Sen. Ted Cruz Puts Martha’s Vineyard ‘Crisis’ in Perspective: ‘15,000 Haitian Illegal Immigrants’ Entered Del Rio in One Day

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) put some much-needed perspective on the influx of migrants into Martha’s Vineyard this week, noting that 15,000 illegal immigrants from Haiti entered Del Rio, Texas, in a single day.

Ever since Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) flew 50 migrants to the wealthy liberal enclave of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, Democrats have been calling the situation a “humanitarian crisis,” while accusing the governor of using human beings as pawns in a game of political chess.

“It is cruel to treat human beings like pawns in a political game. He has reached a new low,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said of DeSantis.

“Exploiting vulnerable people for political stunts is repulsive and cruel. Massachusetts is fully capable of handling asylum seekers, and I’ll keep working with local, state, and federal partners to ensure we have the necessary resources to care for people with dignity,” she also tweeted.

Martha’s Vineyard homeless shelter coordinator, Lisa Belcastro, lamented to reporters that the island does not have the facilities to house the migrants despite the fact that some of America’s wealthiest elites own multi-million-dollar vacation homes that are empty most of the year.

“At some point in time they have to move from here to somewhere else,” she told reporters. “We don’t have the services to take care of 50 immigrants. We certainly don’t have housing. We’re in a housing crisis as we are on this island, so we can’t house everyone here that lives here and works here. We don’t have housing for 50 more people.”

In a tweet on Wednesday, Ted Cruz explained how 15,000 migrants (not 50) flooded into Del Rio, Texas, in a single day.

“Folks on Martha’s Vineyard are describing the burdens from 50 illegal immigrants. To put that in perspective, the small town of Del Rio, TX has about 30,000 residents. I was there when 15,000 Haitian illegal immigrants were crossing in to Del Rio IN A SINGLE DAY. 15,000 > 50” he tweeted.

Island officials have since called the influx of 50 migrants a “humanitarian crisis.”

In August, nearly 6,000 border crossers and illegal aliens were apprehended by federal immigration officials every single day. This does not include the thousands more illegal aliens who successfully crossed the border undetected by officials.

DeSantis Campaign Spokeswoman: Biden Voters on Martha’s Vineyard Should Open Their Summer Homes to Illegal Aliens

President Joe Biden’s supporters on Martha’s Vineyard should open their empty summer homes to shelter newly arrived illegal aliens, a spokeswoman for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) reelection campaign says.

This week, DeSantis flew about 50 illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard — a wealthy enclave of liberals and home to former President Obama who owns a nearly $12 million property on the small island off the coast of Massachusetts.

Liberal activists and Democrats, in response, have denounced DeSantis for transporting illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard, though they support Biden’s expansive Catch and Release network that brings thousands of border crossers and illegal aliens every day to working- and middle-class American towns.

Christina Pushaw, a spokeswoman for the DeSantis campaign, said Biden voters on Martha’s Vineyard ought to open their homes — often empty except for during the summer months — to newly arrived illegal aliens.

“Martha’s Vineyard claims to be a ‘sanctuary’ jurisdiction that welcomes illegal aliens,” Pushaw wrote on Twitter. “Most of those multi-million dollar mansions are summer homes that are vacant most of the year. They can be used to house thousands of illegal migrants. Time to walk the walk, Biden voters.”

The Obamas, for instance, do not live primarily at their vacation home in Martha’s Vineyard. Instead, the family spends most of their time at their primary residence in Washington, DC — an $8.1 million estate in the exclusive Kalorama neighborhood.

On Martha’s Vineyard, the Obamas’ property boasts 29 acres, a private beach, seven bedrooms, and eight and a half bathrooms. The residence alone could likely house up to 15 newly arrived illegal aliens while the acreage could house the remaining 35 illegal aliens in makeshift facilities.

As the New York Times notes, the overwhelming majority of Martha’s Vineyard’s wealthy residents are liberals who voted twice against former President Trump — in 2016 and 2020.

In 2016, for instance, towns across Martha’s Vineyard voted between 65 and 82 percent for Democrat Hillary Clinton against Trump. Then in 2020, voters on the island went between 70 and 88 percent for Biden against Trump.

Despite their support for Democrat candidates, Martha’s Vineyard’s residents have been almost entirely immune to illegal immigration. The illegal alien population in Massachusetts, totaling nearly 300,000, resides almost exclusively outside the state’s wealthiest regions like Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.

According to the Washington Post, “more than 230 buses carrying nearly 9,400 migrants, including families with young children, have arrived in D.C. since Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) began offering free passage to the nation’s capital in April, with Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) following suit in May.”

Martha’s Vineyard Declares ‘Humanitarian Crisis’ over Just 50 Illegal Alien Arrivals

Martha’s Vineyard officials are begging for federal assistance over what they are calling a “humanitarian crisis” after just 50 illegal aliens were flown into the elite island where the nation’s wealthiest residents vacation.

On Wednesday evening, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced that he had sent two planes full of Venezuelan illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard. The move comes as Texas and Arizona have sent thousands of border crossers on migrant buses to New York City, Chicago, and Washington, DC, over the last few months.

Only about 50 illegal aliens have been flown to Martha’s Vineyard, but the island’s officials are calling it a “humanitarian crisis” and have said they are begging for state and federal assistance to deal with the tiny influx of illegal immigration.

Island officials issued the following statement:

The number of illegal aliens sent to Martha’s Vineyard is a tiny fraction of the level of illegal immigration American border communities are subjected to every day. In one Texas border town recently, about 4,000 border crossers and illegal aliens crossed through in a single weekend.

In August, nearly 6,000 border crossers and illegal aliens were apprehended by federal immigration officials every single day. This does not include the thousands more illegal aliens who successfully crossed the border undetected by officials.

For comparison, the number of border crossers and illegal aliens inundating American border communities every day is about 125 times greater than the number of illegal aliens flown to Martha’s Vineyard by DeSantis this week.
