On Thursday, Chicago’s Democrat Mayor, Lori Lightfoot, demanded that Joe Biden “step up” and provide federal funds to help her cope with the illegal aliens shipped to the Windy City by Republican governors.

Lightfoot told reporters at a presser on Thursday:

The federal government has to step up. I was in Washington, DC, last week talking with members of Customs and Border Patrol, National FEMA, ICE, and DHS. And we made it very clear — I made it very clear — that our expectations that they were going to have a plan that features communication and collaboration with interior cities. And they must do that, and they must do that soon.

Lightfoot also seemed to admit that the crisis on the border is nothing new.

“I know that they’re under enormous pressures, this is not a new challenge at the border, but this is a new challenge for us and we need federal support. Resources, communication, and collaboration, and that has to come in short order,” she told reporters.

Lightfoot’s plea for more federal money to cope with the influx of illegals shipped via bus, mostly from Texas by governor Greg Abbott, came only days after House Democrats demanded an additional $50 million in federal funding to house and feed illegal aliens being shipped from border states to Democrat-run big cities in the north that have until now been blissfully free of the problems caused by the wave of illegals swamping the border states.

The House Democrats attempted to blame the issue on Republicans whom they called “xenophobes” for daring to share the burden of Biden’s constant waves of illegals with areas of the country that have never had to suffer the influx seen daily by border states.

Illinois Democrat Jesús García, for instance, blasted GOP governors for “playing politics” instead of dealing fairly with the issue, according to The Hill.

“Playing politics with the lives of these immigrants is dehumanizing and cruel, but not unexpected from the xenophobic, fear-mongering politics of Governor Abbot,” García said in the letter to the Homeland Security Appropriations subcommittee last Friday.

“In a cynical political stunt that has exploited both vulnerable migrants and D.C., the governors of Texas and Arizona have bused thousands of migrants to D.C., Chicago, and New York City in the last several months,” District of Columbia Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton added.

Forcing border states to suffer daily from the consequences of Biden’s border crisis is expected, but spreading the misery to Democrat-run cities is apparently a bridge too far for these Democrats. And neither Democrat explained how being a “sanctuary city” is welcoming, but having illegals actually arriving is “xenophobic.”

Garcia’s Chicago has labeled itself a “sanctuary city” for nearly a decade, already, but the congressman says that now that illegals are actually coming, the city needs more federal dollars to “ensure their food, shelter and other basic needs are covered.”

But as Lightfoot calls on the federal government to “communicate” and “collaborate” with city officials, she apparently does not see a need to do so with the mayors of the local communities to which she has shipped the illegals from Texas.

Last week, Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso said that Chicago did not coordinate with his city before dropping off dozens of illegals at a Burr Ridge hotel, Breitbart News reported.

“I am concerned neither the village administrator nor I were told about this,” Grasso said. “We want to know: Why Burr Ridge?”

Grasso added that, while Cook County is a so-called sanctuary county, his town never took a stance by joining the sanctuary movement. Indeed, during his recent campaign for congress, Grasso ran on a platform of reducing illegal immigration and defunding sanctuary cities.

The Burr Ridge mayor also noted that the city government only became aware that Chicago had dumped illegals there when residents called city hall to complain.

McDonald’s CEO Urges Chicago to Fight Crime: ‘Our City Is in Crisis’

McDonald’s plans to move its innovation center into central Chicago, but CEO Chris Kempczinski voiced concern Wednesday about plaguing crime.

“We are betting on Chicago in the long term because we think it makes good business sense,” Kempczinski stated during an event hosted by the Economic Club of Chicago, Bloomberg reported.

However, it was becoming more difficult to do business from the area and the state of Illinois, he noted. It was also hard to find executives willing to move into the city.

“There is a general sense out there that our city is in crisis,” Kempczinski continued.

In addition, crime and lack of police presence were factors in why multiple small business owners in Chicago were getting ready to leave, CBS Chicago reported August 29:

Meanwhile, nearly 30 people were shot and five of them died last weekend in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago, according to Breitbart News.

The city experienced 797 homicides last year, per the Bloomberg article.

“That’s the most since 1995, and a 60% jump from before the pandemic. Overall, crime has risen 38% this year. While murders so far in 2022 are down 15% from a year ago, overall crime in the district that includes the Loop jumped 89% this year,” the outlet said.

In May, at least eight people were shot and two of them died outside a Chicago McDonald’s when two groups began fighting at the restaurant on North State Street and someone pulled out a gun and opened fire.

“The gunman fled down steps to a subway platform after firing the shots and the group that was with him ran down the steps as well,” according to the Breitbart News report which added that “Two adult men were killed when the bullets began to fly.”

In August, a man was accused of sexually abusing a six-year-old boy at the former Rock ‘n’ Roll McDonald’s in Chicago, according to Breitbart News.

Sixty-two-year-old Bryan Sutton allegedly molested the child inside a bathroom stall and was also accused of attacking a security guard who tried to hold him inside the building.

U.S. Cities: Worse Murder Rates than

Ukraine’s Civilian Death Rate

What has the Democrat leadership of these U.S. cities done to make the situation better?

You might have thought that when you hear a newscaster or reporter call a major U.S. city a “war zone” because of the high crime and murders occurring there that it was just an exaggeration. It turns out that it isn’t.

“Per capita murder rates in major U.S. cities such as Chicago, Baltimore and St. Louis are outpacing Ukraine’s recorded civilian death rate from Russia’s invasion,” according to Just The News.

Think about that. Cities that get touted as examples of successful progressive places to live have more people dying, relatively, than a nation at war. Cities that held “most peaceful protests” are less safe than a nation at war.

Now ask yourself this: If we are so upset with what is happening in Ukraine, why aren’t we even more upset with what is happening in our own country?

The website compiled information from the United Nations Human Rights Office, U.S. Census Bureau, and other sources to calculate the murder rates between the Ukraine and U.S. cities.

In Ukraine, 5,401 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since Russia’s attack began in February (this is actually believed to be an underestimate). With a population of about 41,167,300, this makes Ukraine’s civilian death rate 13.12 per 100,000 people using official statistics from the United Nations, according to Just The News.

Sadly, there are American cities where this would be an improvement. Baltimore’s homicide rate is 37.3 so far this year or 215 deaths. If the city had the Ukraine’s war-time death rate, the city would have had only 76 murders.

St. Louis’s murder rate is 38.2 per 100,000 so far in 2022. Chicago’s is 14.8 per 100,000.

“Using pre-pandemic data, 52 U.S. cities had worse homicide rates than Ukraine’s civilian death rate. However, crime in the United States has skyrocketed since then, meaning that there may be more cities that qualify as deadlier than Ukraine under assault by Russian forces,” Just The News reported.

How scary is that?

Maybe an investigative reporter should compare property damage between the Ukraine and these major U.S. cities that suffered, in some cases, billions of dollars of damage. How comparable would those numbers be?

What’s worse is that the Democrat leadership of these U.S. cities has not done anything to make the situation better. Crime is still rising and property damage is often not even prosecuted in some cities. In fact, with defunding the police, bail reform, strict controls of what police can and can’t do, it has actually made things worse in those cities.

The Democrat-controlled Congress has also been largely behind pushing aid for Ukraine to help them because they have been so hard hit in their war. However, perhaps that money might be better spent helping major U.S. cities fight crime and lower their crime rates to a level equal or less than that of war-torn Ukraine.

It turns out that our American cities are war zones, and just like in a declared war, it is often the civilians, the innocent, who suffer the most. That’s the case in Ukraine, and that’s the case in America.
