Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said on Thursday that democracy relies on passing the controversial Journalism Competition and Preservation Act (JCPA).

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL) said on Thursday that the bill will be “held over” as Klobuchar and Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) hash out disagreements over content moderation provisions in the bill.

After the conclusion of Thursday’s Senate Judiciary Committee meeting, which was supposed to feature a vote to advance the bill out of committee, Klobuchar said that Durbin committed to taking up the bill next week.

“I’m the daughter of a newspaperman, and I’m not going to stop fighting for local news. Our democracy relies on it. Chairman Durbin has committed to taking up our bipartisan bill in the Judiciary Committee next week,” she said:

Thursday’s delay follows Klobuchar’s decision to pause the advancement of the JCPA out of the Judiciary Committee after Judiciary Republicans managed to successfully pass an amendment to the bill, sponsored by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), that would prevent media conglomerates and big tech platforms from discussing content moderation during negotiations.

Democrats balked at the inclusion of the amendment, and Klobuchar said the agreement between her and Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) blew up.

Cruz lauded the bill’s delay as a victory for free speech.

“What happened today was a huge victory for the First Amendment and free speech. Sadly, it is also a case study in how much the Democrats love censorship,” Cruz said in his exclusive statement to Breitbart News. “They would rather pull their bill entirely than advance it with my proposed protections for Americans from unfair online censorship.”

Congressional aides told Breitbart News that an agreement would not be reached on the bill ahead of Thursday’s hearing.

Report: Facebook Spied on Messages of Conservatives Questioning 2020 Election, Sent Them to FBI

A recent report claims that Facebook has been spying on the private messages of American users and reporting them to the FBI if they express anti-government sentiments or question the 2020 election.

The New York Post reports that Facebook has been spying on the private messages and data of American users. The company has reportedly been informing the FBI of users that express anti-government or anti-authority sentiments. Sources within the DOJ allege that the company also reported users that questioned the validity of the 2020 election.

As part of an FBI collaboration operation, an employee at Facebook red-flagged private messages containing such sentiments over the past 19 months, transmitting redacted versions to the domestic terrorism operational unit at the FBI headquarters in Washington, DC. This was all done without a subpoena.

One anonymous source stated: “It was done outside the legal process and without probable cause. Facebook provides the FBI with private conversations which are protected by the First Amendment without any subpoena.”

The private messages were shared as “leads” to FBI field offices around the U.S. which then requested subpoenas from the partner U.S. Attorney’s Office in their district to obtain the private conversations they had already been provided with by Facebook.

However, when the Facebook users were investigated, they were not found to be involved in anything criminal or violent. One source stated: “It was a waste of our time.”

All of the Facebook users red-flagged as possible terrorists were “conservative right-wing individuals,” one source said. “They were gun-toting, red-blooded Americans [who were] angry after the election and shooting off their mouths and talking about staging protests. There was nothing criminal, nothing about violence or massacring or assassinating anyone.”

The source continued: “As soon as a subpoena was requested, within an hour, Facebook sent back gigabytes of data and photos. It was ready to go. They were just waiting for that legal process so they could send it.”

Erica Sackin, spokesperson for Communications, Dangerous Organizations and Individuals at Facebook (now known as Meta), denied the allegations, stating:

These claims are false because they reflect a misunderstanding of how our systems protect people from harm and how we engage with law enforcement. We carefully scrutinize all government requests for user information to make sure they’re legally valid and narrowly tailored and we often push back. We respond to legal requests for information in accordance with applicable law and our terms and we provide notice to users whenever permitted.

But in an “updated statement,” Sackin changed her language to say that the claims were “wrong,” not “false.” The adjusted statement reads:

These claims are just wrong. The suggestion we seek out peoples’ private messages for anti-government language or questions about the validity of past elections and then proactively supply those to the FBI is plainly inaccurate and there is zero evidence to support it,” said Sackin, a DC-based crisis response expert who previously worked for Planned Parenthood and “Obama for America” and now leads Facebook’s communications on “counterterrorism and dangerous organizations and individuals.

Despite a major wave of interest in the hit film My Son Hunter resulting in coverage from publications including Newsweek, Rolling Stone, and the Washington Post, trending hashtags on social media, and a feature on Tucker Carlson, Google has deliberately excluded Breitbart articles about the new film from the Google News tab even though as the film’s distributor, Breitbart News is the best source of information on the movie about Joe and Hunter Biden. After Breitbart News requested comment on the matter from the Masters of the Universe, a week-old Breitbart article on the movie appeared on page two of the News tab.

The recent film My Son Hunter from Breitbart News chronicles the story of Hunter Biden, including his corrupt business dealings, his relationship with his father, and a rockstar lifestyle funded by China. The film received widespread acclaim and trended across Twitter on the day of its release. The film was praised by the leftists at the Daily Beast and has even been credited by one left-wing critic for helping him learn the truth about the Biden family. The film’s launch was so popular that a surge of user traffic halted access to MySonHunter.com on release day.

Yet despite this widespread popularity, Google has excluded articles from Breitbart News about its own film from the Google News tab, a popular feature where users can receive a curated list of daily headlines and stories. A week-old story from Breitbart News now appears on page two of the News tab, a change that occurred a day after our team sent a request for comment to the internet giant.

While articles from other publications do appear when searching for the film, with many left-wing outlets attacking or criticizing the movie, none of Breitbart News’ articles covering My Son Hunter have been included before today. Despite 78 articles published by Breitbart News about the movie receiving thousands of comments, huge numbers of views, and widespread virality across social media platforms, Google deliberately includes only a single article from Breitbart on Google News searches about the hit film, and an older article at that.

In fact, searching for Breitbart News on Google News returns articles about Breitbart News, but no articles actually published by Breitbart. This is not the first time that Breitbart News has been the target of Google’s censorship and suppression.

Google actively suppressed Breitbart News in search results leading up to the 2020 election. In October 2020, Breitbart News reported that Google was actively interfering in elections by burying links to Breitbart News in its search results, in particular news related to Joe Biden and his family.

Breitbart News reporter Allum Bokhari wrote:

In July, Breitbart News published data showing that Breitbart’s Google search visibility is down 99 percent compared to the same period in 2016.

RealClearPolitics later published data corroborating this, and showing that the same silent expulsion from Google search results has happened to a variety of other conservative news websites as well.

It appears that Breitbart News links are being hidden on Google searches even when users search for the exact string of words in an original Breitbart headline. When links to Breitbart stories do appear, it is often below obscure websites that plagiarize Breitbart’s content.

Search ranking is critical for web traffic from Google. The search analytics industry has found that the top three search results on Google drive over 70 percent of clicks.

In a new video, Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow reveals in additional detail the depth of Google’s suppression of Breitbart’s reporting.

“Breitbart News is, according to Amazon-owned Alexa.com, one of the top five news publishers in the United States, yet if you search — verbatim — Breitbart headlines in Google, you won’t necessarily get any Breitbart results at all,” Marlow said.

Breitbart News reached out to Google for comment with questions on why My Son Hunter articles from Breitbart News have not been included in Google News whatsoever. The Silicon Valley giant has not answered.

During an appearance on FNC’s “Hannity,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) called out the FBI and Department of Justice for “abusing” the law and procedures for the sake of attacking political opponents.

He included efforts by the FBI to “shield” embattled Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden.

Hawley said if Attorney General Merrick Garland was not willing to resign his post, he should be removed from office.

HANNITY: Let me ask you this — are these whistleblowers talking about people within the FBI protecting the Biden family, and more specifically Hunter Biden and the information on his laptop? Are these whistleblowers also talking about the large extent of investigations into parents that speak out at school board meetings? Are these whistleblowers out there talking about how if there’s anything Donald Trump there’s a separate system of justice in the Department of Justice, are they saying those things?

HAWLEY: I think we’re seeing all of the above, Sean. And I can just tell you, from the whistleblowers that I’ve seen from Senator Grassley who have come to him about how the FBI is being abused, how this Justice Department is using it to go after Trump, how they’re using it to try to shield Hunter Biden, we’ve had whistleblowers come forward and say the Biden administration lied about the Afghan refugees that we actually have hundreds, hundreds of potential terrorists in this country because they didn’t vet the Afghan refugees, they brought them into the country and just released them.

We’ve had — we’ve had whistleblowers come forward about how DHS lied about the disinformation board. It’s across the board, Sean. I mean, we’re seeing this in all the different agencies and the consistent theme is the Biden people are abusing the law, they’re abusing the procedures and they’re doing it to go after their political opponents. They’re doing it to try to cover their own tracks and it’s wrong.

HANNITY: Do you think Director Wray the FBI and do you think the attorney general are up to their job?

HAWLEY: No, no, they both — neither of them are. Both of them should go. They should both have resigned a long time ago. They should have been fired.

And as to the attorney general, I believe that he should be removed if he will not step down.
