BLACK VIOLENCE IN AMERICA - Illinois Parole Board Members Resign After Felon Allegedly Kills Ex-Girlfriend’s Son Hours After Release

Illinois Parole Board Members Resign After Felon Allegedly Kills Ex-Girlfriend’s Son Hours After Release

Two members of the Illinois Prisoner Review board have stepped down after granting the release of a man who allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend’s 11-year-old son hours after gaining freedom.

The board was hit with backlash after freeing Crosetti Brand from his 16-year prison sentence for home invasion and aggravated assault just a month after his ex-girlfriend, Laterria Smith, filed a protection order against him.

The pair had not been together in over 15 years, but Smith, 33, still feared Brand, 37 — with good reason.

“Brand was convicted of domestic-related crimes involving the woman several times between 2006 and 2009, including three violations of orders of protection,” CWBChicago reported.

The felon was originally freed from prison in October with a protection order put in place against contacting Smith, but he was jailed again after being accused of sending her a threatening text and attempting to make entry to her home on February 1, Breitbart News reported.

Just a day before the latest protection order case was to be heard in court, Illinois Prisoner Review Board member LeAnn Miller approved Brand for parole, according to the New York Post.

On the same day that Smith, who is pregnant, was to argue in court why Brand shouldn’t be allowed near her, he allegedly attacked her family with a knife at their Edgewater home.

The outlet reported that Brand allegedly “ambushed” Smith’s young son, Jayden Perkins, as he attempted to protect his mother and unborn sibling.

Jayden died after being violently stabbed in the chest while trying to intervene.

Once the boy’s mother got away and locked herself in another room, the suspect tried to enter but eventually fled. He was later located and arrested at his mother’s home.

Brand now remains in custody on charges of “first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, three counts of home invasion with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery, aggravated domestic battery, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon with a previous conviction, and violating an order of protection,” the CWB Chicago report said.

Not only has Miller resigned from the board, but Chair Donald Shelton also stepped down, the Post reports.

“The Prisoner Review Board must be able to operate independently as they review enormously difficult cases, but I believe LeAnn Miller has made the correct decision in stepping down from her role,” the Gov. JB Pritzker said in a statement.

“It is clear that evidence in this case was not given the careful consideration that victims of domestic violence deserve, and I am committed to ensuring additional safeguards and training are in place to prevent tragedies like this from happening again,” Pritzker said.

He announced the resignation of Shelton in an online press release.

“Donald Shelton served the state of Illinois in his role with the PRB for over a decade, providing a model of dedication to public service,” he said. “During his time with the Champaign Police Department and with the PRB he worked diligently to keep Illinoisans safe and uphold our justice system, and I thank him for his service.”

Smith is still hospitalized in critical condition following the attack, but she and her unborn baby are expected to live, NBC News reported.

Gus Giordano Dance School mourned the loss of Jayden, a star pupil, on social media.

“Jayden Perkins brought the brightest light to GUS. We are incredibly blessed to have been apart of his life. We love you Jayden,” the dance school wrote on X.

Thirty-one-year-old NYPD officer Jonathan Diller was shot and fatally wounded during a traffic stop Monday, allegedly by a man with multiple prior arrests.

The New York Post reported the incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. after Diller approached the vehicle in which 34-year-old Guy Rivera was sitting as a passenger.

Rivera allegedly refused orders to exit the vehicle and Diller was in the process of removing him from the seat when Rivera shot him in the stomach, just below his protective vest.

PIX 11 noted Diller continued to fight to disarm Rivera even after being shot, knocking the pistol to the ground.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said, “The gun hit the ground; and as the perpetrator was still reaching for it, this cop was able to grab it, although he was still shot.”

Diller was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

NYPD cop, 31, fatally shot by career criminal during Queens traffic stop ID’d as husband, dad of young child

A 31-year-old NYPD cop was shot and killed by a career criminal during a traffic stop in Queens on Monday evening in a “senseless act of violence,” officials and law enforcement sources said.

Officer Jonathan Diller, a married father of a 1-year-old boy, was shot in the stomach after police tried to remove the suspect, identified by sources as 34-year-old Guy Rivera, from the passenger seat of the car near 19-19 Mott Ave. in Far Rockaway, according to the NYPD and sources.

Diller, who had three years on the force, fell to the ground and screamed that he had been “hit” after the suspect opened fire, according to witness Deon Peters.

“He was moving, he was saying, ‘I’m hit, I’m hit!’ Giving location and all that,” Peters said. “Like he was crying, like he was really crying.”

Diller was rushed in critical condition to Jamaica Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

“Tonight this city lost a hero, a wife lost her husband, and a young child lost their father,” NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban wrote on X. “We struggle to find the words to express the tragedy of losing one of our own. The work that Police Officer Jonathan Diller did each day to make this city a safer place will NEVER be forgotten.

“Our prayers are with his family, loved ones, and brothers and sisters in blue.”

Sources identified Guy Rivera as the suspect in Diller’s shooting.

The tragic shooting unfolded around 5:50 p.m. after cops approached the vehicle that was stopped in front of a bus stop.

Rivera “was asked to leave the car, he was given a lawful order numerous times to step out of the car, he refused,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said during a press briefing.

“And when the officer took him out of the car, instead of stepping out of the car, he shot our officer,” said Kenny.

The bullet hit Diller under his police vest, authorities said.

Even after Diller was shot, the Long Island resident heroically got the gun away from the shooter when the weapon fell to the ground, according to Kenny.

Diller’s partner returned gunfire and struck Rivera, who has 21 prior arrests, in the back, sources said.

The suspect was also taken to Jamaica Hospital, where police said he was in stable condition.

“We lost Jonathan tonight,” Mayor Eric Adams said during the solemn press conference at Jamaica Hospital.

“I can’t not say it any clearer: It is the good guys against the bad guys and these bad guys are violent,” he added, calling the fatal shooting a “senseless act of violence.”

Both Rivera and the driver of the car, identified by sources as 41-year-old Lindy Jones, had criminal backgrounds, according to records and sources.

Rivera was last released from a New York prison in 2021 after serving five years behind bars for criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to state records. His parole in that case ended last year.

RFK Jr. VP Pick Nicole Shanahan a Leftist ‘Criminal Justice’ Advocate Who Has Given Thousands to Joe Biden

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s rumored choice for a running mate is a leftist “criminal justice” advocate who has given thousands to President Joe Biden and Democrats.

RFK Jr. has tried to position himself as a truly independent candidate after switching from running as a Democrat in October 2023. At the time, he said, “I must declare my own independence. Independence from the Democratic Party. … And from all other political parties.”

But it is clear his vice president choice, Nicole Shanahan, does not exactly sit in the middle, having a history of supporting Democrats — including Biden, giving thousands to his campaign.

According to the New York Times:

Ms. Shanahan, who was once married to the Google co-founder Sergey Brin, has a history of making donations to Democratic campaigns, including to President Biden’s 2020 run. But she gave to Mr. Kennedy’s presidential campaign in May 2023, when he was running as a Democrat.

More specifically, it appears Shanahan gave $30,000 to the Biden campaign in 2020, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) data. She also has made several donations to ActBlue, the Democrat fundraising arm, as well as one to the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

Further, Shanahan has a history of supporting far-left “criminal justice” initiatives. In 2021, she revealed in San Francisco Magazine that she is a “major donor for Measure J in Los Angeles County.” Measure J “amends the County charter, requiring at least 10% of locally generated, unrestricted revenue be reinvested into community development and alternatives to incarceration,” according to a summary. It also “prohibits using funds for carceral systems and law enforcement agencies.”

Further, Shanahan, in that same interview, stated that she believes a mental health professional on scene of the George Floyd’s arrest could have possibly changed the outcome of the situation.

San Francisco Magazine put it this way:

Another important area of investment—criminal justice reform—is one that Shanahan has been devoted to for years, long before the Black Lives Matter movement. “I remember telling Sergey’s foundation head about five years ago that criminal justice reform was going to be one of the biggest topics of our generation,” she says. “I’m happy that I could be a major donor for Measure J in Los Angeles County, which was voted in and will be rerouting some of the law enforcement budget toward mental and social support services.” Shanahan notes that having a mental health professional on the scene of George Floyd’s arrest would have de-escalated the situation and possibly saved his life.

Conservative and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk also pointed out that Shanahan is a “six-figure donor to… George Gascon, the pro-crime, Soros-backed prosecutor who helped wreck San Francisco and is currently wrecking LA.”

He concluded she is a “far-left pick by RFK, who is apparently looking to shore up his progressive bona fides.”

“Major red flag for commonsense independents and centrist voters who are also sick of rising crime but intrigued by his campaign,” he added:

RFK Jr. is expected to make the vice president announcement official on Tuesday.

All the while, poll after poll seems to indicate that RFK Jr.’s presence in the race is benefiting former President Donald Trump rather than Biden. A recent Morning Consult survey examining the race in several key swing states shows Trump with the lead while Kennedy is included:
