Among the most
effective measures against illegal immigration is E-Verify, the Homeland
Security program that gives employers the ability to instantly confirm that
their employees' Social Security numbers are legitimate. It is more than 99
percent accurate, and no employee is denied a job without an opportunity to
challenge the records.
Although wildly popular with Americans -- including Hispanic Americans -- the business lobby hates E-Verify. Employers like hiring non-Americans because they can pay illegal aliens less and ignore state and federal employment laws.
Any candidate who opposes E-Verify is not serious about illegal immigration. If anything, E-Verify ought to be made mandatory to get a job, to get welfare and to vote.
Kowtowing to business (while pretending to kowtow to Hispanics), Paul, Perry and Santorum oppose E-Verify. As a senator, Rick Santorum voted against even the voluntary use of E-Verify.

ANNE COULTER:
ONLY ONE CANDIDATE IS RIGHT ON THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES
December 28,
2011
In the upcoming presidential election, two issues are more important than any others: repealing Obamacare and halting illegal immigration. If we fail at either one, the country will be changed permanently.
Taxes can be raised and lowered. Regulations can be removed (though they rarely are). Attorneys general and Cabinet members can be fired. Laws can be repealed. Even Supreme Court justices eventually die.
But capitulate on illegal immigration, and the entire country will have the electorate of California. There will be no turning back.
Similarly, if Obamacare isn't repealed in the next few years, it never will be.
America will begin its ineluctable descent into becoming a worthless Western European country, with rotten health care, no money for defense and ever-increasing federal taxes to support the nanny state.
So let's consider which of the Republican candidates are most likely to succeed at these objectives.
In order to allow Democrats to indignantly denounce Republicans who said Obamacare would add to the deficit, the bill was structured so that no goodies get paid out immediately. That way, when the Congressional Budget Office was asked to determine if Obamacare was "revenue neutral" over its first 10 years, government accountants were looking at a bill that collected taxes for 10 years, but only distributed treats in the later years.
Starting at year 11, those accountants will be in for a big surprise when the government starts paying out Obamacare benefits without interruption.
Because of this accounting fraud, Obamacare can still be repealed. But as soon as all Americans have been thrown off their employer-provided insurance plans and are forced to start depending on the government for health care, Republicans will never be able to repeal it.
The vast complex of unionized government workers managing our health care from Washington will fight to keep their jobs (for more on this topic, see the Department of Education), voters will want their "free" government treats (for more on this topic, see Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security) -- and even if they don't, there won't be a private insurance market for them to go back to (for more on this topic, see IRS rules favoring employer-provided health care).
The only way to stop Obamacare is to beat Obama in 2012, and repeal it before the health care Leviathan is born.
Otherwise, starting in 2016, Republicans will run for office promising only to improve Obamacare. Newt Gingrich will be calling plans to reform it "right-wing social engineering."
All current Republican presidential candidates say they will overturn Obamacare. The question for Republican primary voters should be: Who is most likely to win?
2012 is not a year for a wild card. It's not a year for any candidate who will end up being the issue, instead of making Obama the issue. It's not a year for one wing of the Republican Party to be making a point with another wing. (And there are no Rockefeller Republicans left, anyway.) It's not a year to be gambling that America will vote for its first woman president, or that the country is ready for a nut-bar libertarian.
Running against an incumbent president in a make-or-break election, Republicans need a candidate with a track record of winning elections with voters similar to the entire American electorate.
Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich have never had to win votes beyond small, majority-Republican congressional districts.
Jon Huntsman, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have won statewide elections, but Huntsman and Perry ran in extremely red states that don't resemble the American electorate. Only Romney and Santorum have won a statewide election in a blue state, making them our surest-bets in a general election.
But if Santorum wins, we lose on the second most important issue -- illegal immigration -- and he'll be the last Republican ever to win a general election in America.
Just as Americans ought to be able to learn the perils of a welfare state by looking at Greece, we ought to be able to learn the perils of illegal immigration by looking at California.
Massive legal and illegal immigration has already so changed the California electorate that no Republican can be elected statewide anymore. Not so long ago, this was a state that produced great Republican governors and senators like Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, S.I. Hayakawa and Pete Wilson.
If even Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman, two bright, attractive, successful female business executives -- one pro-life and one pro-choice -- can't win a statewide election in California spending millions of their own dollars in the middle of the 2010 Republican sweep, it's buenas noches, muchachos.
And yet, almost all Republican presidential candidates support some form of amnesty for illegals in order to appeal to the business lobby.
Among the most effective measures against illegal immigration is E-Verify, the Homeland Security program that gives employers the ability to instantly confirm that their employees' Social Security numbers are legitimate. It is more than 99 percent accurate, and no employee is denied a job without an opportunity to challenge the records.
Although wildly popular with Americans -- including Hispanic Americans -- the business lobby hates E-Verify. Employers like hiring non-Americans because they can pay illegal aliens less and ignore state and federal employment laws.

Kowtowing to business (while pretending to kowtow to Hispanics), Paul, Perry and Santorum oppose E-Verify. As a senator, Rick Santorum voted against even the voluntary use of E-Verify.
Jon Huntsman claims to support E-Verify, but also wants to give illegals amnesty as soon as the border is sealed -- as determined by someone other than us. Also, he gave driver's identification cards to illegal aliens in Utah. (You'd think a guy no one has ever heard of would be more careful about ID cards.)
Following his latest guru, Helen Krieble, Newt Gingrich is for amnesty, combined with second-class status for illegals. Instead of giving illegal aliens green cards, Newt proposes giving them "red cards" so they can stay, take American jobs, have children, receive welfare benefits, attend public schools -- and eventually be granted amnesty. The Republican primaries will be over before most voters realize what Newt's "red card" scheme entails.
Only Michele Bachmann and Mitt Romney aren't trying to sneak through amnesty for illegal aliens. Both support E-Verify.
Numbers USA, one of the leading groups opposed to our current insane immigration policies, gives Republican presidential candidates the following grades on immigration: Paul, F; Gingrich, D-minus; Huntsman, D-minus; Santorum, D-minus; Perry, D; Romney, C-minus; and Bachmann, B-minus.
And that was before Romney said last week that Obama's drunk-driving, illegal alien uncle should be deported!
That leaves us with Romney and Bachmann as the candidates with the strongest, most conservative positions on illegal immigration. As wonderful as Michele Bachmann is, 2012 isn't the year to be trying to make a congresswoman the first woman president.
Two Little Indians sitting in the sun; one was just a congresswoman and then there was one.

Over
the weekend, California Governor Jerry Brown signed into law the second
installment of the California DREAM Act (AB 131) and a sweeping anti-E-Verify
bill (AB 1236).
Illegal
aliens in California already qualify for in-state tuition rates at public
colleges and universities in the State. (See FAIR Legislative Resources, Sept. 27, 2011) Under newly
enacted AB 131, illegal aliens in California are now also eligible for state
funded student financial aid programs and Cal Grant A and B Awards once legal
California residents receive grants. (AB 131 at § 4(b)-(c)).
AB
1236 also represents a significant setback to immigration enforcement in the
state. That bill, deceivingly entitled the “Employment Acceleration Act of
2011,” prohibits state and local governments from requiring employers to use
E-Verify unless required by federal law or as a condition of receiving federal
funds, essentially making voluntary use of the program the only possibility
until Congress passes mandatory E-Verify legislation. (AB 1236 at § 2)
California
Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, an ardent opponent of illegal immigration, vocally
opposed passage of the California DREAM Act: “The polling indicates that 80 to
90 percent of Californians are against this, and it crosses party lines.” (Fox News, Oct. 8, 2011) “It is
absolutely, fundamentally wrong and unfair and it is an insult to people who
have worked and played by the rules, including those who have come to this
country legally,” he said. (Id.) He also stated he hopes to get a ballot
initiative overturning the law started as soon as the bill is officially
included in state statutes. (Id.)

LA RAZA HILDA SOLIS - The U.S. Department of Illegal Alien
Labor
President Obama's Labor Secretary Hilda Solis is supposed to
represent American workers. What you need to know is that this longtime
open--borders sympathizer has always had a rather radical definition of
"American." At a Latino voter registration project conference in Los
Angeles many years ago, Solis asserted to thunderous applause, "We are all Americans, whether you are
legalized or not."
That's right. The woman in charge of enforcing our
employment laws doesn't give a hoot about our immigration laws ---- or about
the fundamental distinction between those who followed the rules in pursuit of
the American dream and those who didn't.

Labor Secretary Pledges Help
For Illegal Workers
Last
Updated: Tue, 06/22/2010 - 11:00am
Two
months after the Department of Labor launched a special program to assist and
protect illegal immigrants in the U.S. the Obama cabinet official who heads the
agency is personally encouraging undocumented workers to report employers that
don’t pay them fairly.
In
a Spanish-language public service announcement, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis assures that “every worker
in America has a right to be paid fairly, whether documented or not.” Illegal
aliens who are not getting fair wages are encouraged to call a new hotline set
up by the agency on a new “Podemos
Ayudar” (We
Can Help) web page designed to administer worker protection laws and ensure
that employees are properly paid “regardless of immigration status.”
In
the short video, also posted in English, Solis tells illegal immigrants that
it’s a “serious problem” when workers in this country are not paid fairly and
that all workers have the right to receive their salary regardless of
immigration status. She encourages those who are not to call the new hotline
and assures it’s free and confidential. “Podemos ayudar,” (we can help), Solis
guarantees at the end of the brief segment.
The
Labor Secretary’s new message is part of a campaign launched a few months ago
to help illegal immigrant workers in the U.S., who she refers to as “vulnerable”
and “underpaid.”
At least 1,000 new field investigators have been deployed to reach out to
Latino laborers in areas with large numbers of illegal alien employees and the
agency will focus on enforcing labor and wage laws in industries that typically
hire lots of illegal aliens without reporting anyone to federal immigration
authorities.
For
a government agency to protect law breakers in this fashion may seem
unbelievable but not if you consider the source. A Former California
congresswoman, Solis has close ties to the influential La Raza movement that
advocates open borders and rights for illegal immigrants. She made the
protection of undocumented workers a major priority upon being named Labor
Secretary, assuring illegal aliens that “if you work in this country, you are
protected by our laws.”

Here’s his Sec. Labor, HILDA SOLIS:
While in Congress, she opposed strengthening
the border fence, supported expansion of illegal alien benefits (including
driver's licenses and in-state tuition discounts), embraced sanctuary cities
that refused to cooperate with federal homeland security officials to enforce
immigration laws, and aggressively championed a mass amnesty. Solis was steeped
in the pro-illegal alien worker organizing movement in Southern California and
was buoyed by amnesty-supporting Big Labor groups led by the Service Employees
International Union. She has now caused a Capitol Hill firestorm over her new
taxpayer-funded advertising and outreach campaign to illegal aliens regarding
fair wages:

FROM JUDICIAL WATCH:
Obama Administration Challenges
Arizona E-Verify Law
The
Obama administration has asked the Supreme Court to strike down a 2007 Arizona law that punishes employers who
hire illegal aliens, a law enacted by then-Governor Janet Napolitano. (Solicitor General's Amicus
Curiae Brief).
Called the “Legal Arizona Workers Act,” the law requires all employers in
Arizona to use E-Verify and provides that the business licenses of those who
hire illegal workers shall be repealed. From the date of enactment, the
Chamber of Commerce and other special interest groups have been trying to undo
it, attacking it through a failed ballot initiative and also through a lawsuit.
Now the Chamber is asking the United States Supreme Court to hear the case (Chamber
of Commerce v. Candelaria), and the Obama Administration is weighing in
against the law.
To
date, Arizona’s E-Verify law has been upheld by all lower courts, including the
Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The Ninth Circuit, in particular, viewed it as
an exercise of a state’s traditional power to regulate businesses. (San Francisco Chronicle, June 2, 2010).
Obama’s Justice Department, however, disagrees. Acting Solicitor General Neal
Katyal said in his filing with the Supreme Court that the lower courts were
wrong to uphold the statute because federal immigration law expressly preempts
any state law imposing sanctions on employers hiring illegal immigrants.
Mr. Katyal argues that this is not a licensing law, but “a statute that
prohibits the hiring of unauthorized aliens and uses suspension and revocation
of all state-issued licenses as its ultimate sanction.” (Solicitor General's Amicus
Curiae Brief,
p. 10). This is the administration’s first court challenge to a state’s
authority to act against illegal immigration, and could be a preview of the
battle brewing over Arizona’s recent illegal immigration crackdown through SB
1070.
Napolitano
has made no comment on the Department of Justice’s decision to challenge the
2007 law, but federal officials said that she has taken an active part in the
debate over whether to do so. (Politico, May 28, 2010).
As Governor of Arizona, Napolitano said she believed the state law was valid
and became a defendant in the many lawsuits against it. (Id.).

Open-Borders Groups in Panic...
Massive Loss of Illegal Alien Jobs (Put Americans back to work!)
Open-Borders Groups in Panic
That 'Chairman's E-Verify Bill' Will Result in Massive Loss of Illegal Alien
Jobs
By Roy Beck, Friday, June 17, 2011, 3:41 PM EDT - posted on NumbersUSA
One way to judge the likely effectiveness of Chairman Lamar Smith's national mandatory E-Verify bill is the panic it has caused among the nation's biggest promoters of illegal immigration. They attack Rep. Smith's bill because they say it will take the incomes away from large swaths of America's illegal population. Well, I guess that's the point isn't it, because those incomes will now go to unemployed American citizens and legal immigrants who already are here.
The big pro-amnesty coalition called Reform Immigration FOR America screamed in its mass email:
Mass firings, mass deportations
Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum, was allowed by the authoritative The Hill publication on Capitol Hill to make personal attacks on Rep. Smith, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee because his E-Verify bill (H.R. 2164) would give illegal-alien jobs to unemployed Americans instead of the illegal foreign workers:
(Lamar Smith is) Congress's biggest obstacle to fixing one of our country's worst and most pressing problems . . . . he has indicated that comprehensive immigration reform is dead on arrival in his committee . . .
Noorani's group was the lead group in the massive coalition that tried to pass the 2007 Bush-Kennedy-McCain amnesty. He and others for months now have been waging a public relations campaign to demonize Chairman Smith as the man who more than anybody is standing in the way of the dreams of millions of illegal aliens to be given a permanent permission to keep their jobs.
Of course, that kind of demonization can cut two ways and establish Lamar Smith also as the man who more than anybody is fighting for the dreams of America's unemployed who want those jobs held by millions of illegal aliens.
America's Voice (a deeply ideological and partisan pro-amnesty group that formed after the 2007 amnesty defeat) reacted to Chairman Smith's introduction of H.R. 2164 with:
It's going to be a long, hot summer for anyone who cares about sensible immigration reform, now that Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) is in charge of the House Judiciary Committee. . . . Smith's motivation? He wants to expel 8 million undocumented immigrants out of the formal labor market in hopes they will go home. The strategy is called 'attrition through enforcement.'
At Wednesday's committee hearing on H.R. 2164, the pro-amnesty champions echoed the warning of the advocacy groups that Chairman Smith's bill is the biggest threat to illegal immigration in years, if not ever.
They absolutely refused to accept that any unemployed Americans would want any of the 7 million-plus jobs held by illegal aliens in construction, service, manufacturing and transportation. And they repeatedly decried Chairman Smith's refusal to give those 7 million-plus jobs permanently to the illegal aliens now holding them.
The pro-illegal-immigration officials and lobbies know what will happen if H.R. 2164 becomes law because what has happened in states like Arizona and Georgia with E-Verify laws that don't do half of what H.R. 2164 would do. Illegal workers have been leaving those states in droves, even though the state laws only deal with new hires. Chairman Smith's bill deals with all new hires but also with 99% of illegal aliens in their current jobs (something that no state law does).
Right now, a lot of the illegal workers who leave the four states with laws requiring E-Verify for all private employers tend to go to neighboring states and take jobs from citizens there.
But a national law will leave them no choice but to go back to their home countries.
