Joe Biden hasn't abolished ICE, but he's done something just as bad. He's made it impossible for the agency to do its job. Just two months into the White House's amnesty experiment, the scene along our southern border is chaos. And who's fault is it? According to the administration: Donald Trump's.

"We recognize this is a big problem," Press Secretary Jen Psaki finally conceded after days of ignoring the situation. Then, to the surprise of no one, trotted out a familiar punching bag. "The last administration left us a dismantled and unworkable system and, like any other problem, we are going to do all we can to solve it."

Lately, you have to wonder what Joe Biden would do without his predecessor. He couldn't take credit for all of Trump's successes -- or blame him for all of his failures. That may have worked on the vaccine, but on this issue? The American people aren't fooled.

What they're seeing unravel at the border is a crisis of Biden's own making. If this president cared more about national security than catering to the extreme Left, there wouldn't be 13,000 migrant children -- alone, without their parents -- in U.S. custody. We wouldn't have coyotes and cartels selling women into sex trafficking rings or luring teenage boys into labor gangs or drug running. And even if the Biden administration had done nothing on immigration when they came into office, it would've been a good deal better than what they did do -- which was overturn all of Trump's progress.

"Now what you have," Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said with disgust, "is an absolute mess."

She's right. When I was on my second trip to the border about a year ago, it was like a ghost town. Very few people were trying to get in illegally. Why? Because the process the Trump administration put in place stemmed the flow with a management system that protected our borders -- and upheld law and order. Was it inconvenient for people trying to get into the country illegally? Absolutely, but that's what breaking the law should be. The last thing America should be doing is turning the border into a welcome center where you're greeted with gift bags and maps, which is basically what the Biden team has done. It's insanity!

And now that things are approaching catastrophic levels, this White House is like a cat in a sandbox, trying to cover its tracks. Rep. Michael Cloud (R-Tex.) was part of the Republican delegation that just visited the border, and he says what they saw was tragic: overflowing facilities, young children separated from their parents, and local communities and immigration agents stretched thin and overwhelmed.

"It's sad to see that we're at this point," he said soberly. Unfortunately, this is what happens when the president of the United States puts out the call for people to ignore our laws and cross the border. Now, of course, Biden is backtracking under pressure, finally telling the caravans, "Don't come..." But it's too little, too late.

He's already abandoned the border wall mid-construction, Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) pointed out, ticking off all of the ways America's immigration policy has been upended. With a stroke of the pen, the president released almost anyone traveling with a child under 18 directly into the country. He's granted sanctuary status for a whole host of criminal offenses, including drunk driving and sexual abuse. He's restored unrestricted travel from hotbeds of international terrorism. He ended the agreement that people requesting asylum (usually for bogus reasons) wait in Mexico until their hearing is scheduled. And now, taxpayers are stuck with the tab for all of this -- and whatever surge in coronavirus cases come later.

Trump got control of the border, Rich Lowry insists. Biden threw it all away. And with it, any trust from the American people that this administration cares about the future of the country it's destroying.

Biden's Coordinator for Southern Border: 'We Will Be Opening New Paths for Legal Entry Into the U.S.'

(CNSNews.com) - As illegal immigration overwhelms the Southwest border, "we will be opening new paths for legal entry into the United States," Roberta Jacobson, President Biden's coordinator for the southern border, said on Wednesday.

She also told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell she thinks Biden's "don't come" message to undocumented people will "get widely distributed."

Mitchell asked Jacobson how Biden's "don't come" message will reach "desperate families in the Northern Triangle who are waiting at the Mexican border?"

“Well, I think people do pick up the president's message all over,” Jacobson replied.

But, moreover, that's why we have embassies and consulates, and we work with civil society groups, the UNHCR, the International Organization for Migration, and other groups to repeat the president's message that people should not come in this fashion, that we will be opening new paths for legal entry into the United States, but that we are enforcing our laws.

And so I think the message -- the president's message will get widely distributed. But, as I have said before, the smugglers are very agile, and their message gets through quickly.

Unchecked illegal immigration works to the advantage of the smugglers who encourage it, because it diverts Border Patrol resources away from the smugglers.

Jacobson said "hardship" and "desperation" in Central America are prompting people to make the difficult journey to the United States, and she said that creates an "urgency to ensure that we open up legal paths for people."

"It is reflective of crises that are compounded by climate change, two hurricanes in 15 days, violence, et cetera. So, we know that there are people in very dire straits, which is why we feel enormous urgency, urgency to get very quick-disbursing humanitarian assistance there faster, so that people can stay home, and urgency to ensure that we open up legal paths for people, so they don't have to undertake these journeys."

The goal is to allow people to apply for asylum in their home countries, but that will take time, and it’s unlikely to stanch the flood at the Southwest border.

Meanwhile, Jacobson on Wednesday did nothing to discourage children from coming here.

Speaking about the thousands of children being moved to places like the Dallas convention center, she said, "we will continue to ensure that we expand options for these children to meet the need.”

She noted that Border Patrol stations are no place for children: "And that's why we're expanding the number of beds and also accelerating the process to get children through HHS and to families and sponsors, so that we can shorten the amount of time kids are in either CBP or HHS custody and on to families, and ensuring that we have appropriate places that protect and safeguard children.

"I think all of us agree that children need to be handled in a humane and safe way. The pandemic obviously complicates that."

Jacobson noted that FEMA is working to find "more options" for shelter: "They're moving very, very quickly, so that we can ensure the children are in appropriate care.

“But it isn't just a building. It is staff to handle them. And I think that it is important that we make sure the background checks are conducted on staff, that we do everything we can to ensure they are in a safe place and that we don't put children at risk.

“And we are moving kids as quickly as we possibly can.”

(So the message is, if children – including teenagers age 17 and maybe older -- reach the U.S., they'll be housed, clothed, fed, treated "humanely," and moved quickly to the homes of relatives or sponsors.)

Texas Gov. Abbott: 'Total Catastrophe' at Border; 'We Can't Get the Data'

(CNSNews.com) - When it comes to illegal immigration, Texas is the hardest-hit state, given its 1,254 mile border with Mexico.

The recent surge is bad enough, and it will get worse, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told Fox News's Sean Hannity on Wednesday:

"Listen, this has turned into a total catastrophe, and it's getting worse by the day," Abbott said, as he demanded access to the unaccompanied children to find out who’s doing the human trafficking.

Americans need to know this -- this is just the very beginning of what's going to be a massive expansion of the number of people coming across the border. It will grow tenfold and a hundredfold, especially because of the way the Biden administration has handled this.

Remember during the presidential campaign when all of the candidates said, we want open borders. Well, guess what? Biden has provided those open borders. He's inviting everybody in and the flood gates are now open, and Texas is at the forefront of it.

We're having to deal with these massive numbers of migrants, whether it'd be 3,000 in Dallas or however many they're sitting in Midland or however many they have a Carrizo Springs. And the reason why I say however many is because we can't get the data.

You had Jen Psaki talking about wanting to be transparent (see below) -- the Biden administration is not being transparent with either the governor of Texas or the Texas Department of State Health Services. We need to know what the health situation of these kids are. We need to know if they've been exposed to variants of COVID, and if so, is it the Brazilian variant or whatever type of variants?

Our law enforcement, the Texas Department of Public Safety, they need to do their job. Part of their job is making sure they track down and prosecute anybody involved in smuggling.

Once the kids get over to the state of Texas, they are still involved with coyotes and smugglers and people like that that we do have the ability to arrest and put behind bars. The Biden administration is not letting us gain access to that information so that we can arrest and prosecute those who are assisting this immigration process.

Abbott said state officials have sought access to shelters and been denied:

You've got some young children who've been trafficked across Mexico and maybe some other countries and who knows what horrific things may have happened to them. What I can tell you is Texas has a top-notch human trafficking prosecution unit, and we want to be involved and learn the information so that we can crack down on this human trafficking mission.

Sean, we need to -- we need to expose this for what it is, because President Biden continues to invite in young children with the promise of them being able to stay here, these children make a very dangerous trek where they have to encounter cartels, drug dealers, gang members, MS-13 gang members and there could be horrific things happening to them.

We know the legacy of the human trafficking that happens to these children. It must be stopped.

(Earlier on Wednesday, Gov. Abbott said he was "directly asking the Biden administration to allow the Texas Department of Public Safety to access" the convention center in Dallas "as well as the other federally run facilities in Texas to be able to talk to these unaccompanied minors. We must get to the bottom of the human trafficking and put an end to it," he said.)

'We remain committed to transparency'

At the White House press briefing on Wednesday, reporters complained about the lack of press access to places like the Dallas convention center where thousands of undocumented children are being housed.

"Why have we still not seen any images inside these facilities?" a reporter asked Psaki:

"We--we remain committed to doing that, and I think these facilities are overseen, HHS of course overseen--oversees the shelters. The DHS oversees the Border Patrol facilities and we want to work with them to ensure we can do -- respecting the privacy and obviously the health protocols required by COVID," Psaki said.

The reporter told Psaki the Biden administration could share redacted photos of conditions inside the holding facilities if it wanted to.

"Again we--we remain committed to sharing with all of you data on the number of kids crossing the border, the steps we are taking, the work we are doing to open up facilities," Psaki said.

"Our own bar we are setting for ourselves and improving and expediting the timeline and the treatment of these children and we remain committed to transparency. I don't have an update for you on the timeline for access, but it is certainly something we support."

A reporter told Psaki that Border Patrol agents are no longer allowed to let reporters ride along with them for a first-hand look at the overrun border. "It certainly it seems like there is an element of secrecy here. Why?" the reporter asked.

"I certainly wouldn't characterize it that way," Psaki said. "I know there's Border Patrol agents quoted in a lot of your stories ... it is not our policy to prevent people from talking."

She told reporters to go ask the Homeland Security Department. "I would point you to them for any additional questions about the logistics of press access," she said.

'We're not hiding anything'

President Biden's coordinator for the southern border Roberta Jacobson told MSNBC on Wednesday that the Biden administration is "not hiding anything," even though it seems to have muzzled Border Patrol agents and refuses to let reporters see what's happening in the child migrant shelters.

NBC's Andrea Mitchell told Jacobson: "Multiple organizations, including NBC News, are reporting that they are not getting access, information from these overcrowded border processing facilities, and that the Border Patrol is particularly denying information today. Can you resolve that?" she asked.

"Well, I certainly would urge NBC and others to talk with the Department of Homeland Security and with Customs and Border Protection," Jacobson said. "I will certainly take back the question.

"I also think that it's really important that we be setting about the task of moving children to appropriate places. We're not hiding anything. We do want to be sure that the story is told transparently. But we're also in a situation of urgent need for children and need to move children. And that has to take first priority."

TO UNDERSTAND THIS CLOWN MAYORKAS, UNDERSTAND THAT HE IS ANOTHER BIDEN LAWYER. HE IS TRAINED IN LAW SCHOOL TO GAME THE LAWS! THERE IS NO CLASS MORE CONTEMPTUOUS OF OUR LAWS THAN THE FUCKING LAWYER CLASS!

WATCH — DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas: ‘Extraordinarily Disrespectful’ to Ask Me About Illegal Alien Crime Victims

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas asserts it is “extraordinarily disrespectful” to ask him about American victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens.

During a hearing before the House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday, Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) asked Mayorkas about illegal alien crime victims.

Specifically, Cammack referenced the case of 19-year-old Amber Scott, a high school cheerleader at the time in Douglas County, Colorado, who was kidnapped at knifepoint in 2006 by 25-year-old illegal alien Pedro Martinez.

Martinez had been previously deported to his native Mexico after three felony drug convictions, but he returned illegally to the U.S. at a later date. Martinez was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in May 2007.

“How many more Ambers have the kidnapped across America before you will take action?” Cammack asked Mayorkas in the hearing, to which he called the question “extraordinarily disrespectful.”

The full exchange went as follows:

CAMMACK: I’m from a small town out West, and the month before I was supposed to graduate high school, which was 2006, one of my classmates was kidnapped by an illegal who had been deported multiple times. And I think when you have policies that incentivize folks to come over illegally, and we don’t have the proper mechanisms in place to protect our borders … that kind of impact has resounding effects. So my question to you, her name was Amber Scott — the young lady who was kidnapped by this illegal criminal — how many more Ambers have to be kidnapped across America before you will take action?

MAYORKAS: Congresswoman, I find that question to be extraordinarily disrespectful. Disrespectful not only to me, but disrespectful to the men and women of Homeland Security and to all the frontline personnel throughout this country who dedicate themselves to the safety and security of the American people.

CAMMACK: I’m sorry that you feel that way. … I’m sure the American people feel very disrespected about the border situation we’re facing right now [Emphasis added].

Americans often become the victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens. This month, an illegal alien MS-13 Gang member — already in prison for attempted second-degree murder — was charged with second-degree murder for his involvement in a 2016 killing in Long Island, New York.

Federal data from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) reveals that in 2020, the office had received about 700 calls from Americans and their surviving family members, known as Angel Families, who were victims of illegal alien crimes.

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) has long estimated that about 2,000 Americans are killed by illegal aliens every year.

In October 2020, President Trump issued a presidential proclamation that makes November 1 of every year the “National Day of Remembrance for Americans Killed by Illegal Aliens.”

Lawsuit: Biden’s ‘Sanctuary Country’ Policy Freeing Illegal Alien Convicts into American Communities

FLDA
FLAG

Illegal alien convicts are being released, or have already been released, directly into American communities from state prisons thanks to President Joe Biden’s “sanctuary country” orders that are preventing most arrests and deportations, a lawsuit reveals.

In February, Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued orders that instruct Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents not to pursue illegal aliens for arrest and deportation unless they have been recently convicted of aggravated felonies against Americans.

For example, illegal aliens arrested or charged with rape, murder, sexual abuse of a child, and child pornography would not be eligible for arrest by ICE agents because they have not been convicted of the crimes.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration’s sanctuary country orders, revealing that already illegal alien convicts in state prisons are being released into American communities because ICE agents can no longer detain and deport them.

Moody named seven illegal alien convicts in the case — many of whom have been convicted of burglary, cocaine trafficking, grand theft auto, heroin trafficking, credit card fraud, money laundering, and other crimes.

The cases can be viewed in full here:

FDC Inmates by John Binder

Despite notices by the Florida Department of Corrections to ICE about the illegal alien convicts’ upcoming releases, ICE agents were forced to reply saying they would be unable to take custody because of Biden’s sanctuary orders.

As a result, illegal alien convicts Alejandro Falcon Luis Reyes and Dzevad Husejnovic have already been released into Florida communities rather than being turned over to ICE agents for detainment and deportation.

Other illegal alien convicts named in the lawsuit — including Jose Gomez, Loveson Pierre, Donavan Mott, and Wanto Jerome — are set to be released into communities this month, June, or November.

“The Biden administration’s reckless policy of refusing to do their jobs and deport criminals places all those gains and Floridians’ public safety at risk,” Moody said in a statement.

“Until President Biden’s inauguration, presidents of both parties detained and deported criminals,” Moody continued. “This is a radical shift that places Floridians and our law enforcement officers in greater danger, and that is why I filed suit.”

In Pasco County, Florida, alone, the lawsuit states that ICE agents have been unable to take custody of three illegal aliens who were convicted of crimes such as domestic violence, violating a restraining order, and a warrant for an accused sexual predator.

Moody, in asking for a preliminary injunction on Biden’s sanctuary country orders, joins Arizona and Montana Attorneys General Mark Brnovich and Austin Knudsen, who are also suing Biden, arguing that the policies are a violation of federal immigration law.

As Breitbart News reported this week, Biden’s sanctuary country orders have prompted ICE detention of illegal aliens to hit the lowest level in the agency’s history with less than 14,000 detainees in custody. Likewise, deportations have been cut by 53 percent in his first month.

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The case number is 8:21-cv-00541.

Illegal Alien Charged with 4 Murders Looks to Evade Death Penalty with ‘Intellectually Disabled’ Label

An illegal alien charged with murdering four Americans is looking to evade the death penalty by classifying himself as “intellectually disabled.”

Wilbur Ernesto Martinez-Guzman, a 20-year-old illegal alien from El Salvador, was charged with murdering 56-year-old Connie Koontz, 74-year-old Sophia Renken, 81-year-old Gerald David, and his 80-year-old wife, Sharon David, in January 2019 when prosecutors said he was attempting to steal money from his victims to buy more meth.

Now, Martinez-Guzman’s attorneys seek to classify him as “intellectually disabled” so he can evade the death penalty. The attorneys have appealed their case to Nevada’s Supreme Court, claiming that they need more time to gather evidence that their client is intellectually disabled.

The Associated Press reports:

Nevada’s Supreme Court wants to hear directly from lawyers on both sides in a death penalty dispute over how much more time public defenders should have to try to prove a Salvadoran immigrant is intellectually disabled and can’t be executed if convicted of four 2019 Nevada killings. [Emphasis added]

Deputy Defender John Reese Petty said in their most recent Supreme Court filings the motion hasn’t been filed yet because they’ve been unable to gather necessary evidence in Guzman’s native El Salvador due largely to COVID-19 travel restrictions. [Emphasis added]

A clinical psychologist concluded in an evaluation that’s been sealed in district court that Martinez-Guzman’s general intellectual and cognitive test scores fell well below levels needed to satisfy key elements of Nevada’s execution exemption, the defense said. [Emphasis added]

Previously, a Nevada judge said Martinez-Guzman’s attorneys had until April 20 to prove he is intellectually disabled. They claim they need more time to travel to El Salvador and gather evidence to prove their case.

Among those allegedly murdered by Martinez-Guzman was Connie Koontz, a mother, whose mother’s 80th birthday was the following day. Koontz, herself, was set to turn 57 five days after her murder.

Also allegedly murdered was 74-year-old Sophia Renken, as well as Gerald and Sharon David, who were both beloved members of the South Reno community. Gerald was president of the Reno Rodeo Association in 2006, and Sharon was a member of the group.

Martinez-Guzman’s trial is set to begin on September 20.

EXCLUSIVE: Leaked Numbers Show Migrant ‘Got-Aways’ Soar as Border Apprehensions Hit 15-Year High

A U.S. Border Patrol source reports the number of migrant “got-away’s” tallied by the agency surpassed 118,000 for this fiscal year. In less than six months, the “got-away” number is nearly double that for all of Fiscal Year 2020.  Last year, 69,000 illegal immigrants managed to avoid apprehension by the Border Patrol. Sources report the sharpest increase began in January as President Joe Biden took office.

This particular metric is usually not released by Department of Homeland Security officials. The numbers are achieved by counting illegal immigrants who ultimately escape Border Patrol apprehension after being observed by aircraft platforms and camera systems. In addition, Border Patrol agents using traditional “sign-cutting” techniques identify footprints crossing the border and count those that elude apprehension.

“That’s where it gets tricky,” says a Border Patrol agent with knowledge of the data who is not authorized to speak in the issue. “On a small trail, dozens can walk all over each other’s footprints, so you just do your best. Often, they’ll glue carpet to the soles of their shoes making detection even harder.”

The source reports that for these reasons, the got-away count is usually lower than reality. How much so is debatable as the latter method of counting is not scientific.

The spike in got-aways comes as U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials reported the highest number of migrant apprehension totals since 2006.

Despite the current administration’s refusal to call the immigration situation on the border a crisis, the recent surges are concerning. Many believe the impetus for the surges in illegal entries is being fueled by the promise of amnesty legislation. The administration’s new policies regarding lax interior enforcement and a reduction in removals are also believed to be contributing to the surge in activity along the border.

During a recent press engagement, Texas Governor Greg Abbott elaborated on his views about the border surge, “Because of the volume of people coming across the border, the Border Patrol that makes the arrest, they have to engage quite literally in babysitting. And while they’re doing babysitting, that provides an opportunity for the cartels to be able to bring other people across the border illegally.”.

Recent reports concerning the reduced patrols being conducted by the Border Patrol are likely contributing to the surge in the got-away count. The humanitarian needs of thousands of unaccompanied children crossing the border have impacted the Border Patrol’s ability to cover many remote areas. This situation is likely to worsen as the crisis develops.

Randy Clark is a 32-year veteran of the United States Border Patrol.  Prior to his retirement, he served as the Division Chief for Law Enforcement Operations, directing operations for nine Border Patrol Stations within the Del Rio, Texas Sector.

64K Migrants Apprehended in Texas-Based Border Sectors in Feb. — Up 27 Percent from Jan.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the five Texas-based sectors apprehended nearly 64,000 migrants in February. This represents an increase of more than 27 percent from the previous month.

Agents assigned to the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, Del Rio, Big Bend, and El Paso Sectors apprehended 63,734 migrants in February, according to the Southwest Border Land Encounters Report released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials on Wednesday. This represents an increase of 13,619 migrants over the January report. Note: The El Paso Sector includes apprehensions in New Mexico.

Border Patrol agents apprehended nearly 100,000 migrants in February who illegally crossed the Mexico-U.S. Border between ports of entry. The apprehensions reveal a jump of 26 percent from January and 170 percent from one year ago.

Border Patrol agents apprehended 98,974 migrants in February who illegally crossed the border in February, according to the Southwest Land Border Encounters Report released on Wednesday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials. This represents a massive increase from the 78,323 apprehended in January and an even larger jump from February 2020 when agents apprehended only 36,687. The February 2021 apprehensions are the largest February report since 2006 when agents apprehended 125,046.

These apprehensions occurred during President Joe Biden’s first full month in office and follows his cancellation of border wall systems construction and many of the Trump-era policies that ended catch and release.

“The border is not open,” CBP Senior Officials Performing the Duties of the Commissioner Troy Miller said in his opening remarks in Wednesday’s unveiling of the Southwest Border Encounters report for February. He said their administration is building an “orderly process” and that people should not believe the human smugglers who are encouraging the current spike in illegal border crossings.

“The United States is continuing to strictly enforce our existing immigration laws and border security measures,” Mr. Miller continued. “Those who attempt to cross the border without going through ports of entry should understand that they are putting themselves and their families in danger, especially during the pandemic.”

Most concerning in these apprehend is the number of Unaccompanied Alien Children smuggled across the border and apprehended by Border Patrol agents. In January, agents apprehended 5,871 unaccompanied minors, official reports indicate. In February, that number climbed to 9,297, the CBP report states. This represents a single-month increase of 58 percent and a 166 percent jump from last February’s 3,490.

Miller said more than 3,000 of the unaccompanied minors are under the age of 12. The remaining minors are between 13 and 17 years of age.

The apprehension of 18,945 Family Unit Aliens in February also jumped from the previous month’s total of 7,490 and the 7,117 apprehended in February 2020.

The increased apprehensions in February represent the tenth straight month of increases in apprehensions. The previous low point came in April 2020 when apprehensions fell to 17,104.

The Texas sectors account for 65 percent of all migrant border apprehensions, the report indicates.

The Rio Grande Valley Sector is clearly the epicenter of the current border crisis with nearly 28,000 migrants (nearly 29 percent) being apprehended out of the total apprehensions of 96,974. The apprehensions in the RGV Sector jumped 63,7 percent from January’s 17,056.

The El Paso Sector is next with 13,181 apprehensions — up 24 percent from January. The Big Bend Sector experienced an increase of 16 percent over the previous month. The Del Rio and Laredo Sectors both reported a slight decrease in apprehensions — 0.7 and 1.7 percent respectively.

By demographic category, the five Texas-based sectors apprehended 41,467 single adults, 7,056 unaccompanied alien children, and 15,211 family unit aliens.

In the Rio Grande Valley Sector alone, Border Patrol agents apprehended 10,489 unaccompanied minors representing more than 55 percent of the 18,945 minors apprehended in all nine southwest border sectors.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Troy Miller, senior official performing the duties of the commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported more than 3,000 of the unaccompanied minors apprehended nationally are under the age of 12. The remaining minors are between 13 and 17 years of age.

4300 Migrants Apprehended over One Week in Central Texas Border Sector

Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended 4,300 migrants who illegally crossed the central Texas border from Mexico in the past seven days. The arrest of these migrants includes migrants with extensive criminal histories and human smugglers.

Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin Skero tweeted that his agents apprehended more than 4,300 migrants during the first seven days of March.

Skero said 2,000 of those migrants were arrested over the weekend. These apprehensions indicate an ever increasing number of migrant apprehensions in this sector. If the rate of apprehensions stays the same for the entire month of March, agents will apprehend more than 19,000 migrants this month.

In January, the most recent month where statistics are available, Del Rio Sector agents apprehended 11,073 migrants including 8,834 single adults, 1,731 family unit aliens, and 508 unaccompanied alien children, according to the January Southwest Land Border Encounters report published by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in February. If the rate of apprehensions holds up, or does not increase, this would represent an increase of 71 percent in the past two months.
