were groundless when they promoted them to state legislators and other decision-makers in the electoral count process and encouraged those officials to take various official actions. And that Trump and his team agreed this was the plan -- promoting theories they knew were groundless, based on facts that they knew were false, to these legislators and officials.
The fact that Trump received advice to the contrary just doesn’t cut it, from a legal perspective, when it comes to proving a fraud conspiracy under § 371. This charge appears to be dead on arrival from a legal perspective.
Nor does the Obstruction Count justify the prosecution, for the same inability to prove intent to “obstruct an official proceeding” to benefit himself by means he knew to be unlawful.
Of course, whatever infirmities there are in this case, the most obvious is that the facts in this case were known in 2020, and timing it now while demanding a speedy trial has “all the appearances” of Smith arrogating to himself the right to pick the next president.
A similar but shorter take from Professor Alan Dershowitz, who is skeptical of Trump getting a fair trial in D.C. "The Supreme Court will rule it unconstitutional, because there was no actual speech to defraud an election or interrupt congressional procedure. There are no actions he took. No one is prepared to testify there was. You are allowed to contest an election. You are allowed to doubt the results of the election.”
Others have argued that this case is essentially the rehash of the partisan J6 findings and an impeachment for which he was not convicted, and is therefore barred by the constitutional provision against double jeopardy. Criminal trial lawyers also observe that the nature of the charges permits Trump to seek from every agency of the government potentially exculpatory matters in their files, a process which would very substantially delay matters. (The prosecution has already admitted error when they claimed it has produced certain records to the defense which they had not.) Later last week, further shredding the constitutional rights of the defendant, Smith has asked the judge to order away Trump from disclosing witness testimony he received in discovery -- this after extensive poisoning public opinion and the jury pool with his own pre-indictment comments.

How Much Did the Department of Justice and Obama Know of Biden Corruption?
In March of this year, Paul Sperry detailed how much of the Biden corruption was known to the Department of Justice, evidence in DoJ documents, and federal court records.
Much of the documentation relates to the 2016-2017 raid on the offices of Chi Ping “Patrick” Ho, “a Chinese national suspected of espionage even as he was negotiating business deals with …Hunter and [Joe Biden’s] brother James.” The article provides extensive proof of the breadth of the government’s knowledge of the Biden’s corrupt dealings with corrupt Chinese business partners. The government declined to “tap into this trove of evidence… to explore the connections between Ho and the Bidens who received millions of dollars from Ho and a Chinese intelligence front.” In fact, at Ho’s trial in 2018 they hid Hunter’s connection to Ho. Hunter never registered as required by law as an agent of Ho’s company and neither Biden disclosed the $6 million they received from it. One former government agent stated:
“It’s strange how there was no curiosity [at Justice] whatsoever about foreign influence on a potential president of the United States, especially from this country’s greatest threat -- China,” Swecker said.
Stranger still is that DOJ prosecutors knew the Bidens’ partner was a dangerous Chinese agent with “powerful” military and political ties, including to the leadership of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.
Biden Corruption Handed Obama His Third Term as President
As the absurd diversion agreement rejected last week by the Delaware judge shows -- the Department of Justice is still doing everything in its power to bury the story.
I don’t think it’s just because of partisanship.
Here’s a striking video showing with what great, open disdain Obama regards Joe Biden.
It is an unscripted tell, of what is more fully developed in this amazing interview by David Samuels with Obama’s biographer, David Garrow. This is an interview I consider a must read if you are to have a clue on Barack Obama (And, as well, a lesson on how to conduct a truly outstanding interview). Except for Woodrow Wilson, who was confined here by illness, no other former president besides Obama has maintained a principal private residence in the capital.
The election of Joe Biden in 2020 gave the Obamas even more reasons to stay in town. The whispers about Biden’s cognitive decline, which began during his bizarre COVID-sheltered basement campaign, were mostly dismissed as partisan attacks on a politician who had always been gaffe-ridden. Yet as President Biden continued to fall off bicycles, misremember basic names and facts, and mix long and increasingly weird passages of Dada-esque nonsense with autobiographical whoppers during his public appearances, it became hard not to wonder how poor the president’s capacities really were and who was actually making decisions in a White House staffed top to bottom with core Obama loyalists. When Obama turned up at the White House, staffers and the press crowded around him, leaving President Biden talking to the drapes -- which is not a metaphor but a real thing that happened.
Seems to me that someone not in “cognitive decline” and not under threat of prosecution for his crimes, and those of his brother and son, might well have resisted ceding power and control to his out-of-office predecessor, and that may best explain why the Democrats finagled election laws so hard to put Biden in the White House, and why the Department of Justice has worked so hard to keep the Biden family corruption concealed and unpunished.
Obama Already Distancing Himself From Biden Loss
He's at it again.
I know that Obama acting as the secret puppeteer behind Biden is a popular theory, but the reality is that…
1. Obama pressured Biden to announce he wasn’t running in 2016
2. Repeatedly undermined him during the 2020 primaries including getting his own actual candidate, Deval Patrick, whom he thought of as a substitute self, to jump in.
Even when Biden won the nomination, Obama made a point of running him down to party elites to make it clear that if he were to lose, the defeat shouldn’t reflect on him.
3. Obama is back to doing it again.
Obama warns of Trump’s political strengths in private talk with Biden – Washington Post
Private talks don’t become the headlines of Washington Post stories unless someone at that meeting wanted them to. After over a decade of this stuff, it’s very clear that person is Obama. If Biden loses then Obama is on record as having “warned him” while forecasting that he might lose. So don’t blame Barry.
This is a kinder, gentler version of his famous “don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f___ things up” line.
“Former president Barack Obama, at a private lunch with President Biden earlier this summer, voiced concern about Donald Trump’s political strengths — including an intensely loyal following, a Trump-friendly conservative media ecosystem and a polarized country — underlining his worry that Trump could be a more formidable candidate than many Democrats realize.”
The basic reality about Obama is that he’s a paranoid thin-skinned arrogant narcissist. Those aren’t ideal qualities for a puppeteer who has to jump out on stage and announce that he’s not responsible for the puppet who really isn’t anywhere as good as him. And if Biden wins Obama should get the credit, but if he loses, Obama shouldn’t get any of the blame..
Obama wants everyone to know that he was a unique political talent and that no one else can do what he did. Even before entering the fight, he wants to stake out both positions, publicly campaigning for Biden while privately warning that he might not be up to the job and lose. But this is what Obama does. He’s jealous and undermines everyone while blowing up his ego to room size. It’s a pathetic performance in this case that shows the party left him in the dust a while back. Obama did an incredible amount of damage and he’ll do some more in 2024, but he’s no longer the center of attention and he desperately wants to be.

The media undoubtedly downplayed it because it offered the truth behind many of Obama’s self-adulatory inventions, and Trump’s new presidency occupied everyone’s energy. What makes the book newsworthy today is that David Samuels has interviewed Garrow and revisited narratives in the book, reminding everyone of the scary, power-obsessed nastiness behind Obama’s carefully built façade.
The interview on Tablet is long and worth every second it takes you to read it. However, I’ve summarized below some of the highlights.
In Dreams from My Father, Obama describes his breakup with Sheila Miyoshi Jager, now a scholar known for her meticulous, honest research. According to Obama, they broke up because after seeing a play by August Wilson, a black writer, Obama suddenly gained a black consciousness that Jager refused to recognize or understand.
However, Garrow, unlike other journalists in America, interviewed Jager for her side of the story. It was quite different.

Jager said that they broke up because they went to see an exhibit about Adolf Eichman’s 1961 trial at the same time that Steve Cokely accused Chicago’s Jewish doctors of giving black babies AIDS. Jager, whose grandparents were honored as Righteous Gentiles for saving Jews during WWII, broke up with Obama because he refused to denounce anti-Semitism. Considering Obama’s open hostility to Israel and later palling around with famous anti-Semites (e.g., Rev. Wright; Obama’s infamous and still hidden tape at a pro-PLO dinner, and Obama’s photo with Farrakhan), her version rings true.
Another revelation was that Obama fantasized about sex with men, which would seem to support the many rumors about his sexuality.
When Garrow interviewed Obama over the course of 8 hours, he impressed Garrow with his focus on the “hilariously inconsequential,” such as insisting that he spoke fluent Indonesian in third grade.
When Garrow spoke with Bob Bauer, Obama’s lawyer, to ensure that he was correctly stating things Obama had told him, Bauer told Garrow something very unusual considering the book that launched Obama’s career:
My clearest memory, and there’s nothing officially off the record with Bob, so I think I can say this, and boy, it’s the clearest thing I remember of all my conversations with Bob. … This is close to a quote: “Whatever you do, don’t ask him about his father.”
Samuels noted how odd this was from the author of Dreams from My Father, eliciting from Garrow this stunning statement about a man he’d spoken with personally and whose life he explored in detail: “He’s not normal—as in not a normal politician or a normal human being.”
The interview expands on the letters Alex McNear, Obama’s girlfriend in college, received from Obama. As noted above, it was in those letters that Obama fantasized about sex with men. The passage in the interview about those letters is striking because they reveal that Obama was a narcissist, someone who used people but never connected with them. (The bolded passage is Samuel’s question):
Barack’s love letters to Alex, if they are actually love letters, are hard to read. Not just because they’re so poorly written, but because of the clear lack of any human interest in the person he’s writing to. The letters are completely performative. She may as well have been a tree or some kind of theater backdrop. Maybe all young men are guilty of this fault, but these examples seem pretty egregious.
It’s pretty clear to me, and this is me putting little pieces together with Alex and with Sheila, but I’m 97 percent convinced that Barack either drafted all those letters in his journal and then made them into letters, or he wrote the letters and then copied them into the journal.
According to Garrow, Obama has always kept journals that he will deep six forever. Why? Because “[h]e wants people to believe his story. For me to conclude that Dreams from My Father was historical fiction—oh God, did that infuriate him.”
There’s so much more, and every bit of it is worth reading because it reveals who Obama is and what the mainstream media assiduously ignored and, therefore, hid from the American public. All this still matters, by the way. There’s good reason to believe that Obama, who refused to leave D.C. after his presidency ended (a norm-busting decision that Samuels describes in detail), is calling the shots in the ostensible Biden presidency.
Additionally, as increasing numbers of people fear, there’s a good possibility that, when Biden is pushed out of the campaign, Michelle Obama will be substituted as the Democrat candidate—and she is still considered one of the most popular people in America, especially among two passionate voting demographics; namely, black and white women.

Considering Obama’s open hostility to Israel and later palling around with famous anti-Semites (e.g., Rev. Wright; Obama’s infamous and still hidden tape at a pro-PLO dinner, and Obama’s photo with Farrakhan), her version rings true.
Another revelation was that Obama fantasized about sex with men, which would seem to support the many rumors about his sexuality.
When Garrow interviewed Obama over the course of 8 hours, he impressed Garrow with his focus on the “hilariously inconsequential,” such as insisting that he spoke fluent Indonesian in third grade.
When Garrow spoke with Bob Bauer, Obama’s lawyer, to ensure that he was correctly stating things Obama had told him, Bauer told Garrow something very unusual considering the book that launched Obama’s career:
My clearest memory, and there’s nothing officially off the record with Bob, so I think I can say this, and boy, it’s the clearest thing I remember of all my conversations with Bob. … This is close to a quote: “Whatever you do, don’t ask him about his father.”
Samuels noted how odd this was from the author of Dreams from My Father, eliciting from Garrow this stunning statement about a man he’d spoken with personally and whose life he explored in detail: “He’s not normal—as in not a normal politician or a normal human being.”
The interview expands on the letters Alex McNear, Obama’s girlfriend in college, received from Obama. As noted above, it was in those letters that Obama fantasized about sex with men. The passage in the interview about those letters is striking because they reveal that Obama was a narcissist, someone who used people but never connected with them. Barack’s love letters to Alex, if they are actually love letters, are hard to read. Not just because they’re so poorly written, but because of the clear lack of any human interest in the person he’s writing to. The letters are completely performative. She may as well have been a tree or some kind of theater backdrop. Maybe all young men are guilty of this fault, but these examples seem pretty egregious.
It’s pretty clear to me, and this is me putting little pieces together with Alex and with Sheila, but I’m 97 percent convinced that Barack either drafted all those letters in his journal and then made them into letters, or he wrote the letters and then copied them into the journal.
According to Garrow, Obama has always kept journals that he will deep six forever. Why? Because “[h]e wants people to believe his story. For me to conclude that Dreams from My Father was historical fiction—oh God, did that infuriate him.”
There’s so much more, and every bit of it is worth reading because it reveals who Obama is and what the mainstream media assiduously ignored and, therefore, hid from the American public. All this still matters, by the way. There’s good reason to believe that Obama, who refused to leave D.C. after his presidency ended (a norm-busting decision that Samuels describes in detail), is calling the shots in the ostensible Biden presidency.
Additionally, as increasing numbers of people fear, there’s a good possibility that, when Biden is pushed out of the campaign, Michelle Obama will be substituted as the Democrat candidate—and she is still considered one of the most popular people in America, especially among two passionate voting demographics; namely, black and white women.

To my surprise, Jack Cashill's new book, Unmasking Obama, couldn't be more relevant to the political struggle facing us today. “This was not because of difficulties in securing indictments or convictions. On the contrary, Attorney General Eric Holder told a Senate committee in March of 2013 that the Obama administration chose not to prosecute the big banks or their CEOs because to do so might “have a negative impact on the national economy.”

Since 2008, Barack Obama has been the Democrat party. He was the president who could do no wrong. Every political attack against him was discounted as "racism." He was more charming, more intelligent, more emotionally attuned, more effective, and more just everything good than any man who had ever occupied the White House, including Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln combined. (All of them were racists.)
When Trump came along, the Democrats and their media shills weren't merely offended by his politics. In many ways, the gravest offense was that this loud, combative, conservative-governing orange man dared to step into a White House made hallowed by the presence of a man once hailed as a "magic negro" or another crucified Jesus.
Both Biden and Kamala got reverential treatment, but it was nothing like Obama. Biden was grandfatherly, experienced, kind, and stable, and he'd learned his White House politics under Obama's aegis. Kamala was sold especially hard because everyone understood that Biden, no matter what he said, wasn't in it for the long haul. She was obviously going to be the real president, even before Biden inevitably withdrew and she got sworn in.
But as noted, something's been happening with the Democrats. They should be a jubilant party joyously imposing Marxism on the land, but, instead, they're angry, and they're starting to turn on each other. Just last week, Edward-Isaac Dovere, a longstanding author at The Atlantic, published a nasty attack on Kamala, although one phrased in polite terms.
Through anecdotes and quotes, Dovere reveals that Kamala is anti-social, socially awkward, bland, ineffective, unfocused, platitudinous, uninteresting, hostile to reporters, paranoid (she has an enemies list), and unable to hold onto her employees. None of this surprises me. My decades living and working in the Bay Area meant I'd heard rumors for years saying everything that Kamala offered politically came through her relationship with Willie Brown, a brilliant California politician. Without Brown, she's nothing.
For The Atlantic, one of the most politically loyal outlets in America, to publish such this attack on someone who should be a Democrat darling was surprising. More surprises arrived on Friday when the Daily Mail revealed that Edward-Isaac Dovere is back, this time with a new book describing Obama as a "parasite" sucking the Democrat party dry and leaving it with nothing. Although the book is ostensibly about the 2020 campaign, it's Obama who springs into focus:

Former President Barack Obama warned Friday that the “rule of law is at risk” because former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn will no longer be prosecuted.
Obama’s remarks, leaked from a private conference call with members of something called the “Obama Alumni Association,” show a breathtaking lack of self-awareness.
Obama himself was the threat to the rule of law, both during his presidency and as it ended.
As Breitbart News has previously noted, Obama routinely violated the Constitution’s separation of powers, challenging America’s constitutional foundation in a way no president before him had done in peacetime.
“I’ve got a pen, and I’ve got a phone,” Obama said, threatening to use — and abuse — his executive power — rather than allow the constitutional process of legislation to proceed.
Here are just a few of Obama’s more egregious violations:
· Refusing to submit the Iran deal to the Senate for ratification
· Declaring the Senate in recess when it was not (struck down, later, in a 9-0 Supreme Court decision)
· Defying the courts when told to renew oil and gas activity in the Gulf of Mexico, or to stop giving amnesty to illegal aliens
· Threatening the Supreme Court after Citizens United, and before the Obamacare decision
· Altering Obamacare’s statutory deadline unilaterally
· Creating the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) programs after admitting it was unconstitutional
· Trying to wipe out the coal industry
Moreover, the Flynn investigation itself undermined the rule of law by targeting a man the government knew was innocent of any crime. Similarly, Obama’s own effort to protect Hillary Clinton, and his administration’s attempt to undermine Trump through false allegations of “Russia collusion,” also violated the rule of law.
Last week it emerged that it was Obama himself who told then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates about Flynn’s lawful conversation with the Russian ambassador, which set the investigative wheels in motion.
Obama’s phony protest suggests he is feeling desperate as attention turns, finally, to his own role in the affair.

As Breitbart News has previously noted, Obama routinely violated the Constitution’s separation of powers, challenging America’s constitutional foundation in a way no president before him had done in peacetime.
“I’ve got a pen, and I’ve got a phone,” Obama said, threatening to use — and abuse — his executive power — rather than allow the constitutional process of legislation to proceed.
Here are just a few of Obama’s more egregious violations:
· Refusing to submit the Iran deal to the Senate for ratification
· Declaring the Senate in recess when it was not (struck down, later, in a 9-0 Supreme Court decision)
· Defying the courts when told to renew oil and gas activity in the Gulf of Mexico, or to stop giving amnesty to illegal aliens
· Threatening the Supreme Court after Citizens United, and before the Obamacare decision
· Altering Obamacare’s statutory deadline unilaterally
· Creating the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) programs after admitting it was unconstitutional
· Trying to wipe out the coal industry
Moreover, the Flynn investigation itself undermined the rule of law by targeting a man the government knew was innocent of any crime. Similarly, Obama’s own effort to protect Hillary Clinton, and his administration’s attempt to undermine Trump through false allegations of “Russia collusion,” also violated the rule of law.
Last week it emerged that it was Obama himself who told then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates about Flynn’s lawful conversation with the Russian ambassador, which set the investigative wheels in motion.
Obama’s phony protest suggests he is feeling desperate as attention turns, finally, to his own role in the affair.

It partner with district attorneys to manipulate 'racial disparities' in decisions for criminals. They state their mission is to demolish what they perceive as a 'racist' system. Vera Justice's president, Nick Turner, said, "We work to transform the immigration system because many of the problems that we see in the criminal legal system are just the same in the immigration system. And by transform, what I mean is to shrink both of those systems."
A return to “normalcy' -- really?
I suspect many Democrats, Independents, and perhaps a few Republicans voted for Joe Biden in the last presidential election because they were tired of the “mean tweets” and the erratic behavior (at least as portrayed in the mainstream media) of President Donald J. Trump. Like many naïve creatures, they would prefer to stick their head in the sand and let the world unfold around them. Many were led to think the election of Joe Biden as the nation’s Commander in Chief would return the nation to a state of “normalcy.”
Since he assumed office, President’s Biden’s “normalcy” has included vilifying half of the nations’ electorate as evil MAGA Republicans; opening our once secure borders to a flood of illegal aliens and fentanyl while at the same time providing a booming business to Mexico’s cartels; a disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan promoting Putin to invade Ukraine, which I suspect will also serve as a green light for China to seize Taiwan; “Bidenomics” and with it runaway inflation and a downgrade of the U.S. government's credit rating due to concerns over the state of the country's finances and its debt burden; the frequent tapping of our strategic petroleum reserve to artificially depress consumer gasoline prices etc. etc. If this is the new “normal” I will take the mean tweets any day !
Those of us old enough to live through the Watergate scandal remember that President Richard M. Nixon was not aware of nor authorized the break-in of the Democratic National Committee but rather he attempted to cover it up once the scandal was broken in the Washington Post by reporters Woodward and Bernstein. Rather than face possible impeachment, Nixon resigned and did not put the nation through the turmoil of a prolonged trial in the Senate. After the tumultuous years of the Vietnam conflict, America did not need to be divided again. Like Nixon or not, he made the right and honorable gesture by stepping down for lying while in office.
Similarly, through congressional testimony it is now apparent that Joe Biden has repeatedly not spoken the truth regarding his knowledge of his son Hunter’s business dealing with foreign business interests. Even the left-leaning Washington Post finally acknowledged the most obvious falsehood of the decade: Joe Biden, during the 2020 Presidential Debate, denied his son had made money in China, earning him the Post’s four “Pinocchio’s.” In addition, Hunter’s admission in court, before lawmakers privately interviewed his former business partner Devon Archer, who, according to accounts by both Democrats and Republicans, said that Hunter put his father on speaker phone with business associates about 20 times over the course of a decade. Again, this is in direct contradiction to candidate Biden’s assertion during the debate that he had no knowledge of his son’s business dealings.
So, if the “new normal” is that our nation’s chief executive can lie to the American people I would prefer the mean tweets any day. Perhaps it is time for President Biden to do the honorable thing for the good of the country and step aside aside as did his predecessor in 1974.

Oakland NAACP publishes amazing letter denouncing ‘defund the police’ and Soros DA’s unwillingness to prosecute criminals

The letter copied below just sent by the president of the NAACP chapter in Oakland and by a prominent Black church leader does not name names or political parties, but it is hard hitting, demanding the declaration of a state of emergency and the application of “massive resources” (meaning police and prosecution and incarceration, presumably) to address the out-of-control crime wave that is gripping much of California.
One of the signers, Bishop Bob Jackson, the founder and charismatic senior pastor of Acts Full Gospel Church in Oakland (their website is here), is a man that I have known about and admired for decades. He is a riveting, charismatic preacher. Through friendships with congregants there, I’ve gotten to know the remarkable self-help-with-community-support gospel they follow. The welcome for strangers of any race who attend their services is warm and sincere. The last I heard, everyone there has a job, and if they don’t when they join, they soon do, with lots of help and encouragement. I know from experience that they help each out to succeed in whatever work they pursue.
This letter shows the degree of disgust with the policies Democrats have sold that is bubbling up from the grass roots of the Black community not just in Oakland, but all over the country. The GOP must build on this movement.

In his announcement video Biden said, "In that moment, I knew the threat to this nation was unlike any I had ever seen in my lifetime." He was referring to President Donald Trump's remarks at Charlottesville VA. In a 13 August 2017 tweet Biden wrote, "Three years ago today, white supremacists descended on Charlottesville with torches in hand and hate in their hearts. Our president said they were 'very fine people.' It was clear then, and it's clear now: We are in a battle for the soul of our nation, and we must win."
Trump's remarks had been twisted by the MSM into a malicious lie.
Biden knew what the MSM had done. But he ran with the lie anyway because even though he was a doddering old fool he was an astute politician. 'Battle for the soul of our nation' became a catchphrase he frequently used. Biden spoke in many campaign speeches of being in a 'battle for the soul of the nation.'
Biden said in his inauguration speech, "On this January day, my whole soul is in this: bringing America together." He said unity was required in order to "...restore the soul and to secure the future of America." Biden's comments would have been encouraging had they been true. Biden issued executive orders that angered energy producers, pitted women against men, and blacks against whites, played religious people against secularists, advanced the transgender community, and sacrificed unborn children's rights to the pro-choice crowd.
Fast forward three years. Biden is again running on the lie he morphed into a 'battle for the soul of our nation.' "When I ran for president four years ago, I said we are in a battle for the soul of America. And we still are."
For Biden it has always been about his battle to secure the soul of America for those to whom he sold it.
For George Soros it was about control to gain influence, access, and special treatment. After the election Biden formed a transition team that staffed itself with people connected to Soros.
But his money also played a part. Soros spent over $70 million on activities that backed Biden's candidacy. Soros bought frequent access to Obama. That access returned under Biden.

Stryker's contribution is chump change compared to others (Hiam Saban contributed $1,500,000. That's the same Hiam Saban who combined with George Soros to contribute $3 million to Hillary Clinton), but it illustrates where Stryker's heart is.
Arcus contributed to two religious-based groups to convince church-goers and pastors to support same-sex couples having the legal right to marry. It focused its social justice initiatives upon groups which address LGBT+ issues. Arcus’ LGBT+-related activities gave $75,000 to Advocates for Informed Choice, an advocacy group for transgender and gender-nonconforming people.
To satiate the LGTBQ+ crowd and placate Jon Stryker, Biden issued a proclamation to make 31 March 2023 the Transgender Day of Visibility. He stated, "Transgender Americans shape our Nation's soul -- proudly serving in the military, curing deadly diseases, holding elected office, running thriving businesses, fighting for justice, raising families, and much more."
Planned Parenthood, with over 60% of its federal funding coming from patients who rely upon public health programs like Medicaid and Title X for their preventive and primary care, is yet an other example. Planned Parenthood gave $45 million to Biden's campaign, a threefold increase over its 2016 presidential campaign contributions. Biden, while campaigning, promised to overturn the Trump administration's pro-life policies and to have abortion rights incorporated into federal law.
Does Biden believe these people and organizations that got him elected won't demand repayment?
Biden selected, on seventeen occasions, people for his transition teams who worked for organizations founded or funded by Soros. Biden picked these individuals for teams at the State Department, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, U.S. Mission to the U.N., Department of Defense, Department of Labor, Department of the Interior, Department of the Treasury, Federal Reserve, Banking and Securities Regulators, National Security Council, Office of the US Trade Representative, and Department of Veterans Affairs.
Soros' son Alexander, chair of the Open Society Foundations, gained access to the White House at least twelve times in 2022, including a visit on December 1 with Nina Srivastava, advisor to Ron Klain, Biden's Chief of Staff. Four other past or present Open Society Foundations bigwigs have racked up a combined 33 private White House meetings in less than two years. Tom Perriello, director of Open Society Foundations' U.S. operation gained access seventeen times in 2021, including a December 15 meeting with Rachel Chiu, head of the White House's Office of Political Strategy, and with White House Associate Director of Strategic Outreach Sabrina Bousbar. He met on December 2 with John Podesta, Biden's senior advisor for clean energy innovation and implementation.
An inappropriate relationship between Biden and Soros is reported by investigative journalist Matt Palumbo in his forthcoming book, The Man Behind the Curtain: Inside the Secret Network of George Soros. According to Palumbo, the relationship gives Soros direct influence over Biden's White House and State Department. Once the relationship became public, Representative Lee Zeldin (R-NY) requested information from Secretary of State Anthony Blinken (a Soros man) regarding State Department sanctions against former Albanian president Sali Berisha, a vociferous enemy of Soros.
It's been five months since I made my original request, which is substantially more than enough time to adequately respond.
This is now my third request for additional information since raising the issue of sanctioning Sali Berisha with Secretary Blinken during the June 7, 2021 House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing.
It is unacceptable and suspicious that the Department of State has not sufficiently fulfilled this request for additional information in a timely manner and has instead chosen to slow-walk a Congressional request for transparency.
Health and Human Services awarded Vera a contract for $158 million to "...provide immigration related legal services to unaccompanied minors so they can avoid deportation." The Department of Justice awarded Vera $290 million over the last 12 months to help illegal immigrants avoid deportation.
I'm certain this is only the tip of the iceberg.

George Soros: A New Kind of Tyrant?
The venomous careers of Hitler and Stalin provoked the study of totalitarian regimes as the very epitome of evil, depriving their citizens of freedom and of life itself. A state captured by a demagogue is considered a sure sign of danger ahead -- hence the alleged justification by the Left for their hysteria over “rabble rouser” Donald Trump’s election. Overlooked until more recently are the unelected, bloated bureaucratic fiefdoms and regulatory encroachments of both national and global government and non-governmental institutions, which have created the opportunity for a sinister, large scale violation of political power.
This new abuse was foreshadowed in the career of FBI architect and director, the corrupt J. Edgar Hoover. It has been notched up to a planetary level of hyper-coordination by George Soros as preliminary to the installation of his global Open Society. In this grandiose plan, state governments (specifically the USA) will be reduced to the level of relay stations for a supranational, Sauron-like centralization of power.
What unites the totalitarian and the new tyrant are three personality characteristics, proposed by Professor John D. Mayer in his 1993 article, “The Emotional Madness of the Dangerous Leader.” The first is indifference. The tyrant is consumed by a single-minded, fanatical purpose and has no regard for the suffering wreaked on others during its implementation. The second is intolerance of those whose opinions differ, facilitated through control of the media, secret and insider knowledge, revenge against anyone who thwarts, and a paranoid mania to shut down all opposition. The third character trait (the foundation of the previous two), is psychopathic grandiosity. The power-abuser assumes a messianic pose of unifying society under a utopian plan and persuading others to participate. The very intensity of the tyrant’s narcissism is transferred to vulnerable supporters eliciting a narcotic rush of enthusiasm.
What is easily overlooked is that the sham scheme is not a political health remedy, but a device for maintaining the megalomaniac’s sense of personal omnipotence. In Soros’ own words, “Next to my fantasies about being God, I also have very strong fantasies of being mad. In fact, my grandfather was actually paranoid.” Soros seems disarming in his frankness. But delusions of grandeur preclude self-knowledge, as Soros’ next statements reveal. “I have a lot of madness in my family. So far I have escaped it.”
Soros has spilled bucketloads of words proclaiming he is “amoral,” “self-interested,” and that “normal rules do not apply” to him. “I am unnatural. I am a sort of deux ex machina. I’m very comfortable with my public persona, because it is the one I have created myself.” And this from the man who controls politicians and bureaucrats like a boss giving dictation to his secretary. This is the man who has perfected the subversion of governments, who has robbed failing states, and lavishly endowed every organization and movement destructive of traditional Western society, from abolishing the Electoral College to abolishing life itself if it is in utero, drug-addicted, or senile. His ambition is without borders -- “The Soviet Empire is now the Soros Empire.” “I’m the Pope’s boss now.” And so on, ad nauseum. Yet, like other tyrants, he is untouchable. Those he has made richer and more powerful protect him.

The Left has no new ideas. Like Hollywood, it makes old ideas seem new by rebooting them, by making them appear hip and trendy, and by destroying a meaningful connection with the past. And that way audiences don’t realize they’re just seeing the same movie remade over again. What might be creative bankruptcy in a movie theater is a more seriously sisyphean problem described by Churchill as, “Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.”
But how does a new generation learn from a past that isn’t allowed to exist on its own terms?
Demonizing the past is a convenient way of obscuring it. The only thing students are taught about the past is that it was a horrible time, its people backward, its customs savage, its learning wicked, its institutions racist, and its ideas horrifying. In postmodern history, the past exists only as a cautionary tale gleaned for historical struggles that fit into the new narrative.
History is an incomplete present whose revolutions were never fully fulfilled. It’s a revolutionary story of a world ruled by villains until they were overthrown by the forces of good. And this revolution against history must continue until all of the past is negated by the present.
The destruction of statues and burning of books forces ‘presentism’ for the past to conform to the dogmas of the moment. The biggest problem with the past isn’t that it’s politically incorrect, but that it’s repeating itself. The Black Lives Matter movement transparently harkens back to the 70s. So do most of the radical social impulses in which the Left cloaks its real power agenda.
The revolutionary chaos is doomed to fail again, but each oscillation breaks the country more.

A proper Marxist regime has little use for militant minorities, feminism, gay rights, police defunding, transgender bathrooms, pipeline protests, abortion, or any of the other issues the radicals have been using to waste our time. The Russian Futurists vowed to throw the art and literature of the past overboard from the “steamship of modernity”. The Soros Plan To Flip Legislatures For Redistricting Is Moving Forward

Democrats are readying a massive $50 million effort of their own to shape the next 10 years of elections by flipping state legislative chambers in places as red as Texas and West Virginia next November.
The plan, backed by Democratic megadonors like Donald Sussman and the Soros family as well as small-dollar donors giving online via ActBlue, represents a sea change for the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, a former backwater in Democratic politics that has transformed as the party grappled with the importance of redistricting. In 2020, the last election before states redraw their political boundaries using new Census data, the winners of many state legislatures get the power to draw congressional lines that will last an entire decade.
Data that, thanks to Dem judges and Justice Roberts, will be fundamentally fraudulent.
In preparation, the DLCC has quadrupled its staff, partnered with a slew of other large Democratic groups including EMILY’s List and Barack Obama’s National Democratic Redistricting Committee, and planned to target as many as 14 states, according to plans shared first with POLITICO. The group will start by targeting one or more chambers in Arizona, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Texas, and potentially expand over the course of the election to target additional legislative chambers in Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Montana, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
The DLCC is chiefly targeting states where flipping just a handful of seats will give Democrats a seat at the governing table in 2021. Six target states are currently under full Republican control, with Democrats locked out of both the governorship and state legislative majorities. And the group is particularly interested in states where state lawmakers have absolute power over the congressional maps and the governor has little influence, like North Carolina.
Republicans have disclosed relatively few details about how they plan to win 2020’s pre-redistricting elections. Their central committee, the Republican State Leadership Committee — which helps elect lieutenant governors and other officeholders in addition to state legislators — recently announced it raised $19 million in 2019. The group has also recruited former House Speakers Paul Ryan, John Boehner and Newt Gingrich to help its efforts.

Soros-Linked Group Gets Six GOP Governors to Resettle More Refugees
A pro-mass immigration organization with links to billionaire George Soros has successfully lobbied six Republican governors to resettle more refugees in their states.
For Fiscal Year 2020, President Donald Trump will continue cutting refugee admissions by reducing former President Barack Obama’s refugee inflow by at least 80 percent. This reduction would mean a maximum of 18,000 refugees can be resettled in the U.S. between October 1, 2019, and September 30, 2020. This is merely a numerical limit and not a goal federal officials are supposed to reach.
Coupled with the refugee reduction, Trump signed an executive order that gives localities, counties, and states veto power over whether they want to resettle refugees in their communities.
Executives at World Relief and the Evangelical Immigration Table — an organization with links to the Soros-funded National Immigration Forum — have been lobbying governors across the country to bring more refugees to their states. So far, six Republican governors have signed off to resettle refugees in their states, including North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey.
The New York Times notes:
Jenny Yang, vice president for advocacy at World Relief, an evangelical agency whose work includes resettlement, has been steering an effort to lobby governors to keep their states open to refugees. [Emphasis added]
She said about 16 governors have submitted written consent, six of them Republicans. Gov. Doug Ducey, Republican of Arizona, agreed after receiving a letter supporting resettlement signed by 250 evangelical leaders. Gov. Greg Abbott, Republican of Texas, who leads the state that received the most refugees last year, has not yet offered his view, despite a plea from the mayor of Fort Worth to continue accepting refugees. Refugee contractors, like the Lutheran Social Services organization, have deployed a campaign to get mayors, local officials, and governors to admit more refugees to their states. Those contractors’ budgets every year are reliant on ensuring that as many refugees are resettled across the U.S. as possible.

Joe Biden increased pathways for migrants into the U.S. -- only to create a new border surge
Once upon a time, New York City's top urban planning strongman, Robert Moses, built highways and bridges across and into New York City, aiming to stop traffic congestion.
And more of them. And more. Moses is why New York City has the Triborough Bridge, the Brooklyn-Battery Link, Interstate 278, the Cross Bronx Expressway, and many other passageways. He built them all, and then he built some more.
And as every journalism student, having read Robert Caro's The Power Broker, would know, Moses was astonished. Instead of less traffic coming into Manhattan from the outer boroughs and beyond -- there was more. Manhattan became more traffic-congested than ever as a result, and lots of neighborhoods were ruined, too, divided and corrupted by the roaring overhead highways.
This curiously corresponds exactly to what we are seeing at the border right now -- a new migrant surge, coming in the wake of Joe Biden's expansion of what he claims are new, expanded, legal pathways for illegal immigrants to get into the country solely on their claims to asylum.
According to the Border Report:
McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) – Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents report recently encountering five large groups of 648 migrants on the South Texas border, a massive uptick since the lifting of Title 42.

But well, now they are. The old border surges are back, ready for the television cameras again, just as Joe Biden and his minions have gotten done crowing about how Biden solved the border crisis.
Observers of city planning have a word for this: The Congestion Paradox, brought on by what's known as "induced demand." When you build more roads, you get more, not less, traffic.
According to a very good unnamed writer at The Generalist Academy:
Moses built many bridges and roads with the goal of alleviating congestion in New York. However, every time a new bridge was built, traffic did not improve. Instead, people who normally wouldn’t drive switched from public transport to cars. People who wouldn’t normally make the trip decided that now it was worth it. More roads = more traffic.
Now, the fact that people were observing this back in the 1940s doesn’t change the fact that people keep insisting that more roads will solve traffic problems. And I understand why: it makes intuitive sense. It’s just mostly wrong. The technical term for this is “induced demand” – as in, by building roads you’re inducing more demand for roads.
The Wikipedia entry on Induced Demand has many important technical economic details for why this always happens, brought on by short-term and long-term variables.
But the conclusion is this:
A 2004 meta-analysis, which took in dozens of previously published studies, confirmed this. It found that:
...on average, a 10 percent increase in lane miles induces an immediate 4 percent increase in vehicle miles travelled, which climbs to 10 percent – the entire new capacity – in a few years.
An aphorism among some traffic engineers is "Trying to cure traffic congestion by adding more capacity is like trying to cure obesity by loosening your belt."
Its roughly correspond to the old economic adage that if you tax something less, you get more of it, and if you tax something more, you get less of it.
It's the same dynamic with roads -- and now immigration pathways -- because human nature is always going to be human nature.
Joe Biden has repeated the Moses mistake in spades by increasing "legal" pathways for entry into the U.S. from people who shun ordinary immigration procedures. Unlike Pete Buttigieg, whose "racist highways" claims were clearly bowdlerized from Caro's book, Biden doesn't read these kinds of books. He doesn't even care, because what he does want is more illegal immigrants coming into the country, and this serves his aim perfectly.
He's instituted pathway after pathway for them, starting with something called CBPOne, a mobile app for getting appointments for entry into the U.S. from countries such as Haiti and Venezuela if someone already has a relative in the country to serve as sponsor. If you are that first person, bravo, all your relatives can now come into the country. If you are not, you've got the border to cross in order to open that pathway to the rest of your family, village, or tribe. Recent reports say the acceptance rate for these applicants is 100%.
Biden's also set up migrant service centers, through Central America and now even Colombia, to provide even more pathways for migrants to get in. The migrants accepted from this pathway are reportedly bussed into the states under cover of darkness, in buses paid for by the federal government. Those migrants get in, too.
He's also sued the state of Texas, which has set up inflatable border barriers along the Rio Grande to stop migrant traffic, apparently for the migrants' own safety. Because a few unwise migrants have attempted to ignore these barriers and got themselves killed in the harsh currents of the river, Texas's governor is now being branded a human rights violator in the loopy newspeak coming from the Bidens, and the Bidenites of course are suing him.
More passages, more migrants. And these aren't the only new passages Biden's set up, catch-and-release is still very much in operation, too, as well as other means of getting in.
Now after a quiet period dating from these new pathways to immigration into the states, the border surges are back.
Moses at least, could be reliably have been said to have made a mistake in calculating that new passageways would create less trafffic.
Joe Biden has no such excuse -- the information is out there and has been there for years, while his own transportation secretary, Pete Buttigieg, has clearly read the book.
I remember this detail well from my own journalism-school reading (we had to read this book during the preceding summer) and I think it's still required reading.
Biden bragged loudly about opening more legal pathways for migrants to get in, and now the verdict is in -- we are getting those pathways -- along with a second border surge as a result of those pathways, owing to the fact that hundreds of millions of people around the world would like to get into the U.S. and see their chance now. The increased pathways not only filled up quickly and left the illegal immigration totals the same as before, they freed up the border for even more illegal entrants, just as all of Moses's highways filled up the more he constructed additional ones. That is bound to at raise the illegal immigration into the U.S. beyond even its current records, even as cities affected, at the border and in the blue-city destinations, are at breaking points.
It's coming. It's reached the 10% point, as described in the Wikipedia passage. The Big Guy always was about ten percent, and this emerging event is just another demonstration of it.

Exclusive: Biden’s Migrant Detention Facilities Exceed Capacity as Border Crossings Increase — Again
The Border Patrol is again facing overcrowding issues in several migrant detention facilities along the southwest border, according to a source within Customs and Border Protection. The source says the return of increasing numbers of large migrant group crossings is spurred by migrants’ frustration with the functionality of the CBP-One application. Daily migrant detention numbers exceeded 17,000 in recent weeks according to the source.
The source, not authorized to speak to the media, says daily migrant apprehension numbers peaked at nearly 6,000 per day during the week. At one Border Patrol facility near Eagle Pass, Texas, once the epicenter of the current border crisis, more than 2,000 migrants are being held. The temporary detention facility at this location is designed to hold 1,000 migrants, the source indicated.
On Friday, Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez reported more than 1,000 migrants were apprehended near La Grulla, Texas, in a single 24-hour period. During the first three days of August, RGV agents apprehended nearly 4,400 migrants, according to a law enforcement source.
On Wednesday, Chief Patrol Agent John Modlin of the Tucson Sector reported the apprehension of several large migrant groups encountered near Lukeville, Arizona over the previous weekend. The largest single group consisted of 533 migrants from 17 different countries. Tucson Sector agents apprehended 5,061 migrants during the first three days of August, a law enforcement source reported.
The CBP source told Breitbart Texas that migrant apprehensions in July stood at slightly more than 132,000, up from the 99,545 migrant apprehensions made along the southwest border in June, a 33% increase. During the first four days of August, agents in the nine southwest border sectors apprehended more than 17,000 migrants, the law enforcement report indicates.
The source says many of the migrants in detention cited frustration not being able to quickly acquire an appointment for admission under the Biden Administration’s CBP-One application as the reason for crossing between the ports of entry. The migrants in detention cannot be processed fast enough to avoid overcrowding, the source added.
Thousands of mostly single adult migrants from the Northern Triangle Central American countries of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador are lingering in overcrowded detention centers as ICE Air cannot remove the migrants fast enough to ease the overcrowding, the source explained.
Nationals of these three countries were rapidly expelled to Mexico under the CDC Title 42 authority that expired in May. President Donald Trump’s Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP), also known as the Remain in Mexico policy, provided quick relief as Northern Triangle migrants could be quickly expelled to Mexico. These two Trump-era programs are no longer an option to stave off overcrowding.
Between October and June, more than 294,000 migrants from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador were arrested by the Border Patrol after entering between ports of entry. Of that total, more than 286,000 were single adult males.
According to CBP, the daily average in June was nearly 1,000 migrant arrests of nationals from these three countries alone. The source says the pace of Northern Triangle migrant arrests overshadows the agency’s ability to keep up through removal flights.
“ICE Air can move up to 500 migrants per day to Central America, so long as there are no flight cancellations,” the source told Breitbart Texas. “That means hundreds will be detained for the next round of flights. With apprehensions starting to surge again, the overcrowding will only worsen.”
Aviation tracking software shows two ICE Air flights were destined for Guatemala and two others headed for El Salvador on Friday. The repatriation flights are conducted by Swift Air LLC, part of the iAero group, a private company under contract to ICE to transport migrants within the United States and conduct international repatriation flights.
The Swift Air fleet consists mostly of Boeing 737s — some capable of carrying up to 162 passengers.

The Biden administration has forged an alliance with the trade union bureaucracy to suppress strikes and hold down wages. This was shown at Yellow Freight, where the Teamsters union blocked a strike in order to ensure that the bankruptcy went ahead smoothly.
As a result of decades of betrayals by the trade union bureaucracy, the ratio of CEO pay to worker pay is at its second highest level in history, 272-1, according to the Economic Policy Institute. Meanwhile, productivity gains have outpaced wage rises by a ratio of 3.7-1 over the past 40 years, a period that has seen a vast enrichment of the super wealthy and a massive growth in social inequality.
Employment report for July shows decline in US job creation under impact of rate hikes
The US employment report for July released Friday showed that 187,000 jobs were created last month, fewer than the 200,000 that had been predicted. The news initially sent stock prices higher, as investors welcomed the indication that continuing interest rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve were beginning to deflate the demand for labor and undercut workers’ wage demands.
However, stocks fell in the late afternoon on reports of lower revenue for Apple. Stock prices were down overall for the week in the wake of Fitch’s downgrade of the US long term credit rating and a rate hike by the Bank of England.
The response of Wall Street once gain illustrates the socially retrograde nature of capitalism, where bad news for working people is considered a positive development by financial markets.
This view was expressed bluntly last week by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, who said at a press conference, “What we’re looking for is a broad cooling in labor market conditions, and that’s what we’re seeing... By so many indicators, labor market demand is cooling.”
The jobs numbers do not reflect recent events, such as the bankruptcy of Yellow Freight, which overnight threw 30,000 out of work.
Despite the efforts of the Fed to undercut the ability of workers to press for wage increases, strike activity has risen in 2023, according to the Cornell University labor action tracker. While there were 17 strikes involving more than 2,000 workers in the year before July 31, 2022, this year that number has risen to 22. Over the most recent 12-month period, there have been 407 strikes at 656 locations, a 12 percent rise.
The Fed has persisted with its policy of interest rate rises despite a pronounced decline in inflation and the threat posed to the massively leveraged banking system by higher credit costs. Three of the four largest bank failures in US history took place this year due to the interest rate increases, which have caused a devaluation of US government securities held by banks as reserves.
However, the consensus in the markets is that things are not nearly bad enough for the working class. The report showed that wage growth continued at a 4.4 percent annual clip in July, too low to make up for years of cuts in real wages, but still too high as far as Wall Street is concerned.
The monthly employment report by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics showed a sharp fall in hiring by temporary help companies as well as retail trade and tech and information services. A cutback in temp hiring is a sign of a slowing economy. The number hours worked in July was also down, another sign of a slowing economy.
Employment in the key construction sector remained steady, while residential construction slowed under the impact of rising interest rates. Nonresidential construction increased, likely due to government handouts to corporations aimed at spurring electric vehicle production. The official unemployment rate fell slightly to 3.5 percent, near an historic low.
Investors took the slowdown in hiring as an indication that the US central bank may pause its interest rate increases at its next meeting on September 19-20. Since March of 2022, the Fed has raised interest rates a total of 11 times, driving rates to their highest level in 22 years.
While the rate hikes have been carried out in the name of fighting inflation, the real target is the working class. The rate hikes are part of a deliberate policy by the Biden administration aimed at driving up the unemployment rate to weaken the working class and undercut the growing strike movement in the US, which is part of a counteroffensive of the international working class spurred by record inflation. Wall Street wants to impose the cost of the massive Wall Street bailouts and the expanding war drive of US imperialism on the workers.
The interest rate increases are already having an impact on workers’ lives by driving up the cost of everything from home mortgages and car loans to credit card debt. On top of this comes the ending of the moratorium on student loan debt, with collections due to resume in September.
One of the clearest manifestations of the impact of this reactionary assault on the working class is the bankruptcy declaration by Yellow Freight earlier this week, an action that overnight threw 30,000 workers out of jobs. Given that half of Yellow’s $1.6 billion debt was held by the US government, the bankruptcy was a calculated decision by the Biden administration, undoubtedly coordinated with the Teamsters union bureaucracy.
The Biden administration has forged an alliance with the trade union bureaucracy to suppress strikes and hold down wages. This was shown at Yellow Freight, where the Teamsters union blocked a strike in order to ensure that the bankruptcy went ahead smoothly.
At UPS, the Teamsters have delivered a sellout contract tailored to the needs of management. The deal provides below-inflation pay raises and freezes the company’s contributions to pension plans covering the majority of drivers.
As a result of decades of betrayals by the trade union bureaucracy, the ratio of CEO pay to worker pay is at its second highest level in history, 272-1, according to the Economic Policy Institute. Meanwhile, productivity gains have outpaced wage rises by a ratio of 3.7-1 over the past 40 years, a period that has seen a vast enrichment of the super wealthy and a massive growth in social inequality.
Hundreds of asylum seekers forced to sleep on New York City’s sidewalks for days
The rightwing Democratic mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, has allowed the housing of tens of thousands of migrants in the United States’ largest city to deteriorate so rapidly that hundreds of them were forced to sleep on the sidewalk in front of the Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown Manhattan for over a week.
The 1,000-room hotel, closed for three years, has been reopened by the Adams administration and functions as an induction center for migrants arriving in the city. Hundreds of migrants last weekend were told that there was no space in the hotel and they would have to wait on the sidewalk until rooms opened up. As more and more arrived, they were forced to live and sleep rough in front of the hotel.
Volunteers gave them meals and water. Police and a COVID-testing agency, hired by the mayor, managed the refugees in one of the most crowded urban spaces in the United States. Migrants in the blistering heat were offered a chance to cool off in air-conditioned vans, where some of them eventually slept.
Adams appeared at the hotel on Thursday night and was heckled by passersby, who told him to solve the problem. Migrants were placed on buses later that evening.
Over 95,000 migrants have arrived in the city since May when the federal pandemic restrictions at the US borders were lifted. Most are asylum-seekers fleeing political persecution or economic or environmental disaster in their home countries, which range from those in Latin America to the Middle East and West Africa. Some 2,300 migrants arrived last month and approximately 200 continued to arrive each day, most from the US-Mexico border.
The city’s shelter system is overwhelmed with over 56,000 migrants living there in addition to tens of thousands of other homeless families. The city has opened 194 ad hoc shelters in gyms, hotels, parking lots and warehouses. But none of these is enough. “There is no more room,” Adams told a press conference earlier this week, adding, “It’s not going to get better.”
Refugees complained to the media that they were served frozen food and, during a sharp uptick in COVID-19 infections in the city, the Adams administration has not provided migrants with masks or any other mitigation measure in conditions in which migrants are crowded cheek-to jowl.
The crisis is so overwhelming that the city has apparently floated the idea of housing migrants in tents in Central Park. “Everything is on the table,” Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Anne Williams-Isom told a press conference on Wednesday, including not only Central Park in Manhattan but Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. Williams-Isom added: “We think that the system is at a breaking point.”
New York City is the only large municipality in the United States that has a right-to-shelter law, which obligates the city to provide shelter for anyone who is homeless. In May, the Adams administration petitioned a New York court to relax some of the right-to-shelter strictures. While the case is still pending, the National Lawyers Guild and the New York Coalition for the homeless announced on Thursday that they would take the city to court to enforce the law.
In a joint statement, the organizations said, “Last night, we petitioned the court to schedule an emergency conference requesting judicial intervention to protect the health and safety of our clients who face immense risk due to the City’s failure to comply with the Callahan consent decree.”
Callahan is the 1981 legal settlement made by the New York County Supreme Court that mandates the city to shelter those in need of housing—a necessary and democratic ruling. The conference was scheduled to take place on Friday.
Adams, unable to immediately flout the law has limited single adults to a 60-day stay in city-provided housing.
Last month, the city issued fliers in English and Spanish, to be distributed at the US-Mexico border that read, in part: “There is no guarantee we will be able to provide shelter and services to new arrivals. Please consider another city as you make your decision about where to settle in the U.S.” National Guard troops at the border, who process asylum seekers, refused to hand them out, saying they had no orders from their superiors to do so.
Since the beginning of the crisis in May, Adams has sought to offload as many refugees as possible to upstate cities and towns, in some cases inspiring fascist-minded resistance from local officials. Last month, the New York Times revealed that the COVID-testing company hired for $432 million to oversee the migrants, DocGo, not only had been award a contract by the city without a bidding process but that its staff repeatedly threatened migrants whom the company bused to Albany, New York state’s capital.
The capitalist media has attributed Adams’ allowing migrants to sleep on sidewalks as a cynical ploy to force the federal government into giving the city more aid. The Biden administration has promised a mere $135 million in aid.
In fact, much deeper issues are involved. In the first place, there are few guarantees that migrant workers, like over half longer-term residents of the city, can afford to live there. The average cost of rent is now over $4,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and the vacancy rate for “affordable” housing stands at less than 1 percent. Asylum seekers are legally unable to seek employment for the first six months of their stay in the US, making it impossible for them to afford New York rents.
More fundamentally, the cost of feeding and sheltering migrants has upended the plans of the mayor to impose massive austerity in the city budget. The pittance offered by the Biden administration is little more than a demand to the city—that is, to the local Democratic Party politicians—to make massive budget cuts in the coming months and years. The gesture is reminiscent of the famous 1975 newspaper headline when the federal government under President Gerald Ford refused to bail out New York City during its bankruptcy crisis: “Ford to City: Drop Dead.”
Conditions are more dire than they were 48 years ago. Not only is New York City over $100 billion in debt, but the war in Ukraine and the preparations for war with China—the main foreign policy goals of American imperialism—demand the smashing of the standard of living for the working class.
Austerity is non-negotiable in the eyes of the ruling class. Strikes must be illegalized, as the Democrats did with a potential railway strike last year, fully abetted by New York City’s Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Democratic rights are a luxury in conditions like these. The fact that the New York police and staff from DocGo attempted to prevent reporters from the New York Times and the New York Post from speaking with migrants in front of the Roosevelt Hotel this week is a small but telling sign of things to come.
Adams, a right-wing and unabashed shill of the bankers and real estate magnates, has been devoted to implementing austerity, but was unable to immediately put into it effect in the recent Fiscal Year 2024 budget which registered an increase in spending—in large part because the anger of the working class, particularly educators and other city workers as well as transit workers, is so intense. The United States is in the midst of the largest strike wave in decades and Democrats, mainly on the City Council, made an agreement with Adams to wait.
Although some critical programs were cut and city workers were given below-inflation “raises,” state agencies have noted that Adams will be forced to slash the budget by billions in the next year and the can was essentially kicked down the road, and, therefore, only preparing a larger social explosion in the next months and years.
From the point of view of human need, there is no shortage of clean, safe and unoccupied places for people to live in New York City, both for migrants and for longer-term residents. New York City has been in the middle of an unabated luxury condo building boom for years.
The city’s own Housing and Vacancy Survey, published last year, found that 10 percent of Manhattan apartments are vacant. There is moreover, because of remote work during the pandemic, an exceptionally high vacancy rate in commercial real estate. The funds to convert these, too, quickly into housing exist in the bank accounts of New York’s 107 billionaires and its many multimillionaires.
But no Democratic politician, including those of the Democratic Socialists of America, in his or her wildest dreams would consider violating the holy of holies, big real estate and its investments, by housing workers in these spaces.
The plight of migrants, nevertheless, has caused no small concern in the ruling class, a section of which supports the import of cheap labor. More fundamentally, though, there is rising concern that Adams is not handling things well and that his treatment of refugees may ignite larger opposition within the already hostile working class in the city.
On Thursday, the New York Times published an op-ed by one of its editorial board members, Mara Gay, who compared Adams to the fascistic Republican governor of Texas, Greg Abbot, who routinely buses migrant out of this state—often to New York City.
Adams says, falsely and nervously: “I have taken extraordinary measures to shelter and care for asylum seekers.”
But he would rather expel the refugees from New York if he could, or, barring that, make life as miserable as possible. That is exactly what he is seeking to do, and in that he represents a definite political constituency in the ruling elite that wants to hasten austerity as much as possible.
In fact, extraordinary measures are necessary to resolve the housing crisis in the United States. Migrants and all the homeless must be housed immediately. But the Democratic Party cannot be pressured to resolve the housing problem.
Emergency aid to the homeless and to migrant workers must be part of a program of the working class, independent of the capitalist parties, to put all empty housing owned by the super-rich and big real estate firms to use as a first step to resolving the housing crisis.
Independent neighborhood committees in working class areas that include both migrant and native-born workers, and rank-and-file committees at workplaces must be built as the only organizations that can implement this program.
Biden Admin Waives More Migrants Through Southern Border Than Promised
An average of 1,473 migrants were released into U.S. per day during July
The Biden administration is ignoring its own limits on asylum seekers, allowing more to enter the United States than it said it would, internal Department of Homeland Security data obtained by the Washington Free Beacon show.
Customs and Border Protection waived through 45,662 migrants with the CBP One mobile application in the month of July, an average of 1,473 a day. Customs and Border Protection dramatically expanded the app’s parameters in May after the end of the public health measure Title 42—which gave immigration authorities power to promptly deport migrants—but limited the amount of daily appointments to 1,000 a day. The number of daily appointments was later expanded to 1,250 and then 1,450 at the end of June. But the data from the Department of Homeland Security show immigration officials are not honoring that limit either.
The figures raise serious questions about President Joe Biden's proposals to fix the border crisis, which is the worst in the nation's history. The United States saw more than 2.76 million illegal border crossings in the 2022 fiscal year alone, compared with the Trump administration's annual high of roughly 1.6 million. Although the average daily surplus in CBP One appointments is roughly 23 migrants, that translates to nearly 8,400 annually at a time when cities are struggling to house and feed a surge of new arrivals. New York City, for example, entered into a $275 million contract with hotels to shelter just 5,000 migrants and its mayor Eric Adams (D.) says its city has "no space" left.
Customs and Border Protection did not respond to a request for comment.
The CBP One app allows migrants to apply for asylum remotely on their phone as a way to streamline the asylum process and bring order to the southern border. Republicans such as Rep. Clay Higgins (La.) have criticized CBP One as part of a "shell game" that merely reclassifies would-be illegal border crossers and releases them into the U.S. interior.
But Biden in January touted the CBP One app as part of a "new process" that "is orderly … safe … and humane. And it works." Those who are not approved on the app, Biden said, would be immediately deported.
"And let me say it again: The actions we’re announcing today will make things better—will make things better but will not fix the border problem completely," Biden said.
The news of the nearly 46,000 CBP One admissions comes as the southern border saw a 50 percent increase in illegal crossings in July compared with June, according to the Washington Post. Law enforcement arrested more than 130,000 illegal aliens along the Mexico border last month, the paper reported, a period that traditionally sees a dip in crossings given the extreme heat.
"The short term effects of the many legal pathways Biden has pushed to curb illegal immigration are failing," one senior Department of Homeland Security official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told the Washington Free Beacon. "One can only wonder what changes are coming to bring more would-be illegal aliens in legally. The slippery slope ends at open borders."
The Biden administration initially took a victory lap after a brief decrease in southern border crossings at the end of Title 42, crediting its CBP One app. In a statement to the Washington Post, a spokesman for Customs and Border Protection blamed the subsequent increase in illegal border crossings on "disinformation" from smugglers who are continuing to lure migrants across the border with the promise that they will not be deported.
Both Republican-led states and immigration activists have filed lawsuits against the Biden administration’s recent immigration policies. Those lawsuits could spell doom for the CBP One app. Republicans allege it is an illegal power grab, while liberal groups have said the penalties for migrants who are denied on the app are too harsh.
A federal judge in California struck down many of the regulations governing CBP One app in July. The Department of Justice said it would appeal the ruling.
California's Homelessness Policy Is a Disaster. Biden Wants to Replicate It.
Dem admin invests $3 billion into programs that pursue Golden State's failed 'Housing First' policies
California's homeless population has skyrocketed since the state adopted housing policies that critics say enable drug users and fail to treat the mentally ill. Now, the Biden administration is spending more than $3 billion to replicate those policies.
President Joe Biden's Department of Housing and Urban Development in July announced its investment in so-called Housing First programs, which subsidize rent costs for those living on the street but do not impose drug or mental health treatment requirements. California adopted those programs in 2016 and has since seen its homeless population steadily grow. Last year, for example, California was home to 30 percent of the nation's homeless people, despite Californians making up less than 12 percent of the U.S. population. From 2020 to 2022, California's homeless population increased by roughly 6 percent, a rate 15 times higher than the rest of the country.
Biden, during his 2020 campaign, presented himself as a run-of-the-mill Democrat who would restore "normalcy" to America. After taking office, however, Biden has in many cases mirrored California—perhaps the nation's most liberal state—on policy. After California banned the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035, for example, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm credited the state for inspiring her to "move faster and further" toward a green energy transition. The Biden administration went on to introduce environmental proposals that effectively force automakers to sell electric cars over their gas-powered counterparts.
Housing First programs have failed the Golden State, experts told the Washington Free Beacon, because they exclude treatment requirements for issues that commonly plague the homeless, such as substance abuse and mental illness. As a result, homeless people who receive housing subsidies often continue using drugs and fail to become independent, Manhattan Institute senior fellow Stephen Eide argued.
"Other problems are left as sort of afterthoughts, and nothing much ends up being done about them at all," Eide told the Free Beacon. "In practice, actually, this looks a lot more like 'Housing Only' than 'Housing First.'"
The Department of Housing and Urban Development did not return a request for comment.
Californians have soured on Housing First since it formally became the state's strategy to combat homelessness in 2016, Eide said. After the strategy's adoption, the number of unsheltered homeless people in California grew, prompting Eide to call Housing First a "failed strategy."
"The communities that were most passionate about Housing First invested the most money into it—California most notably—and the results were not very impressive," he said.
American Enterprise Institute senior fellow Howard Husock echoed Eide, saying Housing First is "built on false premises."
"If you put people with substance abuse problems and mental health problems into their own four walls without necessarily providing treatment of some kind, including withdrawal from drug addiction, what's the case for this being the best approach?" he told the Free Beacon. "It's just self-evident."
Beyond its adoption of California's homelessness policies, the Biden administration has embraced so-called harm reduction, a public health theory that argues governments should minimize the hazards associated with drug use instead of eradicating it. Biden's Department of Health and Human Services has funneled tens of millions of dollars to harm reduction facilities to fund "smoking kits" and other materials meant to help addicts get high without overdosing. The White House earlier this year also made naloxone, a drug used to reverse opioid overdoses, available over the counter.
California has also worked to advance harm reduction, investing $61 billion in such programs in July. Months earlier, in April, liberal California lawmakers blocked bills to strengthen punishments for fentanyl dealers, arguing that the state should pursue harm reduction instead.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams Considers Opening Migrant Camp in Central Park
New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) is considering a plan that would house thousands of border crossers and illegal aliens in a migrant camp in Manhattan’s iconic Central Park.
Since the spring of last year, more than 95,000 border crossers and illegal aliens have arrived in New York City — costing local taxpayers at least $8 million every day. Just as rents have skyrocketed, migrants are sleeping on the streets as Adams has said “there is no more room.”
Now, Adams’ office has suggested that Central Park is among more than 3,000 locations where city officials are considering setting up camps and tent cities for migrants to live.
Other potential migrant camp locations include Prospect Park in Brooklyn and Randall’s Island, where children’s soccer fields may soon be shuttered so the city can house thousands of border crossers and illegal aliens in the area.
Adams is also set to start moving migrants into a recreation center in Brooklyn’s McCarren Park which sits in between the deeply liberal neighborhoods of Williamsburg and Greenpoint.
Meanwhile, Adams has started handing out fliers, available in English and Spanish, to border crossers and illegal aliens not yet in New York City, asking them not to travel to the sanctuary jurisdiction, citing the high cost of living, the lack of housing, and the strained public resources.

Wall Street moves to profit from mass layoffs as Yellow prepares to file for bankruptcy
After laying off 30,000 employees, national less-than-truckload company Yellow is set to be looted by Wall Street. Since its shutdown, Yellow has seen large investments from Boston-based hedge fund MFN, and a group of investors led by Apollo Global Management is reportedly preparing an investment to restructure Yellow’s debt under a bankruptcy filing.
The immediate cause of Yellow’s collapse was its inability to pay off its debt, totaling $1.6 billion with $1.2 billion due next year. Of this, $700 million is due to the United States government and over $500 million is due to Apollo, a major private equity firm with close to $600 billion in managed assets.
Apollo played a leading role in Yellow’s management over the last few years. It had kept Yellow afloat in 2019 by loaning it $500 million, and Apollo co-founder Marc Rowan used his connections with the Trump administration to secure a bailout from the CARES Act.
Despite the influx of new cash, Yellow was still unable to manage its debt, and its only way out of potential bankruptcy was to cut costs. This took the form of Yellow’s One Yellow plan, a massive consolidation program designed to sell off facilities, slash jobs and cut wages and benefits.
Phase two of One Yellow was delayed by contract negotiations with the Teamsters. With One Yellow stalled, Yellow was unable to convince Wall Street it could extract value from workers effectively. Investors made it clear that no new money would be made available until Yellow could prove that it could force workers to pay for its debts and Wall Street’s profits.
Struggling to post a profit, Yellow quickly ran out of money and shuttered its operations last Sunday.
Yellow could easily enter into bankruptcy, which it apparently has not done yet and sell off its assets to pay back its investors. But Wall Street appears to have other plans for Yellow.The hedge fund MFN has rapidly bought up shares of Yellow, now owning more than 40 percent of the company’s shares (22 million). This seemingly peculiar move from MFN is a maneuver by the hedge fund to manage its investments in Yellow’s rival XPO. Should Yellow declare bankruptcy and go under, MFN will see profits from XPO absorbing some of Yellow’s volume. If Yellow survives bankruptcy and returns as a competitor, MFN will profit from its stake in the company. This investment sent the price of Yellow shares up by 78 percent to $3.14.
MFN’s gamble that Yellow might survive bankruptcy was accompanied by reports that Apollo and a group of other lenders are preparing to loan Yellow money as part of a debtor-in-possession (DIP) bankruptcy plan.
DIP is a form of Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing that allows for the debtor, Yellow, to continue with its operations on behalf of its creditors, such as Apollo. If Yellow does file for a DIP program, its creditors would be able to form a committee to oversee the company and manage its operations. If the committee believes that the company is not operating in its best interests, it can ask a court to appoint a trustee.
Essentially, Apollo and its associate lenders would take control over the company and its operations.
However, this does not necessarily mean that Apollo plans on resuscitating Yellow as it was operating previously. Under DIP, and even currently, Apollo has the first lien on Yellow’s debt obligations. This means that it must be paid back first before anyone else, including the US government.
By loaning Yellow more money to restructure its debt under DIP, Apollo is able to guide how Yellow liquidates and take the prime pieces of Yellow’s assets for itself.
Tom Goldsby, a professor of Logistics at the University of Tennessee’s Global Supply Chain Institute, said of the potential loan that “There appear to be all kinds of financial shenanigans going on around Yellow—none of which have anything to do with bolstering its potential as a viable trucking company into the future.”
Apollo has used bankruptcy to attack workers and restructure companies before. In the case of Warrior Met Coal, Apollo and other private equity firms used the company’s bankruptcy to erase pensions for workers and enforce massive pay cuts. And Apollo has reportedly been in talks to carry out a similar DIP program with Scandinavian airline SAS, which is also considering bankruptcy as it fails to force through concessions from airline workers. Apollo could be planning something similar at Yellow.
Regardless of Apollo’s plans, it is clear that the working class has been made to pay for Wall Street’s profits.
Effectively managed by Apollo, Yellow has carried out a major offensive against the working class on the behalf of finance capital and the US government. Worker resistance to exploitation was met with the annihilation of 30,000 jobs by Wall Street, which intends to use the collapse of Yellow to extract as much wealth from the working class as possible.
With the US government owning 27 percent of Yellow through its CARES Act bailout, the Biden administration has also played a critical role in the fall of Yellow. The US is fighting a two front war against Russia abroad and the working class at home. In order to pay for the war—which is costing as much as Yellow’s debt every week—and to enforce labor peace at home the Biden administration has relied on the trade union bureaucracy to enforce sell out contracts and has intervened against workers directly where necessary.
The Teamsters are willing participants in this effort. Teamsters President Sean O’Brien met with Biden several times ahead of the Congressional intervention against railroad workers last winter and was holding meetings with the Biden administration in the days before the announcement of a sellout contract at UPS this summer.
In response to the collapse of Yellow the Teamsters have hardly lifted a finger. It had canceled a strike at the last minute over the company’s non-payment of its pension obligations, and announced a deal which supposedly gave the company an extra 30 days to pay. Instead, the company predictably ceased operations and moved towards bankruptcy within only a few days..
In announcing that the company had ceased operations O’Brien simply stated that “Today’s news is unfortunate but not surprising.” In other words, nothing will be done to protect the livelihoods of 22,000 union members at Yellow. Instead of mobilizing the hundreds of thousands of Teamsters across the country to defend jobs, O’Brien and the union bureaucracy have allowed Yellow to lay off thousands of its members at one of the few remaining unionized trucking companies in the United States.
The idea that Yellow’s demise was an inevitable and unfortunate event is a farce and is aimed at disarming the working class. Yellow is partly owned by the United States government and its investors are some of the wealthiest and most powerful financial organizations in the world. Yellow did not destroy 30,000 jobs because it had no other choice, but because Wall Street and the entire capitalist class demanded that workers pay the price for corporate profits.
It is worth noting that Yellow controlled 10 percent of the LTL market with revenues near $5 billion. Its shuttering has shifted a mass volume of freight to other companies and prices have risen as a result. Rival companies and their investors will enjoy profiting from Yellow’s fall while 30,000 workers are now out of a job.
The collapse of Yellow and the vulture circling of Wall Street is a warning to the working class as a whole, especially as 340,000 UPS workers begin voting on a sell out contract that fails to meet their demands. The capitalist class is prepared to annihilate jobs on a mass scale to bolster their profits and suppress labor unrest.
